Politics / 2019: Nobody Can Stop Wike’s Re-election –PDP by Ogbobesinachi(m): 11:14am On May 16, 2018
Tony John, Port Harcourt

Some stalwarts of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its pro-group, Grassroots Development Initiative (GDI), have declared that nobody or security forces can stop the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, from completing his second term in office.

They spoke yesterday, at the official reception of hundreds of alleged All Progressives Congress ( APC) supporters, who defected to the PDP in Rumuola, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.

The PDP chieftains also said GDI has endorsed Wike to continue his developmental works and vowed to mobilise supporters from across the 23 local government areas of the state to ensure his victory at the poll.

Speaking on behalf of the 23 PDP chairmanship candidates for the June 16 local government election, Samuel Nwanosike said PDP and GDI have decided to work tirelessly for the success of Wike’s re-election.
Nwanosike, who is the national publicity secretary of GDI and immediate past publicity secretary of PDP in the state, said Wike should be allowed to complete his eight years in office.

“Wike has created an enabling environment for effective grassroots participation in politics by fixing a date for the local government election.

“Our leader, Wike, has redefined the PDP. With the ongoing development projects in the 23 councils, Wike has shown he has managed our resources well.

“No one can stop him from completing the good work God has called him to do in the state. We will support his second tenure. Wike will sweep all the votes in the 23 councils and their wards,” he said.
The PDP chieftain condemned the interference of the 2015 general election in the state by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), allegedly led by its Commander, Akin Fakorede.

He said: “One million Fakorede and all the people he is training in the North and other parts of the country, to rig elections in Rivers in 2019 cannot’s Wike re-election because we, the grassroots people, have resolved to defend democracy in the state.

“We have got our permanent voter’s cards (PVCs) ready, to vote out those who have not done anything for us, the people of Rivers State. We will vote out the Federal Government,” he said.

Also, a member of the House of Representatives, Okechukwu Chindah, has charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be transparent and conduct a free, fair and credible elections in 2019.
Chindah said any attempt to rig Rivers election in 2019, by INEC and security agencies, would be resisted, stressing that their mandate is to work for Wike and PDP’s victory in 2019.

Meanwhile, the governor has assured that Mile 1 Market in Port Harcourt, currently under construction, will be completed by December.

Speaking after inspection of the project yesterday, Wike said: “We are putting in place a befitting market for traders in the area. Recall that the immediate past administration promised to construct this market, but failed the people.

“The contractor said the market will be completed in September, but, we are willing to allow him till December to enable them deliver a quality market.”
Culture / Ooni Of Ife Reveals Why Youths Cannot Become Leaders In Nigeria by Ogbobesinachi(m): 9:09am On May 16, 2018
he Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has said that Nigerian youths are denied leadership opportunities because they are not captured in the nation’s constitution.

The monarch stated this while conferring an award on the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Danbatta in Abuja.

“The youth of this country are neglected by the leaders because they were not factored in the constitution. It is left for them to hold that leadership mantle and for them to hold that sense of leadership.

“Most of the leaders of today became leaders in their 30s. The youth of this country own this country because 60% of the population is under the age of 30 and 75% is under the age of 40, and the remaining 25% is others.

“So, the youths (75%) own the country. The youths need to come together and come up with initiatives, hold one another, pull one another up, walk towards the betterment of the future. Don’t think you are too young. The problem with Nigerian leaders is that they do not give Nigerian youths 100 percent independence to run their initiatives.

“It is about time for every youth to wake up from slumber .You are to tell the nation what should be done, not the other way round, not the minority telling you what to be done. The future is bright for you, work towards how to better this country.

“Opportunities are what can bring wealth, not money. Think outside the box and don’t wait for anybody, rise up to the occasion of being independent. It is about time for us to see the good side of this country. I am here to encourage you that you are all important,” the Ooni said.
Politics / Buhari Compares Current State Of Economy With Jonathan Era by Ogbobesinachi(m): 9:03am On May 16, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari says the nation’s economy is steadily improving.

He urged Nigerians to remain optimistic as the future of the country is bright.

A statement Tuesday evening by presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, said Buhari spoke Monday night at a State dinner held in his honour by the Government of Jigawa State.

Buhari, according the release, compared the current state of economy with what obtained under the Goodluck Jonathan government, saying that things were now better.

“The future is bright for Nigeria, as the economy has taken a turn for the better, our foreign reserves are almost twice the level we met, boosting investor confidence and stabilising the Naira, and inflation has declined consecutively for more than a year.

“The Federal government released over N1 trillion for capital projects in 2016 and N1.5 trillion in 2017, figures that are unprecedented in Nigeria’s history,” the President said.

Buhari listed the ‘Shuwarin overpass’ and ‘Dutse-Shuwarin-Kiyawa’ portion of the Kano – Maiduguri expressway as well as the ‘Dutse-Laraba highway extension as part of areas in which Jigawa State has benefited from the federal government’s commitment to infrastructural rejuvenation.

The President commended Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State for emulating his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development despite severely limited resources available to the State.

Buhari also lauded the State government for subscribing to the Federal government’s renewable energy master plan by having the largest solar power investment portfolio in the country — the 330 megawatts joint solar power development station situated in Gwiwa Local Government of the State.

Commending the success of the federal government’s Social Intervention Programme in Jigawa State, the President urged states that are yet to access the over N500 billion budgeted for the scheme due to “its stringent eligibility guidelines” to fully take advantage of the programme.
Politics / Ekiti Guber: APC Vows To Reclaim Mandate PDP ‘stole’ In 2014 by Ogbobesinachi(m): 8:54am On May 16, 2018
The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday vowed to reclaim its “stolen mandate” in Ekiti.

The party said this when the Amb. Fati Balla-chaired Ekiti State Governorship Primary Election Appeal Committee submitted its report to the Party’s national leadership.

The panel declared that no petition was received on the Primary Election conducted in the Ekiti State Capital, Ado-Ekiti last Saturday.

APC National Organising Secretary, Sen. Osita Izunaso received the report on behalf of the National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun at the Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

Balla said the three-member Appeal Committee, which was inaugurated on May 2, sat for three days after last Saturday’s Primary Election. The appeal committee include: Capt. Bala Jibrin (Secretary) and Mrs. Lilian Obenwa.

“In the three days that we (committee) have sat, we have not received a single petition, either in form of writing, telephone call or a text message, which means there has been no petition after the Primary Election in Ekiti State.

“We have come before you this afternoon to submit a report. Since there is no petition from EkitiState, therefore the committee has wound up this afternoon.” The Chairman of the Appeal Committee stated.

Speaking after receiving the Appeal Committee report, Izunaso thanked the committee for undertaking the assignment on behalf of the Party.

Izunaso said all efforts were currently geared towards winning the July 14 Ekiti Governorship Election. He disclosed that the Party’s National Campaign Committee for the Ekiti Governorship Election will soon be set up.

He charged voters in Ekiti State to come out enmasse to reclaim their stolen mandate by voting for the Party’s Governorship candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, come July.

Izunaso: “We are glad that you have finished your assignment after sitting for three days and there is no petition from any aspirant, both orally and in writing. We are also glad that the Ekiti Primary Election has taken place and that the aspirants are working together to ensure that we win the governorship election in Ekiti state.

“The most important thing to us in the APC is victory in the July election in Ekiti state. For us in the APC, whenever there is a Primary Election, it is a family affair. And whenever we finish our Primary Elections, and aspirants and stakeholders come together to work as a team, it gladdens our heart as a Party.

“I am aware that very soon we will set up the National Campaign Committee for Ekiti state and also have another meeting with the aspirants to properly integrate them into what we are doing because ultimately, victory is our end result and we believe that by the special Grace of God, the people of Ekiti will regain the mandate that they gave to APC four years ago, that was stolen. This is another opportunity for Ekiti people to regain that mandate. And this time around, it will no longer be stolen by anybody.

“Once Ekiti people come out enmasse and vote for the APC, we will defend our result and ensure that we reclaim what truly belong to us. Right now, it is only Ekiti State in the South West that is not in the APC fold. That shows that South West is APC and we should as much as possible try to encourage our voters in Ekiti state to come out enmasse and vote for our Party.”
