PoliticsMammoth Crowd As Supporters Storm Kwankwaso’s Kano Residence by Ofunaofu(op): 3:58pm On Jan 25
Supporters of the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso, stormed his Kano residence on Sunday.

The development is coming on the heels of the defection of the state governor, Abba Yusuf.

Kwankwaso, who disclosed this in a statement he posted on his official Facebook, said the supporters came from the Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state.

The former governor of Kano State thanked the supporters for standing firmly by him during what he described as a trying moment.

He said, “This afternoon, I was honoured to receive a solidarity visit at my residence in Kano from the resilient people of Nasarawa Local Government.

“In our discussions, I reaffirmed my profound appreciation for their unwavering courage and determination.

“Despite the recent trials that have tested the faith and fortitude of many, they have chosen to stand firmly with us—not for personal gain, but for the collective progress and wellbeing of our people.

“Together, we remain resolute in upholding and advancing the timeless ideals of Kwankwasiyya.

“Thank you once again for your loyalty and solidarity. The journey continues, and victory is assured by the grace of God and the will of the people”.

DAILY POST reports that Governor Yusuf recently dumped NNPP for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Kwankwaso, who was disappointed by the governor’s decision, declared the day he left the party ‘World Betrayal Day’.

PoliticsLagos Announces New Tax Law Empowers State To Seize Funds From Bank Accounts, by Ofunaofu(op): 3:48pm On Jan 25
Lagos announces new tax law empowers state to seize funds from bank accounts, friends, family members

According to the service, the law permits direct recovery where a taxpayer fails to remit an established tax liability when due.

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service has disclosed that the new tax law empowers state revenue agencies to recover unpaid taxes by seizing funds from the bank accounts of employers, friends, business partners, tenants, and other third parties connected to a tax defaulter.

LIRS informed Lagos residents and business owners that the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025 authorises the service to deduct outstanding taxes from rent payments, as well as from accounts belonging to business partners, family members and friends who hold money on behalf of a defaulting taxpayer.

According to the service, the law permits direct recovery where a taxpayer fails to remit an established tax liability when due, expanding enforcement beyond the defaulter’s personal accounts to include those of individuals or entities financially linked to them.

LIRS explained that under Section 60 of the NTAA 2025, the state may issue substitution notices to banks, employers, tenants and any person holding or owing money to a tax defaulter, directing them to remit such funds to the service in settlement of the debt.

“Where a taxpayer fails, neglects or refuses to settle any established outstanding tax liability when due, LIRS may exercise its power under Section 60 to direct any of the following persons to pay the amount owed by the taxpayer: banks and other financial institutions, employers, tenants, debtors, or customers of the taxpayer, agents, business partners, and any person holding money on behalf of the taxpayer and any person owing money to the taxpayer, whether presently due or accruing,” LIRS wrote in a statement.

In such cases, LIRS said it would issue a substitution notice to the defaulter’s bank or to those of third parties holding funds on the taxpayer’s behalf.

Financial institutions are mandated by law to notify LIRS of the account balance of the defaulter and those of their friends and family and remit the outstanding taxes “without delay.”

A receipt confirming payment of outstanding taxes is then sent to the LIRS e-Tax platform:www.stax.lirs.net.

The service warned that under the newly implemented law, failure to comply with a substitution directive constitutes an offence, noting that friends, business associates and other third parties connected to tax defaulters may bear financial responsibility where they are found to be holding funds belonging to the taxpayer.

The NTAA 2025, since its January 1 implementation, has generated rancour among lawmakers who accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of making unapproved alterations in the gazetted versions

PoliticsRe: FACT CHECK: Did Obasanjo Refer To Tinubu As A Thoroughbred Politician? by Ofunaofu: 1:20pm On Jan 25
We all knew it was all lies and propaganda.

If you truly want to understand Tinubu’s character beyond inherited praise, go read the late Yinka Odumakin’s 2019 open letter to him, written by someone who knew him closely, not an opponent. It raises serious questions about his politics, integrity, and the long-standing allegations that follow his name. Those issues didn’t come from social-media hatred; they came from documented public discourse.

PoliticsGbajabiamila Urges Nigerian Politicians To Uphold Principles Of Power Rotation by Ofunaofu(op): 1:10pm On Jan 25
The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has called on political actors to preserve the principle of a rotational presidency between the north and the south to sustain Nigeria’s peace and unity.

He made the call on Saturday in Abuja at a national summit organised by the National Forum of Former Legislators (NFFL), with the theme “National Unity and Nation Building: Beyond 2031.”

Mr Gbajabiamila, a former speaker of the House of Representatives, said that the rotational arrangement was deliberately designed to manage differences, ease tensions, prevent needless conflict, and keep Nigeria steadily moving forward on the path of unity and progress.

“The principle of a rotational presidency between the north and south stands as one of the clearest expressions of principled compromise in the service of our national interest,” Mr Gbajabiamila stated.

He added, “It was not borne out of weakness, but of the wisdom of earlier generations of political leaders who understood that in a diverse nation such as ours, inclusion is the foundation of stability.”

The former legislator said that building unity across ethnic and tribal lines required deliberate effort, sustained dialogue, cross-regional alliances, and inclusive narratives that affirmed the dignity of all groups.

According to him, political leaders must consistently communicate that disagreement is not hostility, that diversity is not disloyalty, and that compromise in the national interest is not weakness but statesmanship.

The former lawmaker said those seeking to upend the rotational presidency principle in pursuit of narrow, short-term political ambitions must pause and reflect.

He stressed that no personal aspiration and transient political gain should be allowed to endanger the hard-won balance that sustains the country or to place individual desires above the enduring interests of Nigeria and the collective well-being of its people.

Mr Gbajabiamila identified the temptation to mobilise identity as a shortcut to power as a critical challenge facing Nigerian politics.

He said that ethnic and tribal affiliations, deeply rooted in history and culture, could easily be transformed into instruments of political exclusion.

The former speaker said that while such strategies might yield short-term gains, they could inflict long-term damage on national cohesion.

“When political competition is conducted in ways that amplify ethnic suspicion, tribal rivalry, or religious fear, it corrodes trust and weakens the foundations of the state,” he warned.

Mr Gbajabiamila said a prolonged internal division would have extended and devastating consequences for Nigeria’s well-being.

He said it would impair the ability to respond to external economic shocks, deepen existing social and security challenges, and leave Nigeria vulnerable in a world where weaker states are often compelled to accept unfavourable terms in trade, finance, and security.

According to him, disunity at this moment does not merely delay progress; it multiplies risk, magnifies vulnerability, and transmits insecurity across generations.

“Without unity, development plans falter, reforms lose momentum, and the promise of prosperity recedes further from reach,” he said.

Mr Gbajabiamila expressed President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to engaging Nigerians across all divides in a spirit of fairness, inclusion, and shared responsibility.

He said the administration was also committed to strengthening unity through equitable development and responsive governance.

“Let us commit to a politics that seeks to persuade rather than provoke, to unite rather than divide, and to elevate rather than diminish our common humanity,” he added.

Yet a Tinubu supporter, an Agbadorian called hopexter, was confidently arguing in another thread that the same NELFUND loan is free education for university students.

It’s already being built and strengthened by him. He’s even giving free education and monthly stipends to university students which in turn relieves parents from the burden of school fees which has never happened before in Nigeria.

See...eeh I'm not an APC or Tinubu supporter but I openly support his policies. 2027 will be his easiest election. In 2023
His president worked against him.
His party worked against him.
The performance of then president worked against him.
Someone that has no performance record rode on the frustration of the youths and ordinary people.

In 2027 we will ask the opposition clear questions and they must tell us what they will do differently and not China, Egypt, Malaysia etc.

Will they bring back the multiple exchange rates and subsidize the naira?
Will they bring back fuel subsidy?
Will they cancel the tax reforms?
Will they cancel NELFUND?
Will they merge ministry of petroleum resources and gas resources as it was before?
Will they stop the efforts to upgrade our infrastructure because Obi said that provision of infrastructure doesn't grow an economy.
Etc etc.
They must never accept to use any of the products of the reforms because they condemned all.

Only when we look at their alternatives that we will agree to support them. The man that they want to unseat had his clear program from day one and he is pursuing it with a single mind even at the risk of his popularity.
Supporting policies without owning the outcomes is a neat trick, but Nigerians don’t live in policy memos, we live in results.

You say 2027 will be easy, yet the same “clear program” has delivered historic inflation, a weaker naira, shrinking purchasing power, and more people sliding into poverty all by design, we’re told, so criticism is now framed as impatience.

Asking the opposition what they’ll reverse is fair. But the tougher question is this; how long should Nigerians suffer before these reforms start working, and who takes responsibility if they don’t?

Reform isn’t bravery just because it’s painful, it’s only credible if it improves lives within a reasonable time. Until then, calling hardship 'vision' and dissent 'ignorance' won’t win arguments… or votes.

At this point, even Agbadorians can no longer deny that their tin-god is offering money to governors to decamp to their party. As well as the prospect of neutralising their opposition in the APC by becoming the automatic candidate. It may appear too good a deal to pass up on by the governors but it has its risks. There will be too many aggrieved politicians in the ruling party whose ambitions have been scuttled in favour of the president's own ambition. It may also not translate to votes for the president come 2027. Despite APC having 25 governors in 2023, Tinubu won only 12 states, and only half of those states were APC-governed states.
Exactly. Defections driven by patronage don’t equal popular support. Even in 2023, despite APC having 25 governors, Tinubu won only 12 states. That alone shows governors don’t deliver votes.

With widespread public knowledge that defecting governors are being enticed with figures like N250 billion, this strategy only breeds resentment within the party. You can buy defections, but you can’t buy the electorate

Tinubu did not declare the free Education which means it’s you who declare the Nelfund student loan scheme isn’t it?

Student loan is almost same with free education. You’ll only need to be employed for you to have your student loan paid back to government.

If this loan scheme was on all these years, there would have been more educated Nigerians. Anything to relief suffering parents from financial burden at this hard times. God bless President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and God bless Nigeria.
No, student loans are not almost free education unless repayment suddenly became optional, which it didn’t.
A loan is debt. Free education is zero cost. Confusing the two isn’t optimism, it’s either financial illiteracy or bad faith.

To be frank, anyone claiming loans are almost free sounds like a chronic loan defaulter who thinks obligation disappears after graduation.
You’re correct about one thing though: Tinubu never declared free education, because no such law, gazette, or executive order exists. NELFUND is a credit scheme, not a tuition-free policy. Dressing debt up as generosity doesn’t change its nature.

Saying you only pay back when employed doesn’t make it free, it makes it deferred repayment. Interest still exists. Liability still exists. The state still expects its money back.

Relieving parents by transferring the burden to students isn’t reform, it’s kicking the bill down the road. If loans automatically created prosperity, Nigeria wouldn’t be drowning in unpaid public and private debt already.
And please God bless Nigeria is not evidence. Neither is sentiment. Policy is proven by law, budgets, outcomes, and accountability, not applause lines.

No one is against helping students. We’re against lying about what help actually is. Calling debt 'free education' insults every Nigerian who understands basic economics and every graduate who will spend years repaying it.

Im telling Lies? I guess you don’t live in Nigeria. Ask any university students around you. Google Nelfund and see how Nigerians are taking advantage of it.

I know you are delusional which has made hatred blindfold your sense of reasoning.
Talking about credibility in Nigeria politics makes you a child. Which of the politician is credible? Is it Atiku that has ruined the country or Obi that didn’t know what to do as governor instead had the states resources embezzled into foreign account in Pandora for safety. The rest is as bad as Tinubu but Tinubu is better than the rest of them all.
Student loans are not free education.

NELFUND is a loan scheme, not a tuition-free policy. Show me the law, gazette, or executive order where Tinubu declared free education at any level. You can’t, because it doesn’t exist.

Borrowing money and graduating with debt is the opposite of free education.
Saying I should 'ask any university student' isn’t evidence. Policy is evidence. Law is evidence. Gazette is evidence. Anecdotes don’t replace facts.
As for “everyone is bad”, that’s not an argument, it’s an excuse.
If credibility doesn’t matter to you, say that plainly. But don’t pretend corruption becomes acceptable because others are also corrupt.

Democracy isn’t built on moral bankruptcy.
Hardship without accountability is not reform.
Praising suffering while dismissing integrity doesn’t make you realistic, it makes you complicit.
If Tinubu is better, prove it with verifiable records, not insults.

Listen, facts don’t hate anyone. They just don’t bend for propaganda.

PoliticsKajuru Kidnapping Heart-rending, Alarming – Southern Kaduna Christians Leaders by Ofunaofu(op): 8:53am On Jan 22
The Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders Association (SKCLA) has strongly condemned the recent kidnapping of 177 persons from Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Its Chairman, Apostle Dr Emmanuel Nuhu Kure, in a statement on Thursday and made available to DAILY POST described the incident as heart-rending, alarming, and unacceptable, noting that it marks the first time in the history of the region that members of three different Christian denominations were abducted in a single day during church services.

The Association lamented that the Kajuru incident adds to the growing list of unresolved abductions across Southern Kaduna, particularly in Kauru, Kachia, and other vulnerable communities, where families continue to live in agony over the fate of their loved ones.

While calling on the Kaduna State Government, security agencies, and all relevant authorities to intensify efforts to secure the immediate and unconditional release of the Kajuru victims, the Christian leaders also urged decisive action to end the recurring cycle of kidnappings in the region.

Apostle Dr Kure explained, “As a spiritual response to the crisis, the Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders Association has declared a two-day fasting and prayer programme founded on Psalm 57:2–3, for the safe return of all abducted persons across the region.”

According to the statement, the two-day fasting will commence on Friday this week and will be rounded up with a special prayer session in all churches across Southern Kaduna on Sunday.

The statement explained that the call to fasting and prayer was a united cry to God for mercy, protection, and the safe return of “our brothers and sisters from captivity.”

He also explained that it is a demonstration of rare unity, as believers across denominations stand together at a critical moment in history and called on all Christians in Southern Kaduna and beyond to participate wholeheartedly in the fast.

Kure also appealed to the wider Nigerian society to stand in solidarity with affected communities, especially families of victims in Kajuru, Kauru, Kachia, and other flashpoints, saying that they will not be silent in the face of evil, “neither will we lose hope.”

He said, “We trust God for divine intervention, and we continue to demand accountability and concrete action from those entrusted with the security of lives and property.”
