The Premier League's 20 clubs met on Monday to discuss the fixture list after six weekend games were postponed.

The postponement of a round of games over Christmas was a possibility.

No vote took place and so two rounds of fixtures are in place across five days from 26 December, while the EFL will play games "where it is safe to do so".

It had been expected that the Premier League's gameweek 20, starting on 28 December, would be postponed in order to ease the pressure on Premier League squads.

Instead, clubs have been advised if they have 13 fit players, plus a goalkeeper, they should fulfil their games.

"The health and wellbeing of all concerned remains our priority and the league will continue to monitor and reflect public health guidance, always proceeding with caution," the Premier League said.

FA Cup replays in rounds three and four have however been scrapped and talks are ongoing on whether to reduce EFL Cup semi-final ties to one-leg matches.

On Monday, Premier League figures showed 77% players have had two vaccination jabs, a rise from 68% in October.

Some players and staff have received three vaccinations but 92% have had at least one.

The Premier League said Monday's meeting saw "a range of issues discussed" including adapting the Covid-19 postponement process. Saturday's fixture between Aston Villa and Burnley was called off at two hours' notice.

Last week, Premier League players returned 42 positive Covid-19 tests in a seven-day period, the highest number since the start of the pandemic. Updated figures for the most recent seven-day period are expected later on Monday.

In Sunday's Premier League fixtures, Chelsea named just six substitutes for their draw at Wolves and Liverpool drew at Tottenham without a number of first-team names.

Five of Saturday's six fixtures were called off. Chelsea tried to get Sunday's fixture at Wolves postponed and boss Thomas Tuchel said his players were put at "huge risk... not just because of Covid but also physically".

It is understood Liverpool were among a group of clubs who pushed for the postponement of gameweek 20.

After Sunday's draw at Spurs, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said playing on 26 and 28 December was not feasible.

"It's impossible, we don't have the players," Klopp said. "We have to think we will get an extra case or two. We cannot just push it all through. The 26th and 28th, that's not possible. We would prefer to play but we need help with the fixtures."

The seven Premier League teams still in the Carabao Cup face ties on 21 and 22 December and will play three Premier League fixtures between then and 2 January.

Luis Suarez claims Lionel Messi is "suffering" at Paris Saint Germain just four months on from his dramatic Barcelona exit.

Messi was forced to leave the club due to La Liga's financial regulations despite a willingness to stay and an agreement to play for a fraction of his wage.

After realising staying wasn't an option, the 34-year-old joined PSG on a free transfer, and while the Parisian club are top of Ligue 1, life hasn't been all that easy for Messi.

He hasn't found the back of the net as much as he'd have liked (four goals in 11 games), and he's also struggled to gel with striker partners Neymar and Kylian Mbappe up front for the French side.

According to Suarez, who remains a close pal of Messi's, the Argentine has admitted he's struggling in Paris, particularly with the cold weather.

"He told me that when he is playing in the cold, he suffers a lot and with the snow. You have to get used to what the cold weather there is like, sure," the Uruguayan told TNT Sports.

Despite being released by Barcelona last year, Suarez says he still talks to the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner every day.

His sudden departure played a key role in Messi handing in a transfer request in 2020. He eventually stayed put, but would be released a year later after the Catalan club's financial situation worsened.

Suarez joined Atletico Madrid on a free transfer, leading the club to a La Liga triumph after scoring 21 goals last season.

"It was difficult feelings for us both to face each other at the Camp Nou," Suarez added.

"On the other hand, when we play for Uruguay against Argentina it is different, they are always beautiful games and having Leo as a rival is difficult and complicated."

The former US president, who is banned from Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, hopes to launch his Truth Social app next year.

He claims it will provide a forum that will not restrict freedom of speech.

And he argued the financial backing “sends an important message to Big Tech that censorship and political discrimination must end”.

A statement on the company’s website reads that the app “encourages an open, free, and honest global conversation without discriminating against political ideology.”

Digital World Acquisition Corp raised $293 million (£250m) for the venture in September, but it is unclear who the rest of the investors are.

The firm is expected to merge with the former president’s Trump Media and Technology Group.

The suspect in a Michigan school shooting will face charges of terrorism and first-degree murder following a rampage that left four students dead and seven injured.

Prosecutors on Wednesday charged Oxford High School student Ethan Crumbley, 15, as an adult.

He has pleaded not guilty. Police are yet to identify a motive in the attack.

The victims were named as Tate Myre, 16, Madisyn Baldwin, 17, Hana St Juliana, 14, and Justin Shilling, 17.

Announcing the charges on Wednesday, Oakland County prosecutor Karen McDonald said her office had "a mountain of digital evidence" to show the suspect had planned the attack "well before the incident".

One such instance is a video of the suspect the night before the shooting, in which he discusses killing students.

"This isn't even a close call," she said. "This was not an impulsive act."

She added that it was "absolutely premeditated".

Ms McDonald said the teen will face one count of terrorism, four counts of first-degree murder, seven counts of assault with intent to murder, and 12 counts of possession of a firearm, with further charges likely as the investigation unfolds.

At a later news conference, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said charging the suspect as an adult was "the most appropriate" action.

"I agree with holding this individual wholly and completely responsible for the deplorable, tragic event that occurred by his choice," he said.

The suspect will be transferred from a juvenile detention centre to the local county jail, where he will be held without bond.

The teenager has refused to speak with investigators on the instructions of his family.

The sheriff stressed that the teenager had never been on the radar of law enforcement or the school. He also added there was no evidence the suspect had been bullied by his peers.

"There is nothing that he could have faced that would warrant senseless, absolutely brutal violence on other kids," said Mr Bouchard.

He noted that the suspect's parents had been called to the school hours before the shooting "for behaviour in the classroom that was concerning".

Investigators have found the suspect loaded his firearm - purchased by his father on Friday - in the bathroom and then walked through the hallway firing more than 30 shots from the weapon.

Mr Bouchard said the suspect appeared to fire indiscriminately during the attack at the school of around 1,700 students.

Tate Myre reportedly tried to disarm the shooter, and more than 75,000 people have signed a petition calling for the school to rename its football stadium after Tate.

The 16-year-old, who played on the football team, died in a police officer's car on the way to hospital.

Madisyn and Hana also died on Tuesday, while Justin was confirmed dead on Wednesday.

Among those admitted to hospital, a 17-year-old female student remains in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Joe Biden has warned that he will not accept "red lines" set by Moscow as fears mount that Russia is planning an imminent invasion of Ukraine.

The US president said he will make it "very, very difficult" for Russia to invade its neighbour.

Meanwhile, US media has reported that intelligence officials fear an invasion could begin in early 2022.

It comes as Ukraine says Russia has boosted its military at the border and amassed some 94,000 troops there.

A video call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Mr Biden to ease tensions is expected this week. The US President told reporters he is expecting to have a long discussion with the Russian leader, and warned that he will not "accept anybody's red lines".

"What I am doing is putting together what I believe to be the most comprehensive and meaningful set of initiatives to make it very, very difficult for Mr Putin to go ahead and do what people are worried he's going to do," Mr Biden said as he left for the presidential retreat at Camp David.

While Mr Biden did not set out what precise actions the US plans to take, American and Ukrainian officials warned again this week that severe economic sanctions are on the table against Russia.

On Thursday Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the US had threatened fresh sanctions after his meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Mr Biden's comments come as the Washington post reported that US intelligence officials fear the Kremlin is planning a multi-front offensive as soon as early next year involving up to 175,000 troops.

Officials have also reportedly seen an increase in propaganda efforts through the use of proxies and media outlets to denigrate Ukraine and Nato ahead of a potential invasion.

Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksiy Reznikov has said that he believes the most likely timing of any Russian escalation "will be the end of January".

This week Britain's most senior military officer said "we have to be on our guard" about the potential for conflict in the region.

Gen Sir Nick Carter told the BBC that he "distinctly hoped" there would not be a war with Russia, but added that Nato would have to be ready for that eventuality.

Tensions between Russia and Ukraine are nothing new. In 2014 Russia annexed Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula and soon after started to back a separatist insurgency in Ukraine's east that has seen some 14,000 people killed in periodic fighting.

More recently, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky has moved against Russian interests, slapping sanctions on a powerful friend of President Putin and banning broadcasts by three pro-Russian TV stations.

Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly wants PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino to succeed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as Manchester United manager.

That is according to talkSPORT journalist Ian Abrahams, who made the revelation on Twitter.

United are on the hunt for their fifth permanent manager since Ferguson retired following the sacking of Solskjaer on Sunday morning.

The Norwegian boss was relieved of his duties in the wake of United's humiliating 4-1 defeat to Watford.

Ferguson still holds considerable influence at Old Trafford, and was a key player in the deal to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo.

And the veteran Scot reportedly has a clear idea of who he wants to see replace Solskjaer in the home dugout.

According to Abrahams, Ferguson wants Pochettino as the club's next manager.

He cites a source close to the club who suggests current favourite Zinedine Zidane will join PSG, allowing former Tottenham boss Pochettino to take up the gig at United.

The Argentine is on a list of five names under consideration by the Old Trafford hierarchy which also includes Ralf Rangnick, Erik ten Hag, Brendan Rodgers and Zidane.

Ferguson's reported preference for Pochettino should come as little surprise.

The Red Devils legend publicly praised Pochettino in April 2016, telling reporters: "Well the manager has been fantastic. They [Spurs] have a bad record of managers, there is no doubt about that.

"They have had so many over the years, but this lad has composure. You never see him ruffled and the way his team play is a testimony to the work he is doing.

"The most important thing for English football is how many English and young players are in his team. He understands the advantage of playing young people. They won't let you down and they have been fantastic."

Tottenham MP David Lammy revealed a conversation he had with Fergie about Pochettino while he was manager of Tottenham.

The politician said: "About six weeks ago, I sat next to Sir Alex Ferguson at a dinner in support of grassroots football abroad.

"He said to me, 'I think you guys have got the best manager in the Premier League.' Alex Ferguson said that."

And the good feeling between the two men doesn't end there. In 2016, Pochettino was famously snapped meeting Ferguson for lunch in London, sparking speculation that he would one day take over at Old Trafford.

Pochettino later described the lunch as a "dream come true".

He added: "When I was young, when I started my career as a manager, he was always my inspiration, my reference and when you can share two hours with a person who, for me, was the greatest manager in the world, the history of football, you can only enjoy."

Anna Tereshkova, 52, was filmed performing some “snow angels” in the skimpy outfit in Novosibirsk, Russia, in freezing -20C temperatures.

"This is Siberia! Minus 20, what a beauty” she posted on Instagram in a video showing her wiping herself with snow.

The vice-mayor of the city then encouraged fellow Russians to “bathe in the snow” as it is the “best way of toughening up”.

“We must use the advantages of Siberia,” she continued.

“Strong and healthy people have always lived here.

"Siberians also strengthen their health - they ski and skate even at minus 20C or colder.”

But the brazen stunt hasn’t quite had the reception intended.

Voters have flooded the Instagram post with negative comments calling the scenes “disgusting”.

“Very strange camera angle,” one viewer wrote.

"Such videos do not correspond to your status as a politician at all.

“Ashamed of you. And for such a shame to our city.”

Another commented: “Teachers are fired for such photos, but the leading officials in Novosibirsk are allowed. Disgusting.”

But some were impressed by her antics, with one saying: “Anna, you are not afraid of frost in Siberia. Respect…”

It is not the first time Russians have been snapped stripping off in the freezing cold.

Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has criticised media outlets for mistakenly using his image in stories about Manchester City's Benjamin Mendy.

City and France full-back Benjamin Mendy has been charged with six counts of rape and one of sexual assault, and remains in custody.

Photos of Edouard Mendy and his cousin, Real Madrid's Ferland Mendy, have been used to illustrate articles.

Edouard Mendy said their use was "highly symbolic".

"Sad to see that in 2021, in France as well as in England, for some, black people have neither names nor distinct faces," the Senegal international wrote on Instagram.

"These 'mistakes' of photos appear anecdotal, but actually they are quite the opposite, they are highly symbolic.

"It's not that complicated to differentiate two faces, especially when the football jersey is of valuable help!"

In August, Benjamin Mendy was charged with four counts of rape and one of sexual assault.

Those charges related to alleged attacks on three women over the age of 16 at his home between October 2020 and August 2021.

On Wednesday, the 27-year-old appeared in court to face two further charges of rape, related to alleged attacks in Macclesfield in July and August.

He was suspended by City after being charged by police, pending an investigation.
