According to a high-rank Nigerian military intelligence source, the top Boko Haram figure and the leader of the Islamist sect’s Uye camp, was brutally killed in a recent face-off. The person was identified as Bashir Mohammed.

Although Cameroonian authorities yesterday released a photo of a dead man they tagged as ‘Abubakar Shekau’, who was the brutal leader of the terrorist group that keeps wreaking havoc in the country, especially northeast zone, as well as Cameroon, SaharaReporters discovered that these were the Nigerian soldiers who liquidated one of the leaders of the group on September 19, 2014, Friday. Islam for Muslims / Islamic Scholar Opens Doors To First Gay-friendly Mosque In South Africa by Oilandgas1(m): 6:21pm On Sep 21, 2014
A muslim scholar has opened the doors to what is believed to be the world’s only gay- friendly mosque in Cape Town, South Africa.

Dr. Taj Hargey, a professor at Oxford University’s Muslim Educational Centre has completed the ‘Open Mosque’ which welcomes not only gay Muslims, but also invites women to pray alongside men, and even to lead prayers.

The opening of the mosque has been condemned by many in Cape Town’s Muslim community with one Muslim group unsuccessfully attempting to block the opening of the mosque.

Dr. Hargey has said that he hoped the mosque would symbolize the open nature of Islam during the times of Prophet Muhammed, who is said to have allowed prominent women like one of his wives, Khadijah to lead prayers.

"This idea of female invisibility is an innovation that came after Muhammad, unfortunately it has become entrenched," said Dr. Hargey.

Although South Africa’s body for Islamic groups, the Muslim Judicial Council (MJC), says it is investigating members’ concerns of the Open Mosque, several members of Cape Town’s large Muslim community have openly criticized the mosque and even labeled the Dr. Hargey an “unbeliever”.

Still, Dr. Hargey hopes the mosque will counter growing Islamic radicalism, and looks forward to the future.

Politics / Nigeria’s GDP Growth Will Exceed 6% – Okonjo-iweala by Oilandgas1(m): 4:09pm On Sep 19, 2014
The Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala, said on Friday she is confident that growth in 2014 will be around the government’s latest forecast of 6.5 percent after discounting the economic impact of the insurgency waged by the Boko Haram sect.

“We are confident it will be better than 6 percent and about 6.5 per cent,” Okonjo- Iweala, told Reuters.

The government’s latest forecast set in the past few days, puts 2014 growth at 6.5 percent, she said, adding that the forecast already discounted the impact from the Boko Haram insurgency.

Okonjo-Iweala said the impact of the Ebola outbreak on the Nigerian economy was not yet significant.

The minister was in Singapore to attend a conference jointly organised by Singapore state investor, Temasek, Goldman Sachs and the National University of Singapore, that discussed issues related to sustainable growth.

Politics / Re: How Suntai Was Smuggled Out Of Abuja Airport, Kept Away From Acting Governor by Oilandgas1(m): 10:24pm On Sep 16, 2014
Brain-Damaged Taraba State Governor Danbaba Suntai Speaking To The Press.
Politics / How Suntai Was Smuggled Out Of Abuja Airport, Kept Away From Acting Governor by Oilandgas1(m): 12:21am On Sep 15, 2014
A deplorable hide-and-seek game played out yesterday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja as the ailing Governor Danbaba Suntai of Taraba State was kept away from state’s acting governor and smuggled out of the airport. The whole game, orchestrated by a cabal close to the severely brain injured governor, was part of a design to throw off reporters who had been waiting to meet Mr. Suntai on his arrival from the UK where he had been receiving additional medical treatment.

Friends and associates of the governor as well as reporters had gathered at the local wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport as early as 6:00 p.m. based on information that his plane from the UK would touch down there at 8:00 p.m. Among those waiting to receive the ailing governor were members of the House of Representatives from Taraba State and the Secretary to the Taraba State Government, Gidion Kataps.

But the reporters were soon tipped off that the Minister of State for the Niger Delta, Dahiru Ishiaku, was spotted at the international wing of the airport waiting to receive Mr. Suntai. Consequently, some of the reporters rushed to the international wing where they met the minister, Jolly Nyame, a former governor of Taraba State Governor, a senior Air Force officer, and Mr. Suntai’s lawyer huddled in a conversation. Suddenly, the acting Governor of Taraba State, Umar Garba, arrived at the international airport. Without looking at the huddled officials, Mr. Garba headed toward the VIP lounge, expecting to meet Mr. Suntai. To his surprise, there was nobody at the lounge. As the acting governor waited in the lounge, our correspondent saw a Mercedes Benz car with a customized number “4” and a Toyota Land Cruiser driving out of the tarmac of the international wing, joining the convoy of the Minister of State for the Niger Delta. The convoy zoomed off in high speed to the home of ex-General Theophilus Danjuma in the Asokoro area of Abuja. The convoy’s commando-style exit at top speed was apparently meant to make it impossible for the acting governor’s convoy to catch up with them.

Politics / Boko Haram Allegedly Agree To Swap 30 Chibok Girls For 18 Commanders by Oilandgas1(m): 9:49pm On Sep 11, 2014
Boko Haram are reportedly ready to release some of the abducted Chibok girls following a secret negotiation with the group commander.

The Nation Newspaper reports that Boko Haram has agreed to release some of the abducted 219 Chibok girls after a secret negotiation between a government delegation and a Boko Haram commander . The leadership of the sect is said to have demanded the release of 18 of its key members in exchange for some of the schoolgirls. However, there was reportedly an obstacle in the negotiation process as the government wanted all of the girls to be freed but the sect said it would free only 30. One source reportedly told The Nation: “Some top officials met with Umar (The Boko Haram commander) about two weeks ago in Kuje Prison to discuss issues connected to the fate of the Chibok girls. “We heard some inmates sharing this information that the sect might swap the girls with Umar and others. But all the details are still secret because Umar keeps to himself a lot.” While another source said: “The delegation had a fruitful negotiation with Umar, who is one of the highly-rated commanders of Boko Haram. The group assured Umar of a swap and he has been looking forward to it. “The sect has given a list of 18 of its members to be swapped with the abducted Chibok girls.” The over 200 girls were abducted from the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Borno on April 14, 2014, 150 days ago.

Celebrities / Fake Hulk Hogan Storms Lagos, Receives VIP Treatment by Oilandgas1(m): 2:09am On Sep 10, 2014
There is a fake Hulk Hogan in Lagos, Nigeria at the moment and he has successfully fooled everyone, including Police officers and celebrities.

A few days ago, Actor, Ik Ogbonna announced the wrestler’s arrival by posting a photo of himself with the alleged ‘Hulk Hogan’ saying “Time out with world famous veteran wrestler — Hulk Hogan”

This man sure looks like Hulk Hogan and was spotted with full police escort in Mushin, Lagos, treated like a star this morning.

However, we have just found out that the real Hulk Hogan hasn’t been to Nigeria – a fan tweeted at him asking if he was in indeed in Nigeria at the moment and he denied it.

He is in Montreal.

This is not the first time a big star has been successfully impersonated.

Last year, Psy (Ghangam style star) was impersonated by someone who fooled many celebrities at the Cannes film festival.

Celebrities / The World’s Most Powerful Lawyers And Law School Graduates by Oilandgas1(m): 2:53am On Sep 01, 2014
Almost everyone who steps foot inside a law school in pursuit of a degree dreams of someday becoming a powerful voice on the world stage, but only a few are able to see that goal through to fruition. In fact, according to the latest Forbes ranking of the World’s Most Powerful People, only 10 lawyers or law school graduates truly matter. Each year, Forbes compiles a list of the most influential people on the planet, and this year, out of the 72 leaders chosen (one “power broker” per every 100 million people in the world), about 14 percent of those who made the list are lawyers or law school graduates. Which legal eagles soared to great heights and made their way onto this year’s list? Let’s find out… Mere mortals of the legal realm wish they could be one of the most powerful human beings on Earth, but only the best of lawyers were able to do so. Here’s how Forbes describes this most awesome list: The Most Powerful People in the World list is an annual snapshot of the heads of state, CEOs and financiers, philanthropists and NGO chiefs, billionaires, and entrepreneurs who truly rule the world. It represents the collective wisdom of top FORBES editors, who consider hundreds of nominees before ranking the planet’s top 72 power-brokers – one for every 100 million people on Earth — based on their scope of influence and their financial resources relative to their peers. We pored over the list of 72 world leaders and identified 10 individuals who are lawyers, taking a broad definition of the term “lawyer,” which Black’s Law Dictionary defines as “a person learned in the law; as an attorney, counsel or solicitor; a person who is practicing law.” We picked out people who hold a law degree, without regard to bar admissions or whether they actually practice law (or ever did). Here are the 10 lawyers we noticed, in descending order, with a brief blurb about each one. Each honoree’s name is linked to their Forbes Most Powerful write-up. If we happened to miss anyone, please email us or let us know in the comments, and we will update this post. 63. Alisher Usmanov: He received a degree in international law at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations. He’s the richest man in all of Russia for his work with iron and steel, as well as one of the richest men in the world, and he’s never practiced law a day in his life. Figures. 62. John Roberts: The Chief Justice of the United States attended Harvard Law School, and is slightly less powerful than he was last year (formerly #59 on this list). He’s had a hand in moving the high court in a more conservative direction, and the world is watching to see what happens during this year’s term. 53. Dmitry Medvedev: Russia’s Prime Minister (and former president) studied law at Leningrad State University (now known as Saint Petersburg State University). He was slightly less powerful last year, coming in at #61, but perhaps his new oversight of the country’s laws has to do with his rising fame. 43. Bill Clinton: A Yale Law graduate, this two-term president known for being impeached by the House for his affair with Monica Lewinsky now spends his time doing public speaking engagements for philanthropic ventures. If his wife runs for president in 2016, we imagine he’ll become even more powerful. 37. Enrique Pena Nieto: Ay dios mio, this man is good looking! After studying law at the Universidad Panamericana, Nieto went on to become the president of Mexico. While he’d like to fix the country’s drug problems (good luck with that, buddy), he’s settling for fixing its broken tax system instead. 35. Christine Lagarde: The only woman on the list of lawyers, Lagarde graduated from Paris West University Nanterre La Défense with degrees in English, labor law, and social law. She was the first-ever woman to serve as chair at Baker & McKenzie, and now she runs the IMF. Get it, girl! 27. Lloyd Blankfein: He graduated from Harvard Law School, and now he’s rolling around in money as the CEO of Goldman Sachs. Previously, he rolled around in money working at Proskauer Rose, and later Donovan Leisure. If there ever was a man to receive a million dollar law degree, it’s this guy. 14. Li Keqiang: After studying law at Peking University, he later went on to become the Prime Minister of China. Forbes notes that while he’s loyal to the communist party, he’s “been credited with economic liberalism,” promising economic reforms that the country has never seen before. 2. Barack Obama: This Harvard Law School graduate is currently in his second term as president, and while he’s been under fire for the NSA’s spying and his signature health care law’s epic fail upon roll-out, he’s still in charge of the United States of America. Come on, let’s give this man some credit. UPDATE (10/31): 1. Vladimir Putin: Russia’s president also studied law at Saint Petersburg State University, where he concentrated in international law. Forbes places him in the number one spot this year because he “frequently shows his strength at home and on the global stage.” Did we miss any lawyers or law-related honorees on the Forbes ranking of the World’s Most Powerful People? If so, please let us know email us or in the comments. Congratulations to all the lawyers and law school graduates who made the list. These worthy people stand as living proof that you truly can do anything with a law degree.
