The rail line that passed behind my uncles house at Ebano Tunnel Estate, in Enugu was totally reconstructed by Chinese company that handled that project. We used to watch them work and it is more tedious and capital intensive than road construction. The rails were messed after 30yrs of neglect.

Now we have rail from Lagos to Kano, PH to Enugu, crossing many state to even Maiduguri. So the cost of those rail maintenance is also poo?

GEJ budgets 1bil for feeding aso rock, APC wails, every body wails...PMB took 2.2 bil for 4 days jamboree to US no body is wailing.

Now some body should tell Buhari that is GEJ's idea to curb corruption in civil service. During ur new national broadcast commend him don't wallow in castigation alone.

It took the vision of one youthful leader to bring back the railway cooperation. It can only get better if PMB continues improving it. GEJ has laid necessary platform for modernization of Nigeria...my fear is that APC/PMB is not demonstrating a clear road map. In as much as it is difficult to determine the poorest Nigerians, it is also not easy to account for the number that actually gets what...else politicians will divert the lot as usual...and rather volunteer to serve jail terms.

The gullible believes the proponent of this policy and the APC media propagandists that "this would be a new and most effective social welfare aimed at reducing poverty" for me it is not true, in fact it is watering down of know standard or in their own language a negative CHANGE.

Obj lead PDP government introduced poverty eradication programme, later renamed poverty alleviation...the same programme was capture under sure-p and continued during GEJ tenure. In fact during Obj era N10,000 was paid to people under the scheme in LGA's and farm implement like wheel barrows was distributed. In GEJ era menial and non skilled jobs was given under sure-p in LGA's on contract bases and salaries up to National minimum wage was given.

Don't be deceived be guided, demand for genuine CHANGE.

That is the news I want to hear...not sham Chanji. Governors with vision are in mission for development. If he stays 8 yrs without distraction he can achieve this and the rest of both industrial and infrastructural need of the state with fall in.

It doesn't matter if it is APC or PDP what we need is 2 successive Governors to do 2 consecutive tenures each and every state will develop. Nigeria has a lot of material, Natural and Capital resources to brake even.

Let the regions eg SE and SS develop a common trust fund for development.

Big lie!!!! I don't know about Abia but in Enugu, state employed civil servants gets their pay on 25th dot, since 3 years now, last month has since been paid. Pensioners are been owed for last month currently.
There is also serious infrastructural development going on in Enugu State. Go to Enugu thread on NL and see for yourself.

APC will slash tariffs on imported cars -Osinbajo

FEBRUARY 11, 2015 : OLUWOLE JOSIAH

Vice Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has assured that the General Muhammadu Buhari government will slash tariffs on imported vehicles.

He said, “We do not agree that there should be high tariffs on imported cars whether new or old ones because Nigeria is not producing cars for now.

“What we will do first is to fix power and encourage local production of cars. But before then we will reduce the high tariffs that Nigerians are paying to import vehicles into the country.”

Prof. Osinbajo argued that Nigerians should not find it difficult to purchase cars for their socio-economic activities, and the APC government would ensure lower tariffs when voted into power.

He lamented the unemployment situation in the country, saying that as an emergency measure, the APC government would cooperate with states in creating 20,000 jobs annually in the country.

He said corruption would be stopped so that resources would be available for development projects.

He said under APC government, it would be criminal not to pay pensions, saying the law that would be put in place would compel employers to ensure pensioners got their entitlements as soon as they retire.

Osinbajo added that the job creation strategy would involve making loans available to small businesses with little or no interest.

Confusion at ports as FG increases import tariff

There was confusion at the Lagos ports on Wednesday as importers and clearing agents had difficulties clearing their goods following the implementation of the Economic Community of West African States’ Common External Tariff.


Importers claimed not to be aware of this development, said many of them were asked to pay double what they use to pay as tariff on imported materials.

They also said the tension generated by the rate adjustment was heightened on Monday and Tuesday when they could not assess the Customs online portal.



Details of the new tariff show that a zero per cent duty is payable on goods imported under social and necessary items category; five per cent on raw materials; 10 per cent on intermediate goods; and 20 per cent on finished goods not produced locally.

Osunkwo also said in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents that while 35 per cent rate would be paid on imported used vehicles, 70 per cent had been imposed on new vehicles to encourage auto industries to assemble vehicles locally.

According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer, NCS, Mr. Wale Adeniyi, the new tariff comprises an Import Adjustment Tax list, which involves additional taxes on 177 tariff lines of the ECOWAS CET; and a national list consisting of items whose import duty rates have been reviewed to encourage more development in strategic sectors of the economy.

It stated that the Comptroller-General of Customs, Abdullahi Dikko, had directed the immediate enforcement of the tariff provisions by all Customs area commands and urged all stakeholders to comply.

He also allayed fears about fresh port congestion resulting from the ECOWAS CET implementation, noting that there were usually initial teething problems at the start of any policy.
