ADC Group Asks APC, Presidency to Address Alleged Pressure on Supreme Court Justices

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) support group, Grassroots for Mobilization Network (GMN), has called out the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Presidency to respond to the allegation that they are piling pressure on the Supreme Court to give judgement against the ADC on the leadership tussle before the apex court.

The group’s Spokesperson, Mr Peter Emeka, who spoke to a group of newsmen in Abuja on Sunday, said the APC and the Presidency have explanations to make to Nigerians on the alleged leakage of the Supreme Court’s decision as well as the piling of pressure on the Justices of the Supreme Court to give a disfavourable decision against ADC.

In a press statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, Emeka noted that “the whole world is watching the ongoing shenanigans about the fate of opposition parties in the country.”

He argued that such weighty allegations “should not be swept under the carpet.

“It is surprising that, up to this moment, the APC and the Presidency has not responded to the allegation, which in itself, suggests admission that the information is correct,” he said.

Emeka cited what he called recent public outcry after “the Presidency ordered a member of the House of Representatives to remain in the party and scatter it.” He described the alleged action as an abuse of office and “a threat to our democracy.”

“If the APC and the Presidency do not come forward and address the allegations of interference, then the country is doomed,” he warned.

Several online platforms reported on Saturday that the Presidency was mounting pressure on Supreme Court justices to alter the judgment in favour of Nafiu Bala, a claimant in the ADC leadership dispute.

Some of the reports further claimed the Presidency is pressuring justices to remit the case to the Federal High Court for a fresh hearing a move critics say could stop the ADC from appearing on the ballot for the 2027 general elections.

He said such actions would “lead to the collapse of the judiciary.”

He appealed to the international community to intervene over what he described as “an abuse of power and total disregard for the rule of law.”

Several legal experts have cautioned that the judiciary should stay out of political disputes as provided in the Electoral Act.

“Internal crisis of any political party is an internal affair of the party, which the Supreme Court has severally dealt with,” Emeka further added, noting that past judgments had held party leadership disputes as non justiciable.

Efforts to reach the Presidency, the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation, and the APC for comments were unsuccessful as of press time.

The Supreme Court had earlier reserved judgment in the ADC leadership suit between factions loyal to Sen. David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, and Nafiu Bala.

A date for judgment has not been announced

Obi and Atiku are worlds apart in character and ideologies, they have no business being together in the same party. And their supporters are doing them more damage than good. Anywhere obidients go is always chaotic and I expect Obi to have cautioned them because it only reflects the segment of the population he represents as well as the caliber of following he controls.

Remember that Fubara had to caution his supporters (including the obidients who suddenly became his emergency lovers just because he was fighting his benefactor) at a point when he discovered that they were demarketing him indirectly by there actions.

I've never heard Obi caution his people and this is not helping him.

How would you be in a race with someone who is equally qualified, ambitious and interested in contesting for a ticket and all you could do is consistently gaslight him by saying he is too old and he should take the back seat, bla bla bla! who does that.??

I don't want to believe this is the kind of a person Peter Obi is. Therefore he should caution his followers.

Politics‘why Are We Still Borrowing After Subsidy Removal?’ – Sanusi Queries FG by Ofunaofu(op): 6:12am On Apr 26
Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has raised fresh concerns over the Federal Government’s growing debt profile, questioning the rationale for continued borrowing despite the removal of petrol subsidy.

Speaking during an interview published by News Central TV on Friday, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria said key reforms such as subsidy removal and exchange rate liberalisation were necessary, but warned that poor sequencing and weak fiscal discipline could undermine their benefits.

Sanusi criticised Nigeria’s longstanding dependence on foreign refining, describing it as a structural flaw that persisted while local refining capacity remained underutilised.

I have always said the subsidy regime was unsustainable. We cannot continue supporting foreign refineries. We’re an oil-producing country. Keeping refineries open abroad while we’re not doing our own,” Sanusi said.

He, however, welcomed recent progress in domestic refining, noting a shift from heavy importation of petroleum products to export activity.

Today, we have a situation where we have our own domestic refinery. We’re not importing petroleum products. We’re even exporting to Europe, and this is very good for the economy,” he added.

Despite supporting the reforms in principle, Sanusi questioned the timing and broader policy coordination, suggesting that critical measures may not have been implemented in the right order.

He said, “Artificial exchange rates, especially when you’re printing money, cannot work. There was going to be a devaluation.

For me, removing subsidy or liberalising exchange rates, these are good interventions. Were they done at the right time? Those are certain questions. Were there other things that should be done that have not been done? These are other issues.”

The former apex bank chief argued that implementing exchange rate liberalisation in a loose monetary environment contributed to the naira’s sharp depreciation.

It’s not enough to say, oh, they removed subsidy. You had to. When you get to a point where 100% of your revenue goes into debt service, you cannot continue. Where is the money going to come from?

However, if you decide to remove subsidy and liberalise exchange rates in an environment of very loose monetary conditions, before you have tightened money supply, the Naira drops to a bottomless pit. That was a timing issue.”

Sanusi further challenged the government’s continued borrowing, insisting that savings from subsidy removal should translate into fiscal consolidation rather than increased debt.

His remarks come amid reports that the Federal Government has increased its 2026 borrowing plan by ₦11.31 trillion, pushing total projected borrowing to ₦29.20 trillion.

President Bola Tinubu also recently sought Senate approval for a fresh $516 million loan to finance the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway project.

We’ve removed the subsidy. We’re now spending it. What we should not see is fiscal consolidation. You cannot remove wastages and continue borrowing. I’ve said this before. You need to see the benefits.

“If you’re not paying the subsidy and you’ve got the money, why are we still borrowing and borrowing? What are we borrowing for?” Sanusi questioned.

CrimeNigerian Arrested In US, Faces Deportation Over ‘sex Crimes’ by Ofunaofu(op): 5:22am On Apr 26
United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested a 53-year-old Nigerian, Olatunde Abiodun Olusanjo, in Los Angeles over previous criminal allegations, including child molestation and other sex offences.

Olusanjo was apprehended on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, by officers of the Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) unit. He is currently in ICE custody, pending deportation proceedings.

The Los Angeles ERO office announced the arrest via its official X channel, describing the suspect as a “criminal illegal alien and convicted sex offender.”

“Los Angeles ERO arrested Olatunde Abiodun Olusanjo, 53, of Nigeria, April 21,” the agency stated.

“Olusanjo has previous arrests for child molestation, sexual battery, and soliciting lewd conduct. He is in ICE custody pending removal.”

A video accompanying the announcement shows Olusanjo in handcuffs being escorted from an ICE vehicle into custody.

The narrator in the clip identified him clearly: “Los Angeles ICE arrested criminal, illegal alien, and convicted sex offender Olatunde Abiodun Olusanjo on April 21, 2026, a citizen of Nigeria. Olusanjo’s criminal record includes child molestation, sexual battery, and sexual solicitation.”

The arrest forms part of broader enforcement actions by US immigration authorities targeting foreign nationals with prior criminal convictions.

In February this year, the US Department of Homeland Security announced the arrest of 79 Nigerians described as among the “worst of the worst” criminal offenders, facing charges ranging from sexual assault and fraud to manslaughter, drug smuggling, kidnapping, and robbery.

Olusanjo remains detained as removal proceedings continue

Politics2027: Rice, Spaghetti Can’t Secure Your Legitimacy, Atiku Tells Tinubu by Ofunaofu(op): 2:33am On Apr 26
The former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has warned President Bola Tinubu that reliance on palliative measures will not guarantee his reelection in the 2027 elections.

Atiku stated this in a statement titled “Rice, Spaghetti Can’t Save You: Atiku To Tinubu“, issued on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu.

The former Vice President said the distribution of food items such as rice and spaghetti cannot replace public trust or determine electoral outcomes.

“Bags of rice, spaghetti, and Indomie may offer temporary relief, but they cannot secure legitimacy at the ballot box,” Atiku said.

Atiku stated that the Tinubu administration is consolidating power while shrinking democratic space, despite its growing political dominance.

“At a time when over 30 state governors have been drawn into the ruling party’s orbit, Nigerians are witnessing a growing pattern of actions that suggest not strength, but fear—fear of credible opposition, fear of free competition, and fear of the Nigerian voter,” he stated.

He argued that the government’s control of key state institutions has not translated into confidence but rather anxiety about opposition and the electorate.

“Despite this overwhelming dominance, there remains a visible anxiety about the opposition and, more importantly, about the Nigerian people,” Atiku said.

He also raised concerns about alleged attempts to weaken opposition parties through internal crises and judicial interventions.

Atiku also criticised what he described as the misuse of state power against opposition figures.

“Court processes have, in critical moments, produced outcomes that blur legal hierarchy and create confusion rather than clarity.

“There is a growing resort to crass and reckless detention orders targeted at opposition figures,” he said.

Warning against a drift toward a one-party state, Atiku said Nigeria risks undermining democratic principles if current trends persist.

“If the current trajectory continues, Nigeria risks sliding into a system where elections exist in name, but competition is effectively neutralised,” he said.

He maintained that leadership must be determined by the will of the people, not by the manipulation of institutions or the suppression of dissent.

The former vice president, therefore, urged Nigerians to remain vigilant ahead of the next general elections.

“Leadership must never be so secure that it avoids contest. Why is a government with such vast control still afraid of a free and fair election? Nigeria deserves an answer. And Nigerians deserve a choice,” he added

Can you pls tell us how much Nigeria makes annually and tell us what are projected expenditure is in 2026......govt has introduced tax reforms so as to shore up revenues, you all shouted no tinubu wants to kill you,now they are resorting to borrowing, you are still crying that why is he borrowing too much........is it your own money he wants to be using to run the country.......be honest enough to provide ur fellow gullible ones with the facts of the countries earnings
You’re framing this like the only options are blind loyalty or national collapse. That’s a false choice.

No serious person is saying government shouldn’t raise revenue or even borrow where necessary. The issue is transparency, priorities, and accountability.

Subsidy was removed on the promise that it would free up funds for infrastructure and development. Fair enough. So where are the numbers? How much has actually been saved, and exactly where has it gone? Nigerians deserve more than vague assurances.

We were also told revenue performance had already exceeded targets by August 2025. If that’s the case, why the continued aggressive borrowing? Borrowing isn’t inherently bad, but reckless borrowing without clear, measurable outcomes is.

And drop the is it your money that he wants to use? line. It is Nigerians’ money, public debt today becomes public burden tomorrow through taxes, inflation, and reduced public services.

So this isn’t about hating Tinubu. It’s about asking a simple question:
If revenues are up and subsidies are gone, why are citizens seeing more hardship while debt keeps rising?

Why the reckless borrowings?

That’s not gullibility....that’s accountability

Can you see unseriousness? Even if INEC shifts it December they will still not be ready.
You can keep playing the ostrich, burying your head in the sand.

Every sane Nigerian knows that Tinubu is constricting the democratic space and stifling the opposition. Every sane Nigerian knows that INEC has become the electoral arm of the APC.

INEC under Amupitan’s leadership has shown itself to be more of a competitor than the impartial umpire it is meant to be. It now chooses which court orders to obey, which to ignore, and how to misinterpret the rest at will.

So how do you expect such a tainted INEC to conduct a free, fair, and credible election?

‘Operation Wetie started from Ibadan’ — Seyi Makinde warns against one-party domination

Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo, has invoked the violent political history of “Operation Wetie” to caution against moves towards one-party domination in Nigeria.

“Operation Wetie” was a campaign of intense political violence that rocked Nigeria’s western region, with its epicentre in Ibadan, in the mid-1960s.

The term, derived from the Yoruba phrase meaning “wet him” or “soak it,” described the practice of dousing political opponents, their homes and vehicles with petrol before setting them ablaze.

It erupted after the highly disputed 1965 western region elections, which were widely alleged to have been rigged in favour of the ruling faction, effectively sidelining the opposition

Speaking at the national summit of All Opposition Political Party Leaders in Ibadan, Makinde raised concerns over growing efforts to consolidate legislative control under one party while opposition parties grapple with internal crises and legal battles.

“For those that are carrying on as if there’s no tomorrow. They should remember that “operation wetie” started from here. This is the same Wild Wild West,” Makinde said.

“Back in 1950, this city hosted a conversation that helped shape Nigeria’s constitutional future. Those discussions were not perfect but necessary. They were driven by a recognition that the structure of the nation was a deliberately built, protected and well necessary debated. In many ways, this gathering carries the same responsibility.

“There are open efforts to consolidate legislative control under one party. At the same time, opposition parties are increasingly entangled in internal crises and legal battles that raise serious questions about their ability to function effectively.”

He cautioned that such developments should not be treated lightly, adding that it’s not the time for opposition leaders to be disengaged from politics.

“This is not something that we should treat lightly. I don’t want to think saboteurs are here. Because democracy is not destroyed overnight, it is weakened step by step until people begin to feel it no longer works for them,” he said.

“When opposition becomes ineffective, democracy itself loses meaning. Democracy is not defined by the success of one party, it is defined by the existence of real alternatives. By the ability of citizens to choose.”

Makinde said the summit was not motivated by personal ambitions or vendettas.

“This meeting is not a gang up against one man. And it’s not about individual ambition to be president; it is about the collective ambition of the Nigerian people to have a democracy that is properly defined,” he said.

“No matter how strong a party becomes or how popular any government may appear, the presence of credible opposition is not a threat to democracy.”
