I'm to offer ACC101, ACC121, ECN103, ECN101, BUS103, POS111, GNS111 in 1st Semester. Do u hav any advice 4 me on any of d course code above.thx
@big_bug_ben I believe you had offered all courses listed here as a biz admin student excluding ACC121 and ECN103. I knew nothin of ACC121 cos I'm not obliged to offer it as an Economics student.

The main topic : ECN103
During my first few weeks on campus, I was told by a final-year student "Beware of ECN103. The best students usually have B." So I doubled my efforts towards it and try to read more than I need. The lecturer otherwise known to students as "Baba 40" is a "nice man" because hardly will you find students that failed his course but majority of them will be between the range of 40-49. Nobody have A in the course last session.

Things you can do
1. Expect no test for the course but one or two assignments which would be used as the test (many who doesnt realise this take those assignments with levity and they have to pay the 'price'). Don't take assignments with levity (it's your test).
2. Expect few lectures (we have 5 last session) with no notes but a material/handout (same as last session) which would be explained by the lecturer during lectures. Read more than that material.
3. Expect realistic questions in your exam (last session we are asked "what can govt do to reduce poverty" in a statistics exam).

Though majority of students are yet to realise how to utilise Etranzact, you can use your etranzact for a variety of things (buy recharge cards, shop online, transfer to your bank account, pay bills, etc) which I have done several times. Go to www.etranzact.net to see how you can use your card number to create an online account.

The Fresher's Hostel Accomdation Registration should either be done online or to take place in d Student Affairs Unit (adjacent d male hostel entrance) since it is most likely dat d list may be late. 1. The Senate decides what to be paid as school fees (Unilorin school fee for freshers currently stood at N28,750.00 but the faculty and minor charges vary for different departments).

SportsOur Players Will Not Excel Abroad Unless They Get Education -taribo by oladayo042(op): 9:24am On Sep 18, 2010
Former Inter Milan and Super Eagles defender, Taribo West, has warned that Nigerian players who move abroad will continue to experience difficulties in attracting the best clubs unless there is a collaboration to help their development before they leave the country.

But West is confident that football is still the most effective unifying factor in Nigeria despite the challenges the game is experiencing in the country. West said on Wednesday in Lagos, that football fans had the right to be angry when they no longer experienced joy in watching their teams and that heroes could quickly turn to villains.

He said, ”It (football) is still the same symbol of unity in Nigeria, but people are not happy just because the results are not coming the way it used to be. The fans will naturally not see the players as heroes, but I think football is still the unifying factor in Nigeria.”

West defended his opinion by revisiting the acceptance of the female teams, who are doing well, adding that the men‘s teams would do well only if the right people were in charge.

”Take away your mind from the disappointment of the World Cup where the Super Eagles did badly in South Africa. Let‘s look at the successes of the Falconets in Germany, where they reached the U-20 World Cup final before losing to the hosts,” says West.

”Let‘s also put our mind on what our girls have done in the women‘s U-17 World Cup going on in Trinidad and Tobago. All this is coming immediately after the men failed in South Africa. You will see that Nigerians‘ reaction towards their heroes has not changed, but when the results are not coming, it is natural that people feel sad.

”To ensure that people are happy always, especially when a competition is going on, we need to look at the reasons why our male teams are not doing well. Ghana went to the grass roots to bring up young players and re-organise their soccer. We all saw the results in Egypt where they won the U-20 World Cup and how those boys reached the final of the Africa Nations Cup in Angola and quarterfinals of the World Cup. When you do the right thing, everything falls into place.”

With some ex-internationals returning home to set up football academies and seek position on the board of the Nigeria Football Federation, West said it was the beginning of better things for Nigerian football, warning however that it could take some time to see the result.

”I am happy that everybody is being involved in the re-organisation process. It may be tough but things will be normal after some time.

”There are challenges in football development and that is why you need to have the right people in the administration of sports in every country. We need those who understand the concept involved and how to do it,” he adds.

One of the reasons for the nation‘s football woes, according to the former Julius Berger defender, is inadequate security at match venues.

”Our stadiums are no longer filled with spectators, but I believe that if we improve on the security at the match venues, people will come and watch. Players don‘t give their best in an empty stadiums. Let‘s approach the relevant security authorities and discuss it with them. People love to watch live matches, but they need protection; when they don‘t get it, they stay indoors and find joy in other things,” he says.

Reacting to the sharp drop in the success of young players who move to Europe, West reasoned that having the talent was not the total ingredient of a successful football player, adding that great heroes were made after several efforts of different people.

”There is no plan for the development of our young players and that is why they don‘t do well when they go out. Someone needs to monitor their movement and talk to them on the right path to glory. Players reject lucrative deals sometimes if it will hinder their future development,” says West.

”There must be an agency where experienced players will act as a guide to young players by sharing football experience and building their character. In the phase two, you need to make players understand that there are hard times ahead on the way to the top.

”Make them understand how to deal with the trials and get the positive support. We have talents here but no schooling and when it happens like that, a promising talent will get to a stage and start going down early. There is so much life out there especially for players who make money early, but once they get involved, it will signal the beginning of a premature end to their career.”

CrimeGunmen Kill Policemen, Workers, At Mtn Tower In Aba by oladayo042(op): 9:22am On Sep 18, 2010
A site report received by Saharareporters says that unknown gunmen today in Aba, Abia State, slaughtered a team of engineers, driver and policemen working on a mobile phone tower belonging to MTN, the Nigerian mobile phone company.

Full Field Report:
This is to inform you that our team of engineers went out to work at Gabby Oil Aba Road Aba, Abia State and while working on the generator four gunmen walked into the BTS site while the team of engineers was waiting for the RBS to load after bringing up the generator and held them at gunpoint.

It was also recorded that the team met some Ericssion engineers on site working on the transmission link- one Ericssion engineer, one driver, two mobile policemen, a rigger on top of the tower as well as the site security guard.

The gunmen asked for PETROLSEAL car key, but apparently couldn't get it because the person with the car key went to the hood to use the toilet. The four gunmen, still holding everyone at gunpoint asked for the car key inside the BTS site and immediately the PETROLSEAL engineer told them that the person in possession of the key went out to buy something and knowing fully well that the Mopol was inside the shelter alongside the Ericssion staff and PETROLSEAL staff the gun men felt threatened and opened fire on everyone in the BTS site, and also came outside and shot the rigger on top of the tower while the other Ericssion engineer and his driver hid behind the RBS units in the site, so the fired bullets missed them.

The armed robbers came outside the shelter an saw one of our Petrolseal staff (AC TECHNICIAN) and demanded for the car key, the technician told the gunmen that he didn't have the car key on him, so they collected the key that he had on him which was the site key- 1 Abloy and 1 CISA Key. They went into the car and tried to use it to start the car but couldn't. Then gunshots were heard from afar. It was a group of mobile military men coming their way so the robbers ran away.

The AC technician, the Ericssion engineer and the driver were the only survivors of the sporadic firing, while six others (ONE PETROLSEAL ENGINEER, TWO MOPOL MEN, THE RIGGER AND THE SECURITY MAN) were killed outright while the second Petrolseal Engineer died on arrival at the hospital. All bodies have been taken to the mortuary.

Politics2011: Inec Takes Measures To Safeguard Website by oladayo042(op): 9:20am On Sep 18, 2010
The Independent National Electoral Commission has started taking steps to address the security challenges in respect of its website, following ”an increased level of desperation among politicians” who might want to manipulate the voter register.

Part of the measures aimed at addressing the issue is INEC‘s development of a customised software that eliminates the possibility of cloning.

According to Mr. Kayode Idowu, the Chief Press Secretary to INEC chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, the commission is confident that the software will curb the moves of the desperate politicians, who might want to influence the register.

Idowu said the commission was alive to its responsibilities and was putting in place all that was required to ensure the security of its systems.

Idowu said, ”The software will only be installed in the hardware, so it‘s customised. Even though we used the open source software, we adopted part of it and wrote our own software.”

INEC plans to compile a nationwide voter register, which is described as the basis for a credible election, from Nov. 1 to Nov. 14, 2010.

However, there are indications that discussions have commenced between INEC and the National Assembly over the possibility of an adjustment to the 2011 election timetable, a top official of the commission told SATURDAY PUNCH on Friday.

This is coming on the heels of calls from stakeholders for the relaxation of the timetable to allow for better preparations for the elections.

By the timetable released by INEC two weeks ago, political parties are to conduct their primaries from Sept. 11 to Oct. 30, 2010.

When contacted, Senate spokesman, Senator Ayogu Eze, said he was not aware of such a discussion.

The Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator Olorunimbe Mamora said, ”I‘m not aware of such a discussion. However, if such a thing is to happen, it will require an amendment to the Electoral Act and the constitution because it is on the basis of these documents that the INEC timetable was released. But nothing is impossible.”

Jega had at various forums during the week decried the tight schedule under which the commission was operating.

He, however, said the commission would not do anything outside of what was provided in the Electoral Act (2010) and the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

Idowu denied knowledge of such discussions. He, however, admitted that the timelines released by the commission for the registration exercise, as well as the 2011 elections, were tight.

Idowu said, ”There is no doubt that the time schedule is very tight, and the commission has continually said that we will do our best within the time frame. But the more time we have the better job we can do, but we will not do anything other than what the law provides.

”If the law changes, fine and good. Otherwise, we will do what the law says at present. That the time is tight is true, but the one I don‘t know about is the speculation that the timetable is designed to fail.

”It was not designed to fail, it was designed in accordance with the time frame stipulated by the 2010 Electoral Act and because of the sincerity of our intention, we are prepared to follow the law.”

PoliticsZoning: I’m Not Against North – Clark by oladayo042(op): 9:17am On Sep 18, 2010
Prominent Ijaw leader and former Federal Commissioner of Information in the First Republic, Chief Edwin Clark, on Friday in Abuja stated that he was not against the North in spite of his position on the zoning arrangement of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The clarification came on the heels of a statement made by his counsel, Mr. Kayode Ajulo, reportedly attributed to the elder statesman.

Clark, in a statement by Ajulo, said the assumption that he was against the North was far from the truth as he (Ajulo) endorsed the opinion as the chairman, Board of Trustees of Egalitarian Mission Africa and not as a spokesperson or agent of the Ijaw leader.

Ajulo said he was sure that Clark ”believes in the unity of Nigeria and will never do or say anything to destroy the peace and tranquility we enjoy in the country.”

The legal practitioner said, ”The opinion on personalities such as Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai, Gen. IBM Haruna and other propagandists of zoning of the Nigerian presidency, is my personal opinion as shared by the teeming members and followers of the Egalitarian Mission Africa and does not in any way reflect Chief E.K. Clark‘s views on these personalities.

”Although same cannot be said of me, I am aware, from my professional and personal interaction with Chief Clark over the years, that he has a tremendous respect and love for the North with some personal relationships spanning over 40 years.”

To buttress the assertion that it was his opinion, the legal practitioner said he would go on exile should IBB become president again after a “nasty experience” he had as a student of the University of Jos.

Ajulo said, ”Despite the cries, IBB presented himself as a contestant in his bid to become Nigeria‘s president. I consider this a grand insult, coming from someone who is today regarded as the face of corruption and everything wrong in Nigeria’s statecraft. Never again can we afford to allow a corrupt mogul to rule Nigeria.

To underscore our opposition, I have resolved that if Gen. Babangida becomes president of Nigeria again, I will leave the comfort of my home and beauty of my law practice in Nigeria to seek peace elsewhere.

”I am not alone in this quest as everyone that shares this sentiment with me is ready to follow suit. This exodus will make the then Babangida military era‘s brain drain a child‘s play.”

Those 5 best O'level subjects are very important and should be taken very seriously. Like Bigbug said "If you don't have ECONS in your O'level, you can't be allowed to study POL. SCI." Also, If you dont have GOVT in your O'level, you can't be given ECONOMICS (and other BSS courses). No matter who you know. Even if you are given on the admission list, you have to be transferred because the Admission Office and Faculty Office will not clear you. Politics‘ Politicians Spend Too Much On Elections ’ by oladayo042(op): 6:19am On Sep 16, 2010
A senator in the third republic, Remi Okunriboye, has described as “pathetic” the current situation where politicians incur huge debt in their bid to acutalise their political ambition.

Mr. Okunriboye, who spoke in Owo, said the huge amount committed to campaigns will continue to rob the nation of credible polls.

“What do you expect from politicians who borrow from banks and people? They will never serve the interest of the masses,” he said.

“Their main target, when they get to position, is to first recoup the money they spend during campaign. This is highly detrimental to the advancement of the nation call Nigeria. They invest heavily to make Nigerians pay for it later.”

The politician, who is a senatorial candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, also charged anti-corruption agencies to probe the spending of aspirants during electioneering campaign. He said it was time Nigerians rise up against extravagant spending by politicians during elections.

Fulfil promises

He also urged politicians across the country to always fulfill their electioneering promises whenever they get to positions, saying the only way politicians could assist the electorate was to give them dividends of democracy.

“It is highly disturbing that the moment politicians get to the corridor of power they forget the electorates,” he said.

“This is not good for our democracy; we must allow our people to get to the mainstream.”

Mr. Okunriboye also criticised the total number of political parties registered in the country, saying, “the more you have various political parties, the more you create problems for the country.”

He, however, charged political leaders in the country to look inward to tackle the problems of the masses through massive creation of jobs.

PoliticsDele Momodu Applies As Lp Presidential Candidate by oladayo042(op): 6:15am On Sep 16, 2010
The publisher of a celebrity magazine, Ovation, Bashorun Dele Momodu, has applied officially to the Labour Party to contest the 2011 presidential on its platform.

Presenting his formal Letter of Intent to the National Chairman of the party, Chief Dan Iwuanyanwu, at the party headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, Momodu extolled the great vision of the LP under its current leadership as the last hope of the common man unlike some other parties that had been taken over and corrupted by the highest bidder phenomenon.

Momodu, who was accompanied by his campaign manager, Mr. Godwin Amaize, and other members of his campaign officials, was received at the headquarters by Iwuanyanwu; Deputy National Chairman, Alhaji Ali Abacha; and National Secretary, Alhaji Abdulsalam Abdulkadir Salam.

Presenting the two-page letter and other documents, Momodu said he had been a very loyal member of the Labour Party since he met Iwanyawu in Abuja early last year. He added that he was deeply encouraged by his vision of making the LP the hope of ordinary Nigerians who have been yearning for good governance and accountability.

He said, “The time has now come for all members of our party to pick the right candidate who can fulfill the dreams and aspirations of Nigerians.

“And we must stand out as a party of the common man and not that of the highest bidders who are on the prowl to buy up any available party.

“It is for this reason and purpose that I humbly present myself as the perfect choice for this important mission.”

Enumerating his profile, Momodu stated that he is a fresh blood and has not been tainted by political appointments or public office.

In his response, Iwuanyanwu commended Momodu’s courage, foresight and vision and described him as a loyal and financial party member since he joined LP early last year.

He also noted that by his letter, Momodu was the first member of the party who had so far officially declared his aspiration to be the party‘s presidential flagbearer in the 2011 election.

Also on Wednesday, the Dele Momodu Presidential Campaign Organisation released its official logo and slogan for the campaign.

CrimeRe: Mayhem In Ibadan, As Nurtw Factions Clash by oladayo042(op): 6:13am On Sep 16, 2010
IT was a bloody day in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, yesterday.

Twenty-five persons, including five policemen, were reportedly killed as the ancient city erupted in violence.

It happened when factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) engaged one another in a gun battle.

The Police denied the casualty figure in a telephone interview.

ThePolice Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Miss Olabisi Okuwobi, said three people were killed.

Their bodies, she said, were brought to the Police Headquarters by Alhaji Lateef Salako, aka Eleweomo.

Miss Okuwobi insisted that no policeman was killed.

The attack was allegedly carried out by Eleweomo’s supporters about 1.30am near the Olomi, Ibadan secretariat of the union.

They were said to have been ambushed by supporters of the reinstated chairman of the union, Alhaji Lateef Akinsola, aka Tokyo.

About 83 vehicles, including exotic cars belonging to some leaders of both factions, were reportedly vandalised.

Many houses were shattered by bullets. Residents were awake throughout the night as sporadic gunshots rented the air till dawn.

Scores of residents were wounded. They are being treated in hospitals.

Hundreds of expended cartridges littered the union’s secretariat.

The assailants allegedly entered the union’s secretariat, broke the doors and destroyed office furniture and other equipment.

A source said the attackers forcibly entered the secretariat amidst shootings after destroying a black Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) belonging to Tokyo.

The union leader narrowly escaped being killed; he has since gone underground.

The assailants were said to have mobilised to the NURTW secretariat to sack Tokyo, who moved into the building after the National Industrial Court (NIC), Abuja, reinstated him early August.

He was said to have turned the secretariat to his home to prevent Eleweomo’s faction from taking it over.

The Oyo State Government banned the union hours after Tokyo was sworn in as chairman but he has remained resolute in reclaiming his mandate, saying he would not vacate the secretariat for Eleweomo’s faction.

The union’s Secretary, Mr. Lekan Aleshinloye, said Tokyo’s supporters decided to keep vigil at the secretariat after getting wind of the alleged plot to sack their chairman.

Aleshinloye said Tokyo’s supporters advanced towards the attackers when they heard gunshots as the latter moved towards the secretariat.

He said they confronted the assailants near the Academy Bridge.

Aleshinloye said Tokyo’s supporters retreated when they realised that Eleweomo’s group was allegedly led by some policemen from the State Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

But the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Baba Bolanta, denied the allegation that the command backed the attackers.

CrimeMayhem In Ibadan, As Nurtw Factions Clash by oladayo042(op): 6:05am On Sep 16, 2010
There was pandemonium in Ibadan capital of Oyo State today as hoodlums suspected to be members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in their hundreds clashed in three areas of the state.

P.M.NEWS gathered that hoodlums allegedly loyal to factional leader of the union, Alhaji Lateef Salako a.k.a. Elewe Omo, stormed the NURTW Secretariat at Olomi area of Ibadan to chase away Alhaji Lateef Akinsola a.k.a. Tokyo, who was reinstated by the National Industrial Court in Abuja as the authentic NURTW chairman in the state.

It was gathered that over 88 vehicles belonging to Tokyo’s faction were destroyed during the mayhem that started in the wee hours of today.

According to the state NURTW Secretary, Comrade Lekan Aleshinoye, Tokyo’s boys confronted them at about 4 a.m. today during which they destroyed their vehicles vandalised offices and injured several people.

He alleged that they came with some policemen that assisted them in their operation.

Another report has it that hoodlums in 50 vehicles stormed the motor park at tollgate along Ibadan expressway in attempt to take over the park. They attacked the NURTW members in the park in an attempt to take over the place.

One of the vehicles they came with, an Isuzu SUV, was allegedly loaded with guns, charms and other dangerous weapons.

During the attack, one person was injured and was taken to an undisclosed hospital. Over 20 vehicles were allegedly destroyed at the toll gate.

As at the time of filling this report, some hoodlums were still clashing with one another at Iwo road.

Policemen seem to be having a hard time controlling the clash. Armoured personnel carriers have been deployed to strategic places in the state to curtail further violence.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Alhaji Adisa Bolanta, denied the allegation that he mobilised thugs to attack Toyko’s boys.
