A woman has vowed never to swim in a lake again after what she initially thought was driftwood turned out to be a massive watersnake that had apparently choked to death on a fish.

Amber Conley and Brad Walton were boating on Brookville Lake in Union County Indiana, USA when they spotted the dark mass in the water and fished it out.

What they retrieved from the murky waters was however, a snake - five foot long by Amber's estimate.

"He leaned over and said 'it's a snake eating a huge fish!'. We didn't believe him so he grabbed the buoy hook and scooped it out," Conley told local media. "It was dead and smelled awful!"

"If we could have stretched it out, it would have been almost as tall as me and I'm 5'2," Conley said.

Photos from the scene show the snake's mouth stuffed with a large fish. Amber believes the fish's sharp fins were caught in the serpent's mouth and it likely was unable to swallow the fish or spit it back out.

Despite her love for the water, in her original Facebook post, she wrote: "Side note: I'm never swimming in the lake again. BOAT 4 SALE! While fueling up today, we came across a dead snake that had choked on a huge fish"

Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden experts believe the animal is a non venomous Northern Water Snake.

"From the photo, our reptile team thinks it’s a Northern Water Snake, Nerodia sipedon (most likely). They are non-venomous and usually smaller, 3’ total length is about average," Angela Hatke, the Digital Engagement and Publicity Manager at the zoo said.

"They will stay well away from you in the water so go boating stress-free!"

Paris St-Germain's Idrissa Gueye refused to play in a match to avoid wearing a rainbow symbol in support of LGBTQ+ rights, BBC Sport understands.

The 32-year-old former Aston Villa and Everton midfielder was absent from Saturday's 4-0 win over Montpellier.

PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino said only that Senagalese Gueye missed the game for "personal reasons".

The French Football Federation (FFF) has reportedly written to Gueye to clarify why he was absent.

BBC Sport has approached Gueye's representatives for comment.

Crystal Palace's Cheikhou Kouyate and Watford's Ismaila Sarr have posted on social media in apparent support of their Senegal team-mate's stance.

Kouyate posted a picture of himself alongside Gueye on Instagram, with a caption calling Gueye "a real man". Watford winger Sarr posted a picture of him and Gueye accompanied by three heart emojis and the caption "100%".

In response to Sarr's post, Watford reiterated their commitment to equality and diversity, adding "this includes the willingness to offer further education and support to any of its employees".

At a news conference on Wednesday, Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira said if his player had posted in relation to Gueye, he would speak to them. "It's going to be an in-house conversation," he added.

Homosexuality is illegal in Senegal and punishable by prison sentences of up to five years. It is also illegal in Qatar, where PSG's owners hail from and where the men's 2022 World Cup will be staged later this year.

The top Twitter trend in the world on Wednesday was #WeareallIdrissa with tweets sent to support Gueye's stance.

Gueye's stance is in contrast to the overwhelmingly positive response from football towards Blackpool's 17-year-old forward Jake Daniels coming out as gay on Monday - the first openly gay men's professional footballer in Britain since Justin Fashanu 30 years ago.

For the second successive season, clubs in France have been invited to mark 17 May's International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia by wearing rainbow-design numbers on the back of their shirts.

In addition to missing Saturday's win over Montpellier, Gueye, who arrived at PSG for £30m in July 2019, missed last year's show of solidarity citing gastroenteritis, according to Le Parisien newspaper, who first reported the reason for his absence.

The AFP news agency said on Wednesday it had seen a letter from the FFF's ethics board calling on Gueye to explain why he missed Saturday's game.

The letter, says AFP, calls for him to "issue a public apology" or to say that the rumours he refused to play are "unfounded".

The letter reportedly adds if he did refuse to play he would be "validating discriminatory behaviour".

PSG said on Wednesday that they were "very proud to wear this shirt".

"The biggest stars of world football were on the field on Saturday and expressed the club's commitment to the fight against homophobia and all forms of discrimination," it added.

Gueye's stance has been supported by prominent politicians in Senegal.

The country's president Macky Sall wrote on Twitter that Gueye's Muslim beliefs must be respected, while sport minister Matar Ba wrote that Gueye was backed by his country's people, alongside a picture of the midfielder on pilgrimage to Mecca.

A man has been hailed a hero after he saved a toddler from falling from a height of 100 feet after she was seen hanging from a window of an eighth-floor flat.

The three-year-old toddler had used cushions and toys to climb to the window ledge before she slipped and was left hanging for dear life.

The child was reportedly left alone in Kazakhstan’s capital Nur-Sultan, while her mum went out shopping.

Sabit Shontakbaev, 37, and a friend were on the way to work when they noticed the situation.

The father-of-four rushed into the building and knocked on the apartment door below the girl’s.

He was then filmed climbing outside of the window.

In the clip being shared on social media, Sabit is spotted standing outside of the window as he urges her to let go.

Reaching up, he grabbed the girl’s legs and pulled her down, cradling her in his arms before passing her through the open window to his friend.

Sabit has been celebrated for being a hero and was awarded a medal by the city’s deputy emergency minister.

He said: “I did not have a safety harness, so my friend held my legs. At that moment, I didn’t think about anything. I just wanted to help the child.

“Afterwards, I went straight to work with my friend. Nobody knew that this would happen I just saved the child and left, and in the news and social networks they suddenly began to call me a hero.

“I do not consider my actions heroic. To me, everyone should lend a helping hand in such situations.”

Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations said in a statement: “By the time of arrival, the ministry said it was established that a man had saved the child dangling from the window on the eighth floor.

“No one was with the girl, born in 2019. Fortunately, our hero Shontakbaev Sabit, born in 1985, seeing the hanging, crying child, without hesitation and risking his own life, took emergency action and literally caught and saved the little girl’s life in a matter of seconds.

Cautioning parents against leaving their children unsupervised, the ministry said: “Dear parents, this was a happy occasion when the child was rescued safely, but there are many other incidents with a tragic outcome.”

It has been six years since Ramires last played for Chelsea and the squad has undergone a huge transformation in that time - and apparently, so has the Brazilian.

While he has been rarely seen by Blues fans since his departure in January 2016, Ramires appeared in a recent compilation video on the club's official Instagram page with a striking new look. The club had received messages of support from former players such as Willian, Cesc Fabregas and Michael Essien, with Ramires joining the well wishes.

And the 35-year-old, sporting a raised new hairstyle and neatly-trimmed goatee, said: "Hi guys, Ramires here. Just wanted to wish you [the] best of luck before the FA Cup final," he said. "Let's have a repeat of our final win 10 years ago against Liverpool! Good luck guys!"

It represents a new look for the veteran footballer after sporting a shiny, bald look for the majority of his time at Stamford Bridge. Sadly, his message of support did little to help Chelsea's fortunes after their 6-5 penalty shootout defeat to Liverpool on Saturday.

It was a rare appearance from the ex-Chelsea man after spending the final years of his career in China in Brazil. He secured a lucrative move to Jiangsu Suning six years ago for around £25million and left with cult hero status after winning the Champions League, Premier League, Europa League and FA Cup during his time in west London.

He scored some crucial goals throughout the years for the Blues, but perhaps none more so than his delightful chip against Barcelona at Camp Nou, which set Chelsea on course for the Champions League final. He also netted against Liverpool in the 2011-12 FA Cup final with a powerful strike.

The midfielder is still without a club after leaving Palmeiras in November 2020 and it was expected that he was going to retire, although there has been no official announcement from the former Brazil international on that front.

He even made a surprising declaration that he wanted to return to Chelsea before the end of his career in 2018: “Chelsea? I’ll always have special affection for them and I want to play for them again before finishing my career," he said. "I know the doors of Stamford Bridge will always be open to me and that wearing their jersey again would be spectacular.”

However, there has been no call from Thomas Tuchel yet to summon Ramires back to the club and it doesn't seem likely there will be one forthcoming. But Chelsea fans will always remember Ramires fondly and for the tireless efforts the midfielder used to produce while wearing the blue shirt, although they may have some trouble identifying him after his recent makeover.

A job-seeker landed himself a job despite getting a face tattoo hours before his interview – but viewers were shocked by how the inking looks.

Maiko Newell, from Connecticut, had sent out dozens of job applications as he was looking for a bartender position.

He also has a side hustle as a front man of a local band, Rakefire.

In a viral video he posted in July, Maiko got an inking on his face right by the eye.

"Wanna know something funny? I have a job interview at 4pm," he says to the artist in a calm voice.

But the artist appears to be taken aback, replying: "Do you f***ing really?"

"Yeah," Maiko confirms as he looks into camera, showing the face tattoo.

But viewers were confused by the bulbous shape that looks like a penis.

Maiko later clarified to his viewers that it was not a penis and he added: "I had many interviews before this one, my resume is pretty much back of the house.

I have some management experience and I have some surveying experience but I applied to be a bartender because that's what I really want to do.

"And yeah, I got the job. Who wouldn't hire me? Let's be real."

A woman who was pronounced dead shocked her loved ones at her funeral after they heard "knocking" from inside her coffin.

Rosa Isabel Cespedes Callaca dramatically interrupted the service by banging on the box in the city of Lambayque in Peru.

She had been announced as a fatal casualty after being involved in a catastrophic crash which also took the life of her brother-in-law.

Her three nephews were left with serious injuries following the incident which took place on the region’s Chiclayo-Picsi road.

Following the tragedy, Rosa was placed into a coffin ahead of her funeral last Tuesday (April 26), but mourners gasped when they heard noises at the start of the service.

Her relatives, who had hoisted the structure onto their shoulders, immediately lowered it and opened the lid to find her alive and peering at them.

Cemetery caretaker Juan Segundo Cajo commented: "[She] opened her eyes and was sweating. I immediately went to my office and called the police."

Her family picked up the coffin and took it to the Referential Hospital Ferrenafe in Lambayeque, with Rosa still inside, reports the Metro.

Concerned medics put Rosa on life-support after they noticed she had weak signs of life but she sadly died a few hours later.

Her family are calling on healthcare bosses for answers to find out why she was declared dead "in the first place".

Her aunt told local media: "We want to know why my niece reacted yesterday, when we were taking her to be buried.

"We have the videos in which she pushes and touches the coffin."

Rosa's relatives believe she may have been in a coma after the accident which could be the reason medics thought she was dead.

Police in Peru are now investigating the incident, which took place at the Lambayeque Regional Hospital where she first received treatment.
