PoliticsThrow Back: We Don’t Have Criminal Case Against Atiku – US by OKDnigeria(op): 9:24am On Jan 19, 2019
The United States Department of Justice has denied having any record that indicates that Nigeria’ s former Vice President , Atiku Abubakar, has a pending lawsuit in the US.

In an email to our correspondent on Friday , a spokesperson for the US DOJ , Peter Carr said, “ Thank you for reaching out to us. I have checked the public court records , and they do not show cases filed against a defendant named Atiku Abubakar. ”

This was stated as a response to
SUNDAY PUNCH ’s request for information on whether Abubakar is wanted in the US in connection with any issue of money laundering .

The mail also asked the department to confirm whether Abubakar has been banned from entering the US and if there is any court case against him concerning the Halliburton scandal which resulted in the conviction of a US lawmaker, William Jefferson .

Asked if it is true that the ex - vice president ( now a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress) was banned from entering the US , the American official said the issue was confidential.

He said, “ Visa issues are confidential under section 222 ( f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act . If your question is specifically about entry – not about visas per se – I would refer you to the US Customs and Border Protection. ”

Last week , Kaduna State Governor , Mallam Nasir el-Rufai , had implied that Abubakar was avoiding a visit to the US because he might be charged with a case of money laundering .

He reacted to Abubakar’ s interview which he granted to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ’s quarterly publication , Zero Tolerance , where he had accused the Kaduna governor of corruption by offering him Transcorp ’ s shares .

PoliticsThrowback: Some Jibes Akpabio Threw At APC In The Past by OKDnigeria(op): 5:34pm On Aug 09, 2018
On Wednesday, Godswill Akpabio, two-time former Governor of Akwa-Ibom State and Minority Leader of the Senate, formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP0 to the All Progressives Congress (APC). But don’t be deceived by two keywords above, ‘democrat’ and ‘progressive’. Nigeria is no United States of America where there are clear-cut political ideologies and politicians belong to political camps based on what makes them tick politically.

In this political clime, our politicians are much of a muchness. The insatiable thirst for power drives them; the end for them is what justifies the means. That’s why political affiliations are protean, to say the least. No permanent friends or enemies but permanent interests, self-interest to be precise. Every member of a political party is a potential member of the opposition depending on where the pendulum of power swings.

That Akpabio now belongs in the APC is no news. But to buttress our point that a typical Nigerian politician is a political prostitute who goes, without compunction, with anyone that can pay his price, here is a compilation of the not too pleasant things Akpabio said of the APC while still in the PDP.

‘IF IT IS NOT PANADOL, IT CAN’T BE PANADOL’
In an interview he granted to THISDAY in 2017, Akpabio mocked the APC for performing below par even after two years in power. He said had it been the PDP that was in power, more significant progress would have been made.

“If it is not Panadol, it can’t be the same as Panadol. I believed that if it were PDP–between 2015 and 2017, we would have made more significant progress,” he said. “A lot of plans have been outlined but not much has actually been seen in terms of progress and delivering promises; most of the campaign promises have actually not been met.”

Now that he has joined APC, will he still insist that PDP will perform better in power? We’ll soon know.

APC LACKS FOCUS AND EXPERIENCE
In the same interview, he said the ruling party lacked focus and experience. He said these twin-shortcomings were responsible for the ruling party’s inability to deliver on its campaign promises.

He said: “Before you make promises to the people you must have done not just the detailed analysis of the economic situation of the government, but a review of the economic policies of the government. So, if they say they underestimated the mess created or left behind by the PDP that means they, on their own part, were not prepared for governance.”

APC IS ‘GREEDY’
In June 2016, while speaking on the floor of the Senate, Akpabio had a sly dig at Senate President Bukola Saraki, and stopped short of calling the APC “greedy”.

“You (Saraki) were jittery and sweating on that day. If we had wanted to take over the Senate, the PDP would have done that,” he had said. “We had the chance to take all the positions but because we are not greedy, we decided to allow the APC take over.”

‘APC’S CHANGE IS NEGATIVE’
Speaking at a PDP national convention in August 2017, Akpabio described the ‘change’ brought by APC as negative, and urged PDP members who defected to the APC to “come back home”.

“Our brothers who were misled into thinking they are changing party, the doors are open for you. Feel free to come back. You can come back and join us, you are always welcome,” he said. “It is time to change the change. A change that is negative must make room for positive change.”

APC MEMBERS ‘ENEMIES OF PROGRESS’
At a pre-2015 election rally at the Eagle Square, Akpabio described APC leaders as “enemies of progress” who were seeking the presidency for ‘selfish reasons”.

“Many of them are fighting selfish wars; many of them are coming out because of their personal aggrandisement; many of them are coming out trying to sponsor instability in Nigeria,” he said.

“We cannot handover the Federal Government of Nigeria to enemies of progress. We cannot hand over Nigeria to people who are trying to destabilize us; we cannot hand over our future to people who are blackmailers and propagandists.”

Well, as things stand, we can safely say Akpabio has himself now become an enemy of progress.

PoliticsHezbollah Military Training Nigerian Shiites In Lebanon – Mei.edu by OKDnigeria(op): 10:42pm On Jul 05, 2018
Hezbollah allegedly training Nigerian Shiites to expand influence in West Africa

While Hezbollah’s military expansion across the Middle East, particularly since the start of the Syrian conflict in 2011, has drawn a great deal of attention, the Lebanese organization’s efforts to increase its presence and influence in Africa has largely been overlooked. Nigeria is a case in point. Sources close to Hezbollah say the organization provides ideological and military training to Nigerian Shiites inside Lebanon.

Tall men, in long, traditional African garb specific to northern Nigeria are sometimes spotted in Dahieh, a predominantly Shiite suburb south of Beirut where Hezbollah runs a cultural center. According to sources close to Hezbollah commanders, Nigerian men receive “training courses” at this center. “The training is limited to a few number of people but it is growing steadily,” one source confirmed, speaking to the author on the condition of anonymity. “The Shiite Nigerians initially receive a religious training before a military one that is provided in two camps in the Lebanese Bekaa,” he noted.

While it may seem as something of an oddity, the proselytization of Nigerians dates back to more than three decades ago. Nigeria is home to the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, a jihadist organization founded in the early 1980s with a strong support among the country’s five million Shiite Muslims. In the wake of Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, many young members of Nigeria’s Muslim Student Society, for example, traveled to Iran and received monetary aid as well as military and religious training. The leader of the group, Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, a Sunni demagogue hailing from the town of Zaria, was initially inspired by Muslim Brotherhood’s chief ideologue Sayyed Qutb. But he later converted to Shiite Islam and became a flag-bearer for Iran’s revolution in his native country. Zakzaky believed that the establishment of an Islamic republic similar to Iran’s was potentially feasible in Nigeria. Since then, Zakzaky has had numerous confrontations with the government. He was jailed from 1981 to 1984 on charges of sedition, as he had reportedly declared he would recognize no state laws or authority except those of Islam.

The movement’s popularity also increased in the backdrop of escalating Sunni-Shiite tensions and its armed clashes with the Nigerian State. In 2015, Nigerian troops killed more than 300 Shiites in Zaria and arrested Zakzaky and hundreds of his followers. The army had accused the Shiite group of attempting to kill Nigeria’s army chief-of-staff, a charge the movement denied. As a result, the Nigerian government outlawed the IMN. Zakzaky remains in jail.

In 2016, Northern Nigeria witnessed another conflict as part of broader proxy war between Iran and Saudi Arabia. Violent clashes erupted between supporters of rival groups from the two main branches of Islam namely the Izala movement, backed by mainly Sunni Saudi Arabia, and the Shiite IMN.

Now, Hezbollah and Iran appear to be upping the ante. The increased proselytization and militancy effort by Hezbollah toward Nigerian nationals seem to be driven by local and international dynamics. “Iran has told Hezbollah that it needed to recruit and train Nigerians to establish a stronghold there so that it could serve as an operational base for the rest of Africa, mainly to thwart Israeli and western ambitions in the region,” says the source. An article published in CNN had in the past highlighted as well that IMN was providing Hezbollah-style military training to hundreds of Nigerians in camps throughout Northern Nigeria.

Another reason may that driving Hezbollah’s is linked to local calculation as its some members of its popular constituency wish to undermine rival Israeli companies in Nigeria . Some of them according to the source, appear to be allocating Hezbollah’s with funds for its Nigerian operation. The author has not been able to independently confirm the two statements, however.

Lebanese businessmen have nonetheless been linked to Hezbollah operations in Nigeria. In 2013, Reuters reported that Nigerian authorities had arrested three Lebanese nationals in the northern Nigeria’s city of Kano. The men had admitted to being members of Hezbollah and a raid conducted on the residence of one of the Lebanese led to the discovery of a large stash of weapons, including anti-tank weapons, landmines, rocket-propelled grenades, AK-47s, and some dynamite. Reuters had quoted the city’s military spokesman Captain Ikedichi Iweha as saying that the arms and ammunition were to be used for operations against Israel and Western interests in Nigeria.

However, the current training program in Lebanon for Nigerian Shiites is limited in scope, at least for now. “The training that is taking place now in Lebanon is mostly focusing on higher-ranking officers in commanding positions, who can in turn train new recruits in Nigeria, which is why the number of trainees remains limited. These trainees also generally return to Lebanon every three to six months to receive further training on more sophisticated weapons,” explained the source. But an official at the Lebanese Interior Ministry, requesting anonymity, said the ministry was unaware of large numbers of Nigerian recruits coming into Lebanon. The Nigerian embassy in Brussels could not be reached for comment.

The IMN appears to have also emulated Hezbollah’s extensive and successful propaganda and outreach programs. A Bloomberg report had noted last year that the IMN propaganda was very similar to that of Hezbollah. IMN had begun broadcasting its own internet-based Hausa radio station, Shuhada, and had plans to start a new TV channel. It also runs a newspaper called al-Mizan. In addition, the organization, according to Bloomberg, boasts more than 300 schools, Islamic centers, security guards and a “martyrs’ foundation” funded mainly by member donations. This network bears striking resemblance to Hezbollah’s welfare systems and media operating model.

Iran and Hezbollah’s drive into Africa is both geopolitical and ideological. With limited means, Iran has been able to project power and influence across regions. While majority of Shiite communities in the Middle East and North Africa are loyal citizens and refuse to accept Iranian dictates, the Islamic Republic has managed to exploit local grievances of some Shiite communities for its geopolitical ends.

Iranian and Hezbollah efforts also risk exacerbating sectarian strife in in Nigeria, which is home to a large Sunni community. Hezbollah has proven to be Iran’s successful foreign policy tool in that regard, thanks to its high military capabilities, its connections across Africa through its constituency, and its experience in foreign covert operations.

PoliticsPresident Buhari Is In A Cage! - Father Mbaka by OKDnigeria(op): 10:31pm On Jul 05, 2018
POLITICS – Latest report as Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka has described the man he supported openly to become president in 2015, Muhammadu Buhari, as one who is caged.

It is reported that Mbaka, the spiritual director of Adoration Ministry, Enugu, said this during an exclusive chat with the publisher of SaharaReporters and 2019 presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore.

“Buhari meant well for the country but I can see Buhari as a man whose ideologies has been kidnapped, I can see somebody that is bemused, I can see a man that is confused, I can see Buhari in spite of his goodwill he has some people around him that has no ideology that is in tandem with his,” he said in parts.

“When I was telling Jonathan and Co, they can’t come back instead of believing, they started attacking me and God says the chair is vacant Buhari will take over, I never knew who Buhari was. They accused me of being sponsored by Buhari and God knows until now Buhari has never given me One Kobo.

“Am not against his leadership because he has not given me anything, am only unhappy with him because he doesn’t want to make necessary changes.

“The much I know about Buhari is he meant well, but it’s too unfortunate that he is caged by people who are not telling him the truth.”

Recall that on 2018 New Year day, Fr. Mbaka who had anointed Buhari as President in 2015, asked him not to run for a second term in office. He said:
“I’m asked to advise you, don’t come out for the second tenure; after this, and retire peacefully. Come back to yourself or you will cry by the time you will be sent out of office. Those who are encouraging you to come out and run again want to disgrace you shamefully and publicly.

“The country needs change, as I said Buhari is a good man but because of a lot of factors around him, those around him are not telling him the truth, even when they tell him the truth and he gives orders they go and mutilate it and tell him that everybody is happy and that everything is moving well.

“We need God to give us someone after his own heart, who can emancipate Nigeria, because Nigeria is the heart of Africa, is the hub of Africa forget about South Africa or whatever she is doing. Nigeria is Africa because when Nigeria is good, Africa is good.”

PoliticsStop Killings In Your Country: European Parliament Cautions Buhari by OKDnigeria(op): 8:59pm On Jan 23, 2018
The European Parliament has adopted a resolution calling on President Buhari’s administration to defend its citizens from terrorism and address the root causes of the violence by ensuring equal rights for all citizens and non-discriminatory legislation.

The EU Parliament resolution (2018/2513(RSP), sponsored by 102 Members of European Parliament, MEPs in the 17-point joint resolution, expressed concern about increasing inter-ethnic conflicts between herdsmen and farmers in the Middle Belt, which it claimed had increased the security challenges in the country, noting further that the New Year day killings in Omoku, Rivers State, underlined the worrying situation of people of faith in the country.

The resolution said Christians and Muslims have increasingly been targeted in indiscriminate killings across the country.

The resolution read in part: ‘’EU Parliament is deeply concerned by the increasing interethnic conflicts between pastoralists and farmers in the Middle Belt region which have increased the security challenges already facing Nigeria, and regrets the lack of real progress in addressing these issues.

‘’Strongly condemns the increase in violence against Christians and Muslims in Nigeria, including the targeting of religious institutions and worshippers, such as the recent killing of at least 48 Christians in villages across Plateau State and the bombing of a mosque in Mubi, northeast Nigeria, in which at least 50 people died.

‘’Calls on President Buhari and the Nigerian government to increase their efforts to bring the violence to an end, defend Nigerians’ right to worship freely and protect the rights of all their citizens more rigorously, in line with the country’s laws and Constitution; extends its condolences to the families of all the victims of the ongoing violence.

‘’Recalls, in addition, that until the 1970s, the coexistence of herdsmen and farmers was peaceful and regrets that the current violence, which concerns access to land and has been exacerbated by the disappearance of effective mediation schemes, is being depicted as a religious conflict, which oversimplifies the issue.

‘’Urges the government to focus on upholding human rights and dignity in all policies to ensure peaceful coexistence among citizens irrespective of their religion, beliefs and political affiliations.

‘’Urges the Nigerian government to negotiate a national policy framework that would protect the interests of both farmers and herders and calls on international partners to increase investment in preventing and resolving inter-communal conflicts between cattle pastoralists and farmers by supporting cooperation through shared economic and natural resource management initiatives.

‘’Deplores the ongoing violence and attacks in northern Nigeria, whose targets have been Christian communities; notes that Boko Haram has attacked Muslim, Christian and other faiths indiscriminately.

‘’Notes that the Nigerian military has recaptured territory from Boko Haram and arrested some of its members, but that the Government’s non-military efforts to stop Boko Haram remain nascent.

‘’Urges the Buhari Government to defend its citizens from terrorism, but insists that such actions must be conducted in full accordance with respect for human rights and the rule of law; commends the progress made by the Buhari Government on the security challenges facing Nigeria and in addressing corruption; offers its support in achieving this objective and in seeking to sever the link between corrupt practices and terrorism.

PoliticsDele Momodu Writes Open Letter To Aisha Buhari Over Cabal In Government by OKDnigeria(op): 11:30am On Jan 20, 2018
Former presidential candidate and publisher of Ovation Magazine, Dele Momodu, has written an open letter to Aisha Buhari.

This followed her tactic support for Senator Isah Misau’s suggestion that her husband’s government has been taken over by cabal.

She reposted two videos by Senator Misau and Senator Ben Bruce, on her verified Instagram and Twitter pages.
The lawmakers openly accused President Buhari of appointing incompetent people because they “belong to the cabal”.

Her posts have attracted hundreds of comments, with majority noting that she did the right thing.
On Saturday, Dele said he has never seen any wife of a Nigerian President who would openly criticise a government in which she is a major beneficiary.

His letter reads in parts, “I’m even more surprised that you would voluntarily endorse and promote videos that criticised your government on social media. You may not know it but you’re setting new standards in our country. You shall be called a quintessential pacesetter, when tomorrow comes.
[sub][/sub]
“I have no doubt that no matter what, when all is said and done, and the present administration is long gone, you would have left behind a positive enduring legacy, an epitome of womanhood and wifely rectitude. My prayer continues to be that we will be able to say the same of your husband, our dear President Muhammadu Buhari, notwithstanding the fact that he now has little time to address and redress so many shortcomings.

“I’m certain that if your husband had listened to your wise counsel much earlier he would have, probably, averted the mess in which he is currently enmeshed.

“Your husband rode to power with so much love and goodwill, the type we’ve not experienced since June 12, 1993, when Chief Moshood Abiola won the Presidential election, fair and square. The expectations were very high, in a similar fashion, in 2015, when majority of the voters, including former critics of your husband chose to support or vote for him.

“His was a miraculous resurrection. No one expected him to waste such humongous goodwill at all and, nevertheless, not so soon after his return to power. But before we blinked our eyes, things had started falling apart. It took forever to assemble his team. And when he finally did, many wondered why they could not have been selected much earlier, given the nature and calibre of people selected.

“Indeed, it was as if Nigerians expected that your choices were going to descend from heaven and some angels were going to be appointed. The government started losing steam and stamina from that moment.

“Not just that. Your husband’s ruling Party, APC, started a war of attrition in the National Assembly. Some of his biggest supporters were suddenly pounced upon and humiliated publicly while your husband kept a straight poker face, as if he knew nothing or it was not any of his business.

“You blew me apart when you found your voice and spoke up openly and candidly and lamented the way your husband’s government was shattering into smithereens. You were in a position to know, and very right to tell the whole world, that your husband was not in charge and that if the situation continued unabated, you were not likely to support his second term bid.

“Though you were told to mind your own business at the time, the point had been made so eloquently and poignantly. Today, and looking back, it seems, you’re indeed a prophet without honour at home. Everything you said has become gospel truth.

“Today, the chickens have come home to roost. It appears the President has suddenly woken up from his slumber or maybe the mask of the evildoers has suddenly been lifted and the President we all voted for has come back from the deep.

“Our President is now under pressure to reach out frantically, and desperately, to the same people who were used and dumped after that landmark election in 2015.

“The same people you pleaded for and urged should be absorbed and assimilated into an all-inclusive government of patriots who worked to enthrone democratic principles and the change philosophy you became known as the apostle of.”

PoliticsStates To Commence Building Of Cattle Colonies Next Week – FG by OKDnigeria(op): 11:00am On Jan 20, 2018
The Federal Government says work will commence next week on cattle colonies in states that has indicated interest to establish them.

Chief Audu Ogbeh, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, disclosed this on Friday during a visit to the Agriculture and Veterinary Complex of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Ogbeh said that the National Economic Council on Thursday set up a 10-member committee comprising the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, as Chairman and nine governors to facilitate the commencement of the cattle colonies in interested states.

“We are happy that we are making progress in agriculture now.

“One of the most topical issues we have today is that of farmers and herdsmen clashes.

“If we do not deal with it quickly, we run the risk of damaging the harmony and the co-existence of Nigeria as a country. The killings are getting too many.

“In our attempt to solve the problem, we have proffered certain solutions but perhaps we were not sensitive enough to Nigeria’s fragile sensitivities and suspicions.

“When we spoke of colonies, we were immediately greeted with reactions that this was an attempt to cease Nigeria’s land and give to the Fulanis to colonise.

“The intention is not for Fulanis or anyone to colonise any territory. It is to provide a haven for cattle to graze in peace under controlled environments to prevent the conflicts between farmers and herdsmen.

“Only yesterday, a committee was set up by the Vice President with members, most of them, state governors discussing this matter and resolving that states that are interested will begin work on this matter as soon as next week.’’

The minister said that the Federal Government would engage the services of the National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI) to assist in the production of fodder for cattle.

According to him, open grazing is posing serious challenges and it is not too efficient for the cattle.
Ogbeh described open grazing as a `torture’ to cattle which usually do not enjoy long distance walks.

“It doesn’t allow us to harvest milk; the cows are not well fed. What is going on is almost torture to animals.

“If we can create a new environment for cattle, give them what they need, protect them from rustlers, the herdsmen will quickly discover that they are making far more money than what they are doing now,’’ Ogbe said.

Earlier, the Director of NAPRI, Prof. Clarence Lakpini, said pastoralists in the country had no fewer than 19.7 million cattle and 113.8 million sheep and goats which were currently grazing.

“We have a population of about 19.7 million cattle and total of 113.8 million sheep and goats. These are animals that graze and 90 per cent of these are owned by the pastoralists.

“These animals contribute a lot to the GDP of Nigeria. In fact, in the agricultural sector, it contributes 30 per cent of the National Agricultural GDP and of the National GDP, 3.2 per cent.’’

Lakpini also said that NAPRI had gone into partnership with various animal stakeholders to resolve the conflict between farmers and herdsmen across the country. (NAN)

PoliticsFani-kayode Blasts Buhari For Saying He Got Only 198,000 Votes From South-east by OKDnigeria(op): 10:34am On Jan 20, 2018
Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has criticized President Muhammadu Buhari, for declaring that he only got 198,000 votes from people of the South East.

Fani-Kayode, writing on his verified Twitter handle on Friday, also stated that Buhari did not do Nigerians from the region a favour, by giving them four ministers.

He wrote: “Buhari did not do the people of the SE a favour by giving them four Ministers: it is their constitutional right to have those positions. So whether they gave him 198K votes or no votes at all he is compelled by law to give each state in the south-east at least one Minster each.”

Buhari, speaking when he hosted All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders to a dinner at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Thursday, had said: “There is something that hit me very hard and I am happy I hit it back at somebody. Seven states of the North are only represented in my cabinet by junior ministers, ministers of state.

“In South East, I got 198,000 votes but I have four substantive ministers and seven junior ministers from there.

“You are closer to the people than myself, now that I have been locked up here, don’t allow anybody to talk of ethnicity. It is not true.”

PoliticsObasanjo Set To Formerly Withdraw Support For Buhari On January 25 by OKDnigeria(op): 10:29pm On Jan 18, 2018
There are strong indications that former President Olusegn Obasanjo will give a State of the Nation Address on burning national issues on January 25, 2018.

The address, a source at the Obasanjo Presidential Library told The WHISTLER exclusively, will outline the broad outlines of what the President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime has failed to address, as well articulate the way forward.

According to the source, the former president would formally withdraw his support for the flagging regime of President Buhari which has come under intense criticisms for its lacklustre approach to the menace of Fulani herdsmen across the country, particularly in Benue and Taraba states.

Obasanjo, who is famous for writing letters to sitting presidents, have uncharacteristically maintained a troubling silence over the poor state of affairs in Nigeria.

During the early days of this government, Obasanjo fondly called Baba, had unfettered access to the Presidential Villa and kept drumming up support for the regime which he helped to power.

However, there were signs that all was not smooth as in a presentation at Oxford University, U.K, early in the year, Baba failed to name Buhari amongst African leaders he considers are doing well.

In his delivery, he named Allassane Ouatarra of Cote d’Ivoire, Paul Kagame of Rwanda and Ethiopia’s Mulatu Teshome as presidents taking progressive economic measures and recording giant strides in line with the demands of the 21st century.

In a September 2017 interview with African Arguments, Mr. Obasanjo scolded Mr. Buhari for not doing enough to stymie the country’s growing unemployment crisis.
If “youth empowerment, skill acquisition and youth employment – education are provided, the ticking bomb of possible youth explosion out of restiveness and anger will subside,” Mr. Obasanjo told the Liberia-based publication.

Asked why January 25? The source simply replied, “I can’t say why. But Baba has a reason for anything he does.”

PoliticsFive Prominent Buhari's Former Supporters Who Have Turned Their Backs On Him by OKDnigeria(op): 1:11am On Jan 18, 2018
During the presidential campaign of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, he won the heart of many Nigerians even after winning the election, with his change mantra.

Shortly after winning the election, many Nigerians were still made to believe that positive change often comes with pain and deprivation. But in Buhari’s case, it can be said to be a different thing entirely.

The President Buhari-led administration has in its first tenure disappointed most people who vowed for his effectiveness as a nation’s leader. Among the many Nigerians who campaigned heavily for the president are some prominent persons, who also followed the change mantra established by the presidency. These prominent persons surprised many Nigerians, as the president’s administration forced them to turn their backs.

1. Dele Momodu
Having campaigned actively for Buhari during the 2015 presidential race, publisher of Ovation Magazine and former presidential candidate, to the surprise of many turned his back against the president.

On what prompted him to turn against the Buhari-led administration, Momodu said “the then President, Goodluck Jonathan and his party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, did not leave Nigerians many options and it seemed there was only one logical and rational way to go, no matter how unpalatable, and that was Buhari and his APC.”

2. Tunde Bakare
The renowned Nigerian pastor in 2011 was Buhari’s presidential running mate. The general overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly, however, shocked Nigerians with his presidential ambition declaration.

On why he accepted the proposal to file out as a running mate, Bakare said he accepted the plan to run with Buhari on the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change because of his views on restructuring. The preacher added that the president’s view then was “positive”.

3. Wole Soyinka www.nairaland.com/attachments/4092449_1_jpeg83b5009e040969ee7b60362ad7426573
In 2015, during Buhari’s election campaign, the Nigerian playwright and novelist, endorsed the presidential ambition of the All Progressives Congress, candidate.

Professor Soyinka, in an article titled “The Challenge of Change – A Burden of Choice”, stated that the “the clock of Change cannot tick sufficiently fast.” The noble laureate also joins the league of those denouncing Buhari’s second term ambition. He said Nigeria is long overdue for reconfiguration saying it is sickening for some people to be agitating against it.

4. Atiku Abubakar
The former Vice President, who used to be a member of the same political party Buhari belongs to, accused the president and the ruling All Progressives Congress of abandoning him. Atiku has over time expressed how he helped the party won the 2015 general elections.

Atiku made known that he had been abandoned in spite of his efforts in making sure that the APC defeated the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Atiku subsequently announced his formal return to PDP.

5. Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka
The Spiritual Director, Adoration Ministry, Enugu Nigeria, declared his support for Buhari, at a time when many Nigerians were skeptical if Buhari was the chosen one to take the nation to her ‘promise land’.

After making known publicly that Buhari is God’s sent, in his new year message, he warned the president against his second term ambition. Mbaka maintained that the president will be shamed should he contest in the 2019 general elections.

Would it not be a shocker if president Buhari made such call? No, don't hold your breath. It's not happening. Buhari has ordered to police chief to Benue to "keep the peace." Alas, Buhari knows the role of the police when it comes to 'his' Fulani people.

As one who campaigned for Buhari, I am full of regret. I should have sat on the fence like Wole Soyinka and Sheikh Gumi. Perhaps had Buhari not won, the revolution would have happened already and Nigeria would be free from these clueless and callous cabal.

While in this short piece, I am not reversing from my express constitutional-backed position, that the army has NO ROLE in being peace keepers within the state; this being the primary role of the police; I am as you should be too, depressed to confirm that Buhari is a vile and callous tribalist.. When it came to Shia Muslim minorities in Zaria, Buhari defended the deployment of the military to massacre and secretly mass bury 1000 protesting youth. When it came to IPOB pro-Biafrans, Buhari sent the army on operation python dance to massacre and again secretly bury dozens of youth protesters.. But when it came to 'his own' and actually my own too, I myself being a full-fledged Fulani, Buhari knows that it is the duty of police with handcuffs and the ability to prosecute, to be deployed. And this is a case where the implicated Fulani group issued a threat and is accused of perpetrating barbaric massacres and displacing over 50,000 Nigerians.

Again, in this case Buhari is unable to declare these defined terrorists as such and proscribe them, unlike the case of the Shia Muslims he loathes and the Igbos he detests, who he swiftly rushed headlong to label and proscribe.

It is a shame Buhari has proven to all that it was late Tunde Idiagbon of esteemed memory that was to be credited with all the successes of his 80s stint. Buhari has unwritten his legacy. 2019 soon cometh.

Christianity EtcSecond Term Bid: Buhari Should Respect Himself And Retire - Cardinal Okogie by OKDnigeria(op): 12:36am On Jan 07, 2018
Olubunmi Okogie, archbishop emeritus of the Catholic archdiocese of Lagos, says President Muhammadu Buhari should respect himself and retire quietly.

Although Buhari has not spoken publicly about his decision on the next election, there are indications that the president intends to stay in office beyond 2019.

On Wednesday Adebayo Shittu, minister of communications, said the campaign for the re-election of Buhari had commenced .

He also disclosed that the south-west campaign offices would be inaugurated on January 20.

Shittu spoke after meeting with the president.
There are reports that Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transportation, has been appointed as the director-general of Buhari campaign.

Speaking with New Telegraph , Okogie it is an insult to Nigerians for the president to be talking about 2019 election.

The archbishop advised Buhari to be thinking of finding solutions to the problems confronting Nigerians.
“What has he done in the years he had been in the saddle? He has performed woefully; that’s the verdict of Nigerians,” Okogie said.

“Let the president respect himself and retire quietly. Coming out to talk of 2019 is insulting not only to those who voted him to power but to all Nigerians.

“There are so many problems confronting the people and he should be thinking of what to do about them. For second term, he must be a joker.

“That is all I can say for now because I don’t want to dignify them with a lengthy statement. It is not worth it.”

PoliticsYou Betrayed Democracy, Promoted Genocide’ – Former Senator Bombs Buhari by OKDnigeria(op): 10:58pm On Jan 06, 2018
Former Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Canada and second Republic senator, Prof. Iyorwuese Hagher, has literarily torn President Muhammadu Buhari apart over his loud silence on the ongoing killing of citizens he swore to protect across the country.

Hagher, who is now President African Leadership Institute USA, in an open letter addressed to Buhari, averred that the president has betrayed the nation’s democracy and is promoting genocide.

The former minister said Buhari’s body language was a clear indication that he is in support of the pogrom going on in the country.

His letter reads.

Your Excellency Mr. President,

YOU HAVE BETRAYED DEMOCRACY AND PROMOTED GENOCIDE

I would have loved to wish you a happy new year, but I am not a hypocrite. I am not happy and nobody in Benue is happy today, because many of our citizens did not have a happy new 2018. Genocide on citizens of Nigeria has escalated in earnest in Benue State. This genocide has turned their happiness to nightmare and death. Let me also apologize for making this letter public. It is not in my character. In this case there is an emergency and urgency, which cannot wait.

I am pained that you ignored my advice in my private memorandum to you dated 30th July 2016. I had warned you of the possibility of a horrendous genocide in Benue, Plateau, Taraba, Southern Kaduna, and Southern Adamawa States. I asked you to be proactive and stop the genocide that has been ongoing but which would burst out in the open and shock the world within 18 months. Your office replied my letter on September, 28th 2016, and the reply was couriered to me in the United States, thanking me “immensely” and giving me the assurances that the advice would be heeded.

With the current situation on ground, I regret to now inform you that it is seventeen months since my warning and prediction and your government did nothing to pre-empt or prevent the genocide. The nomadic terrorists have finally accelerated the ethnic cleansing in Benue State. They have strategically moved against the Tiv, the largest minority ethnicity in northern Nigeria. These perpetrators believe that if they can ethnic cleanse the Tiv, then nobody can stand in their way to possess the land and carve a new geo-polity and demography for the middle-belt.

Now that you have allowed the genocide in the Middle Belt to go on unimpeded you have betrayed your campaign promise to Nigerians that your government ‘‘will always act in time and not allow problems to irresponsibly fester’’.

In allowing the Benue genocide to take place your government has acted irresponsibly and has allowed problems to fester and failed to act on time. You have also failed to lead from the front; giving the impression that centrifugal forces around you are dictating vicious anti-people agenda!

Mr. President, the protection of lives and property of the citizens is more important than your war against corruption! The protection of lives of citizens is the most sacred responsibility of the state and your presidency. Your government has failed woefully in this regard. Mr President there is no greater corruption than the government looking the other way while the strong bullies and kills the weak with impunity and pleasure!

Your Excellency, in your passion (monomania, I think!) to rid the country of corruption, you have totally ignored nation building and ended up with a very divided country. You have failed your immediate Northern constituency by your inability, failure or lack of the political will to end northern poverty through measures that enhance school enrolment, promote girl-child education, and revive dead industries. You became Nigeria’s president on the altar of northern unity when the northern minorities abandoned President Goodluck Jonathan to vote for you. You have now desecrated that altar. By refusing to arrest those that brutally butchered defenseless innocent Benue women and children, you have imperiled northern unity and taken sides with evil.

Many Nigerians think you have failed the country by the lack of a clear vision and a lack of capacity to provide needed infrastructure and a composite holistic development; more significantly, they think you have failed to institute a political culture of integrity. You are often compared with the lone King Sisyphus of Ephyra who was punished by the gods to roll an immense border up the hill, only to watch it roll back down, then condemned to repeat the same rolling action forever. This is the picture people have in mind of your war against endemic corruption. You honestly deserve pity and prayers, but certainly not support for a second term.

Nobody can deny that you still have a horde of admirers, which still look up to you with great admiration; however, the Benue genocide seriously questions your integrity, and your capacity to lead a plural modern state. Is there a rule of law in this country? Why does the Miyetti Allah act with so much impunity? Is this because this terrorist group claims you as their life patron? Do not accept the clamor of those who for their personal political reasons urge you to contest in the 2019 election to be a second term president! Mr. President, please rise above the impression being given that you are just another power obsessed and hungry politician!

Step aside and open the political space for another person to continue your war against corruption with a more comprehensive development program that Nigeria needs and deserves. For now, modernize infrastructure and try to banish poverty. And while your party campaigns for 2019, take a sabbatical from partisanship and build national unity, good governance and concentrate on getting rid of Boko Haram and the Herdsmen Terrorists. After all, great people are not great for winning elections; rather they are known to be great by the legacy they leave behind. With what legacy do you wish the country to remember you for? It is unfortunate that family members of those that were hacked to death will remember you as the genocide president!
Your Excellency Mr. President,

I remain respectfully Sir,
Prof. Iyorwuese Hagher. Ph.D. OON. FSONTA, FIMC, CMC.

PoliticsBuhari’s Re-election Bid Is Inhuman And Insulting - Arewa Youths by OKDnigeria(op): 8:31pm On Jan 05, 2018
For ignoring the wanton killings in several states across Nigeria and indicating his re-election bid for the 2019 Presidency, Northern youths have accused President Muhammadu Buhari of being inhuman and insensitive to the mood in the land and the plight of suffering Nigerians.

The youths noted with dismay that the second term bid declaration at a time of fuel scarcity, rising cost of living and wanton destruction of lives and property showed that the president did not care about the feelings of Nigerians.

The youths under the aegis of Arewa Youth Forum said they were alarmed that the reckless mass murder of innocent Nigerians in Benue, Rivers, Kaduna and Kwara took place at a time the president gleefully extended the tenure of all the nation’s service chiefs on account of ‘excellent performance’.

In a strongly worded mail signed by the National President of the Arewa Youth Forum, Alhaji Gambo Ibrahim Gujungu, the youths lamented that none of the killers had been and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.

The AYF said, “We are also worried that Nigerians had to go through the yuletide with agony and pains because of the fuel scarcity which still persist into the new year with the Federal government not having a definite roadmap to ending the malaise.

“This scenario was also compounded by the prevailing hardship Nigerians have been going through because of the actions and inactions of politicians and the elite who we believed have not done enough to assuage the plight of the ordinary Nigerians.

“If you add these challenges to the corruption allegations that had plagued some top ranking officers of this administration and the inability or refusal of Mr. President to address same leaves a sour taste in the mouth of many Nigerians.

“Consequently, we are appalled to hear that in the midst of all these the president and his men have already put in place measures to kick start his re – election bid for 2019.

“As the apex body of youths in the 19 Northern states and Abuja with affiliates across the country, we see the re election bid of Mr. President at this point in time inhuman, uncalled for and an insult to the sensibilities of the suffering Nigerian masses.

“On the magnitude of the killings, we expect the president to visit some of the states and when he came to Kaduna, he should have condoled with the people or even visited the affected area.

“It is disheartening that when the President visited Kaduna State, black marketers were having a field day as many of the stations where closed and the people where buying fuel at over 350/litre. This we believe is not good enough.

“Nigerians expect a more purposeful leadership from the champion of change than this anarchy in the land and the time to act is now, Mr. President,” the youths warned.

Unfortunately, Nigeria exports nothing apart from oil ,a few thousand tonnes of cocoa ,hide and thousands of people.
Pmb promised to diversify the economy. So if Nigeria exports nothing apart from oil, he has failed.

What has changed is the price of crude oil from the days $110 /barrel.
By the time 2015 election took place, crude oil had fallen to around $70/barrel. And when PMB was making his unrealistic campaign promises, the question was asked : "where are you going to get money for all these?" His reply was that Nigeria was so rich that falling oil prices was not going to affect us significantly. All he needed to do was to plug all the loop holes and we will have enough money.

Meanwhile, one of his campaign promises was to 'stabilize' international oil prices
