2027: We won’t allow defectors hijack party structures, APC national chairman vows

…says party has no working partnership with FCT Minister

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has declared that those dumping their political platforms would not be allowed to hijack the party structures, thereby leaving old members stranded.

Professor Yilwatda made the declaration on Tuesday at a stakeholders meeting with members of the party in the Federal Capital Territory.

Checks revealed that there is growing dissatisfaction within the party; the erstwhile chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party who defected to the APC are smarting to take over the party structures to secure tickets ahead of next general elections.

Addressing the party faithful, the APC National Chairman vowed that new entrants into the APC would not be allowed under any guise to displace those he described as members of the legacy groups.

He maintained that under his watch, both defectors and old members would be allowed to cohabit.

He said, “The people who decamped should not come and take over the party. They should come knowing that there are people who were already living in their party. It is a home that we built.

“If the house was not built, nobody will come. So nobody should come as a warrior and take over existing party members and take them away.”

He further revealed that he would fashion out a power sharing arrangement that would integrate contending power blocs in the FCT chapter of the APC.

“We must have everybody included. There will be a sharing formula that will ensure that all the members of the legacy group and defectors are properly carried along.”

The APC national recalled that a committee chaired by the Minister of special duties and inter-governmental affairs, Hon. Zephaniah Jisalo had conducted zoning for the FCT and that its work had been followed to the letter.

“No single APC member has complained that he has been cheated or he has been deprived in any way.”

Ahead the forthcoming congresses, he assured tendencies within the FCT chapter that the APC Constitution would be applied to the letter, declaring that new members seeking executive positions must produce resignation letters accepted by their former party chairmen.

He said, “If you are in opposition, you must give resignation letter and show evidence of resignation. You must show evidence of defection, of your resignation and acceptance of your resignation by your own chairman. It is very important.”

He equally restated provisions of the Nigerian Constitution which precluded fresh tenure after 8 years in office.

“If you have spent consecutively eight years in one office, you must step down or at best, change office,” he added.

A member of the House of Representatives from Rivers State, Manuchim Umezuruike, has defected from the All progressive Congress, APC, to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, months after joining the ruling party.

It was gathered that the lawmaker is currently attending the ADC convention in Abuja.

Umezuruike, an ally of Governor Sim Fubara during the political crisis in Rivers State, was part of the four Rep members who defected to the APC to support the governor in his bid to take over the structure of the party in Rivers State.

The other Rep members who defected with him to the APC in December 2025 are Boniface Emerengwa, Awaji Abiante, and Boma Goodhead.

It was gathered that none of them may secure a return ticket, allegedly due to their backing of Governor Fubara over FCT Minister Nyesom Wike during the Rivers political crisis

The immediate past publicity secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kano State, Comrade Saidu Bello Said, has predicted an early defeat for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.

Naija News reports that Bello, during an interview with Daily Post, claimed that growing dissatisfaction with Tinubu’s governance would shape voters’ decisions, stressing that Nigerians are increasingly aware of the country’s situation.

Bello, who claimed that democracy is not being respected under Tinubu’s administration, said anyone who votes for the president, especially in the North, will be found at the bottom of hell.

He said, “Nigerians will never vote for Tinubu in the coming election. They are tired. Democracy is not being respected.

“Tinubu will lose the election before 10:00 am. Whoever votes for Tinubu, especially in the North, will be found at the bottom of hell.”

He also criticised current economic policies, particularly the increase in fuel prices, questioning the justification for the hike.

He stressed, “For example, fuel price has increased when there’s no reason for that. Nigeria’s budget was pegged at $70, but with the recent war, it has increased. What is being done for Nigerians?

‘See 2027 as a time to save themselves from the clutches of APC.”

Speaking on the internal developments within the ADC in Kano following recent political realignments, including the defection of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Bello said the party was working to reposition itself ahead of the 2027 elections.

He stated, “The party will get its house in order before 2027.”

Federal High Court has granted bail to Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.

El-Rufai, a former governor of kaduna state, has been under detention by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission, ICPC.

The development was disclosed on Tuesday by political commentator Imran Wakili in a post on X

“Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has been granted bail by the Federal High Court,” Wakili wrote.

DAILY POST reports that the former FCT Minister is undergoing trial for alleged corrupt practices while as the governor of Kaduna State.
