Please who "officially" devalued our Naira since the president said it wasn't him.
He also resisted increase in petroleum products. But we know petrol is now N145, up from N87.
So who authorized all these while the president was resisting them?
PoliticsPresidency Denies Sack Of Ibrahim Magu As EFCC Chairman - PREMIUM TIMES by OKDnigeria(op): 11:34am On Dec 31, 2016
Contrary to reports, Ibrahim Magu, has not been relieved of his appointment as Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the presidency has said.

The Guardian newspaper quoted an unnamed source as saying Mr. Magu had been asked to vacate his seat by the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.

Although Mr. Malami could not be reached on phone, officials at the presidency denied the report.

“It is not true,” presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina, told PREMIUM TIMES on Saturday.

Mr. Adesina confirmed that Mr. Buhari had not authorised Mr. Magu’s removal.

Close aides of Mr. Magu also said no such directive was received from the Attorney General’s office.

Messrs. Magu and Malami were said to have met on Friday to finetune ‎case files on an urgent matter asked to be investigated by Mr. Buhari.

However, multiple sources at the presidency and the AGF’s office confirmed to PREMIUM TIMES that Mr. Malami ‎on Friday submitted a report to President Buhari.

The report was in response to the president’s directive that Mr. Malami investigate allegations of corruption levelled on Mr. Magu by the State Security Service, SSS.

“He (Mr. Malami) was rebuffed by‎ the president when he tried to submit the report,” a source at the presidency told PREMIUM TIMES. “HE was asked to submit the report to Vice President Osinbajo.

“Instead, the president gave him further instructions on some fresh assignments to be carried out jointly by him and Magu.”

PoliticsI Was Overthrown In 1984 For Refusing To Devalue The Naira – Buhari by OKDnigeria(op): 11:26am On Dec 31, 2016
President Muhammadu Buhari has restated his resolve not to devalue the naira or increase the price of fuel.

He made this known in Abuja on Friday night, during the 2016 regimental dinner organized by the presidential brigade of guards.

Buhari also suggested that his refusal to devalue the naira and increase fuel price during his time as Military Head of State in 1984-1985, led to his overthrow.

“I have resisted the devaluation of the naira, increase of the petroleum products, among others,” he told the soldiers and officers.

“When I was military head of state, I rejected similar advice by the IMF and World Bank to devalue the naira.

“I refused and gave my reasons and the next thing I knew I was removed and detained for three and half years.

“As a civilian president, I will do my best and I’m telling you all these because you are part of the leadership of this great country and God willing we will remain great.”

When Buhari assumed office in May 2015, the exchange rate was N197/$1. It currently stands at over N300 to $1 officially and N495/$1 in the black market.

PoliticsTwo Dead, Mosque Burnt As Fulani, Igbo Clash In Enugu Market by OKDnigeria(op): 8:52pm On Dec 29, 2016
Tension was high at the Garki Area of Enugu State
on Wednesday following a deadly clash between
the Fulani and the Igbos.

Already, the police in the state confirmed to DAILY
POST that two persons were killed during the
bloody clash.

The deceased persons were identified as one Ali, a
Fulani and Ifeanyi Ifeacho, an Igbo.

The incident is coming few days after a policeman
was killed at the New Artisan Market, prompting
the closure of the market by the State Government.

According to an eyewitness, trouble started when
Ali came from the New Artisan Market with a cow
to slaughter in the Gariki abattoir.

He disclosed that “Ali came to Gariki abattoir
where Ifeanyi worked as attendant to slaughter his
cow, following the closure of New Artisan Market
by the state government early this week.

“When Ali finished slaughtering his cow, he gave
Ifeanyi N400 instead of the N500 fee for
slaughtering a cow in the abattoir.

“Ifeanyi asked him to give him the remaining N100
but the Fulani man remained adamant, insisting
that he would not pay any other money.

“The misunderstanding degenerated to a fight
between the two.”

It was gathered that Ali quickly pulled out a dagger
and stabbed Ifeanyi severally on the stomach.
Ifeanyi slumped on the ground and died on the
spot.

“When he realized what he had done, he (Ali)
attempted to escape from the market but some
outraged Igbo traders grabbed him and killed him
in turn.

“The angry Igbo traders mobilized and burnt down
the mosque inside Gariki market.”

The Spokesman for Enugu State Police Command,
SP Ebere Amaraizu, who had earlier confirmed the
incident through a text message to our
correspondent, said the command deployed anti-
riot policemen to Gariki market immediately to
stop the situation from escalating.

He stated that: “Two persons were confirmed dead
during a clash between an Easterner and a
Northerner over an alleged misunderstanding that
arose between them in the evening at Gariki
Awkunanaw Market.

“Security has been beefed up in the area by Enugu
State Commissioner of Police, Douglas Agbonleni,
to avoid escalation and breakdown of law and
order, just as a full scale investigation has
commenced into the incident.”

Mr Awe pls choose carefully the people you fight with. Everything is not politics.
PoliticsAPC Slams Pastor Adeboye Over Support For Fayose, Alleges Bribery by OKDnigeria(op): 8:14pm On Dec 25, 2016
The All Progressives Congress, APC, in
Ekiti State has frowned at the comment
made by the General Overseer of the
Redeemed Christian Church of God,
RCCG, Enoch Adeboye, yesterday
commending the state governor, Ayodele
Fayose, for what he called the governor’s
courage and willingness to defend his
people and the cause of the common man
in the country.

The party said it was alarmed that a cleric
of Mr. Adeboye’s standing could praise
Governor Fayose for his persistent insults
and abuses on President Muhammadu
Buhari, noting that the cleric should be
seen as speaking for himself and his
comment must not be seen as
representing that of the entire members
of the RCCG.

In a release issued in Ado Ekiti on Sunday
and signed by the state chairman of the
party, Jide Awe, the party alleged that Mr.
Fayose could have bribed Mr. Adeboye
with huge amount of money to get such
endorsement, which is not being
circulated.

Pastor Adeboye had during his tour of the
country to the state as part of the
church’s annual ‘Let’s Go A Fishing”
programme, said to Mr. Fayose: “We
thank God for your courage, for your
boldness, we thank God for your being
willing to take risks so that your people
can be protected. You have been a
governor who knows when to say enough
is enough in defence of his people. And
I’m sure you know what I’m talking about
and I am sure the world knows. I don’t
want to say more than that but be
assured that we are praying for you and
you will succeed in Jesus name.”

Mr. Awe said Governor Fayose is a man
that can bribe even angel of God to
endorse the devil, warning Mr. Adeboye
to avoid what will make the people of
Ekiti rise against him.

The APC said that Mr. Adeboye even
chose this period of the birth of our Lord
Jesus Christ to embark on praise singing
of a character like Mr. Fayose is to say the
least, preposterous.

The party chairman called on members of
the RCCG, especially families of the
founder, Josiah Akindayomi, to call Mr.
Adeboye to order before he destroys the
church with his involvement in politics.
He said the pastor must not be allowed to
destroy the legacies of the founder of the
Redeemed Church and the entire
members of the church.

Mr. Awe said Mr. Adeboye should be
reminded that Vice President Yemi
Osinbajo is a staunch member of the
RCCG and what is expected of the cleric
was support for members of his church,
not praise singing of Mr. Fayose.

PoliticsPresident Buhari Declares Sambisa Forest Capture From Boko Haram by OKDnigeria(op): 2:18pm On Dec 24, 2016
President Muhammadu Buhari has commended Nigerian Army troops on the capture of Sambisa Forest, widely regarded as Boko Haram's last enclave. The President made the commendation in a State House press statement issued on Saturday.

"I delighted at, and most proud of the gallant troops of the Nigerian Army, on receipt of the long-awaited and most gratifying news of the final crushing of Boko Haram terrorists in their last enclave in Sambisa Forest.
I want to use this opportunity to commend the determination, courage, and resilience of troops of Operation Lafiya Dole at finally entering and crushing the remnants of the Boko Haram insurgents at “Camp Zero,” which is located deep within the heart of Sambisa Forest," said President Buhari.

The President said he was informed by the Chief of Army Staff, Major-General TY Buratai, that the camp fell at about 1:35 pm on Friday, December 23 and that the terrorists no longer have a place to hide.

President Buhari urged the troops sustain the momentum by also ensuring that the terrorists are made to face justice and called on Nigerians to support the Armed Forces and other security agencies by providing useful information that will expose all terrorists hiding among the populace. He also called for the intensification of efforts to rescue the remaining Chibok girls.

"Further efforts should be intensified to locate and free our remaining Chibok girls still in captivity. May God be with them. I also want to congratulate and commend the able leadership of the Nigerian Army in particular and indeed, that of the Armed Forces in general, for making this possible," said President Buhari.

Wants more efforts to rescue remaining Chibok girls

Olalekan Adetayo, Abuja

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday expressed his excitement on the news of the Nigerian Army’s crushing of Boko Haram’s last enclave in Sambisa Forest called “Camp Zero.”

He said the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, informed him that the camp fell at about 1:35pm on Friday and that the terrorists were on the run, and no longer have a place to hide.

In a goodwill message he sent to the troops, the President said he was proud of them and their achievement.

He called on all Nigerians to cooperate and support the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies by providing useful information that will expose all the terrorists hiding among the populace.

Buhari said more efforts should be intensified to locate and free the remaining girls abducted from their school in Chibok, Borno State in 2014.

The President wrote, “I am delighted at, and most proud of the gallant troops of the Nigerian Army, on receipt of the long-awaited and most gratifying news of the final crushing of Boko Haram terrorists in their last enclave in Sambisa Forest.

“I want to use this opportunity to commend the determination, courage and resilience of troops of Operation Lafiya Dole at finally entering and crushing the remnants of the Boko Haram insurgents at “Camp Zero”, which is located deep within the heart of Sambisa Forest.

“I was told by the Chief of Army Staff that the Camp fell at about 1:35pm on Friday, December 22, and that the terrorists are on the run, and no longer have a place to hide. I urge you to maintain the tempo by pursuing them and bringing them to justice.

“I, therefore, call on all Nigerians to cooperate and support the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies by providing useful information that will expose all the terrorists hiding among the populace.

“Further efforts should be intensified to locate and free our remaining Chibok girls still in captivity. May God be with them.

“I also want to congratulate and commend the able leadership of the Nigerian Army in particular and indeed, that of the Armed Forces in general, for making this possible. This, no doubt, will go a long way in improving the security situation not only in the North East, but the country in general. But we must not let our guards down.

“Once more, congratulations to our troops and all who, in one way or the other, contributed to this most commendable and momentous effort. May the Almighty continue to be with you.

“I wish you a Merry Christmas and a most rewarding and peaceful Year 2017 ahead.”

PoliticsNo Plastic Rice In Nigeria – Health Minister, Debunks Claims By Nigerian Customs by OKDnigeria(op): 12:32am On Dec 23, 2016
Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole has faulted
the report that plastic rice has flooded the Nigerian

According to the minister, there was no evidence
to back those claims.

Few days back, the Federal Operations Unit, Ikeja,
of the Nigeria Customs Service announced that it
had intercepted 102 bags of plastic rice branded
“Beat Tomato Rice’’ with no date of manufacture.

According to the Customs Area Controller of

gifts for the public.

Haruna said that officers of the unit intercepted the

that a suspect was arrested in connection with the

“Before now, I thought it was a rumour that the
plastic rice is all over the country but with this

PoliticsU.N. Warns Of Looming Water Crisis In Lagos - Lagosians Beware! by OKDnigeria(op): 9:46pm On Dec 22, 2016
Nigeria's commercial capital Lagos faces a water crisis that is creating unacceptable conditions for millions of people, a U.N. expert said on Thursday, but an official in the megacity said spending was being increased to alleviate the problem.
The 21 million residents of Lagos, which is built on a lagoon, struggle to find water suitable for drinking and sanitation. Estimates suggest only one in 10 people have access to water supplied by the state utility provider, according to the U.N.
This has been compounded by years of mismanagement, said Léo Heller, the U.N. special rapporteur on the human rights to water and sanitation, after Lagos's state governor presented a proposed budget for 2017 to the Lagos House Assembly.
"Government reports indicate alarmingly high deficits in the sector, representing clearly unacceptable conditions for millions of the megacity's residents," a U.N. statement quoted Heller as saying.
More funding could be used to improve the state utility provider, adopt financing schemes and reduce water losses, he said.
Reacting to the comments, Steve Ayorinde, Lagos state information commissioner, said the 2017 budget increased spending with the aim of addressing the two key issues of potable water and cleaner environment.
But he said the migration of people from other parts of Nigeria and neighbouring countries had put pressure on the city's infrastructure.
"Private capital is required in the state government's quest to provide more access to potable water," he said, adding that Lagos state government was "determined to explore" public- private partnerships
Lagos is the biggest city in Africa's most populous nation.
Despite having Africa's largest economy, Nigeria has one of the highest child death rates from water-borne diseases in Africa. It has sought international development help to finance new water treatment plants and expand its distribution networks.
As a result of the creaky public water system, many residents rely on private water suppliers, or bore into pipes themselves. Damaged pipes leak millions of gallons of treated water, about one- quarter of the supplies meant for homes, schools, hospitals and industry.
Water rights activists, labour unions and environmentalists blame the failure on the endemic corruption that permeates so much of Nigeria, which ranks in the bottom fifth on Transparency International's Corruption Perception Index.

InvestmentMMM Founder Blasts Nigerian Journalists, Bloggers; Says MMM Will Be Back! by OKDnigeria(op): 9:03am On Dec 19, 2016
Irked by what he described as bad press against the wonder-bank, Mavrodi Mundial Movement, MMM, its founder, Sergey Mavrodi, has written an open letter to Nigerian journalists, "analysts" and all kinds of "experts" who according to him are guilty of causing unnecessary panic and tension among MMM participants in the country.

Mavrodi who expressed his disappointed about the way MMM is being painted in the media, said emphatically that "MMM will be back in January" while stating that the rumour about the scheme collapse should stop.

Mavrodi's open letter is coming after a one-month freezing of confirmed "Mavros" notice was sent to MMM Nigeria participants on Dec 12, 2016.

Sergey Mavrodi went ahead to describe articles from Nigerians journalists and bloggers as "provocative and worthless."

His statement read: "Dear journalists, "analysts" and all kinds of "experts"! Please stop using MMM to gain cheap popularity. Leave us alone and let us work without interference. I'm just astonished by your irresponsibility and cynical attitude. Interests of millions of people, your fellow citizens are at stake. Don't you have any sympathy for them? Why are you fueling hysteria around MMM and provoking a panic? Why are you doing this so diligently and persistently, what is your purpose?

"In fact, absolutely all your provocative and worthless articles and "analyses" (I said "worthless" because you do not have any real information about what happens in the System, and might have never had; you simply invent everything, fabricate it) are merely negative: "MMM has collapsed!!!.. MMM will not be working in January!!!.." etc.

"Are you intentionally presenting all of it in such a manner and whipping up tension by any means possible in order to increase the ratings of your publications and attract attention to them? Don't you care about people at all?

"So, nothing has collapsed, and MMM will safely resume its work in January, as announced. Suspension of work for holidays is a usual thing, merely working moment, no more than that. It would have remained a normal, just a part of the usual routine, and might have gone almost unnoticed if it were not for your totally cynical and irresponsible attempts to advertise yourself, create a scandal out of nowhere, and make the most of this news topic in any possible way.

"Again, leave MMM alone and let us work. Nothing has collapsed, and MMM will perfectly resume its work in January. We Can Change the World!"

PoliticsMagu Will Be EFCC Chairman, Whether They Like It Or Not – Itse Sagay by OKDnigeria(op): 12:19am On Dec 16, 2016
The Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Corruption, Professor Itse Sagay, has said Ibrahim Magu’s appointment will be renewed whether he is confirmed or not.

Mr. Magu is the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. The Senate on Thursday refused to confirm his appointment after leaving the matter pending for five months.

In a wide-ranging interview published in the current edition of The Interview, Mr. Sagay said, “whether they like it or not, he (Magu) will be there. His chairmanship will keep on being renewed.

“Since Nuhu Ribadu left, we have not had a man with such sterling qualities as Ibrahim Magu and whether they like it or not, Magu will be there until he completes his term under the law.”

The EFCC chairman has a four-year tenure. From the EFCC Act, non-confirmation does not impair his duties.

A statement by the MD/Editor-In-Chief, Azu Ishiekwene, described the edition as “arguably the best kept secret in the anti-corruption war.”

The Senate said it would not confirm Mr. Magu based on “security reports.”

No details were given.

In the interview conducted before Thursday’s confirmation hearing, Mr. Sagay said Mr. Magu’s delayed confirmation was “corruption fighting back.”

Also speaking on corruption in the judiciary, he said what retiring chief justices collect off the books is “frightening and totally unrelated to what the judiciary is entitled to.”

The National Judicial Council recently suspended seven justices of the Supreme Court on allegations of corruption and two of them have so far been arraigned.

Investigations by The Interview, which Mr. Sagay neither confirmed nor denied, indicated that the NJC pays retiring justices up to N800m in cash and provides a house valued at N500m, off the books.

The practice started around 2010 and virtually all retired CJs have benefited from it.

“Something very serious is happening there,” Sagay said. “Those rumours have some basis.”

He also spoke on the acting appointment of the current Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen; the perpetual injunction from arrest or investigation granted to former Rivers State Governor, Peter Odili; his relationship with Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi; and President Muhammadu Buhari’s fight against corruption.

In the edition also, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Financial Crimes, Kayode Oladele, said the wrong public perception of lawmakers was based on insufficient information, saying there were victims of public ignorance.

He spoke on the future of the fight against corruption and the efforts of his committee to restore Nigeria as a full member of the Financial Action Task Force.

The end-of-year edition also contained some of the inside story in the making of Daily Trust newspapers by its former Managing Director, Isiaq Ajibola, and an interview with the current African champion of table tennis, Funke Oshonaike.

PoliticsFrozen Account: Drama As Fayose Storms Bank, Withdraws N5m‎ by OKDnigeria(op): 12:04am On Dec 16, 2016
Following the order by the Federal High Court, Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday that his accounts should be immediately unfrozen, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, Thursday stormed the Ado-Ekiti branch of the Zenith Bank Plc.

Fayose stormed the premises of the bank at about 1:30 pm and made straight for the office of the Bank’s Branch manager, Mr. Mojeed Adekunle and presented a withdrawal cheque.

He reminded the bank manager that he had called at the bank following a court order served on the bank on Wednesday, December 14, to unfreeze his accounts.

Handing out the checque, the governor said he was ready to wait till anytime his money would be given to him in cash.

“I am ready to wait in your office till you close as I want my money in cash,” he said firmly.

Obviously complying with the court order, Mr. Adekunle promptly produced a copy of the said court order and confirmed to the governor that his office already received a copy as reported and would act on the directive from the governor immediately.

At exactly 3:30 pm, after two hours, the governor left the bank with cash of N5 million.

He declared: “I came to the bank after serving them with the court order and I made up my mind that I won’t leave the bank until my money is given to me. And the bank has done the needful by giving me part of the money, confirming that they have obeyed the court order.

“I want to thank Nigerians and my supporters for believing in our cause that Nigerians should not be oppressed. The rascality of EFCC must stop. And I want to thank the EFCC for obeying the court order. They placed order on two accounts, one has N82 million, the other has N300 million. I have collected N5 million now.

“I’m not closing the accounts, but if they attack my accounts again, I will make trouble with them, big trouble. If EFCC is appealing the court jugdement that is their funeral. As a sitting governor, my immunity is absolute just like that of the President.

“They should tell EFCC to shut up. There is no authority other than the authority of the constitution of this country which I enjoy. Rubbishing the office of the governor is as the same as rubbishing that of the President because after the President, Governors are the next. It is their time now, another people’s time will come tomorrow. There is no place for dictatorship in Nigeria,” he fumed

It would be recalled that Fayose’s two accounts with the bank was on June 20 frozen on the orders of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) through an exparte order received from Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court, Lagos on the allegation that the money therein were ‘proceeds of crime’.

Fayose had on June 28 challenged the seizure of the accounts in court through an affidavit sworn to by his lawyer, Barrister Bimpe Olatemiju who prayed the court to order an unfreezing of the governor’s accounts as the EFCC’s action negated the provisions of section 308 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 amended.

Lead legal counsel to Fayose, Chief Mike Ozekhome had also fought the legal battle with EFCC’s legal counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo for seven months, after which victory came the way of governor Fayose on Tuesday, December 13 when Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court, Ado-Ekiti, state capital in defence of the constitution, ordered that Fayose’s accounts be unfrozen with immediate effect.

He held that the freezing of the said accounts by the EFCC was illegal and violates the provisions of section 308 of the constitution which confered absolute immunity on the governor as a serving state executive who cannot be tried for any civil or criminal allegations.

PoliticsAPC Sets To Punish Tinubu Over His Role In Ondo Governorship Election -DailyPost by OKDnigeria(op): 1:28pm On Dec 03, 2016
Following the conclusion of the Ondo governorship election, indications have emerged that some members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, are calling for the suspension of a National Leader of the party, Bola Tinubu, over his role in the said election.

Recall that there were reports that Tinubu was against the emergence of the Ondo State Governor-elect, Rotimi Akeredolu.

The former Lagos State governor had faulted the primary election that produced Akeredolu as the party’s flag bearer in the November 26 governorship election.

Tinubu who frowned at the election, had demanded the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, John Oyegun for insisting that Akeredolu was the party’s candidate in the just concluded election.

The elder statesman’s disapproval of Akeredolu’s candidacy could be noticed when he was conspicuously absent in the party’s governorship campaign rally in Akure.

But Tinubu said he was out of the country during the governorship campaign rally.

However, those calling for Tinubu’s punishment through suspension insist such measures would send strong signals to others party members who are planning to work against the APC.

Tinubu was accused of supporting the candidature of Olusola Oke of the Alliance for Democracy, AD.

Against the backdrop of his defeat to Akeredolu, Oke, a former member of APC had defected to the AD to contest the Ondo governorship election.

However, an aide to the former Lagos State governor, Tunde Rahman, when contacted by DAILY POST declined comment on the issue, saying, ”I wouldn’t like to talk much on this issue.”

PoliticsPetrol Should Sell At N70 Per Litre - Reps by OKDnigeria(op): 10:29pm On Nov 29, 2016
The House of Representatives on
Tuesday urged the Petroleum Products
Prices Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) to
review the current price template for
Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) with a
view to reducing the price to N70.

This followed the adoption of a motion
sponsored by Rep. Abubakar Fulata
titled “Urgent Need to Review the
Petroleum Price Template”.

Moving the motion, Fulata expressed
dismay over the circulating rumour of a
possible hike in the price of petrol in
the country.Although the rumour was
denied by the Federal Ministry of
Petroleum Resources, Fulata said it was
coming at a time when the nation is
going through difficult times.

According to him, the hard times are
occasioned by dwindling revenues, high
inflation rate, unemployment and
general fall in the standard of living of
many Nigerians.

The lawmaker noted that the current
template for the price of PMS could be
reviewed downwards without affecting
the profit margin of marketers and
transporters.

The review would also contribute to
reducing the current inflationary trend
in the economy.

“I am aware that the current cost of
freighting PMS stands at N109.1,
Lightering expenses N4.56, Nigeria
Ports Authority charges N0.84, NIMASA
charges N0.22, Financing N2.51 and
Jetty put charges at N0.60.

“Storage charges N2.00, retailers margin
N6.00, transport allowance N3.36,
dealers margin N2.36, bridging fund
N6.20 and marine transport average put
at N0.15 bringing the total cost to
N137.81,” he said.

He further informed the House that the
landing cost of PMS remained at
N119.74, while the distribution cost and
margins of marketers stood at N18.37.

“Thus, the total of both the landing and
distribution costs is N138.11, while
marketers are allowed to sell the
product within the range of N140 and
N145 per litre.

Fulata further noted that over 90 per
cent of the current price of PMS in the
country is accounted for by transport
related charges at N124.34 out of
N138.11.

According to him, foreign vessels
charge higher for lifting the PMS
because Nigerian carriers which were
supposed to lift 50 per cent of the
products lack the capacity to do so.

He faulted the NPA’s inability to dredge
the ports despite collecting N0.84 for
every litre of petrol thereby costing
Nigerian users the sum of N4.56 for
every litre of petrol they buy.

“Bridging is supposed to be an annual
event only when refineries are carrying
out their turn around maintenance
which should not exceed three months.

“However, due to the fact that pipelines
linking the various depots have been
vandalised or in a state of disrepair,
bridging has remained a permanent
feature of the oil industry in Nigeria,’’
he said.

He said that if the pipelines linking the
various depots and refineries could be
fixed and secured, the bridging fund
could be reduced to N2.00 per litre
instead of the current N6.20.

“Also a realistic template would bring
down the price of petrol to N70.04,” he
added.

The House therefore urged the NPA to
dredge all harbours within a period of
one year to enable ship dock in them.
House also set up an ad-hoc committee
to interface with the Federal Ministry of
Petroleum Resources on the review of
the price of PMS and such related
matters and report back within weeks
for further legislative action.

PoliticsMy Account Balance Is Less Than $10m – Patience Jonathan by OKDnigeria(op): 7:29am On Nov 24, 2016
Dame Patience Jonathan, wife of ex-
President Goodluck Jonathan, has denied
media reports that $175m is missing from
her bank accounts.

Patience said her account balance as of the
time it was frozen by the Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission was less than
$10m.

She, therefore, urged the media to be fair to
her and stop twisting facts.
She said this in a statement signed by her
spokesman, Mr. Sam Dokubo, on
Wednesday.

The statement added, “For the avoidance of
doubt, while indeed it is true that Dame
Patience is in court for the protection of her
fundamental rights infringed upon by a ‘No
debit order’ placed on her funds by the
EFCC, it is not for $15m but for funds less
than $10m as has been clarified several
times.

“The purported story in a newspaper on
November 19, 2016, about a missing $175m
allegedly belonging to the former first lady is
not just fictitious but plain falsehood.”
Patience said if the EFCC was looking for a
‘missing’ $175m it should ask Skye Bank
where all her accounts were domiciled.

It added, “The EFCC has not made any
statement to the existence of an
investigation of any missing $175m linked
to the former first lady.

“If any such funds as claimed, which was
deposited by certain verifiable persons has
gone missing without a trace from a known
bank, Skye Bank, as was reported, then, the
bank, its officials and those mentioned must
be held to account for the funds and not the
former first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan,
who was in no way a part of the transaction.

“The claim that the money was credited to a
company linked to Dame Patience Jonathan
is also false; otherwise it should be officially
substantiated with credible evidence by
Skye Bank and the EFCC that are jointly
mentioned in the report.”

Mrs. Jonathan threatened to sue media
houses that continue to malign her.
Patience is suing the EFCC and Skye Bank
for freezing accounts linked to her. She is
also demanding a N200m settlement.

PoliticsIf Only Dasuki, Tompolo Can Just Join APC... By Paul Onomuakpokpo by OKDnigeria(op): 7:10am On Nov 24, 2016
Shortly after Gen. Muhammadu Buhari’s jolting victory in the 2015 presidential election, some politicians obviously realised their mistake of not disavowing the then President Goodluck Jonathan and his ill-starred party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). But all hope was not really lost – they attempted to salvage their wrecked political fortunes. Some immediately denigrated their political parties and declared their allegiance to the winning party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Others were subtle. They did not want to be seen as brazen opportunists who were ready to sound the death knell of the party on whose platform they had attained socio-economic and political leverage. Thus, they declared their retirement from partisan politics. It began with former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s reported dramatic tearing of his PDP’s membership card. However, the former president was recently quoted as insisting that he never tore his card. Obasanjo’s example of retiring from politics was quickly followed by a former Chairman of the PDP, Bamanga Tukur, the political godfather of former President Jonathan, Edwin Clark and others. The only difference between these and Obasanjo was that they were never involved in the razzmatazz of tearing their party membership cards while quitting active politics.

We need not interrogate the real motive of the afore-said politicians who chose to quit partisan politics. Again, we need not reckon with the fact that Obasanjo’s action appeared to have smacked of ingratitude for abandoning the same political party on whose back he held the presidency for eight years. Let’s accept that their exit from the political space was necessitated by old age – they were only bowing out for the younger generation to take over.

But now, it is clear that self-survival is the leitmotif of the current trajectory of politicians abandoning their parties. They do not leave their parties to channel their energies elsewhere; they are still actively involved in politics and their next destination is the APC. Clearly, when the carapace of the self-serving excuse that they are joining the APC to better serve their people is broken, we are left with the discovery that these are politicians who are only fleeing to the ruling party as a refuge from probe for corruption.

Remember, Buhari has declared that no member of his cabinet is corrupt. This was what informed his clearing of his Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai of the charge of corruption for unaccountably owning assets in Dubai. This is also why despite the accused judges’ allegation that Rotimi Amaechi tried to use them to pervert justice, he is not being probed. In fact, just last week, a robust defence of Amaechi came from the chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Anti-corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay. According to Sagay, Amaechi should not resign since the charges by the judges were not only baseless, they are targeted at depriving the Buhari government of the great contributions of Amaechi to good governance.

Since it is now clear that joining the APC is a sure defence against being tried for corruption, it is not surprising that there is a continued haemorrhage of other political parties, especially the PDP, whose ultimate beneficiary is the APC. The latest decampee to the APC is a former Abia State Governor Orji Kalu. He was received with so much enthusiasm when he decamped to the APC from the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA). The leaders of the APC described Kalu as a great asset to the party whose contribution would redound to the development of the country. Kalu was even quoted as saying that he only decamped in response to the persistent wooing of the APC leaders. It does not matter to the APC and its leaders that Kalu is being prosecuted by the same ruling government for the charges of laundering about N3.5 billion. Kalu’s membership of the APC has automatically turned him into a saint since the APC is a party of saints. As Kalu rightly expects, despite the heavy allegations of corruption on him, there is the robust possibility of his being given a responsibility to serve the party or the nation. After all, were we not here when Timipre Sylva contested the Bayelsa State governorship election on the platform of the APC while he was being prosecuted for misappropriating several billions belonging to his state?

The surprise now is why some people are not availing themselves of the cleansing power in the APC. Why have these people chosen to suffer in detention when they can be free men by simply joining APC? Take Sambo Dasuki for instance. All the former national security adviser should have done since was to pledge his allegiance to the party of saints and he would have been at home in Sokoto to give his father, Ibrahim Dasuki, former Sultan of Sokoto, a befitting burial. His sinful past of capriciously disbursing over $2.1 billion to the cronies of Jonathan instead of using the money to buy weapons with which to fight Boko Haram would have been forgotten. That Ijaw fugitive from justice, Government Ekpemupolo popularly known as Tompolo should not be in hiding. He can easily regain his freedom when he identifies with the APC. His charges of stealing over N45 billion would not only be forgiven, he would be given a hero’s welcome to APC. By now, even Supreme Court Justice Sylvester Ngwuta and other judges who are being tried would have realised their mistake – they failed to identify with the APC government. But it is not too late, they can still join the APC while they are facing prosecution like Kalu and others.

The new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Walter Onnoghen probably understands this survival strategy more than them. When he was being sworn in as acting CJN, Onnoghen vowed to support the anti-corruption campaign of Buhari. Not for him the insistence on the caveat that the rule of law must be upheld in the fight against corruption. He struck the right chord with Buhari and APC when he vowed that many of his colleagues would be flushed out of the judiciary because of their involvement in corruption. And why is the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnmadi Kanu wasting away in detention when he can be free? All he needs is to declare that in the place of his much-cherished Biafran dream, he is now committed to the APC.

The presidency really understands its environment. It knows that the opposition camp is fast fizzling out. It is sure of Buhari retaining Aso Rock beyond 2019 as it declared last Monday. The presidency’s optimism is not ill founded. Consider a situation where all the leaders of the opposition are decamping to the APC, who is left to contest against the APC in 2019? Don’t mind those who think the hardship in the country would make the citizens not to vote for Buhari. And not even the rising popularity of Jonathan as demonstrated by calls for him to return to power during his visit to Sokoto would stop Buhari’s return to the presidency in 2019.

PoliticsHow The Candidates Stand In Ondo Governorship Election - Guardian by OKDnigeria(op): 6:38am On Nov 24, 2016
Strengths and weaknesses of Jegede, Oke and Akeredolu

In the next 48 hours, the people of Ondo State will be voting to pick out of 28 candidates, who becomes the occupant of Alagbaka Government House. The election will not only chart a new course for state politics but also determine, because of the preponderance of other influences, to a large extent, the direction that Nigeria politics may likely take in the march towards 2019.

And due to the unprecedented interests that the election has generated both at local and national turfs, a substantial percentage of the 1.54 million registered voters who hold the franchise for the about 3.5 million population of the state, are expected to exercise their voting rights.

Analysts said the weekend’s exercise, which has raised more dusts than similar governorship polls held after the 2015 general elections, will open new frontiers in the management of party politics and electoral litigations in Nigeria.

Two days to the exercise, the air was still not clear about the final list of candidates to feature in the polls as the much-awaited decision of the courts on the rightful flag-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) between Eyitayo Jegede SAN, and billionaire businessman, Jimoh Ibrahim, has raised tension almost to a boiling point.

Jegede however got a reprieve yesterday afternoon when the Court of Appeal, haven been mandated last Tuesday by the apex court to go ahead with the trial, affirmed his candidacy describing Ibrahim as an “impostor”.

In the All Progressive Congress (APC) which internal politics brought a lot of external influences into the Ondo sphere, a lesser degree of litigation is playing itself out as one of the aspirants, Olusegun Abraham, has dragged the candidate, Rotimi Akeredolu SAN, to court to query the legality of the primary election that produced him.

The controversial shadow election has effectively balkanized the party not only in Ondo where three of the four leading aspirants have ganged up against Akeredolu, but also at the national level where the factors that brought President Muhammadu Buhari into office are being redefined in a way to have far reaching effects on the next presidential election.

The National leader of the APC, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu who was in the forefront of the movement that succeeded for the first time in Nigeria’s history, to send an incumbent president packing and install an opposition candidate, has distanced himself from the party and allegedly backing a new horse in the candidacy of Olusola Oke, the flag bearer of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), a platform resuscitated to reinvigorate Yoruba regional politics which has produced a safe haven for the Lagos lord.

With Jegede emerging as the third leg of a tripod of contest, the race is now between him and Oke of AD and Akeredolu of APC.

Olusola Oke of the AD
After falling out with the APC as a result of the controversial primary, Oke, at the prompting of Southwest political leaders, defected to the AD, because it originated from the region and people would easily identify with it.

Across the Southwest, the AD leaders have already rallied around Oke whose acceptability is growing by the day among the grassroots population. And being former PDP National Legal adviser, Oke, who with the late Governor Olusegun Agagu sustained the party before Mimiko joined it just before last year’s election, has a solid support base in the party, which he has also brought to consolidate his soaring popularity.

The lanky politician who hailed from the small fishing settlement of Ilowo in the coastal Ilaje local council, has for years been the face of political leadership in his southern senatorial district where he is expected to garner majority of the votes next Saturday.

The alleged marginalization of the southern district by the incumbent administration, which abandoned most of the developmental projects in the area, will also boost Oke’s chances even though an associate of his, John Ola Mafo, has been picked as the running mate to Jegede.

The AD candidate is also expected to reap maximum gain from a formidable state-wide political structure that he had built since he was the Commissioner on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) when he extended projects locations to all parts of the state and which he sustained till when he gave a brilliant showing in the 2012 gubernatorial election as a candidate of the PDP and afterwards.

Eyitayo Jegede of the PDP
Although highly burdened by the distractive litigation that saw his name being removed from the candidates’ list before yesterday’s court-ordered reversal, Jegede, also a Senior Advocate is a very popular candidate particularly among the people of Akure where he hails from.

He is expected to give a good showing in the central senatorial district especially with the incumbency factor of his godfather, Mimiko, who characteristically, had been deploying all the weapons in his arsenal to achieve victory.

But like all coins with two sides, Jegede’s relationship with Mimiko, who critics alleged was trying to get a third term through the back door, could be an albatross on the younger politician’s neck.

As an out-going governor that has less than three months to distribute patronage, what he did or did not do in office are now being held against him and many are extending the “wages of the sins” to Jegede, who, until recently had been avoiding politics like a plague.

While he is expected to garner large number of votes in the central district, many electorate in the north and the south, who are averse to a retention of political authority in Mimiko’s central, are already campaigning against him.

Besides, the long-drawn legal battle with Ibrahim has taken a lot of shines out of Jegede’s campaign as many of his supporters have already pitched their tent with either of the two camps of Oke and Akeredolu.

This setback may have been responsible for the strident calls from his camp for a postponement of the election, a call that INEC and other stakeholders have rejected, to allow for a resuscitation of a campaign that was abandoned midway.

While he has only hours before the Friday conclusion of campaigns to cover lost grounds, the saying that “24 hours is a long time in politics”, could give his team the needed vigor to get back to the top.

Rotimi Akeredolu of APC
For many party faithful, the Akeredolu candidature is the best thing to happen to the state, especially when they reflect on the governance records of the incumbent.

Those who share this view always refer to his stewardship as the President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) and his roles in pursuing election petitions for the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).
But the APC primary election in which “padded delegates list” was alleged to have been used, is still an albatross on his neck while the roles northern political leaders played in the process has already created an image crisis for him.

It is alleged that he has joined forces with those calling for the head Tinubu, his benefactor who despite opposition in 2012, imposed him as the candidate of the ACN.

Many politicians in the Southwest are already viewing the roles allegedly being played by some northern governors and Tinubu’s estranged associates led by former Ekiti governor, Kayode Fayemi and Ogun governor, Ibikunle Amosun, to foist northern interests on Ondo, with disgust.

Akeredolu however has his strength in Owo where he is expected to garner majority of the votes although he has many well-known politicians as his allies across the state, a fact that had been proved by Mimiko’s trial with his former Labour Part (LP) platform as not enough to secure victory.

The Senior Advocate is however seen as someone who could raise the bar of development in the state because being a professional in politics; he would not be encumbered by political considerations that have allegedly bogged down Mimiko’s administration.

Voting Strength
A breakdown into senatorial districts of the 1,546,081 of registered voters shows that Ondo Central has 615,157, which represents 39:78 percent; Ondo North 418,926, which accounts for 27.10 percent and Ondo South 511,998 representing 33.12 percent. But the political space of Ondo State has been reconfigured among the three leading parties.

First, the people of Akoko may eventually cast a protest vote against APC especially as Abraham and Senator Ajayi Boroffice who contested the party’s primary election, have openly campaigned against Akeredolu.

There are six local government areas in Ondo North which has 418,926 registered voters representing 27.1 percent. Of the six councils, Akoko zone alone, where Abraham and Boroffice come from, has four. Also, Owo zone, which is Akeredolu’s political base, has just two.

Oke picked his running mate, Gani Dauda from Akoko, whose people still believe, were politically raped with the APC refusal to implement the report of its own appeal committee.

With 615, 157 registered voters representing 39.78 percent, Ondo Central is the stronghold of the PDP and Mimiko’s political base and with Jegede back in the saddle, the factor of Akure in Ondo politics may be more pronounced even though the metropolis is inhabited mainly by non-indigenes.

Since the creation of the state in 1976, Akure has not produced an elected governor and Jegede’s candidacy offered them much hope. Like the case of Akoko, the people of Akure may cast protest votes against the APC because it is largely believed that federal might was used to cause the initial displacement of Jegede, whom they believe, would be the first son of Akure to be an elected governor. Akure zone, which comprise Akure North and Akure South, has 302, 888 registered voters, almost half of the voting strength of Ondo North.

In the South, Oke remains a force to contend with even though it is also the district where Akeredolu picked his running mate, Agboola Ajayi. But the choice of Ajayi has generated disapproval even among party faithful because he is Akeredolu’s maternal cousin.

With 511,998 registered voters, which represents 33.12 percent of the state’s voting strength. Oke still holds the ace in the south but the dichotomy in the peculiar politics of Ilaje among the Ugbos of Constituency 1 to which Oke belongs and Mahin/Aheri/Etikan of Constituency 2, to which Mafo belongs, may have some negative effects for the AD candidate

PoliticsFG Owes Jonathan, Obasanjo, Shagari, Others 10-month Allowances by OKDnigeria(op): 11:57pm On Nov 18, 2016
The Federal Government has revealed that it has
not paid former Presidents and ex-Heads of State
including Goodluck Jonathan, Olusegun Obasanjo
and Shehu Shagari allowances since January this
year.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation,
Babachir Lawal, said this on Thursday while
playing host to the members of the Senate
Committee of Federal Character and
Intergovernmental Affairs, led by Senator Tijjani
Kaura in his office.

According to him, the former leaders have not
been paid due to unavailability of funds for the
service-wide votes for salaries of ex-presidents.

Lawal said, “There is a department responsible for
the payment of former Presidents. Presently, funds
are not available in service-wide vote to do that.
We are aware there was a protest in Bayelsa State
that the former President (Jonathan) was not paid
and we have explained that he is not the only one
affected.

“Others affected are the interreligious council,
traditional rulers’ council and so on. For some
reasons, we have been writing and writing but
there has been no response. And there is
presently no money to pay them.

“The budget for this year’s Democracy Day was
N33m and we had to do it on credit; we have yet
to pay. There are lots of retreats which ought to
be organised but there’s no money to do any. The
last time we got any release was in August.”

However, those in the know claim that the former
presidents have not received their entitlement
because President Muhammadu Buhari allegedly
refused to approve it.

According to the source, payment schedules
needed to access the funds and sent to the
President for his approval have not been treated.
The visiting senators, however, dismissed Lawal’s
explanation, insisting that joint efforts should be
made between the Office of the SGF and the
committee towards ensuring that the leaders were
paid the arrears.

The vice-chairman of the committee, Senator
Suleiman Hunkuyi, described the non-payment of
the former presidents as abnormal.

He said, “What we have seen here is an
abnormality. Before referring any matter to the
National Assembly, it is a function of the executive
to appropriate funds. Therefore, the SGF should
understand that there is something wrong in this
office that must be addressed.

“There is no way you can run the expenses of this
office without cash backing. We definitely have to
draw the attention of the Budget Office and the
Ministry of Finance to the problems.”

PoliticsTrump Will Stop Buhari From Islamizing Nigeria – Fani-kayode by OKDnigeria(op): 11:38pm On Nov 16, 2016
A former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has stated the election of Donald Trump as the President of the United States of America would help to truncate President Muhammadu Buhari’s alleged Islamic agenda.

Fani, while congratulating Trump, said he was confident the businessman would team up with Russian President, Vladmir Putin, and Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Nethanyahu, to curb terrorism worldwide.

Fani-Kayode said, “Those that came to power last year on the mantle of Islamic domination, religious intolerance and racial discrimination and that espoused the most hideous form of ethnic bigotry and religious fanaticism certainly have a lot of soul-searching to do because their friends in the Obama White House are on their way out and their darling Hilary is not coming in to replace him.

“I assure you that President Donald Trump, who I have known and studied closely for many years, will literally give them hell. Not only will he resist their constant and gross violations of human rights and civil liberties, he will also bring them to justice for their regular use of genocide against religious and ethnic minorities in our country.

“He will also confront their hidden agenda to Islamise Nigeria and turn us into a nation of ethnic and religious vassals that must bow before President Muhammadu Buhari and his kinsmen.”

Fani-Kayode recently regained freedom from the nest of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over allegations of N26 million money laundering charges.
