Nairaland / General / Re: Will Lagos Roads Ever Be Agbero Free Again? by ol2012: 10:31am On Oct 20, 2013
Boss13: When Fashola declared that he would transform Lagos to a mega city, I could not hide my joy because my belief was that these area boys will be chased off the street. However, this is not the case. The number of area boys has increased exponentially, the menace they create on a daily basis is absurd and the ever working governor has turned blind and deaf towards eradicating these nuisance off our streets.

Now I begin to wonder, what kind of mega city is the governor trying to create - one with potential criminals on the roads? What are the economic and social benefits in having miscreants on our roads? Why is Fashola not doing anything about it and does he intend to blame the FG for area boys?

These boys have no business with our roads. If their aim is to collect levies, there are a thousand and one ways to get these levies.
The bolded perfectly captures my thoughts. The confidence with which they operate, makes me feel they enjoy the tacit support of govt.

I'm not sure there are non-yoruba agberos in Lagos. This thread is about Agberos who extort money from commercial transporters, while the story in the link you posted is about Ajegunle area boys

Nairaland / General / Will Lagos Roads Ever Be Agbero Free Again? by ol2012: 5:16pm On Oct 19, 2013
The menance of lazy individuals who extort money from commercial drivers/conductors is fast becoming a culture in Lagos. The commando style of operations of these urchins(some now usually dressed in uniform) always keep me wondering for how long the LASG will continue to feign ignorance of this anomaly.
I sometimes watch helplessly, how these drivers/conductors are harrased if they refuse to part with their money; how their vehicle wipers, side mirrors, tyre covers etc are brazenly vandalised and sometimes(rarely though) how these conductors get beaten up by the almighty AGBEROs in broad daylight.
Commuters apart from getting delayed in the process are the ones indirectly funding the payments made to these lazy bones, since a fare that should ordinarily cost #100 for example is charged #120 or #150(when payment to AGBERO is factored in)
Personally, more worrying is the fact that this Lagos AGBERO madness seem to be spreading gradually to other neighbouring SW states.
Dear NLs, in the even government continues to ignore the atrocities of these individuals, what can the helpless transport workers in particular, and Lagosians in general possibly do to stop this injustice?

You asked a dumb question and I qualified it as such. Why ask the state to take care of what's still part of federal monopoly? Why not first ask them to release their unproductive hold and then see what we can do?

What kind f silly and rretarded question is this? It's like saying states we can have their own power transmission grid when in fact it's still against the law for such to happen?

Why not first tell the dullard to let go the rail system and see what we can do?

In fact, shouldn't common sense tell you that for the man to spend his state's money on locomotives and coaches and even pay the useless and worthless federal government to repair their own stations in Osun, he 's capable of making a huge difference given the right and opportunity to do so unlike the clowns in Abuja spending billions every year on Ogbanje 1925 coaches that can not move cargo from Lagos to Kano without dying.

The only thing they control is the rail the trains ride on, the locomotives belongs to the people of Osun state, Osun state is paying for the free rides, not your worthless and incompetent retardeen.

1. Is retardeen paying for the rides?

2. Are they riding on retardeens locomotives or Aregbeshola's

3. Did retrdeen pay for the stations

4. Why didn't retardeen offer Nigerians free train rides and why must you credit your retardeen for other people's financed worthy gestures?

5. What about your village governors? What good and Godly gestures are they offering the Muslim folks in their states

All you losers do is claim and do attach because you have nothing to show from your Retardeen elebeleshuku oponu jonadafty..

Politics / Re: Comparing Legacies - Obasanjo Vs Goodluck Jonathan by ol2012: 2:07pm On Oct 08, 2013
gazilion: I just discussed with two of my colleagues during lunch today on President Jonathan's legacy or would be legacy after leaving office. Comparing him with our ex-president OBJ, I did point out 6 things that would remain a legacy and which positively impacted on the lives of virtually all average Nigerian families. I understand OBJ spent 8 years in office but with Jonathan's first term, any hope he'll surpass the legacies below?

Firstly, Obasanjo introduced and liberalised the use of the GSM. Prior to this, telephone - whether land or mobile was almost exclusively for the rich.

Secondly, it was under the Obasanjo leadership that Nigeria's debt got written off in the Paris Club.

Thirdly, it was Obasanjo who bravely retired all Military men in the Nigerian Army who had tasted or held any political office.

Fourthly, it was also under his leadership that the Nigerian banking institution got brilliant reformations (although with some lapses) - This reformation stopped the total collapse of the financial institution in Nigeria during global financial melt down.

Fifthly, under OBJ Prof. Dora Akunyili of NAFDAC brought back in Nigeria the integrity of pharmaceutical drugs and fought vehemently without ethnic colouration, the barons importing fake drugs in Nigeria.

Finally, the fight against corruption under OBJ's leadership did have some bite. Whether it was used in hunting political opponents or not...it did have some bite and we are all witnesses that since the exit of Mallam Ribadu, the anti-corruption institution has virtually lost her voice and temerity.

I'm just thinking aloud, what will president Jonathan's Legacy be?

Please, let's discuss with a sense of decorum without insulting one another including calling our leaders Obscene names.
While I disagree wit u on d 1st point(GSM) since it was initiated by late Abacha, let me quickly add 2 d other points u listed d following

2004 PENSION REFORM ACT - Dis vital legislation enacted during OBJ's tenure has made it possible 2 access retirement benefits wit effortless ease once ur employer opens RSA account 4 u at d point of employment. Economists would analyze how a cheap source of long term funds like dis gradually galvanizes a nation's economy.

2005 POWER SECTOR REFORM ACT - Those who ar always quick 2 appropriate al d improvements in d nation's power sector 2 d current administration should realize dat OBJ's govt laid a very solid foundation on which d present govt is building. Not only was d act initiated and passed in2 law during his tenure, D NIPP(An all encompassing line of projects wit generation, distribution and transmission components) as well as pipelines 4 gas supply projects were initiated by his(OBJ) govt. Infact, if Late Yar adua did not suspend d NIPP during his tenure, some Nigerians might av been enjoying constant power supply by now.

NHIS - D National Health Insurance Scheme is anoda legacy of OBJ which d current governor of Edo state once publicly commended d FG for while he was NLC Chairman. Oshiomole publicly acknowledged d scheme as a dividend of democracy during d launch of d scheme.

While OBJ should not be seen as a saint, I strongly believe he laid some very good foundations 4 critical sectors of d economy which will only be felt in years 2 come.

Religion / Re: Is It Wrong To Worship In One Church And Pay Tithe In Another Church? by ol2012: 3:43pm On Sep 29, 2013
It really amazes me how dis issue keeps coming up everytime on dis forum. Everything a christian needs 2 know about tithing is clearly spelt out in three scriptures: Deut 14:28-29, Neh 10:38 and Mal 3:10 among several others. Now al christians ar required to pay tithe(Mat23:23, Lk 11:42) but ar categorised into two: 1.) Levites who ar required to bring tithes to the house of our God(Neh 10:38) and 2.) Other Christians who are required to pay theirs to the Levites, the stranger, the fatherless and the widow(Deut 14:28-29) I strongly believe Mal 3:10 applies to only levites as clearly pointed out by Prophet Nehemiah in Neh 10:38. Those who claim dat all tithes should go to churches only so dat devourers may be rebuked , have u ever wondered why atheists and muslims who ar great philanthropists enjoy d blessedness of devourers being rebuked, yet they don't pay tithes to churches.

Ferd et al, I commend u & odas 4 d gud work u ar doing on dis thread. May God bless u richly. Pls I nid ur advise on an issue. I registered 4 a course(MBF839) last semester, attempted 3 TMAs scoring29/30. I however missed d course's exam due 2 an urgent cal from my place of work on exam day. I didn't bother 2 do d 4th TMA since I didn't write exams.

After registering my courses dis semester, I tried calling 4 d TMAs of MBF839 2geda wit dat of d just registered courses. I was suprised 2 av only one(instead of four) TMA 4 MBF839 in my portal(I guess d only one I didn't attempt last semester). On discovering dis, I sent a mail 2 tma@noun.edu.ng & thereafter sent 2 reminder mails last week. Up till now my mail av neither been acknowledged nor replied & d missing TMAs ar yet 2 be added on my portal.

Now my question is, what do u suggest I do now - I wouldn't want 2 be scored over 30 with just one TMA dat is 10 mks.

Is been long FG is trying to free up the space in electricity generation and distribution for investors to come in , but look at how long it has taken just to pay off the PHCN workers.

I wud like to hear how they intend to achieve that. Are they going to continue from where GEJ stopped( in that case GEJ is doing something right in that angle), or will they map out another way as is typical with Nigeria politicians- which always want to start their administration by pushing aside every policies and actions undertaken by their predecessors. They shud tell us how to achieve that. Else this is total hogwash.
God bless u bro. I totally agree wit u on d bolded. Wit d way d present govt is driving d power sector reforms, infact 40,000MW might be achieved in less dan 4yrs(once d private sector fully takes over d generation subsector of d power industry) We al ar witnesses 2 how our country moved from 1/2 a million phone lines(under NITEL) 2 several million lines after a few yrs. If dey tel us how they intend 2 achieve 40,000 in 4-8yrs, I believe Nigerians would av a basis 2 compare them wit d present govt.
