Frank-C:

You forgot to mention that he also actually flagged off the contruction of the Second Niger Bridge without a design or contract. He practically rented some contractor equipments for few hours and did his thing before the camera.

No serious President shoudl fail to make reasonable impact in the electricity sector after spending $16b in a period of 8 years.

On GEJ, don't forget that Yar'Adua cancelled the power projects when he listened to house of reps probe report and decided to be a 'servant leader'. Technically speaking, GEJ started those power projects.
Sir, yar adua didn't cancel but suspended the projects. As a matter of fact, al d NIPP projects were started by d Obasanjo administration(during his 2nd term I guess) D excess crude acct(belonging 2 d 3 tiers of govt.) was used 2 fund them. When yar adua took over, he suspended d projects, sighting d rule of law, since d money does not belong 2 d FG alone. It was when Jonathan took over dat work resumed on d projects. On d billions of $s expended by Obj., If I can remember vividly, d probe panel truely concluded dat there was nothing significant 2 show at d project sites, not dat moneys were not expended. For instance, during d probe,it was discovered dat d turbines 4 Alaoji plant(Abia state) had been delivered 2 d country(several months b4 d probe started) via an eastern port, but could not be moved 2 site because a bridge needed 2 be constructed at a point on d route 2 d project site. My point is, as much as Jonathan deserves commendation on d ongoing power sector reforms, we need not distort facts about his achievements. U might want 2 check out dis link 2 correct d impression u av on d amt actually spent by Obj's regime on d NIPP https://www.nairaland.com/246811/fg-obasanjo-only-released-3.08

Let me also mention dat the 2005 power sector reform act(on which d entire power sector privatisation process is based) was initiated, and passed into law during Obj's tenure

Politics / Re: Where Is Tinubu? by ol2012: 7:01pm On Aug 18, 2013
james_ibor: Any observer would have noticed that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu the national leader of the newly registered APC has been missing for a couple of weeks now. Meanwhile, the News media has been silent on his whereabouts. Had it been Patience Jonathan, Saharareporters and Nairaland would have been awash of how she was flown out in coma to a German hospital.

The truth from what I can gather is that the man is ill and seriously I'll for that matter. I asked a friend of mine who is a die hard disciple of Asiwaju and also close to him about the state of his health, his countenance changed and he shook his head and said 'Only God can save him now' and went ahead to say that the PDP people want to kill the man.

All I can gather is that all is not well with Asiwaju health wise. I wish him a speedy recovery and more power to keep the opposition alive so as to keep the government of the day on its toes.
But why would ur friend blame PDP 4 d bolded? Anyway, ur observation is true about Mr. Tinubu's absense from public functions lately. Al I can do now is wish him speedy recovery
Politics / Re: Ogun Plans Africa Tallest Building by ol2012: 1:31pm On Aug 17, 2013
PHIPEX:

Whoever has not been inside some of these high rise buildings at Marina and see the number of vacant rooms will not understand the importance of your observation.

For a place like Abeokuta, building the highest structure in Africa shouldn't rank among top 5 priorities. I have been there and I know that it's in dare need of upliftment structurally not just a status symbol. A place like Marina in Lagos can dream of such because building a 60 storey building in a place where the closest building in height is not more than 12 storey wouldn't be too beautiful to behold nor economically wise. If such money is used to build more malls and the likes it could make more economic sense and attract more people to the town than having the tallest building. I heard the Governor is doing better than his predecessors but until I hear that he has taken care of that major road that enters Agbara Industrial Area I'll reserve my applause.

Sir, ar u by any means saying d Ogun State Govt. should compel a MALAYSIAN investor 2 BUILD MORE MALLS & D LIKES? Do u really understand d concept of PPP in infrastructural devt.? Always try 2 carefully read & digest publications b4 commenting, especially in a public furum like NL.

did the president the rule of law when he suspended him?did the president have the powers to unilaterally suspend the president of the appeal court?did the president get the required 2/3 majority in the national assembly?did the president make any move to calm the storm?did the president follow the constitution in appointing the Ag president of the court of appeal?section 238(5) explicitly states that the interim president of the court of appeal cannot hold office beyond 3months and that after expiration of the 3months,the person cannot be reappointed.did the president follow that?

it was clear that president jonathan didnt want justice salami at the court of appeal.the NJC itself didnt have the required number to recommend his suspension.but as it has been shown,in president jonathan's school of arithmetic,16 is greater than 19 and 5 is 2/3 of 32
Not three(3) months, but six(6) months sir. Yes, d president initially reappointed Dalhatu, but as soon as d NJC notified him of d illegality of his action, someone else(Bulkachuwa) was appointed instead(http://www.punchng.com/business/jonathan-appoints-bulkachuwa-as-acting-president-court-of-appeal/). I really do not see d culpability of Jonathan in dis Salami issue.
Politics / Re: Justice Ayo Salami Retires by ol2012: 1:39pm On Jul 26, 2013
take dat: ^ grin grin grin

Did Salami not have cases in court before the President accepted the NJC recommendation to suspend him with the speed of light? Is it not hypocritical for the president to tie his recall to cases pending in court? So it wasn't subjudice to suspend him?

NJC's rescission of the suspension of Salami was greeted with wide acceptance in the legal profession community and outside it. Groundswell of public opinion, newspaper editorials did not sway the president to assent to his recall. High Wire Politics and Politics of Self-Preservation, because he and his party had partisan interest in Salami's case.
Salami went 2 court after his suspension, ie after Mr. President endorsed NJC's recommendation on his suspension.

D truth is dis thread is now useless, no point commenting here, everyone is now selfish, Personal interest only.
U nailed it bro. D root cause of d current state of dis thread is simply selfishness/personal interest. More worrying is d fact dat both sides of d divide are guilty of same. Just as others av mentioned earlier, HR decides who gets called 4 each TS session(using dier own parameters) not hopefuls' wishes. D Ibadan & Calabar hopefuls' case should av thought us al a lesson, dat DB's invitation 2 TS is simply UNPREDICTABLE, our wishes notwithstanding. I'll advise every1 2 concentrate more on preparing 2 successfully scale tru d stage(s) ahead, instead of dissipating useful time/energy on forcing down our wishes on fellow hopefuls.

Kind Regards(Sirs/Madams)

On a lighter note, I'm also enjoying d pregnant hopefuls' gist oh!

Politics / Re: The State Of Lagos-badagry Express Road. by ol2012: 4:33pm On Jun 12, 2013
Delafruita:
first, the road is not a state road.it is a federal road.the lagos state government should be applauded for even making efforts to take over the road.

it was initially agreed between the yar'adua and fashola administrations that the road will be a joint project between the federal and state governments.however, the federal government reneged on the agreement.the lagos state government went ahead to start making preparation to do the road and were taken to court by the federal government who insisted work shouldnt be done on their road.the issue was eventually resolved and lagos state govt applied to the world bank for a loan which was to be disbursed in 3 tranches with the federal government standing as the guarantor.the first tranche was disbursed and work began.when the second tranche was to be disbursed, the government withdrew from standing as guarantor stating that states were now barred from receiving foreign loans, funds were no longer available to speed up work and the work schedule had to be re-arranged while the government sought other sources of funding for the road.that also informed the reason for CCECC been asked to go beyond just the rails into the road as against julius berger which was more expensive.

i live in ijanikin and know the horror of that road.and for a while my routes have been structured to avoid it in favour of the lasu-isheri expressway.but i think if we're to pile pressure on anyone,it should be the federal government whose duty it was in the first place to do the road
Mr brother, ur post vividly captures what I also heard about d road. D annoying thing is dat our FG prefers 2 waste public funds on a 550km Kano-Maiduguri expressway dat has maybe less dan 100 vehicles passing tru it daily. Dis is a road I'm sure should not be more dan 50km even up 2 Badagry. A few months ago, Fashola was at d House of reps, pleading wit members 2 intervene in d world bank loan issue. I just wonder d impression citizens of Ghana & other neighbouring countries, who come in2 d country thru d road av about our govt.
