Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka today told President Buhari that honroing late Chief MKO Abiola and praising his ”tormentor in chief” was quite confusing.

Prof. Soyinka spoke at the Presidential Villa during the conferment of posthumous award of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) on the presumed winner of the June 12 presidential election, the Late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola.

Though the Nobel Laureate did not mention any name, his words pointed to the late dictator, Gen. Sani Abacha who President Buhari had praised in recent times. Speaking at the event, Soyinka said

“I would like to make a request Mr President that you stop creating confusion in the minds of Nigerians. Stop confusing Nigerians. It is not possible to honor MKO Abiola in one breathe and and then admire his tormentor in another breath. Loyalty is all very well but that loyalty can become perverse if that loyalty is retained to an individual who if he were alive today, would be before the international court of crimes against humanity, one who broke the laws of Nigeria, committed crimes humanity. It is confusing if professional loyalty is carried so far.

We had a private conversation sometime ago and remember that one of the things I mentioned to you was this, You are fighting corruption, how come it that a notorious corrupt ruler is honored by one of the most important avenues in the FCT. The answer you gave to me was not too satisfactory but I let it pass. Today perhaps is also a day for us to inaugurate our hall of shame to future generations” he said

Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, says any government that watches its poeple get killed everyday without working to stop such a trend, is an irresponsible government. Amechi said this at an APC rally in Rivers state over the weekend.

''Every government has a responsibility to protect lives and property. The reason there is a government is because the people are alive. If a person dies there will be no government. Any government that watches its people killed every day is an irresponsible government. Governor Wike watches his people killed every day. I met a woman yesterday whose husband was killed in front of her with her son watching. It could have been any of you. I can assure you today that this government of Wike has failed.

When I was your governor, you slept and I kept awake. As governor, I chased away criminals to their holes. I know that the reason they are into crime was because they had no money for them. I knew that for you to stop a man from crime you need to provide an alternative means of livelihood. And to do that, I started building infrastructures. I built schools, hospitals and health centres. A lot of people were employed in each of the schools and health facilities I built.” he said

Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has said former President Olusegun Obasanjo should not raise alarm but should come forward and clear his name.



Fayose was reacting to the former President’s allegations that the Federal Government is plotting to silence him, using false witnesses to indict and possibly arrest him.

“There is no need to raise alarm. Obasanjo at a time said President Buhari is best for Nigeria. So now, President Buhari is telling the whole world that Obasanjo stole money. Obasanjo should go and clear his name,” he said.

Fayose claimed that Obasanjo is his book, ‘My Watch’, said he preferred to be jailed by President Buhari instead of being jailed by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

“Since Obasanjo himself said he preferred to be jailed by Buhari and worked for his enthronement, the President can hasten his arrest and imprisonment. What is he afraid of?”

Fayose who spoke with journalists in Ado Ekiti on Saturday added that former President Obasanjo started the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and therefore should not be afraid of being probed over alleged funds mismanagement.

Former bread seller turned model Olajumoke Orisaguna has come under intense heat over a homophobic comment she made in a video posted on her YouTube page.Olajumoke, in the video, had slammed the LGBT community in the country saying they should be dealt with as she can not understand why they would people of the same sex would want to be intimate with each other.

The video, of course, got several reactions to include Nigerian/Ghanaian transgender makeup artiste Ceso Golden, who took her time to slam Olajumoke.

A young man in Akwa Ibom has been nabbed for killing his mother. The said man reportedly beat his mother to death in Nsit Ubium community of Akwa Ibom State.

upon his arrest, the suspect confessed saying a Prophet revealed to him that his mother was a witch.

He continued saying his mum was behind all the difficulty he has experienced in life.

General Overseer of Christian Central Chapel International, Bishop Emma Gospel Isong has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to confess his sins to Nigerians and pray for forgiveness if he wants to win his second terms bid in the 2019 presidential election.

Isong stated that the President has committed so many sins against Nigerians but admitted that to seek a second term in office was Buhari’s constitutional right.

The cleric however maintained that there are many hurdles for the President to cross, including the confession of sins to Nigerians.

Bishop Isong, who was spoke with DAILY POST in a telephone interview said, stated that Buhari will be taking Nigerians for a ride if between now and May 2019, he cannot convince citizens that he is risking his life and risking the chances of his party to remain in power.

According to him, “But if Mr President sit back and look at his record and be honest to himself and come out, it is not late to confess, the Bible says whoever confesses his sins shall be forgiven, if Mr President can come back and confess and say 90 per cent of security chiefs are Fulanis.

“If he can come back and say the economy is hitting the bottom rock, people are losing jobs, like in our churches, people are packing out to their villages, they are leaving town, they are resigning, if Mr President can come out and confess that I have not been fair to South-South, I have not been fair to South-East.

“Even in the Middle Belt, in terms of Taraba state, Nassarawa state and of course Benue state, I have not come out with strong government policy to stop Fulani herdsmen from killing innocent Nigerians, if Mr President can come out and confess and repent of course, I will cast my vote for him to be President for second term” he stated.

Bishop Isong said that if President Buhari cannot do this, then he is taking his party as well as its electoral chances for granted, he is making a mockery of democracy and risking his name and integrity which he had built for more than 40 years.

“President Jonathan did not perform this badly after his first term, he lost the election and if he want to go by that record, Buhari government is worse than Jonathan and therefore he cannot be given second term chance if Nigerians’ vote is to be counted,” he stressed.

Speaking further, the cleric stated that declaring intention to re-contest does not automatically amount to winning the elections all things being equal and votes count.

“Constitutionally, the President has the right to declare for second term because of the Nigerian Constitution, he is entitled to two terms, it is his right to re-contest as President of Nigeria.

“He is not in breach of the constitution. The President himself has confessed and his party members from Tinibu to governors of APC have said that in the cardinal areas of Mr President’s first term promises, they have not leave up to expectations.

“They are two things here either Mr President re-contests and failed like former President Jonathan failed when he re-contested because of poor performance. By re-contesting he is asking Nigerians to give him second chance to correct his failures of first term and that will be left in the court of public opinion through the voters’ cards God has given to Nigerians to cast the ballot in 2019.”

Isong continued, “I am not speaking as the National Publicity Secretary of PFN but speaking as Bishop Dr Emma Isong. I always hold one view about Mr President re-contesting, like I said, he has a constitutional right to re-contest but if Mr President’s performance can be enhance this last one year, to improve his record, improve his scored card, Nigerians can easily be convinced, we change our minds easily, they can vote for Mr President for second term.

“If Mr President will not improve on security, embarking on ethnic cleansing, security of Nigeria life and property, on economic which has hit the bottom rock in the past 40 years in Nigeria, if Mr President cannot put food on the table of Nigerians and cannot improve anything in the last one year of his first term, then our votes for him in his second term would be like building a house on the sand and when the winds, rains and flood comes, it blows it off.

“And it will be foolish to give him a second chance, if he cannot use the last one year to convince us he can do it, there is nothing to be sentimental about even if he was my senior brother or my father I will not support that.”

Victor Kolade, an All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship aspirant in Ekiti State has described the state Governor, Ayodele Fayose as the most wasteful governor in the history of the state.

Kolade said Fayose’s stomach infrastructure was nothing but a fraud, adding that people are still hungry in the state.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, on Wednesday, Kolade stated that Fayose was attempting to build “a bridge that leads to nowhere.”

Kolade said, “Ekiti state was created in October 1996, but one thing that is certain is that there is no tangible development. You cannot see an improvement.

“Anybody who visited the state when it was created and now, would agree with me that there is no substantial development.

“The infrastructure that the governor is talking about is a farce. What he is talking about stomach infrastructure is nothing but a fraud. One thing I have always told my audience is that the human capital in Ekiti is not developed.

“The sitting governor has done a bridge and has not completed it. As of today, he has spent N20 billion and has not completed it. He keeps on reviewing the cost.

“If you want to go the Ghadaffi way and you divide this money by the 2.5 million people in Ekiti, each of us would be entitled to about N4 million.

“Now, if you take N1.6 billion for instance and give N100 million to each of the 16 local governments and then form co-operatives, you then ask people to access the loans, you would have created more millionaires in the state.

“The bridge is so long that no one will even use it except few people travelling very far because underneath it, there are so many easy outlets that motorists can use.

“The three problems we have are; government is the only employer of labour. There are no factories. If you do not work with the government, you work in the hotel, filling station, the saw mill or you are an ‘Okada’ rider. It is mostly a civil service state.

“If we had successive governments and they were not able to discern that this burden should be taken off the shoulders of government, then what are we talking about? Successive governments in Ekiti state have failed.

“The second problem we have is hunger. We farm so much but so well we are hungry. It is like 90 percent of everybody in the state is a farmer even while doing government work, but hunger is still prevalent in the land.

“You remember how someone was cooking, went inside in the house and by the time she came out, the food had been stolen from the fire. It happened in Ekiti state.

“It is like this because there is no government interference in farming. Farmers till the ground hopelessly. They farm on lands that have been farmed consistently by several generations earlier on.

“Thirdly, the behavioural attitude of an average Ekiti person is going down the drain. Most of the youths now take to drugs. The social order in Ekiti is bad. There is so much to be done”.

The Federal Government says it will not be intimidated by any person(s) or group(s) to stop revealing the names of those who allegedly looted the nation’s treasury.

Minister of Information, Mr Lai Mohammed, said this in Kwara State during a condolence visit to the state government over the recent bank robbery in Offa.

He told reporters in the state on Sunday that the government would release another batch of alleged looters’ list soon and was not bothered by any litigation threat whatsoever.

“We want to make it clear that no amount of intimidation from any side will prevent the government from releasing the next batch of looters’ list,” Mohammed stated.

“Honestly, what you have seen so far is the tip of the iceberg. When the next list comes out, you will see that many people that you did not suspect also partook in this national looting,” he added.

The minister, however, advised those mentioned on the previous lists and criticising the government to re-examine themselves, saying the government was very confident of the evidence it has before publishing the lists.

The previous lists of alleged looters published on March 30 and April 1 respectively had sparked criticism among Nigerians, as well as blame games between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In the first list, the PDP National Chairman, Mr Uche Secondus, was alleged to have received the sum of N200million from the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) on February 19, 2015.

Secondus, who has since denied the allegation, demanded a retraction of the list, a public apology, and the sum of N1.5billion as compensation.

He had also threatened to sue Mohammed if his demands were not met before a stipulated period of time.

Having failed to meet the demand, the PDP National Chairman made good his threat on Friday last week and filed a suit at the Port Harcourt High Court in Rivers State against the minister for defamation of character.

In his reaction, Mohammed maintained that he was not disturbed by the suit and that no amount of threat would prevent the government from releasing more names of alleged looters.

According to him, “Courts are for the accused and the accuser; for the rich and for the poor; for the government and for the people. So, anybody saying he’s going to court, I don’t think that should really frighten anybody.”

The minister further stressed the need to understand the context from which the alleged looters’ list was released.

He said it was primarily because Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was challenged by the PDP over the statement he made that a few days to handover in 2015, about N100billion was allegedly shared by members of the opposition party.

Cee-c revealed that Bambam was madly in love with Teddy because of his physical appearance.

The two housemates were engaged in a chat about the ex-housemates who exited the house last weekend.

Bambam and Teddy A were lovers in the Big Brother Naija house. They confessed their love for each to other housemates and on national television.

Their partnership was also described by other housemates as real.

Talking about the pair, Khloe said their relationship will continue outside the show for the fact that, “If God be for them, let’s respect it that way.” But Cee-c, cutting in, asked, “You mean it will work?

Khloe explained, “The reason I said it would work is that Bambam can tolerate a lot. She can tolerate a lot.”

Cee-c, however insisted that so many things Bambam tolerate was “because they were in the house, if not, ‘she for don change am for am.”

Khloe maintained that, “It would work.”

Cee-c further revealed that Bambam was “madly in love with Teddy A’s body, ” insisting she had told her about it before.

The drama ensued as a result of a viral video of popular Pastor, Funke Adejuwon, calling him a fool,while disapproving his stand on tithe payment.

Pastor Funke Adejuwon was heard saying in the video;

”Don’t listen to any idiot telling you hat to do with your money on the internet. I mean that statement idiot because anybody that is against the scriptures is a fool, that is what the bible says. Who told you not to pay tithe and who told you to pay. Put the bothe of them on a scale and weigh them and chose who to follow. Somebody is telling you not to pay tithe. What right has he got to tell you not to determine how you spend your money?”

In a series of video clips, Daddy freeze insulted Pastor.Mrs Funke Adejuwon on her Instagram page in response to her message.

Freeze wrote:

The Arewa Pastors Non-denominational Initiative for Peace in Nigeria has vowed to expose the pastors working against President Muhammadu Buhari.

John Richard, leader of the group said this when he led a delegation to the presidential villa in Abuja on Thursday.

He said among members of the group were archbishops and bishops from the 19 northern states, over 45,000 registered pastors, and millions of followers.

Richard said the president has done well but is being sabotaged by the opposition.

“We wish to thank His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari for granting us audience amidst your heavy-duty national and international responsibilities. We congratulate you and ourselves and give all the thanks to the Almighty God for the good health he has restored to you,” Richard said.

“We congratulated ourselves also because during your health challenge we knowing you to be the Godsent timely leader to rescue and restore Nigeria back to her pride, fasted and prayed with over one thousand archbishops, bishops, pastors and evangelist for God to show you mercy and heal you.

“Your Excellency, we the 19 northern states pastors came together in unity to speak with one voice to crusade for peace, reconciliation and national unity of our great country Nigeria which you have already started.

“We will want his excellency to link us with the relevant security agencies in our crusade for peace and fight against hate speeches and those dark walls that separate us as we will network with our counterpart from the east and west to hand over those of our colleagues being used by the enemies of our togetherness to inject confusion and false stories into the public space resulting to the destabilisation of peaceful co-existence we were enjoying in the country.

Richard said his group was satisfied with the performance of the president, urging the public to disregard the reports that the president has the plan to Islamise the country.

“We acknowledge the good leadership you are rending to Nigerians in the area of restoring the economy, boom in the agricultural sector, tackling of insecurity, fighting corruption and We believe in your leadership and we are here to let you know that we are fully standing by you and your government to ensure that you succeed and peace is restored to every and corner of the country,” he said.

“And to counter those deceiving and poisoning Nigerians with fake news to destroy your good intentions for the country especially those giving the impression that you are against Christians and some ethnic groups in Nigeria which is a big lie for instance: Some pastors using places of worship to preach hate. People using church to preach violence. (If you preach war and war broke out who will go to church for worship). The Islamisation agenda. We believed that the Mr. President has no lslamization agenda in Nigeria.

“This is just an opposition propaganda, about the killings around the country, we observed that it is not only Christian that are the victims, both Muslims and Christians are affected, and the government is doing everything possible to solve the problem. What we need to do is to come together as a people to support our government in other to bring to an end to this circle of violence and we assure.”

He also asked Buhari to support the group for a “peace and unity national delegate prayer congress” scheduled for the Eagle Square, Abuja on April 26, 2018.

Big Brother Housemate, Tobi Bakre, has said he enjoys bold ladies who reach out to men.

Tobi said this while conversing with Alex, Miracle and Anto in the garden. He said he was out for a drink when a lady slipped her card into his pocket, motioning him to call her.

“This lady who was obviously hanging out with her friends reached out to me by putting her card in my pocket.

“She was yo, I am hanging with my friends but will like you to reach out.”

This was few minutes before he travelled to South Africa for the Big Brother Naija show.

Tobi however, promised to reach out to the lady.

Reacting to the incident, Miracle said, “I like it when ladies reach out. It shows that they are bold.”

Miracle also gave his own account of a lady who stalked him in a mall.

Alex and Anto, obviously enjoying the conversation grinned in laughter.

Meanwhile, Tobi also disclosed that his mum was still waiting for him to bring home a wife. He talked of a particular lady he refused to tie the knot with.

“Her name is Omotunde,” Tobi said. “I should have gotten married to her but I didn’t see the process through. Everybody knows about this in the family, even her sister as well.”

Tobi quickly made a shoutout to Omotunde, saying he wished things went the way it should have.

Anto, however was quick to warn him that people outside are crazy.

“They sent me the handle of the person Lolu was involved with. They would have googled this lady right now, even if it were as little as a nickname,” She said.

Tobi had earlier on told Alex that he hated being pressured into a relationship.

“I am still young and hustling,” said Tobi.

“Some days I get money, and other days I don’t. Sometimes I don’t just want to converse with anybody.”

He told Alex that this behaviour of his made him lose very good-natured ladies like Bukky, his friend before he entered into the house.

Godknows Igali, former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Power and Water Resources, has reacted to the list of alleged looters released by the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a statement on Monday, Igali condemned Minister of information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, for accusing him of stealing various sums from government treasury.

He said: “On account of my background, I am normally taciturn. But cannot keep silent against such weighty unfounded allegation. My name was smuggled to the list, against a whooping ‘loot’ of N7Billion.

“For the avoidance of doubt, this is totally false; as no amount whatsoever has been recovered from me or traced to me. Indeed, N7billion recovered from which accounts, which banks and when?

“My life has been an open book of distinguished Public Service in Diplomatic Service, Scholarship and Administration. In all places were I had served, the records are there for all to see.

“I continue to stand tall and remain undaunted. I am of modest background and very simple lifestyle. I am extremely contented and awesomely grateful to God.

“I should lament, that this is the third time this government has hit the headlines, with such negative news about me, since 2016.

“Coincidentally, all the three occasions were during festive periods. Most prominent is the tale of 45 SUVs supposedly found in my compound, which everyone now knows was a fabrication and fake news.

“It is now common knowledge that the vehicles in question were left-overs from the erstwhile Jonathan-Sambo Campaign bought with a bank loan and confiscated from the premises of a known business concern that is not connected whatsoever with me. The loan is now being recovered forcefully and perhaps being termed a ‘loot’.

“With President Goodluck Jonathan’s loss of the election and peaceful exit from office in 2015, I knew that some of us close to him, especially me, will suffer and carry lots of crosses. So they have continued to pursue without relenting.

“Yes, some of us are victims and scapegoats. It’s all obscene, unfair and ungodly! But then, these and many more afflictions will come like floods and pass. There is nothing new under the sun. So it is well, indeed!”

The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has said that the Senate has developed two draft bills for legislation to tackle the menace of drug abuse across the country.

The SP said that this was an outcome of the roundtable put in place by him in December last year in Kano on the rising drug abuse in the country.

The proposed bills are: National Drug Control Bill and National Mental Health Bill.

A statement by the Media Office of the President of the Senate said the Drug Control Bill seeks to clarify the mandate and strengthen the capacity of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to eradicate the illicit production, and trafficking of controlled substances.

“It also seeks to establish a central mechanism to facilitate collaboration among law enforcement, regulatory and public health authorities in line with the National Drug Control Policy.

“The Bill further focuses on proactive law enforcement and regulatory measures towards the eradication of the illicit importation, production and trafficking of controlled substances.”

The statement further said the bill sought to criminalise the diversion, distribution or otherwise dispensing of controlled substances without a prescription or license.

On mental health bill, the statement noted that, in recognition of the fact that psychosocial issues are the key drivers for the abuse of psychoactive substance, the bill was crafted to ensure that standard facilities were available in every state to provide mental health and substance abuse services.

The proposed law guarantees the protection of the rights of people with mental illness and stipulates that mental health practitioners and facilities no longer engage in practices that are harmful to people with mental health and substance use disorders.

In recognising the low number of mental health practitioners in the country with the ratio of practitioners at one psychiatrist to 1.6 million people, the draft law makes provision for quality mental health and substance abuse services available for women and adolescents, who are an underserved segment of the population.

Nigeria’s Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts, Senator Shehu Sani has reacted to the Peoples Democratic Party’s plea for forgiveness.

Using a Bible reference, the lawmaker said the opposition party deserved the forgiveness.

He stated that some members of the the PDP who were now withing the fold of the All Progressives Congress, APC, also sinned.

The PDP had on Monday apologized to Nigerians for the “mistakes” it made during its 16 years of governance.

The apology, which has generated controversies, came through PDP’s National Chairman, Uche Secondus.

He had said, “We made mistakes. On behalf of my colleagues and members of this party, I apologise to Nigerians.”

A court has pronounced judgement on the 20-year-old student who had been acting as an impostor of Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.



Sultan Bello had run an Instagram account in the name of the Emir, using the social platform to make fraudulent activities. He was accused of demanding N1.4m from one Barka Sani, as well as different sums from others.



According to the prosecutor, Bello also collected money on the pretext that a Hausa film actress, Zubaida Mu’azu, had composed a song for him as the Emir of Kano. He requested the complainants to pay the said amount into the actress’ First Bank.



The resident of Ja’oji New Court Road Quarters, Kano, was tried on a three-count charge of impersonation, cheating and defamation of character. Bello pleaded guilty to the charges and begged for leniency.



He has now been sentenced to 36 months imprisonment or to pay a fine of N30,000 for the crime. The Senior Magistrate, Hassan Ahmad, sentenced the convict to one year imprisonment or pay a fine of N30,000 for impersonation.



Ahmad also sentenced the convict to another year imprisonment or pay a fine of N30,000 for cheating, and 12 more months in prison with option to pay a fine of N30,000 for defamation of character. The judge also ordered the convict to make arrangement with the six nominal complainants on how he would pay them back the sum of N1.85 million he dubiously collected from them.

National leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, has given reasons for his absence at the National caucus meeting of his party which held at the state house in Abuja last night. Tinubu and one of the party chieftains and his close ally, Bisi Akande, were conspicuosly absent at the meeting.



Speaking through his media aide, Tunde Rahman, Tinubu said he was receiving some young Nigerians when the APC caucus meeting was holding. He said the young Nigerians had organized an event in Lagos on Monday in commemoration of his 66th birthday.



The young Nigerians at the event, appaluded him for his contributions to nation building and also expressed to learn from his wealth of experience as a politician. Tunde Rahman spoke during an interview on Raypower FM this morning.

“Yesterday, a group of younger ones put together a programme for him where they were talking about their impression of him as a leader, as a motivator. You needed to be there; it was so inspiring. You know these younger ones were talking about what they feel Asiwaju stands for. What they think about Asiwaju. I think that was what kept him away from Abuja. He couldn’t be in Lagos at that event and be in Abuja at the same time.”

Asked why Tinubu who is the national leader of the party will chose to go for a birthday celebration instead of an important meeting that had president Buhari in attendance, Rahman said, “I did not tell you these young ones came to visit him. They organized a programme in celebration of his birthday. I think it was only fit and proper that he honoured them (with his presence) the way they honoured him too. You needed to be there. He was the celebrant and everything was around him too. So, I do not know why you would think that is not equally important as well. Don’t also forget that the caucus meeting he did not attend is an advisory body. The caucus is an advisory body. So that he did not attend the caucus meeting should not be a thing that we will make a lot of noise about.”

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has pledged to give 40 per cent of appointments in his cabinet to youths, if he wins the 2019 presidential election.

Atiku made the pledge yesterday at the inauguration of the national and state executives of a pro Atiku group, Intellectual Think-Tank for Atiku (ITTA) in Abuja.

The former Vice President, who was represented at the inauguration by the Chairman of All Atiku Support Group (AASUG) Mr Oladimeji Fabiyi, said: “Having identified the critical role of youths in the emergence of any leader, I pledge to give youths 40 per cent of appointments in my cabinet if elected as the president of Nigeria in 2019.

“As a youth friendly leader who thinks and understands the feelings of youth, I urge them to give me the chance to make their dreams possible”.

His wide, Mrs. Titi Abubakar, represented by Sen. Grace Bent, said that her husband deserved to be the People Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2019 presidential election.

She said Atiku was the right man with the political stamina to wrestle and return power back to PDP and Nigerians.

In his acceptance, the National Coordinator, ITTA, Mr Theophilus Ohuoba, said that group would get down to work immediately.

Ohuoba said that the zonal and state coordinators of the group would go back to their various bases to inaugurate their executives.

He said they would move to the grassroots to mobilise delegates and voters to support Atiku’s candidacy.

Sergey Mavrodi, the founder of MMM, a Russian company that perpetrated one of the world’s largest Ponzi schemes of all time, is dead. According to a report by Moskovsky Komsomolets, the founder of the MMM series of financial pyramid schemes, Mavrodi, died in Moscow at the age of 62. NAIJ.com gathered that Mavrodi was taken to a city hospital from a bus stop overnight Monday, March 26, after he felt weakness and pain in the chest area. “The emergency team has failed to save his life. He died this morning,” the report said. The preliminary cause of death is a heart attack.
Sergei Mavrodi created the company “MMM” in 1992. It quickly gained popularity and became the largest financial pyramid in the history of Russia. The income of the members who joined it was paid out of the contributions of new arrivals, and when the flow of customers ceased to grow, non-payments began. According to various estimates, the number of victims of the MMM has reached 10-15 million people.
In 1994, Mavrodi became a member of the Russian parliament. Then he announced that he was giving up his privileges: salaries and cars. Mavrodi stressed that he became a deputy only for the sake of immunity. Two years later, before the presidential elections in 1996, he was stripped of his mandate. In 2007, Mavrodi was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison for defrauding 10,000 investors out of 110 million rubles ($4.3 million). All this time he left during the preliminary detention while the investigation was conducted.
Mavrodi claimed he is not the beneficiary of the donations and he is not used to flamboyant lifestyle. His true charges of which he was later convicted of is tax fraud though he claimed that MMM scheme is not a business, but a mutual donation program of which there is no law against such. In 2016, he announced the creation of his own crypto currency – Mavro. In the first month, 33,000 people took part in the project.
MMM stands for the first letters of the founders’ surnames – Sergei Mavrodi, Olga Melnikova and Vyacheslav Mavrodi. However, some people believe that it stands for Mavrodi Mondial Moneybox. The company got a lot of money from people – it was making about 50 million USD each day. MMM started as a company that imported office equipment. However, there were some problems.
In January 1992 the company was accused of tax evasion. This led to problems with the financial support of company’s operation. It struggled. But how did MMM achieve that? The company promised annual returns for up to 1000% to private investors. It sounded quite attractive, and a lot of people were eager to invest. With strong advertising and naive people (no one heard about scams during that time), MMM became one of the most successful companies in Russia.
However, the success didn’t last for long. Eventually, the company was shut down in 1994 and it declared bankruptcy in 1997. Unfortunately, everything didn’t end there. After 14 years, the company reopened as “MMM Global.” MMM in Nigeria MMM started in Nigeria in November 2015, when it launched a new website for Nigerian audience. In Nigeria, the company decided to lower the standards and promised profit was 30% per month. The primary target of MMM was unemployed people. The number of people that signed up by the late 2016 was shocking – 2.4 million!
They hoped that MMM would give them easy money and they had no doubts. Unfortunately, after a year of work in Nigeria, MMM announced the freezing of all members accounts. According to the company, the reason was “systems overload and the negative attention brought on by the Government and mass media.” After the freeze of members’ accounts, people started to panic. Sadly, the worst thing that happened was that the panic led them to even attempt to end their lives. Things got so serious that even the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency asked the citizens to look out for each other and call the emergency number if someone was trying to kill himself.
Surprisingly, on January 2017 MMM Nigeria reopened. Also, on February 11th the company announced the lifting of the withdrawal limits on 2017 mavro. Investors were angry because of the delayed, and unfulfilled payments and some people left the scheme. But the company stated that in order to get the pre-2017 money, investors should add new money.
And the more they add, the higher their chances to get the previous money back. Though MMM came back, it could not regain the trust of the bulk of the investors failed to make huge impact it had when it was first introduced. About 110 countries suffered from MMM, including various African countries like Kenya, Ghana, Zimbabwe. People believed in the company and wanted to get a lot of money almost out of nowhere.
Meanwhile, when MMM froze members’ accounts, Nigerian media warned the citizens against investing in the Ponzi scheme reporting that the scheme had collapsed, but many turned deaf ears. Mavrodi himself wrote an open letter to Nigerian journalists whom he claimed were causing unnecessary tension in the country. According to him, MMM will be back by January as earlier stated, hence the rumour about the scheme collapse should stop.

The Peoples Democratic Party says the call by the former minister of defence, Gen. Theophilus Danjuma, that Nigerians should defend themselves against killers, is yet another testimony of the tragic situation which the Buhari Presidency and the All Progressives Congress have dragged our nation.
The party said Gen Danjuma’s statement justifies its stand that the Buhari Presidency and the dysfunctional All Progressives Congress must be held responsible for our agonizing state, adding that, Nigerians are now daily paying the supreme price because of the failures of a grossly incompetent leadership and a deceitful ruling party.
The PDP, in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, on Sunday, said the pronouncement, coming from an army general, a former chief of army staff and former defence minister of Gen. Danjuma’s status is weighty and directly reflects the ugly situation in the country under the APC.
It said the fact that citizens and communities across the country are now resorting to self-defence is also a clear demonstration that Nigerians, across board, have completely lost confidence in President

Buhari and the APC.
It is instructive to recall that former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Babangida, both former military leaders, army generals and patriots, had earlier raised the issue of unabating bloodletting and pogrom in our country under the APC and the Buhari Presidency.
Painfully, the APC-controlled Federal Government has not only failed in finding solution but is also contending with allegations of conspiracy and acts that are believed to have emboldened attacks against innocent Nigerians.
Nigerians are no longer feeling secured in their land. Our country has, in close to three years, assumed a status of killing field where defenceless citizens are despoiled, raped and mowed by insurgents and marauders in Benue, Taraba, Yobe, Gombe, Kaduna, Adamawa, Borno, Plateau, Nasarawa, Rivers, Enugu, Kogi among other states.
Unfortunately, the Buhari-led APC federal government remains aloof and has failed to take decisive steps that will apprehend the masterminds of the carnage.
Instead, what we are witnessing are complete government insensitivity, allegations of complicity and compromise of security around soft targets and dishing out of false information, as was the case in Benue, Yobe, Taraba and other states where Nigerians have come under heavy attacks from marauders.
More intriguing is that the Presidency and the APC Federal Government have refused to come out clear on their roles in the alleged compromising of security in troubled areas, particularly the reported withdrawal of troops from Dapchi prior to the abduction of the schoolgirls.
Nigerians are also yet to see the action taken by President Buhari against the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris, for flouting the presidential orders that he should relocate to troubled Benue in the heat of attacks on the state.
Similarly, the loud silence of the Federal Government on the alleged importation of military equipment by APC interests in Kogi State remains ominous.
Furthermore, the fact that we now have a situation where government confesses to back-channel negotiations with insurgents; hasty offering of amnesty to marauders and killers, allegations of round-tripping in billions of naira on alleged shady ransom payments and swap deals with insurgents also leaves much to be desired under the current circumstances.
While we restate our call for a UN monitored independent inquest on the security situation in our country, we stand with Nigerians in our moment of national despair even as we work collectively on our repositioned PDP to end the misrule of the APC and restore our nation to the path of peace, national cohesion and economic prosperity.

The Northern States Governors’ Forum has held a meeting with the national leadership and state chapters of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, as part of efforts to find lasting solutions to the continued clashes between herders and farmers across the federation.

The meeting, which held in Sokoto, had in attendance NSGF chairman and Borno Governor, Kashim Shettima; host governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and their counterparts from Kano (Abdullahi Ganduje), and Kaduna (Nasir el-Rufai).

El-Rufai joined the meeting after it had started.

Though no formal communique was issued at the end of the meeting, reports indicate that the gathering discussed genesis of the crisis, efforts to contain it and how to entrench permanent solution.

In his opening remarks, Governor Shettima said the 19 northern states are worried by the rising cases of insecurity involving herder and farmers, and expressed optimism that their intervention will help in finding lasting solution to the conflicts.

He said the governors were intervening in order to complement efforts of the Federal Government, and said they hope to adopt ‘local conflict resolution mechanism’ to restore trust and understanding among all the people of the region.

“We have seen enough crisis in the North East with Boko Haram. We cannot afford to let any other conflict linger without a solution.

“We hope to hear from all sides and finally come up with a workable plan that will restore confidence and entrench lasting peace in our region,” he added.

Revealing the position of MACBAN, a source at the meeting said: “The leadership of Miyetti Allah, led by its National President, Muhammed Kirowa, told the meeting that the approach to conflict resolution adopted by political leaders in some states has not been helpful in finding lasting peace.

“In his view, political leaders, especially governors, should approach issues of peace in neutral perspective, not as biased party.

“He said their members have lived in many of these conflict-prone communities for centuries without conflict, but wondered why the situation is getting out of hand now,” the source added.

Reports indicate that even though no resolution was reached at the Sokoto meeting, a new round of discussion will be scheduled to take place in Abuja, Jos, Makurdi and Kaduna.

An attack by suspected herdsmen on Thursday, March 22, 2018 has left many dead in Umenger community in Guma local government area of Benue state.

While only two victims have been confirmed dead, the attackers are reported to have butchered several people, including children and some village elders.

“Several persons have deserted their homes for fear of being killed by the heavily armed herdsmen,” a resident said.

The Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has reacted to the return of 104 Dapchi schoolgirls.

The girls were released by Boko Haram barely 30 days after their abduction.

Okorocha pointed out that President Muhammadu Buhari has displayed strong political wil, adding that how a leader responds to situations goes a long way to show his weakness or strength.

The Governor said since Buhari came on board, he has continued to show that action speaks louder than words.

His reaction was contained in a terse statement made available to newsmen in Owerri, the state capital. by his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo.

The statement said, “Even the way and manner the President led the nation out of recession without allowing the development to linger was a clear indication of strong leadership and that is the reason the nation or Nigerians should continue to support him to fully stabilize the polity.”

He further noted that “if the previous leadership had equally put into play, that level of needed political will or strong leadership, the lengthy story of the Chibok girls would have perhaps, been shortened”.
