CareerRe: About Sap? by okeyz(m): 11:09am On Oct 24, 2009
@ SCORP, please make me understand o, so i know wat i am really going in to if its worth it, how the practice??,

Would hv loved us to network on this thing, u know, just create a small community to encourage ourselves ,
i know things will definitely be rossy at the end lets just keep ourselves prepared and ready,so that when the opportunity arises we will seize with both hands, who knows some coys might start hiring peps who r SAP certified experienced or not, cos there r no much experience guys around and the thing is rates are going up !!, and to beat cost down the certified ones without experience might be considered and tutored, ,
this is jst wat one expatriate in my coy was telling me about this SAP thing, the thing is the cert is worth having, so anything worth doing is worth doing well, lets keep our fingers crossed u neva know wat might turn up, but i believe it will be definitely something gud,

@ lawisong
its very fustrating , i cant see why one should spend 5 yrs or more in a university reading such a rewarding course only for one to come and have nothing doing , or worse still doing something that does not allign with the course u read
u r not alone , i have a many freinds that read this rewarding course ,some ve entered into the banking industry, due to non availability of rig jobs, some have lost touch of what to do,some ve changed to other fields, those that can afford it flew abroad for their masters and after that nothing is forth coming.
painfully enough this same roustabout job is been sought for evryday on oil rigs in Nigeria but what u see is filipinos and mexicans been recruited for roustabout jobs that is suppose to be mearnt for graduates of this country ,its really sad,,just go to any rig and chek the roustabouts ,they are either filipinos ,indians or mexicans ,recruited abroad to work on rigs in NIgeria, the militancy in Niger delta is no helping much as most rigs are no moved to equatorial guinea ,angola e.t.c
the local content thing is a farce, indians ve taking over our the upostream business and r recruiting their kinsmen from their country.
Only God will help us

30,000 Job Openings for SAP Consultants, SAP Official Says
InformationWeek.com, September 01, 2009 (Online)
An SAP official said Tuesday that 30,000 job openings exist worldwide for SAP consultants to support the needs of the company's 82,000 customers and their 12 million users across the globe. Speaking at an event in Lagos, Nigeria, SAP manager Jaco Van Zyl said the company hopes to begin filling some of those openings with trainees who complete "SAP e-Academy and IT certification courses" managed by a new training and education partner in Nigeria called New Horizons Systems Solutions, according to an article in the Vanguard of Nigeria. Van Zyl also said that the training offered in Nigeria is valid around the world: "It is a global certification: whether somebody gets certified in Lagos, Abuja, Johannesburg, Frankfurt or elsewhere. It is exactly the same exam, same quality." While Nigeria is not generally thought of as a stronghold for SAP expertise, it is equally true that IT offshoring has moved into a number of countries around the world that have only recently established themselves as geographic centers of global IT capabilities. So SAP's extension into Nigeria of its SAP e-Academy makes a great deal of sense, particularly in light of Van Zyl's claim that demand for SAP expertise is currently outpacing supply by 30,000 workers.

enjoy and keep working hard towards your dreams,

Felix

This is quite a good development on NL. Is season Directional Engineers allow to make contributions.

[/quote]HI salam12, ur contributions are most welcome, directional drilling is one of the toughest aspect of drilling, mostly used for marginal fields, but it has been made simplified by new technology, please feel free to give ur input.
@ outstrip grin
Wow this is really helpful. I was drilling a whole in the wall today to hang a new painting and I busted a huge hole in the wall. This drilling engineer work no easy o. Any tips on fixing this hole is welcome.

Just kidding. Back to the fashion section

any hole is a hole just use cement and gravel to plaster it, thats all!, see there is really nothing to it.

just my 2 cents!

Dr Ferlie:
Okeyz,

It will be easier for you to come in as a Completion Engineer based on your previous experience in well completions and workover.

I will let you know of any opportunity as soon as possible. what part of completion were you involved before?
Hi Dr, i didn,t see this question b4, so i will answer, i was involved in FRAC process using coiled tubing, acidizing of carbonate zones to stimulate the well and gravel packing.
i was also involved in hole casing and perforations.

rite now i am worKing with an inspection company, that does inspection of barges, cargoe ships, NDT stuff and the like,

but i really want to get into the upstream main stream activity like drilling and completions, i am a completions man when i was with my former company,b4 the owner went into politics, and since then i find it difficult to get back in even with my experience(not much though) about 4-5 years,

they keep asking for wellcap and iadc certificates and no company is willing to train you for such certificate ,and the training is quite on the high side financially ,and one gets to renew it every 2 years,, so if one does the training and does not get a job b4 the thing expires where does that leave me,
well i still need to do the training and get the cert since thats the in thing for drillers these days,

sir any leads that can helpm me in that direction ??, i will really appreciate it

thanks sir for prompt comment, actually i really love drilling but due to lack of proper info on how to get started again i decided to delve into other areas, but with mentors like u around i am thinking of going back,
anyway there is this website www.wellcontrol.com that does well control online and they still issue wellcap certificates but i don t know how effective the training would be, please i will be more than grateful if i can have the address for the well cp training , also will the certificate give one the egde to get a drilling job both withinm and outside nigeria?
thanks for ur response,

nice thread!! @ Dr ferlie and co, i have been longing to see this thread on NL ,was wondering if there is any hope for the profession in Nigeria, most of tghe drilling jobs are been taken by indians and filipinos, even as roughnecks which is very bad for th petroleum engineering graduate in niaja.

I have been involved in drilling and completions and i love the job,i was wondering if there is any hope of getting back in to the field as most coy have started asking for wellcap certificates!!, which is indeed difficult to get in Nigeria cos most coys send their staffs abroad to get certified, This forum is a nice way to share experience and challenges and give information to newbie drilling engineers and those that have interest in entering the field, the field is indeed very rewarding but its not a job for the faint hearted and lilly livered cos there are lots of risk involved,

Dr ferlie and abbeydot i greet once again kudos to y'all ,lets get the crude pumping
out their reservoirs!!
