Its high time we stopped celebrating mediocrity .....it's only Nigerians especially our celebs that make lagos seem like its a cute city but when foreigners come, they get disappointed. Bro, you can make your criticisms without exaggerating. I have been to more than half of the cities you listed above and the only ones that beat Lagos be it in skyline or infrastructure are Joburg and Capetown, but for goodness sakes Lagos beats Kigali hands down and even Nairobi isn't attracting the level of interest and investments that Lagos is pulling owing to its strategic location. Lagos economy is larger than that of most African countries. Abuja depends majorly on government business and even economically and aesthetically has a long way to go to match Lagos, & neither Abj match Lag in terms of development and FDI attraction -- remember that Lagos ceased from being a Capital 25-yrs ago. Abuja skyline in its present state doesn't come close to that of Lag, and if you disagree post pictorial evidence for us to see. #Truth.

You see, this seems to be a general problem with second-term governors (they relax in their second-term coz they feel their last election is behind them), coupled with the economic crunch. These people have not yet been convicted by the courts, that is not in doubt. But the habit of them jumping bail and stalling their own trials is the problem here. How many of the trials of the individuals the OP cited have seen the light of day till today? It's always one court injunction or another, or the accused is somewhere we don't know cooling off after being granted bail. I think the Nigerian people want to begin to see a logical conclusion to these sort of cases.

Well, even you must agree that the OP has a point by citing past precedents of folks like the accused jumping bail and cooling off abroad on account of the 'rule of law' or abusing court processes to stall their trials. Something has to give. As it stands, the allegations against some of these people are too grave to risk releasing them only to end up jumping bail or using their influence to stall their own trial and conviction.

Lagos Govt: NUPENG lied on N224m claim, says ‘we can’t be blackmailed’

The Lagos State Government on Tuesday said it would not succumb to the attempt by the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) to blackmail it into paying a questionable N224 million debt.
While reacting to a purported protest carried out by members of the association, the State Government said though it was not against peaceful protest by aggrieved citizens but it would not be stampeded into taking any action without strictly following due process and rule of law.
NUPENG had alleged that the N224 million was for payment for the supply of diesel and kerosene to the State Government for execution of direct labour projects in Ojodu between October 2014 and May 2015.
South-West Chairman of NUPENG, Alhaji Tokunbo Korodo had threatened that members of the association would embark on the protest with over 1,000 tankers, and that Lagosians would be subjected to experience scarcity of fuel if the request was not acceded to by government.
But in statement on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, the government recalled that the said transaction took place between an independent marketer and the Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC) before this present government assumed office.
Ayorinde said the company wrote the government about the transaction, and government replied that it wanted to investigate the claim.
According to Ayorinde, “The investigation proved that the claim by the company was fraudulent but while investigation was still ongoing, the company went to NUPENG, and the association agreed to demonstrate on behalf of the company.
“Our position is that the Lagos State Government cannot be stampeded or blackmailed into making payments that have not been verified for which investigation is still ongoing.
“While government is not against peaceful protest by aggrieved citizens, we would like to urge Lagosians to go about their businesses peacefully.
“No amount of blackmail will stop the government from strictly following due process and rule of law,” Ayorinde said.
The government also urged the national leadership of NUPENG to prevail on its Lagos State chapter to stop using the union to pursue personal gains.
Besides, Ayorinde said the Lagos State Government never entered into any transaction with NUPENG on the issue but a private company, and as such it was strange that the union was now being used to blackmail government.
