Politics › Re: Governor Hope Uzodimma Sponsors Imo REC, 27 Electoral Officers On Pilgrimage To by Ofunaofu: 12:09am On Jan 20 |
Are we honestly certain that there will be a free and fair election in 2027?
Just days ago, President Tinubu rewarded the former INEC chairman, Yakubu, with an ambassadorial appointment barely hours after he completed his tenure. Now, Hope Uzodinma, the Director-General of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Ambassadors, is sponsoring an INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner and other INEC officials on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem
At this point, one must ask: are the results of the 2027 election already written, simply waiting to be announced?
What we are witnessing is a dangerous erosion of democratic norms. The Tinubu-led APC has shown itself to be a grave threat to democracy and to the continued corporate existence of this country. If institutions meant to safeguard our elections are openly compromised, then the future of Nigeria itself is at risk. |

Nigerians are calling Tinubu out because his policies and decisions are what currently affect our lives, fuel prices, inflation, insecurity, cost of living. That’s how accountability works in a democracy: you question the man in power.. Like I stated earlier, If Ozekhome is guilty, prove it in court with evidence, not with conspiracy theories and Obi-obsession. Dragging Peter Obi into every issue is not intelligence; it’s deflection. You say I criticize Tinubu often? Of course. He is the President. That’s literally his job to be scrutinized. Criticism is not abuse; blind loyalty is the real deficiency here. So again, Tinubu is in charge. His government acted. Nigerians are responding. Peter Obi has nothing to do with your government’s decisions, except that you’re terrified of holding your own side accountable. |
Politics › Tinubu Orders Suspension Of APC E-registration In Kano Ahead Yusuf’s Defection — by Ofunaofu(op): 5:46pm On Jan 18 |
Tinubu orders suspension of APC e-registration in Kano ahead Yusuf’s defection — Doguwa A member of the House of Representatives and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano, Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed that the APC e-registration exercise be put on hold until Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf officially joins the party. The lawmaker made the claim in a video posted on X by @jrnaib2, in which he stated that the President has already accepted Governor Yusuf into the APC. He said: “What could you do when Tinubu said he has accepted Abba? What would you do? “Tinubu has accepted him (into APC), we were going to start APC e-registration in Kano tomorrow, but the President and the APC national leadership has directed that it should be put on hold.” Although it is unclear when Doguwa made the comments, they come at a time when the APC has embarked on a nationwide registration of its members. He said the President and the APC leadership want Governor Yusuf to be the first to e-register in Kano. “If we accept the ‘hunch backed,’ what would he do with me? We could only be patient,” he added. The comments have drawn varied reactions from social media users, with one @auwal_sls saying that Abba is not ready to join the APC, while another user, @Teemaah88, said Kano State “will lose this election.” Reports indicate that some close allies of Abba Kabir Yusuf have been calling on the governor and his political mentor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to defect to the APC. Some government officials, including the state Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, have defended the calls, arguing that defection to the APC would be of great advantage to the people of Kano. However, Kwankwaso has vehemently rejected the idea. He has repeatedly asked the governor to vacate his seat and move to the APC if he so desires. There have also been reports suggesting that the governor was expected to defect to the APC last Monday, but the move has yet to materialise, as Abba Kabir Yusuf has remained silent on the defection saga https://dailypost.ng/2026/01/18/tinubu-orders-suspension-of-apc-e-registration-in-kano-ahead-yusufs-defection-doguwa/ |

You are wrong in your assertion that the data you cited shows the Labour Party having the highest concentration of irregularities in its strongholds. This alone reveals that the so-called data was not meant to educate but rather to serve as an orchestrated campaign against Peter Obi, aimed at maligning his image, something that has been the core political strategy of the Tinubu administration.
You have to understand that many things happened several days before the actual election day. The APC was at the center of it all, being the incumbent party. The APC was the only party that employed thuggery, agberoism, voter intimidation, and electoral banditry, and that compromised INEC officials in order to perpetuate itself in power.
We heard the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of Lagos State claim that a particular ethnic group relocated to Lagos State to vote, a statement that sought to fuel ethnic bigotry and tribal hatred.
We also witnessed what happened in Lagos State when a known street urchin issued threats and engaged in killings, maiming, and destruction of property against a particular ethnic group because of their democratic choice. This occurred in full public view. Shockingly, the police even defended it by claiming that the street urchin was merely cracking jokes.
This did not happen anywhere else except in the stronghold of the ruling party’s candidate. |

So, Pitobi supposedly refurbished all these hospitals more than fifteen years ago, yet they have only chosen to materialise now, apparitions delayed by a decade and a half? Very well, let us indulge the fantasy. Let us just say that every governor after him spent years doing absolutely nothing, no policies, no projects, just ceremoniously pouring the state’s funds into bottomless pits, only to later credit themselves for Pitobi’s ancient miracles.
But, of course, when disaster strikes, logic must suddenly return from exile, because then, and only then, the blame must rest squarely on the shoulders of the current governor, not pitobi again.
Una well done. Richtaiwo, every time I read your comments, I regret it. Is this what extreme bitterness, laced with tribal bigotry, has reduced you to? It’s a pity. |

WizardOfNG: Bro, aren't you ever ashamed of rushing to speak before thinking to then appear unintelligent, ignorant and uninformed?
Was it the legitimate turn of the South GEJ was using, as is the case with PBAT, that others were dishonorably trying to bully him out of ?
Or was it that it was GEJ who was using the turn of the North, after the unfortunate death of Yar Adua, only for him to then dishonorably decide to run for another term still on the turn of the North, in 2015, after being in power for five years already?
Another term that would have made it Nine years in power for GEJ, since he has been in power five years by the time of the 2015 election.
It is well known many Northerners supported GEJ to remain in power via the 2011 elections against the wishes of Northern hawks who insisted he must not run
They did that so that GEJ could then honourably leave in 2015 and hand power back to the North that lost her turn because of the death of Yar Adua.
Five years GEJ had should be more than enough for a reasonable person who finds himself in a position he would never have been in and understand how the North do not play with their turn in power yet they chilled for five years.
That was when many said enough is enough of GEJ's insistence on running in 2015 when he had graciously been accorded five years of a rotational period the North should have been in power !!!
GEJ is who Yorubas deem " a la se ju, a la se té. A pisstaker. That you now seek to revise recent history to portray him a victim of the "evil machinations" of Tinubu etal speaks volumes about you lot.
Tinubu saved GEJ and I won't spell out how since you clearly don't have the intellect to grasp and work logically with reality. Fact that GEJ and PEJ are cool with Tinubu today, while you lot say otherwise just shows the victimhood troublemaking you lot have historically been fond of gaslighting others with. You wrote plenty, but said very little of substance. Let’s simplify the history you’re trying to bend. First, Nigeria’s Constitution, not gentleman’s rotation agreements is the supreme law. Jonathan became president constitutionally after Yar’Adua’s death and won a fresh, nationwide mandate in 2011. That mandate was not borrowed from the North, leased from anyone, or subject to later cancellation. Once elected, his term belonged to Nigerians, not to regional power brokers. Second, the claim that GEJ owed the North an exit in 2015 is pure political blackmail, not principle. If rotation were sacred, why did the North contest and lose against him in 2011? Have you suddenly forget the infamous statement 'the dogs and baboon will be socked in blood'. You can’t accept an election when you win and suddenly discover rotation only when you lose. Third, the irony is loud, the same people who insist Jonathan “overstayed” after one full elected term are silent about Tinubu, whose mandate has produced historic hardship and division, yet now want 'it's the turn of the south treated as holy writ. Rotation is only important when it protects power not when it serves Nigerians Fourth, invoking Yoruba proverbs and name-calling doesn’t change facts. Jonathan conceded defeat peacefully in 2015, saving Nigeria’s democracy. That single act earned him global respect something propaganda can’t erase. Finally, Nigerians are not revising history; they are living with the consequences of today’s governance. And in 2027, votes will not be cast to return 'it is the turn of the south,' but to end failure. |

Politics › Gov Yusuf’s Demand For Automatic Ticket Delays Defection To APC by Ofunaofu(op): 10:53am On Jan 18 |
*Kano governor on his way to join APC at the right time, says ruling party
The planned defection of the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has experienced a setback as the ruling party has not acceded to the governor’s demand to be offered an automatic ticket in the 2027 governorship election in the state, THISDAY has learnt. THISDAY gathered that the demand for an automatic ticket in the 2027 general election was one of the conditions Governor Yusuf presented to the APC leadership for his defection to the ruling party.
However, it was learnt that the APC leadership’s reluctance to accede to this demand has continued to generate apprehension in the governor’s camp, leading to the shifting of the defection dates on more than two occasions. While the governor was still in Abuja yesterday engaging in high-stake consultations with the APC national leadership, the Kano State chapter of the party has assured that the governor was on his way to join the party at the right time and denied ever meeting with him to discuss the issue of automatic ticket.
The governor’s planned defection has been in the news for weeks. Still, his demand for an automatic ticket is said to have clashed with the political ambition of many APC leaders in the state, including the Deputy Senate President, Senate Barau Jibrin, who is said to be nursing a governorship ambition in 2027.
A source close to the former governor of the state and immediate past National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, told THISDAY last night that the ruling party was not willing to sacrifice the ambition of its national leaders for the governor’s defection. “Apart from a documented assurance of an automatic ticket, the governor is also demanding the right to nominate a minister to represent Kano State in the Federal Executive Council, and also nominate his loyalists for other federal appointments, including those positions currently occupied by APC members from the state.
“Some governors from other political parties have defected to the APC, but they did not give the type of conditions that the Kano State governor is demanding. However, the negotiation is still ongoing,” the source explained.
The source confirmed that Senator Jibrin is a serious contender in the governorship race. According to him, the APC leadership is insisting that Governor Yusuf and other interested aspirants should go through the party’s governorship primary.
THISDAY gathered that the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, did not make similar demands. Senator Jibrin and former Governor Ganduje command significant influence within the Kano APC structure. Meanwhile, Yusuf’s deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has reportedly vowed to remain in the NNPP, a position that could lead to a major clash and threat of impeachment should Yusuf eventually leave the party.
Indications that Governor Yusuf’s planned defection has not been finalised also emerged on Friday when the Governor convened the first State Executive Council meeting of 2026 in Abuja, and still appeared at the meeting wearing his trademark Kwankwasiyya red cap, and prominently displaying the NNPP’s flag.
Kwankwasiyya is a political movement led by the National Leader of NNPP and former governor of the state, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who has since described Governor Yusuf’s planned defection as an act of betrayal. Kwankwaso has, however, not ruled out defection from the NNPP to the APC but insisted that the ruling party should meet certain conditions.
In a video shared on Facebook by his aide, Saifullahi Hassan, Kwankwaso, speaking in Hausa last Wednesday, reiterated that he would not defect to the APC without a “concrete agreement” regarding his role, the future of his supporters, and the interests of the Kano State Government.
“I have never been opposed to moving to the APC. However, I always set conditions before leaving where I am or joining a new platform. I cannot simply join them without a solid agreement on the ground,” he added.
However, Governor Yusuf’s appearance at the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting in Abuja on Friday, wearing his trademark Kwankwasiyya red cap and prominently displaying the NNPP’s flag, dashed the hope of those expecting a public declaration of defection.
The meeting, which included the deputy governor and all the commissioners, was the council’s 37th since the administration’s inception and was held at the Governor’s Lodge in Abuja. At the SEC meeting, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to good governance. Kwankwaso had earlier stated that he would only defect to a political party that was ready to offer him the presidential or vice presidential ticket in the 2027 elections.
Kano Governor on His Way to Join APC at the Right Time, Says Ruling Party Meanwhile, the Kano State chapter of the APC has confirmed that Governor Yusuf was on his way to join the party, and denied ever meeting with the governor over an automatic governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 general election. In a telephone interview with THISDAY in Kano, the party’s secretary, Alhaji Zakari Sarina, made it clear that the rumours circulating about the purported meeting were baseless and should be ignored. He attributed the rumours to “enemies of Kano” who are out to destabilise the party’s relationship with the state governor, who he confirmed was on his way to join the APC at the right time.
“Our party expresses disappointment at the spread of false information, which doesn’t hold water. There was never a time the party in Kano held any discussion with the state governor, let alone denying him our ticket,” Sarina said. “We are welcoming the governor at any given time, sooner rather than later. Our doors are always open, and it’s just a matter of a few days; so, why are people rushing and speculating?” Sarina queried.
The APC secretary maintained that the party would not be swayed by malicious attempts to create acrimonious situation with the state governor, especially at a time when the state was looking forward to fundamental transformation and development. Sarina urged the public to disregard the rumours and focus on the real issues affecting the state. The APC Secretary has assured party supporters that the party is working hard to ensure a smooth process and has urged everyone to remain calm and patient.
The denial comes amid speculation that the APC held a series of meetings with the governor, in which he allegedly requested a written assurance that he would automatically secure the party’s governorship ticket for the 2027 election. According to sources familiar with the matter who did not want to be named, Governor Yusuf also held a closed-door meeting yesterday in Abuja with the leader of the APC, the former Governor Ganduje, and the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Jibrin, about his possible defection to the party next week.
The source further revealed that Vice President Kashim Shettima was closely monitoring the situation, and President Bola Tinubu was slated to receive a final briefing on the matter https://www.thisdaylive.com/2026/01/18/gov-yusufs-demand-for-automatic-ticket-delays-defection-to-apc/ |

Politics › ADC Says $9 Million US "Propaganda" Payment Is Indefensible by Ofunaofu(op): 6:55am On Jan 16 |
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said the reported approval of a $9 million contract by the federal government for lobbying services in the United States over the security situation in Nigeria is scandalous.
The opposition party said the attempt by the administration to launder its image abroad while Nigerians grapple with worsening insecurity and economic hardship is indefensible.
The party, in a statement signed by its national publicity secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, stated that the expenditure reflects misplaced priorities, especially at a time when thousands of citizens have been killed and millions can barely afford basic necessities.
It further argued that no amount of paid lobbying can mask the government’s failure to protect lives and property.
A report emerged about how the federal government hired a lobby firm to assist in communicating its actions on protecting Christians in Nigeria to the United States government.
The contract sum for the firm is said to be $9m.
Reacting however, the ADC spokesman said no government in Africa has ever committed such an obscene sum to a short-term public relations exercise.
“While the ADC recognises the importance of representing Nigeria’s interests internationally, spending $9 million on image management at a time when millions of Nigerians cannot afford food, fuel, or basic healthcare is a clear case of misplaced priorities and moral blindness.
“This decision is also an admission of diplomatic failure. A government that has left key ambassadorial positions vacant now seeks to outsource diplomacy to lobbyists, further weakening Nigeria’s institutional credibility and reducing foreign policy to transactional propaganda.
“More troubling is the illusion that paid lobbying in Washington can erase the reality of mass killings, widespread insecurity, and state failure at home. No amount of image laundering can wash away the blood of thousands of Nigerians killed under this administration’s watch,” Abdullahi said.
He added that lobbying to impress foreign leaders cannot substitute for a coherent strategy to end the bloodbath.
He said a President who declares a state of emergency on security and then proceeds on foreign holidays cannot be rescued by public relations firms.
“Equally dangerous is the framing of this lobbying effort as a campaign to “communicate Christian protection efforts.”
“This risks deepening sectarian tensions and politicising security in a country already strained by religious and ethnic fault lines. Security failures affect all Nigerians, regardless of faith, and cannot be addressed through selective messaging abroad instead of justice, accountability, and effective governance at home.”
The ADC spokesman, who stressed that Nigeria does not need propaganda, said Nigeria needs leadership.
He said resources should be spent protecting lives, restoring trust in state institutions, and rebuilding a country in distress, not polishing the image of a government that has failed its most basic responsibility is the protection of lives and property https://leadership.ng/adc-says-9m-us-propaganda-payment-indefensible/

Politics › How Obasanjo’s Son, Olujonwo Endorsed Buhari Against Father’s Wish (Flashback) by Ofunaofu(op): 11:20pm On Jan 15 |
The more things change, the more they stay the same is a popular saying ascribed to ancient French writer, Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr.
On Thursday night, news broke that one of the sons of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, had done what some may consider the unbelievable. But in politics, the words of Karr ring true. Abubakar Atiku Abubakar, popularly known as Abba, endorsed President Bola Tinubu, his father’s political ally turned rival, for reelection.
The younger Atiku not only endorsed Tinubu but converted the arsenal he put together for his father in the last election into a war chest for Tinubu by directing all the coordinators and members of the Haske Atiku Organisation to immediately align with the APC and support the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He had said, “My name is Abubakar Atiku Abubakar, but everyone calls me Abba. I am here today to formally announce my exit from my former party, where we worked in 2023, and my decision to join the APC. With this development, I will work to actualise the second term bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, come 2027.”
This episode is a reminder of how Olujonwo Obasanjo, son of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, endorsed former President Muhammadu Buhari in the buildup to the 2019 election. At that period, Obasanjo had fallen out with Buhari, whom he demarketed at virtually every possible opportunity.
The elder statesman had asked Nigerians to vote out Buhari, a position his son rejected.
in a two-page statement of endorsement of buhari, Obasanjo’s son admitted that no human could be perfect, and listed what he claimed as the achievements of the Buhari administration.
“The current administration has begun the process of laying a solid foundation for future generations. They have deliberated and contemplated extensively on our myriad of issues and complexity as a nation to proffer deeply rooted plans and polices to tackle and establish a strong base on which to build and consolidate upon.”
“It is also important to note that this process is not without pains but we should consider where we were, where we are and where we are going. The current administration has given hope to the common man; it is the dawn of a new age.
“I would humbly and strongly appeal that we all embrace and support Buhari’s government in his aggressive, relentless pursuit of equitable distribution of wealth and resources to the masses to aid the growth and development of our nation. He is seriously improving and empowering local farmers, industrialists, the women, the SME and businessmen.
“The government is serious about development and has given new life to the steel industry and the Buhari Administration is determined to industrialise our nation and to make us a producing nation and the revival of the Ajaokuta Steel Complex and completion of the baro and Lokoja ports are examples.
“The current administration has sought to address our importation of petroleum products through the relocation of refineries. These are few examples, a whole book is needed to put the achievement and successes of the current administration into details. The current administration has invested more in education, health, agriculture, security, road infrastructural development to aid the growth of the economy despite receiving less revenue.
“The ingenuity of the current administration in proffering solutions is highly commendable. No human is perfect, no government is perfect, only the Creator of heaven and earth embodies perfection. We are on the right path and should not deviate.
“The youths of our great nation should join hands and support the progress and giant strides of President Buhari, he is working commendably to free us from past bondage and captivity.
“We are on the right path but we must not go back into bondage again. I am calling on the youths of our nation to let us work together to return President Buhari to power in 2019,” he had said.
Coincidentally, Atiku, whose son’s action elicited this piece, was the one Obasanjo sided with at the time.
Recall that Atiku was Buhari’s main challenger in 2019. Currently, he is seeking the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to run against Tinubu in what would be his third straight attempt at the presidency, should he get the ticket. https://dailytrust.com/flashback-how-obasanjos-son-endorsed-buhari-against-fathers-wish/?noamp=available
