Politics‘transmission’ In Buhari’s Letter Evokes Laughter Among Senators by Ogunleti01(op): 2:56pm On Jun 06, 2018
There was a mild drama at the plenary on Wednesday when President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, read President Muhammadu Buhari’s cover letter on an executive bill.
Reading out the letter to members , the mention of “ transmission ” in its title generated laughter in the chamber.
The title read , “Transmission of the Deep Offshore and Inland Basin Production Sharing Contracts Amendment Bill 2018 .”
Saraki also burst into laughter, forcing him to start reading the letter afresh .” Let me start again ,” he said .
Buhari’ s letter read , “ I forward herewith a draft Deep Offshore and Inland Basin Production Sharing Contracts Amendment Bill 2018 for the kind consideration and passage by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria , while hoping that the bill will receive the usual expeditious consideration and passage by the distinguished Senate.”
A viral video had shown the Inspector General of Police , Ibrahim Idris, struggling to read a speech at the inauguration of the Police Technical Intelligence Unit in Kano, Kano State, in May .
The video showed the IG stuttering over words like “ commission ” and “transmission .”

A 32-year-old man has been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) in Nasarawa State for allegedly beating his mother to a state of coma.

The Commandant of NSCDC in the state, Muhammed Gidado Fari, said the suspect, Obey Samuel, was arrested for beating his biological mother “without any provocation.”

Aamuel however denied the allegation. He said, “I did not beat her but I know that when I came back from a night club at that time I was drunk I just locked her up in her room.”

Good point my brother. All those shouting "self defence" don't know what is meant by "stabbing with intent to kill"! If it was just one fatal wound, I'm sure her lawyer would advise her to claim she only swung the knife with her eyes closed in hopes that the victim would leave her alone and not knowing where the knife in question was aimed. But if it's multiple wounds, even two, she's in for it, deep! Self defence my foot, why didn't she quit before killing him? Is that ignorance an excuse to law? Let's just hope the judge would have mercy on her on compassion for the two-month old baby.

Journalist, Azuka Jebrose seems to have taken so much interest in the case of Mrs Olamide Bose Akinbobola, the teacher who stabbed her husband to death in Ikorodu.

He has given updates on the situation and neighbours around the couple's abode have testified to how the woman was always battered by her late husband.

According to Jebrose, his close associates went to the compound of the woman today and what they gathered is quite appalling.

According to Azuka, the neighbors told stories of how the deceased was a lazy man who never wanted to work.

The wife gave birth to their last child two months ago and was forced to bear the financial burden. The teacher had to take up side businesses such as home teaching, hawking of peanuts, braiding of hair and others to feed herself and her family.

Yet, the unemployed husband still comes home to beat her.

Read what Azuka wrote on his Facebook page:

This morning, Mrs. Jennifer Chioma Owolabi, a partner in this quest for Justice for Domestic violence victim, Mrs. Olamide Bose Akinbobola, went to her residence in Ikorodu, seeking her family and additional information. What she found was a tale of misery, a support group of friends unafraid to testify on behalf of this lady that accidentally fatally stabbed her husband midweek.

From the two videos posted herein, watch and listen to their stories as witnesses to how the late husband horribly abused, enslaved and neglected his wife and children.

Their last child was born two months ago, she recently finished paying the hospital bills for the birth of the baby. According to these witnesses which included her employer, Olamide’s husband was lazy, always sleeping, unable to seek employment.

Despite her teacher's job, she also engaged in small businesses such as after-school tutorials for neighborhood children, hawking of roasted peanuts and hair braiding for additional income to sustain the family. In hard moments, she would approach her neighbors to loan her few change to survive the week with her family.

The witnesses demonstrated how and where Olamide had been bruised from beatings and violent assaults by her husband.

“Sometimes we see her with lacerations, swollen bodies, scarred face and black eyes and when we asked her, she would lie to us that she fell and got bruised. But we knew the truth. We saw him severally abused her physically. She ran away while she was pregnant but recently returned to birth her new baby.

She wanted him to be a part of their second child birthing experience, as her husband and father. But he didnt give a damn. She doesn’t deserve this. She is a kind hard working woman that cared for her husband and their children. He brought nothing to support the home. She was always engaged in small business hustles and would surrender whatever profits she made to him as head of household.”

Chioma’s finding included the shock and awe state of the family’s residence. Olamide’s mother was a single mother. She died years ago

Chioma narrates:

“The husband was so abusive that the family of the husband doesn’t want to have anything to do with him. They seem not interested in this matter. My understanding from family and friends in her neighborhood was his family did not want to be part his violence against his wife: according to them, he always beat her. Olamide and her husband and children initially lived with husband’s family but when he would not stop beating her, the family threw them out. I spoke to Olamide’s aunt.

She said she has not visited her at the police station because she is afraid of being arrested. I told her it was wrong not to have gone to check on her or take food to her. She has nobody….She doesn't know her dad; the aunt assumes he lives in Ibadan. What is painful is that this young girl just gave birth two months ago..

The new baby was recently circumcised. Everybody I spoke to confirmed she was being physically and mentally abused by the bastard. You need to see where they live; oh my God”

PoliticsRe: I Saved For Years To Buy My Wife’s G-wagon Car Gift – Gbajabiamila by Ogunleti01: 6:36am On Jun 01, 2018
nwakibie3:
A member of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has defended his much talked about car gift to his wife.

The lawmaker trended on social media for days after a photo and video of a brand new Benz G-Wagon he got his wife surfaced online.

The lawmaker presented the surprise gift on May 27 at an event to commemorate her 50th birthday .

Reacting in a statement on Thursday, Mr Gbajabiamila said he saved for “a couple of years” to buy his wife the luxury vehicle.

He said the presentation was meant to be a family affair. However, it was delayed and arrived when guests were already around.

His statement partly read, “My attention has been drawn to the extensive reports especially on social media regarding the presentation of a gift to my wife and best friend in celebration of her 50th birthday anniversary.

Naturally I had anticipated this occasion for quite a while and prepared by saving up for it in the last couple of years. I took the decision far back to present her with a significant gift, she was totally unaware of, to convey in part, the debt of my gratitude to her for standing by me through ‘thick and thin’. I could never have been half the man I am today without her support and unbelievable understanding. Truly, the monetary value of any gift real or imagined, pales in significance when I consider how much of a ‘rock and pillar’ she has been to me.

“The presentation of the gift contrary to public perception, was to be a family affair in our home but it suffered some delays finally arriving when a number of guests were in to celebrate with my wife. It still would have remained a private affair, but I guess we underestimated the power of social media and very excited friends.

“Having said this, I understand and appreciate the reaction of the public. As a public official, one must be held to a higher standard. My action was not meant to offend sensibilities and I regret that it did.

“Being a leader in many spheres, I can very well understand the optics of it. But I would rather want it to be seen as what it is-an expression of deep appreciation and love for my wife of almost thirty years, rather than one of flamboyance.

“I remain truly committed to my values of improving lives for my constituents and Nigerians at large. As the records will show, I have consistently expended much more in achieving this goal especially within my constituency, than I spend on my wife.”

On a more serious Note, Nairaland is gradually becoming one the the most prevalent sources of media misinformation in this Country. This tactic of using Over Dramatic and Captivating headlines which has very little or No correlation with the actual News report KNOWING FULLY WELL that about 80% of people don't actually Read through the details of the Report, is hugely contributing to the growing problem of blatant misinformation of the General Nigerian populace. And All this in a bid to gather more Traffic and make more money.

OBVIOUSLY The woman wasn't sacked because she gave birth to “Triplets" But because she became absent from work for too long due to her delivery and was still asking for more time so she had to be Replaced. Not to say what her employer did was good, BUT IT WASN'T BECAUSE SHE HAD “TRIPLETS". She would have been sacked regardless of How may Children she gave Birth to as This has nothing to do with Her giving birth to Triplets. The employer was only looking out for his business and is Obviously NOT a "TRIPLET HATER" as these Nairaland mods want us to believe. Still a sad case tho, But definitely NOT what is depicted on the Headline.

Seun, Yes it's a capitalist World and you have to make Profit But please Talk to your Mods to reduce this tactic of using Over Dramatic Headlines just to draw traffic, At least for the sake of your passion for the job and for the sake of the credibility of information reported on this site. The Nigerian people do deserve Accurate and Professional News Reporting. Thank you.

I stand with the police.
It is not fair that an IG was humiliated like this.
His inability to pronounce cantankerous words doesn't spell an inability to carry out the functions of an IGP.

Nigerians are unreasonably highly judgemental,
It is very unfair to expect a man who was taught English language in Hausa to pronounce English words like the Duke of Cambridge.

It's also not fair to expect a man who last marched as a secondary school student to effectively participate in a parade with other service chiefs.

Whoever videotaped the IGP in his ridiculous condition does not just deserve to be arrested but also deserves an award at the Cannes film festival.

With that said,

RomanceRe: Don't Marry Guys Who Have This 10 Habits... by Ogunleti01: 8:24pm On May 19, 2018
drezzyx:
Imagine if you married a guy…but then realised he had bad habits that couldn’t be cured? In this article, Beauty and Tips takes a look at why you need to avoid guys with these 10 habits.

Prince Charming might have flaws, but he doesn’t have bad habits that can ruin a relationship. While it’s impossible to find the absolute perfect man (we’ve looked, he doesn’t exist) that doesn’t mean you should drop your standards and marry a guy who has annoyingly bad habits. For a man to be marriage material, he has to be completely the right man for you. Sure, he will still have flaws (don’t we all?), but flaws are different from habits. Habits are things we’ve learned to do over the years; they’re ingrained in our behaviour and we do them automatically. Not only can they annoy you, but it’s also practically impossible to get a man to change his ways. If a guy has some of the following 10 habits? He isn’t marriage material.

He’s Full Of Excuses

He can’t just give you a straight answer for why he let you down, and instead resorts to his Big Book Of Boyfriend Excuses. Each time he makes an excuse, he’s displaying his immaturity to you. Moreover, there is a good chance he’s lying. Excuses are the resort of children – and you want to marry a man, not a child.

He’s Narrow Minded

Guys who are narrow minded really frustrate us, don’t they? We just wish they would be more open to doing something other than watching sports all weekend, and we wish they would stop making snap, judgemental comments about people. Some guys can seem to be the most open-minded people about certain topics, but become closed off when it comes to other topics. And it’s really annoying because it can contaminate your relationship. For example, imagine you want to hang out with a guy friend you haven’t seen for a while. You know what this guy is all about, and you know what his “intentions” are – to hang out and catch up! Meanwhile, your partner mistrusts him, tells you all guys just want sex from you and won’t let you see him. If your man is still stuck in the 19th century with his close-minded views, he’s hardly worth marrying.

He Shouts

Any guy who has a habit of exploding with anger is a no-go as far as Beauty and Tips is concerned. If you’ve met a man who shouts, screams and verbally abuses people, stay well away from him.

He Breaks Promises

If your man casually breaks promises with you all the time, it isn’t a good sign. What this should tell you is that this is a bad habit he’s picked up down the years and is unlikely to change anytime soon. Broken promises are frustrating. If he breaks a promise early on in the relationship, it’s not a huge deal. But if he keeps doing it, you need to take this as the huge red flag that it is. In simple English, he’s disrespecting you and the relationship, and taking you for a fool. It’s a sign that he doesn’t care enough about you (or anyone for that matter) and probably won’t be changing in the foreseeable future. After all, he doesn’t seem to see it as a problem. But as the movies teach us, those who break their promises suck (it’s usually dad’s breaking their promises to their kids, and yes, they suck. And can you imagine what would happen if you guys had kids and he broke his promises to them, too?!)

He Lies

Breaking a promise is one thing, but if he brazenly lies to your face and you know it’s a clear lie, it’s a major warning sign that this is a guy you can’t trust. Lying is a bad habit that’s easy to get into and hard to get out of. If you’ve caught your man lying red-handed on more than one occasion, you’ll need to consider the very real possibility that he isn’t worth marrying.

He Doesn’t Put You First

If a man doesn’t put you first, you have to ask yourself the question – when will he put me first? The answer is probably never. Guys who don’t prioritise their women are instead in the habit of prioritising their buddies, their work or their hobbies. Love comes last, and if it’s always been this way in your relationship, there is a good chance that it won’t change.

He’s Possessive

It’s okay for someone to be a tad possessive at first. It’s even kinda cute. But you two have been together a while and he’s still being extra clingy, it’s a habit he’s probably not going to break. In fact, it probably means he’s a control freak. And that kind of man isn’t worth walking down the altar with.

He Likes To Win Arguments

If he gets a smug sense of satisfaction whenever he wins an argument between you guys and literally hates the fact that even once he could be wrong, it’s a bad habit that you should take as a red flag. No one in a relationship should go into an argument wanting to win. Instead, the goal should be a resolution that suits both parties. If your partner always has to be right? He isn’t worth your time.

He Won’t Take Responsibility

When we refuse to acknowledge our mistakes and take for responsibility for something that was OUR fault, we’re behaving like children. Worse still, we’re passing the blame onto someone else. Even worse, we’re not giving ourselves the chance to learn from our mistakes. If this sounds a lot like your man, he isn’t marriage material at this point.

He Has An Unhealthy Lifestyle

If he drinks and smokes too much while you’re trying to lead a healthier life, it’s a strong sign that you guys aren’t meant to be. Sure, he could cut down on his drinking and quit smoking. But if he’s tried in the past to no avail, it might be best if you avoid this kind of guy.

Stay happy!
