Lineup

Good lineup if confirmed, with the exception of Moses Simon. I would've preferred Ejuke come in for Simon then move Chukwueze into attack and Ejuke or nwakali covers in midfield. Playing 4 attacking players against Egypt. Na overconfidence we go call am?

Crime / Woman Who Killed 7 Men, Demanded Her Own Execution, Saying "I'll Kill Again" by ogbiwa: 9:09am On Jan 10, 2022
Aileen Wuornos, a Florida serial killer who killed seven men between November 1989 and November 1990, had given conflicting reasons for the seven murders, describing them as self-defence after the men had raped her, and on another occasion simply as robberies gone wrong.

But when she was asked directly why she had killed the men, she simply said: “because the cops let me keep killing them”.

In 2001 Wuornos applied to the Florida Supreme Court, demanding that they carry out her death sentence.

"I killed those men," she wrote, "robbed them as cold as ice. And I'd do it again, too. There's no chance in keeping me alive or anything, because I'd kill again.

"I have hate crawling through my system,” she said.

“I am so sick of hearing this 'she's crazy' stuff. I've been evaluated so many times. I'm competent, sane, and I'm trying to tell the truth.”

Insisting that she knew exactly what she was doing at the time of the murders, she contradicted her lawyers’ insistence that she wasn’t mentally fit to make decisions about her appeal: “I’m one who seriously hates human life and would kill again,” she said.

Wuornos was the daughter of a sex offender who hanged himself in prison. She was raised by her alcoholic grandparents – her grandfather sexually abused her and she is also known to have engaged in incest with her brother by the time she was 11 years old.

Pregnant by the age of 14, Wuornos was thrown out of the family home and began to support herself with sex work.

At age 20, she met and married 69-year-old yacht club president, Lewis Gratz Fell. It’s this period in her life that’s covered by a new Netflix release.

She was arrested more than once for assault during her brief marriage to Fell, on one occasion hitting him with his own cane, leading Fell to apply for a restraining order against his young wife within weeks of the marriage.

Wuornos’s life spiralled into even more chaos, with a catalogue of assaults and drink-drive offences throughout the 1980s.

At the end of that decade she embarked on her murder spree. She was convicted of six murders. The body of the seventh victim, 65-year-old Peter Abraham Siems, was never found and while Wuornos had been driving his car at the time of her arrest, prosecutors chose not to pursue a charge against her for that killing.

Wuornos was executed by lethal injection at Florida State Prison on October 9, 2002. Her last words were: “I’’ll be back”.

Trying to compare AFCON with EUROS should be treated as an act of terrorism in a sane country.

Sports / Opinion: AFCON Or Euros, Which Is More Dramatic And Action Packed? by ogbiwa: 8:31am On Jan 10, 2022
Yes this is an opinion thread from yours truly.

I watched the AFCON opener yesterday between Cameroon and Burkina Faso and I must say, while the general quality of the football wasn't at par with Europe, but there was no dull moment throughout the 90 minutes.
The competition, the tackles, the long range shots, the general atmosphere, I must say it has something the Europeans don't have. There was a distinct African feel that you don't get in other competitions. Think about it, think back to the past 4 world cups: Russia, Brazil, South Africa and Germany. With the exception of what happened on the pitch, which one still evokes a nostalgic memory? It's south Africa. Who can forget the vuvuzelas, Waka waka, the African dances etc?

Like I said, it's an opinion thread, but if all other games match cameroon's match yesterday, then I must say it will be a great tournament to watch.

Say what you like about Africa, but AFCON is our own. Not Euros or Copa, but AFCON.

And for all comments already ridiculing the comparison, first, the comparison is not in quality of football but rather in drama and atmosphere, which African football has in quantum.
That you're a white man's stooge doesn't also mean you should be a white man's slave and dash him your brain. Yes Africa has major major issues which is no secret, but atleast have some backbone and personal honor rather than going all master worship on everything that has to do with the white man. You're African, not European.

Foreign Affairs / Ri Sol-ju: Meet Kim Jong-un's Wife Who Is A Former Cheerleader [PHOTOS] by ogbiwa: 8:13am On Jan 10, 2022
The wife of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was once a competitive cheerleader and singer who came from a prominent family before she married the dictator.

Before married life, Ri Sol-ju was an active cheerleader, visiting South Korea as a member of North Korea's cheering squad for the Asian Athletics Championships in 2005, reports CNN.

Apparently, Ri was also part of the North Korean Olympic cheerleading team too, when she was in her early 20s.

Ri, who is believed to be in her 30s and to have three children with her hubby, was also a singer in her former life as well.

It comes after the North Korean dictator celebrated his 38th birthday and 10 years reigning over the hermit state.

She went to China to study the craft, and was a singer with the Unhasu Orchestra, a popular orchestral group that featured traditional Korean singing.

In fact, it is rumoured that Ri first grabbed the dictator's attention while performing in a concert, however, The Sun reports that since her marriage, North Korean officials have tried to erase her singing past by confiscating bootleg CDs of her performances.

It is believed the former songstress comes from Chongjin, in North Korea's northern Hamgyong Province, and hails from the upper echelons of North Korean society with a gynecologist mother and professor father.

Although Ri and Kim Jong-un, 38, married in 2009 shortly after Kim Jong-il died from a heart attack, she only made her first official appearance as North Korea's First Lady in 2012, when she caused a stir for her Western-style clothing and appearance, reports the ABC.

In her official debut she wore peep toes shoes, toted a Dior bag and sported a short haircut. She also linked arms with her husband - all very controversial in North Korea's traditional society, which made her an instant fashion icon among young North Korean women.

Recently, a year long absence from state media in 2020 sparked concern and speculation over Ri's health, with death, illness, pregnancy or possibly an a falling out with Kim Jong-un as possible explanations for her absence.

Foreign Affairs / Man Parks Truck Filled With Dead Bodies At Mexico Governor's Mansion by ogbiwa: 8:34am On Jan 08, 2022
A truck with 10 dead bodies inside was dumped outside a state governor's office in Mexico, according to reports.

Authorities said that the corpses were left outside governor David Monreal’s office at Plaza de Armas in the central state of Zacatecas.

Officials said a man drove the vehicle into the plaza, left it there and then walked away, the Independent reports.

The square, which Lonely Planet says "buzzes at night with families promenading, children playing and occasional live music," was still decked out in Christmas decorations.

Two people have been arrested, the governor said in a tweet, adding: “We will not rest until peace and security return to our state.”

"They came to leave them here in front of the palace,” Mr Montreal said in a video. He added that the bodies looked like they had been beaten and had bruises all over them.

Referring to rising violence in the state, Mr Monreal promised that “bit by bit we will recover our peace”.

In November, a week after 10 bodies were found hanging from a bridge, another eight were publicly displayed, in what is thought to be a gang-related incident, in Zacatecas.

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador took a trip to Zacatecas in late November, pledging more support for Monreal.

He said: "We are going … to support David Monreal and give all our support to the people of Zacatecas.

"The entire cabinet of the federal government is going, today and tomorrow, to a security meeting. The entire security plan is going to be reinforced."

This will see 1,500 National Guard soldiers carrying automatic weapons being deployed onto the streets of Mexico, in an attempt to make it safe for tourists.

Also in November, one of Mexico's biggest drugs cartels issued an ominous warning to foreign tourists.

Writing on a hand-printed sign, dangling over the popular Tulum bazaar in Quintana Roo, a sign said: “Attention merchants of Tulum … this was a warning”

It refers to an incident in October last year where tourists were caught in the crossfire of a cartel war, and urges business owners in the area to keep paying “bribes” to the drug gangs.

According to local media, and the New York Post, there could be as many as 10 drug cartels vying to control of Tulum.

Sports / Barca's Coutinho Joins Aston Villa On Loan, Checkout Photos Of Him And His Wife by ogbiwa: 8:19am On Jan 08, 2022
Philippe Coutinho will be returning to the Premier League to play under the watchful eye of former teammate Steven Gerrard.

The former Liverpool player has joined up with Aston Villa on loan from Barcelona with an option to buy.

And undoubtedly, along with him will be his doting wife Aine, who’s been at the Brazilian superstar's side since childhood.

Indeed, the 28-year-old has been with the player from his days at Vasco da Gama, then Inter Milan, Liverpool, Barcelona - and now Villa.

Philippe has continued the trend of Latin American players staying true to their sweethearts. Lionel Messi married childhood sweetheart Antonella Roccuzzo in 2017.

While Luis Suarez and his girlfriend Sofi had to maintain a long-distance relationship when he was playing at Nacional.

Philippe and Aine met after a friend introduced the pair at a party in 2007. Philippe was just starting out his career at the time and they continued to grow up together in Rio de Janeiro.

It’s thought that the two lived away from each other when the attacker was on loan to Espanyol in 2012 - but it seemed to strengthen the relationship as they married just months later.

The couple have welcomed three children - daughters Maria and Esmeralda and son Philippe Junior.

Philippe has said of his wife via, according to SunSport. : "Aine plays a huge part in everything I do. We didn't study together, we didn't really have mutual friends, except for one, who had a party and we both went to it. We met there and sat together for a long time just talking.

"She asked me to be her boyfriend. There wasn't really a moment where we were like, 'OK we are together now.'

"We're from the same neighbourhood and so we just started seeing more and more of each other, going places together and it grew deeper and stronger."

Family / American Woman Shocked To Discover She's Related To Her Husband After DNA Test by ogbiwa: 8:03am On Jan 08, 2022
A woman was left horrified after learning she's actually related to her husband.

The woman has been married to her husband for about a year and the couple share a child together.

So when she discovered her partner was part Native American, she thought she'd do some digging.

She did some research and looked into his family tree, before discovering the pair were in fact related.

After going back just a short way, she saw her maiden name on the list, so compared his family tree with her own.

That's when she found out her great grandmother was his great grand aunt.

Taking to Reddit, she said: "I did some genealogy research on my husband's maternal side of the family.

"I find his great-great-grandfather who is officially Seminole Indian.

"We are excited at this point because we find that his grandmother was also born in Oklahoma on Seminole territory.

"Well, I decide to go back a lil further and I become alarmed when I find my mother's maiden surname down the line.

"I look into it further and find that they were born on Chickasaw territory in Oklahoma."

She added: "At this point, my adrenaline kicks in and I immediately jump back to my mother's family tree.

"And there I found her. The woman that connects us. My second great-grandmother, and my husband third great grand aunt.

"The first thing I thought of was my mother-in-law saying 'I feel like she's a part of me' when we first met. Funny how that works.

"No going back now. We're married and we have a daughter together. It really is a small world."

After sharing her story online, many flooded to the comments section to discuss the situation.

One said: "It's fine, don't flip out over it.

"People tend to generally stay in one geographic area, lots of people all around you are distantly related somehow. Can't avoid it."

Another thought the discovery was quite cool.

They added: "I can see why it might disturb you at first. But your kid will have quite an interesting ancestry of being two tribes."

While a third wrote: "My husband and I did this too but found out I'm distantly related to his best friend."

Sports / Re: Aubameyang Tests Positive To COVID-19, 4 Days To Their First AFCON Game by ogbiwa: 2:48pm On Jan 07, 2022
MPESA:

Getting myself education on something that Arteta himself has refused to mentioned what Aub did , Arteta only manage Aub in less than 3 years , go check what Tuchel and Klopp said about Aub personality for you jump into your emotional conclusion...

P.s
Aub took permission to go to France to see his mom or bring her back to London bla blah
Aub went to France to his mom whom weren't feeling well and took extra day because he want to get a tattoo bla blah blah
Aub went to France came back late blah blah blah
Aub always come to training late blah blah blah

P.s
Because of late coming you stripes him captaincy and also freez him out of the club activities including training alone...
How does this make sense to you.

Oh because he signed a mega deal he should kill himself when things are not working well with him. NONSENSICAL NONSENSE.

Seems you have an issue with the concept of discipline. PS any society that will make progress is the society that makes up it's mind not to tolerate indiscipline in all it's forms. The western world you admire today, they got there because they decided on a number of rules and regulations and enforced it that no one will break it. Nigeria is lawless because of gross indiscipline and no one can hold anyone to account. So maybe you think Arteta is a Nigerian coach. No he's not. Arsenal is a club where people invested billions of pounds and the people at that level know that, for the business to keep prospering, indiscipline of the slightest cannot be tolerated. Because they know the principles that got them to that level. And for that they would rather freeze out their own club captain than allow indiscipline to go unpunished. You think Arsenal board won't put pressure on Arteta all these while to restore Aubameyang if they didn't think that what he did was in the general interest of the club and their investment? So, if you want to keep playing in the low waters, keep making excuses for indiscipline and saying is it not "just?". But if you must come up higher, then you must be ready to hold yourself to a higher set of principles
Sports / Aubameyang Tests Positive To COVID-19, 4 Days To Their First AFCON Game by ogbiwa: 8:13pm On Jan 06, 2022
Gabon captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has tested positive for Covid-19 just four days before his country's first game at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Aubameyang and Nice midfielder Mario Lemina returned positive lateral flow tests on arrival at Yaounde's airport in Cameroon.

Coach Anicet Yala also tested positive.

Head coach Patrice Neveu told AFP that the trio, who are all asymptomatic, are isolating in their hotel rooms and awaiting results of PCR tests.

Gabon play their opening Group C match against Comoros on Monday, with their second group game against Ghana on Friday, 14 January.

Arsenal striker Aubameyang, 32, was dropped by the Gunners and stripped of the club's captaincy last month for disciplinary reasons.

Hosts Cameroon play in the first game of the Nations Cup against Burkina Faso on Sunday (16:00 GMT).

Sports / Emmanuel Dennis Pulls Out Of Nigeria's AFCON Squad After Pressure From Watford by ogbiwa: 7:45am On Jan 01, 2022
Watford's Emmanuel Dennis and fellow striker Victor Osimhen have both dropped out of Nigeria's squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Watford have reportedly refused to release Dennis, who has scored eight Premier League goals this season.

A Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) statement said Dennis had been excused because Watford were "baring fangs".

Osimhen has been ruled out following a positive Covid-19 test and is still recovering from facial fractures.

The injury in November was expected to rule the Napoli frontman, 23, out of the tournament, which starts on 9 January in Cameroon.

Dennis, 24, will now be available for Watford's league games against fellow strugglers Newcastle and Norwich, as well as their FA Cup third round tie at Leicester City on 8 January.

Watford manager Claudio Ranieri said: "I knew the board and Nigerian board were speaking. I accept every decision they find and that for me is finished."

Asked whether the decision for Dennis to remain with his club disrespected Afcon, Ranieri added: "No. They have a lot of players and then they changed the managers and everything. We were ready to give over the players, they didn't do it. The two boards spoke and for me it is OK.

"Of course he wanted to go to play but he also wanted to help Watford."

Dennis and Osimhen have been replaced by Sparta Prague striker Peter Olayinka and Olympiakos forward Henry Onyekuru, while the Super Eagles have also been forced to make two changes in defence.

Rangers defender Leon Balogun and Cyprus-based Abdullahi Shehu have both been replaced by West Brom's Semi Ajayi and Tyronne Ebuehi of Italian Serie A side Venezia.

Super Eagles hit by Covid and administrative issues
Dennis was not part of Nigeria's initial 37-man provisional squad submitted by former coach Gernot Rohr, but added to the 40-man party in December.

His inclusion in the final squad led to Watford manager Claudio Ranieri revealing the club could refuse to release him.

Ranieri said Nigeria missed a deadline to advise the Premier League club that the forward was being considered for selection.

BBC Sport Africa understands the NFF conceded it may have left it late and is now in a weakened position to request Dennis to travel.

"In-form rapid raider Emmanuel Dennis, whose English Premiership club is baring fangs, has been excused to provide room for Czech Republic-based forward Peter Olayinka," Nigeria's official account said on Instagram.

Despite being keen to travel to Cameroon for the continental showpiece, Osimhen officially informed interim coach Augustine Eguavoen about his decision to withdraw on Thursday.

His latest coronavirus problem and Napoli's reluctance to release him for the tournament led to the player sending an official letter.

"He just felt he was not in the right of mind, physically and psychologically, to play for Nigeria with all that is going on right now," a leading NFF official told BBC Sport Africa.

The three-time African champions, who have appointed Portuguese Jose Peseiro as their permanent coach, are in Group D along with Egypt, Guinea-Bissau and Sudan.

They open their campaign against the Pharaohs in Garoua on 11 January.

Sports / Media Coverage Is Disrespectful To AFCON - Ian Wright by ogbiwa: 4:42pm On Dec 30, 2021
The Africa Cup of Nations is being "disrespected" by some negative media coverage, says former England and Arsenal striker Ian Wright.

The 24-team competition begins on 9 January and will feature a host of Premier League and European stars.

Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira is among those to also call for the tournament to be given more respect.

"Is there ever a tournament more disrespected than the Africa Cup of Nations?" Wright said on Instagram.

On the media coverage around Afcon he claimed: "There is no greater honour than representing your country. The coverage is completely tinged with racism.

"We played our Euros across 10 countries in the middle of a pandemic and there's no issue at all. But Cameroon, a single country hosting a tournament, is a problem.

"There are players getting asked if they will be honouring the call-ups to their national teams. Imagine if that was an England player representing the Three Lions. Can you imagine the furore?"

Ajax's Ivory Coast striker Sebastien Haller said the suggestion a player would want to miss the tournament to play for their club "shows the disrespect for Africa".

He told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf: "Would this [question] ever have been asked to a European player towards a European Championship?

"Of course I will go to represent Ivory Coast. That is the highest honour."

However, the 27-year-old said having to miss club games "is very frustrating". Haller added: "I hate having to choose between my country and my club."

Although several Premier League clubs will be without key players in January - including Crystal Palace who are set to lose Cheikhou Kouyate, Wilfried Zaha and Jordan Ayew - Eagles boss Vieira echoed Haller's sentiments.

"I respect and understand the passion and the importance to players to go and represent their country so I will never stop any player going to play the Africa Cup of Nations," said Vieira, a World Cup and European Championship winner as a player with France.

"I believe that competition needs to be more respected - because this competition is as important as the European Championships."

Title hopefuls Liverpool face significant absences, with the Premier League's leading scorer Mohamed Salah, fellow forward Sadio Mane and midfielder Naby Keita set to take part in the tournament.

Leaders Manchester City will lose Riyad Mahrez, while second-placed Chelsea will be without goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and West Ham's Said Benrahma will be with Algeria.

Leeds United, Newcastle United, Norwich City and Tottenham are the only Premier League clubs not losing any players for the tournament.

Players are allowed to play for their clubs until 3 January before leaving for the Africa Cup of Nations after Fifa rules stating clubs must release players by 27 December was changed "in the spirit of goodwill and solidarity".

"Loads of the best players in Europe right now are African," said Wright.

"If we love them at club level why can't we love them at international level like their counterparts across the globe? Why is this tournament constantly getting so much flak?

"I have got to give a shout out to the players like Sebastien Haller who are taking a stand against the media backlash, plus Patrick Vieira for coming out and speaking about this.

"This is why it is important to have a black manager who can let people understand where his roots are and how important this tournament is for African people.

"I want to wish Cameroon every success in hosting this tournament and and all the very best to the players and the fans."

Sports / Napoli's Lawyer Threatens To Sue Osimhen If He Travels To AFCON With Nigeria by ogbiwa: 4:06pm On Dec 23, 2021
Recuperating Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, may miss the fast-approaching Africa Cup of Nations if a report from Italy is anything to go by.

Napoli lawyer, Mattia Grassani, according to report, warns clubs could sue to stop their players participating in the Africa Cup of Nations.

“Considering the epidemiological situation, there could be legal action, because this tournament takes away valuable resources from the clubs,” Napoli lawyer Grassani told CalcioNapoli24.

“It is a particular historic moment, so it would be different if we felt 99 percent confident of the situation. The clubs invested a lot of money signing players like Victor Osimhen, so if he were to become infected, that’d be tough to deal with.

“The first step would be legal action to prevent the call-up, then if there were concrete elements to sue because the health standards are not the same as in European competitions, then there could be more appeals to gain an exemption for Europe-based players.”

Cameroon has only five per cent of the population vaccinated, there are fears this could turn into a super-spreader event for the continent and the entire football world.

Clubs are increasingly concerned at the idea of letting their players participate in the competition, citing health worries.

Sports / AFCON Will Hold Next Month And I'll Be There With My Family- CAF President by ogbiwa: 11:09am On Dec 22, 2021
The president of the Confederation of African Football (Caf), Patrice Motsepe, has reiterated that the delayed Africa Cup of Nations will go ahead as planned.

Motsepe was speaking with less than three weeks until the tournament kicks off as he visited Yaounde's Olembe Stadium, which will host the opening match on 9 January.

His comments came as speculation persists that the finals will be delayed further or even cancelled because of the latest problems with the global Covid-19 pandemic.

"I will be in Cameroon on 7 January with my wife and kids to witness this incredible competition," Motsepe insisted on Monday.

"You can see that there's a huge commitment and a focus to make sure that there's good progress.

"We are going to host with the people of Cameroon an exceptional tournament. It will be the most successful Afcon. We are ready to show the world the best of African football and African hospitality.

"This tournament is important for the people of Africa and I'm so proud and so excited with the work done."

Also on Monday, Samuel Eto'o, who was elected president of Cameroon's FA earlier this month, hit out at the constant reports placing the competition in doubt, many of which come from Europe.

The former Barcelona star highlighted the fact that the European Championship took place earlier this year as the pandemic continued to rage across the continent.

"If the Euros took place in the middle of the pandemic, with full stadiums in several cities in Europe and there was no problem, why wouldn't Afcon be played in Cameroon?" he told French station Canal+.

"Or are you trying to say that like we've always been treated, we Africans aren't worth anything so we have to put up with it?

"I don't see why Afcon wouldn't take place. The Cameroon FA that I represent will defend hosting this competition to the end."

Like former African Footballer of the Year Eto'o, Motsepe, 59, also seemed surprised by the continued rumours surrounding the 24-team finals.

"We have to believe in our people," the Caf boss said. "We have to stop being the ones that lack confidence and are always expressing negative views of our people.

"All over the world there are competitions with challenges but we have to be more optimistic because sometimes we are over critical of ourselves.

"If we're not going to have confidence in what we do, who's going to have confidence in us?

"This is the generation where Africans must believe in Africans. We can host a football competition that's as good as you can see in Europe and the world."

Cameroon had been slated to host the 2019 Nations Cup, but the country was stripped of hosting rights in November 2018 with Caf citing delays in the country's preparation for the tournament.
