Properties / Re: LASG Announces 3 Months Amnesty Program For Regularising Building Documents by OkanlawonB(m): 11:08pm On Apr 15 |
This process will surely not come cheap, considering the fact that obtaining a building permit for a yet to be built dwelling in Lagos is generally expensive let alone an already built one that may not conform to building standards. |

Travel / Re: Japa: There Is A Dentist Crisis In UK. by OkanlawonB(m): 7:59pm On Mar 31 |
Who should then take care of our home people in need of dental care? Thank God is not everybody that is carried away with the idea of earning pounds Sterling. Uk brain draining developing countries like Nigeria of their strategic manpower is not a long lasting solution to her constant and aggravating shortage. Elsewhere on mainland Europe where fast accessibility to healthcare is taken for granted, tertiarry education including medicine and dentistry is free for citizens and foreigners. A good percentage of the students also get non refundable monthly allowances. But GB is running tertiarry education as a business enterprise hence this selfinsufficiency. 10 Likes 2 Shares |

Didi233: Generally, even if your level of the German Language is not yet up to B2, it won´t hinder your being admitted. You will only be given admission as an irregular student. This admission as an irregular student is enough to process your visa/residence permit. After arrival in Austria, you will be registered in your school as an irregular student, with this you still have all rights of a regular student including the 20hrs/week work permit. During this period you will be learning the Language either at your school or outside for example at VHS, WIFI or BFI. You have up to two years to fulfil the language requirement of your school. One important hint i will like to drop pertains to the 20hrs/week work permit, it is of pertinence you print out copies of the work permit forms and take along with you to any prospective employer to fill and you return this to the AMS (Austrian Labour Office) for stamping, this will ease your process of getting a job because some employers may be ignorant of your right to work in Austria. The PDF format of the work permit forms are on the homepage of the AMS, download this and print multiple copies for yourself. 1 Like |

Properties / Re: My Experience With Building Approval In Lagos by OkanlawonB(m): 4:00pm On Mar 11 |
ojasweb: That is averagely about the amount it cost to get approval for an averagely valued location in Lagos. The rate you paid is well below average considering the size of your proposed building. Your processing time frame of about 4 months is also way shorter than the norm. Purchase receipt of Land alone is not adequate, an evidence of payment of stamp duty to the FIRS(federal internal revenue se.rvice) is also required, this is also stressful. It is in most cases difficult to get cleared on tax matters from the LIRS( Lagos internal revenue service) by just presenting the last 3 years tax clearance certificates. LIRS often demand for more money inform of taxation to be paid into the government Koffer. If the process was as you said you experienced it in terms of cost and processing time frame, i don't think many prospective builders will be complaining the way they do now. 1 Like |

BALKAN Airlines, the Bulgarian Airlines. The one our badmouth people nicknamed PANGOLO was about the cheapest airline flying from Lagos to Europe in those days. AEROFLOT, the russian Airlines was another cheap communist airline that flew the Lagos - Europe route in those days. Both Airlines had their Salesoffices/Outlets at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos. 96 Likes 11 Shares |

Didi233: JKU Linz has a Faculty of Medicine, so also is the University of Graz, both are public universities. Two other private Universities, Danube Private University in Krems and Sigmund Freud University in Vienna do offer Medicine. The Private Universities are not subsidized for non EU citizens like the Public Unis where everyone pays the subsidized fee of about 760 euros per session. Because of the limited available study spaces of Medicine in Austria, Germany and Swiss admission is restricted for non EU citizens. abbey621: I dont know which age group you belong, probably younger than i am. I can attest to it that our nigerian society did gave something tangible to me, the free education up to university level myself and many nigerians of my generation benefited from is worthy of appreciation. Investing in something like real estate for rent at affordable price , is the least i can do to give back to the society what the society gave to me. By so doing providing job opportunities for those involved in the building project , payments into the government purse in the process of obtaining the right documention is also a form of contribution to the society. After working with paying full social insurance contributions for 3 decades in europe, the returns i get from such investment is of secondary importance to me.. |

abhosts: I personally consider investing in Nigeria while living abroad( in the West) more a case of giving back to the society what the society gave to me and not necessarily for economic reasons. If i want to invest in properties for economic gains , i will rather invest in certain selected Western european countries. 1 Like |
Properties / Re: A Ton Of 12mm Iron Rode Is Now 950,000 From 510,000 by OkanlawonB(m): 2:38pm On Feb 12 |
Doesnt come as a surprise as the naira exchange rates is plunging and nose diving. I was able to get at the rate of 800k per ton though many Sellers were insisting in 850k as at last week. The artificial deprecition of the naira against major hard currencies has unfairly and unjustly favored hard curreny spenders in the nigerian market, unfortunately prices of commodities will keep rising until this advantage and favor is excluded. |

@Segunagagu, after the UK, the Irish Republic is the next country with a significant population of Nigerians in Europe. Some remote counties like Louth and Donegal has also some nigerian presence. I do believe that some of these residents are on nairaland and it will keep this thread more alive and active if the thread is so titled that such people can relate to it and make contributions to the thread. Please if possible edit the title to make it more inclusive. |

Mboi2: The state of Upper Austria has two universities that may be of interest to international students, the Johannes Kepler University located in the state capital, Linz. There is also the university of Applied Science, upper Austria (FH, Oberösterreich) with campuses in Wels, Linz, Steyr and Hagenberg. Though the cities of Linz, Steyr and Wels have good public transport network and may offer some modest opprtunities for student Jobs , in contrast Hagenberg is more of a rural setting. FH Hagenberg (Software Park) is a gigantic school of Information Technology with some courses of study taught 100% in English. FH Wels, Steyr and Linz also have some courses in english. What should make you choose Upper Austria over Vienna is may be your intended course of study is available in english only in Upper Austria ,if not Vienna is a better choice. Vienna is not more expensive compared to Upper Austria. Accommodation is not a big deal in Vienna, there are many student accommodation in Vienna. Settling in Vienna is easier because of its more cosmopolitan nature. |

As regards jobbing and jobs for non EU students including Nigerians in Austria, the allowed 20hrs/week during the school semester is a right and not a privileg , obtaining working permits from the Austrian Labour Office (Arbeitsmarktservice) for these jobs is a mere formality and not at all complicated so long the total hours don`t exceed 20/week. It is also of pertinence to note that when a new student starts jobbing and the earnings of the particular job is above the minijob (geringfügige Beschäftigung) flatrate currently set at 518,44€/month, the employer is obliged to pay your social insurance contributions (SV Beitrag), though a small fraction will also be deducted from your earnings for this purpose. The Social Insurance Contributions is not a mere health insurance but a comprehensive insurance that covers health, pension, unemployment and accident. Combining multiple generous minijobs(geringfügige Beschäftigung) may helpful to a student because its not uncommon to find minjob that is not time intensive but pays good flat rate. When combining minijobs, it is important to note that you have to go the Regional Health Service centre (Gebietskrankenkasse) so as to know the due monthly social insurance contributions to be paying because each minijob pays only the accident insurance. 3 Likes |
