Politics / Open Letter To President-elect Muhammadu Buhari by oladimejiX: 10:37am On Apr 01, 2015
Your Excellency Sir: Let me quickly jump in front of the oncoming bandwagon in offering my congratulations. I know you do not have too much time for niceties because much has been left on the Augean Stables for you to clean up. Let me be one of the first to offer my two kobo on how you should begin the art (for, in Nigeria, it is indeed an art) of governing us for the next four years. My advice is neither in chronological order nor even in any order of preference. But most of it stems from lessons learned in the huge fall from grace to grass of your immediate predecessor, Mr. Goodluck Jonathan

(Declaration of Assets) Even before your official swearing in ceremony scheduled for May 29th, go ahead and declare your assets as you promised. Do it publicly. In fact, find some money and buy space in a few national dailies and online media outlets and declare your assets. I am sure your Vice, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, will follow suit. Nigerians know both of you are not stupendously rich, so no need to worry about having to explain how you came about your assets. Then go ahead and make it (in private, of course) a requirement for all your ministerial, judicial and heads of MDA appointees, to also declare their assets.

(Appointments) Please look beyond the APC for a combination of brains and brawn. Make deliberate efforts to find talents in other parties (believe it or not, there are good people even in the PDP) and appoint them to, not just inconsequential positions, but key positions that will task their intellect and vigor. Look beyond active politicians for skilled people because many of them want to serve and can serve very well but for myriad reasons, could not participate in politics. Spread your appointments across the nation as fairly as possible. I know the southwest practically elected you (the north had always been with you) and you will be pulled by those of us from the southwest to reward us and not marginalize us like Jonathan did. But you are president for the whole country. Beam your searchlight on the east, south-south and all over the country and look for talents. If you try hard, you will find talents in the states that voted against you. You will find talents among Nigerians living abroad. You have to demonstrate the level of maturity that Jonathan lacked and show the world that you are not vindictive. How nice would it be if you could ask Nuhu Ribadu to be Minister of Interior, in charge of the Police, Immigrations, Prisons, Civil Defense and Customs? These are parastatals that have become cesspools of corruption and need someone of Ribadu’s incorruptibility, energy, patriotism and attention-to-detail to lead. How about Raji Fashola for Ministry of Works or Ministry of Justice? You get my drift?

(Corruption) Nigerians trust you and to some degree, trust Osinbajo. But that is not the same and will, of course, not be the same for your appointees. You cannot single-handedly eradicate corruption in Nigeria. In fact, no one can eradicate corruption from any country. You can only do your best to reduce it to the bare minimum. To this end, you must return transparency and independence to the EFCC and ICPC. Once nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate to serve for a specified term, the chairpersons of both organizations should only be removable by (a simple majority) legislative impeachment. This removes the EFCC from Executive control and allows every political party to have a say in how it does its job. Please ask your political appointees to sign an undated Resignation Letter before you appoint them. This will serve you well in the future if they misbehave and you need to sack them. All you would need to do is put a date on their Resignation Letter and ACCEPT their resignation. This letter serves to keep them on their toes. I have heard other members of your party (and specifically Prof. Osinbajo) promise to not go after those who have perpetrated corruption before your election. I hope that is not true. Nigerians expect you to go after those who stole the future of their children. No, you should not allow this to consume you and detract from more important things. Nonetheless, we cannot afford to let them go scot-free. They must pay, if only to serve as deterrence to future thieves.

(Judiciary) You must overhaul the judiciary as a matter of urgency. The process of litigation in Nigeria is too long, too tedious, too expensive and too prone to abuse that justice is often delayed and thus often denied. Please embark on the construction of more courtrooms, upgrade the infrastructures of the existing ones, improve the welfare of judiciary workers and build more prisons to house those convicted in your new, expedited process.

(Federal Budget) This is too fat. You have to demonstrate to Nigerians that you are going to live by example. All those billions of naira usually allocated for food in Aso Rock need to be drastically cut down. Everybody working in or visiting Aso Rock is already being paid handsomely. They can pay for their own food. Make the cafeteria in Aso Rock a pay-for-your-own-food establishment for everybody. Cut down on the number of people traveling out of town and out of country who collect estacodes and allowances for doing practically nothing on such trips. Then invite the Senate leader and the Speaker of the House of Representatives and ask them to lead their respective legislatures in taking drastic cuts both in salaries and in other emoluments. Nigerians find it unconscionable that a Senator earns more than the President of the United States. Your predecessor was too compromised to have the moral authority to ask the legislators to take a pay cut. You do not have such a problem. They - the legislators - are looking for motivation, direction and purpose. You must provide that leadership.

(NNPC) I don’t need to tell you that this is the nation’s jugular. Fortunately, you are probably the most knowledgeable about this sector out of all who have governed Nigeria. So, there is very little anybody can tell you about this that you do not already know. You must appoint persons of absolutely unquestionable character to head this Ministry and the various parastatals that support our oil industry. Your Minister of Petroleum must believe in refining our oil within our country. And so that person must commence the construction of new refineries and the repair of old ones. If you have to borrow money to do anything, this is one sector you must get going almost right away. By the time your party comes to ask for our votes in 2019, we must be paying far less at the pumps than we are currently paying and exporting finished oil products to neighboring countries.

(Transportation) I take you at your word that you will revive the moribund Nigeria Airways by first deploying most of the aircraft in the currently bloated Presidential fleet to the national carrier. It has been a national embarrassment that the Giant of Africa has been unable to manage its airline. Remember that what killed Nigeria Airways was corruption (from ticketing fraud to spare parts fraud and) general poor maintenance record. Your new Nigeria Airways must be peopled with crack professionals and technicians – people who take aviation safety and customer service seriously. On the railways, you will agree with me that the situation whereby people and merchandises heading from Abuja to Ondo, Ile-Ife, Sokoto, Ado Ekiti, Birnin Kebbi, Akure, Benin City, Ogbomosho, Oyo, Jalingo, Yola, Damaturu, Dutse, Calabar, and many more key towns cannot even contemplate taking the train. Train tracks do not pass through these places! And the tracks we have are single tracks that force trains to wait for each other for hours at trains stations. These were the tracks betrothed to us by the colonial masters and we are yet to improve on them. Please start building new tracks and get rid of those archaic, used locomotives with which your predecessor “transformed” us back to the Stone Age. Remember, a viable rail system will ease the pressure on our roads as large goods such as petroleum tanks and containers will find it cheaper and faster to use the railways.

(Defense) Like NNPC, this is another sector about which nobody can lecture you. As the Boko Haram quagmire has shown us, there has been gross corruption or negligence or incompetence of all of the foregoing in the Ministry of Defense dating back to before your predecessor. Things just got past him more because he knew next to nothing about this sector and he was too incurious and too afraid to ask questions. Luckily for us, you know what is going on and nobody can accuse you of being too afraid to ask questions. The ranks of our military leadership, the officer corps, has been politicized and bastardized to the point that they have lost credibility with Nigerians. The respect and adulation normally enjoyed by the military has been erased and replaced with scorn and derision. People now see the military as a bunch of willing tools in the hands of politicians; a rag-tag bunch who will scamper off the battlefield with tails tucked between their legs at the sound of Boko Haram’s Hilux trucks. You have to restore the dignity of the Nigerian military. Heads have to roll. In fact, heads that have left the service but responsible for the rot in the military must be recalled and set rolling. You must set up a panel of former military officers, aided by a crack team of accountants, to look into the books of the military and find all the missing trillions – the reason our military lacked weapons and other equipment when called up to defend the country; the reason why thousands of our citizens were easily massacred by terrorists; the reason why we lost parts of our country to a Boko Haram and the reason why our country became the butt of jokes in international military circles. You must reorient the military to the path of professionalism – training for war in peacetime as if they are at war; training them in some of the best countries in the world and with some of the best militaries in the world; equipping them with the most modern war-fighting equipment; taking care of their welfare and that of their family and building for them infrastructures that befit the status we want them to occupy in the world. If you have to reduce the size, please do so. Remember, size is not might. Most advanced nations have moved away from large, slower military to smaller and more mobile, more nimble forces. That is the direction we should be headed. We should be building a smaller but more lethal force.

(Intelligence) There are too many unintelligent personnel parading themselves as intelligence operatives in our country. Like the military, they too have been co-opted into serving the whims and caprices of the government of the day. And they do not know what they are doing. I make this last statement boldly, confident that I know what I am talking about. Our intelligence organizations should complement the efforts of the law enforcement agencies and the military. In fact, they should be integral parts of those organizations and should not, themselves, be exempted from being scrutinized. You need to infuse the DMI, the NSA, the DSS and all the others with well-trained (internationally well-trained) professionals who can teach basic and advance intelligence gathering, packaging and dissemination to the end user. The gun-toting, sunglasses-wearing and suit-decked so-called intelligence personnel are just collecting pay checks. Where, for example, is the Boko Haram leader? Where are the Chibok girls? How are weapons getting inside Nigeria – and I mean heavy weapons? How are fighters getting inside Nigeria and how are they getting re-supplied? You need to overhaul this sector.

(Medical) Please send a bill to the legislature prohibiting all government officials from using government money to fund any aspect of medical care they receive abroad. They can exercise their inalienable right of free movement, but Nigeria should no longer pay for anybody to receive treatment abroad. In the mean time and while the bill snakes through the legislature, use your executive powers to deny requests for overseas medical travels that involve the use of government funds.

Clearly, your biggest challenge is electricity. This is the giant killer that has “killed” those before you. If you fail in everything above and succeed in stabilizing electricity supply, increasing its generation and distributing it effectively, your name will be written in gold. This will task your brain and sap your energy the most. Every sinew of your being must be engaged when you appoint people to solve this very huge problem. With the talents that abound within our country and outside, with the resources at our disposal, you can eradicate our dependence on all sorts of generators. With stable electricity, you won’t need to create too many jobs as Nigerians will create jobs by themselves.

Your Excellency, I know you have a full plate and you are no spring chicken. That is why assembling a team of very qualified and able people from across the country and the Diaspora will make your job easier. All you need to do is provide the motivation, purpose and direction and they will execute. Begin, Sir, by appointing a credible spokesperson who also has a strong background in the media – a true professional. I think Reuben Abati has proved to us that ability to churn out bombast-laden articles does not make an effective spokesperson. You need someone who will command the professional respect of members of his/her journalism constituency as well as be able to articulate your programs and actions without being condescending and patronizing. Sir, please do not appoint someone who will attack your political enemies. That job should go to your party’s spokesperson.

Good luck (not Goodluck) Sir.Abiodun Ladepo

Politics / Apc Leading Pdp In Results From 21 States Apc 10,101,497 Pdp 6,798,254 by oladimejiX: 5:58am On Mar 31, 2015
Erstwhile Head of State, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) was last night sustaining his lead over President Goodluck Jonathan in the declared results of the presidential elections released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, last night. President Jonathan has, however, protested results declared from Kano, Jigawa, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Katsina and Kogi States, alleging malpractices.

Jonathan’s protest articulated by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was, however, followed by another statement late last night in which it claimed it was not perturbed by the results from the North-West, stronghold of Buhari. Buhari’s All Progressives Congress, APC, has also protested the results submitted from Rivers State on the basis that there was no election in the state.

As at the time the commission suspended announcement of results late last night, Buhari had scored 10,101,497 votes from 21 states and the FCT, to President Jonathan, who has so far polled 6,798,254 votes, to second place. The results were declared by the returning officers from the states. Of the 21 states declared, Buhari won the polls in 13 states of Ogun, Kogi, Osun, Ondo, Oyo, Kwara, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Gombe, Sokoto, Jigawa and Kaduna.

Jonathan won the polls in eight states namely Ekiti, Enugu, Nasarawa, Anambra, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Imo and Plateau. Jonathan also won the polls in the FCT. Buhari had so far marshalled more than 25 per cent in 16 states while the president grabbed 25 per cent in 15 of the states so far declared.

The results from Adamawa, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Lagos, Niger, Rivers, Taraba, Yobe and Zamfara were outstanding at press time and would likely be declared today.

The results earlier submitted from Rivers State, however, turned into a matter of investigation after the APC sent a strongly worded petition rejecting the results. The results returned had given Jonathan 1,487,075 votes, representing 95 per cent of the votes.

Under-aged voters

Addressing journalists, yesterday, in Abuja, Deputy National Chairman of PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, gave the seven states the party has petitioned INEC for the cancellation of the polls to include Kano, Jigawa, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Katsina and Kogi States.
Jonathan casting his vote

Jonathan casting his vote

Secondus alleged that in the seven states, under-aged children were allowed to vote in contravention of the Electoral Act and he also alleged that voting took place late in the night in the affected states, adding: “In Kano and some of these states in the North, majority of voters were under-aged. Voting also took place in the night, and you know that in the night rigging can take place. We have completed our reports from the Kano State chapter.”

We’ll resist rigging—Fani-Kayode

Also yesterday, PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, PDPPCO, reiterated its claim that its candidate, President Jonathan, was winning the presidential election.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, Director, Media and Publicity of PDPPCO, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode threatened that any attempt to manipulate figures or rig out the PDP from any quarter would be firmly resisted.

Fani- Kayode said: “We wish to take this opportunity to make it clear to the Nigerian public that according to the figures made available to us, we are ahead in the presidential elections by at least two to three million votes.

“We have our own Situation Room and we have collated all our figures from the various polling booths, wards, local government areas and states in the federation.

“Despite the propaganda of the opposition, we are confident of victory. They and all other stakeholders can be rest assured that we will accept nothing less than the announcement of an election result that is truthful and that reflects the true will of the Nigerian people.

“Any attempt to manipulate figures or to rig us out from any quarter will be firmly resisted.”

INEC probes Rivers result

Announcing the constitution of a high-powered investigation team to investigate the allegation that voting did not take place in Rivers State, the commission in a statement issued by Mr. Kayode Idowu, Chief Press Secretary to INEC chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, said the fact-finding mission would ascertain the veracity of the claims and allegations and advise it and the Chief Electoral Commissioner/Returning Officer for the Presidential election appropriately.

Idowu said the committee of National Electoral Commissioners to handle the investigation included Mrs. Thelma Iremirem, Head and Supervisory National Commissioner for Rivers State, Col. M.K Hammanga and Professor Lai Olurode as members.

He said: “They have departed for Rivers State and it is expected that they will submit their report before the end of the collation of results of the other states and the FCT. Following the consideration of the report, the commission will make its decision known.”

The PDP also suffered significant losses in the Senate elections.

The APC swept the three seats in Kogi, Oyo, Lagos, Kwara, Kebbi and Sokoto. The PDP, however, won in Abia, Imo and Ebonyi.

Politics / Woman Stabs Husband To Death Over PDP, APC Presidential Candidates by oladimejiX: 8:21am On Mar 30, 2015
Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old pregnant woman who allegedly stabbed her husband to death during a quarrel over who would emerge winner between the Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress, APC presidential candidates, while voting was on-going , weekend, at Ejigbo area of the state.

The incident, which threw the densely populated area into disarray, occurred at about 12noon inside the couple’s one room apartment at 81 Military zone junction.

There were different accounts on how tragedy struck. A version of the account said the couple had divergent views on their choice of presidential candidates. While the husband was said to have decided to vote for the PDP, his wife, simply called Onyiyechi, reportedly chose to vote for the presidential candidate of the APC. An argument which degenerated into a fight over whose choice would hold sway reportedly ensued between them.

In the process, Onyiyechi allegedly stabbed her husband with a kitchen knife in the chest region. Another version said the deceased, whose identity could not be immediately ascertained, told his pregnant wife to take the okro she was grating inside the room, to the veranda which also served as kitchen , an instruction she reportedly disobeyed, following which an argument which led to a fight occurred.

Visit to the scene

When reporters visited the scene of the incident yesterday, the couple’s apartment was under lock . Their neighbours however described the suspect as an amicable person who had never quarreled with anyone since she moved into the building. One of the tenants who spoke on condition of anonymity told reporters that they did not witness how the suspect allegedly stabbed her husband.

But he explained that : “ We were all outside waiting to vote when Onyiyechi rushed out, shouting for help. Out of curiosity, we all ran inside, only to discover blood all over the ground, on entering their apartment.

”On closer observation, we noticed that the blood was from her husband chest region. We met him on the ground. Before we could rush him to the hospital, he gave up the ghost. Perhaps, he would have survived the attack had Onyiyechi called for help early. From all indication, it was clear that she attempted to manage the situation immediately the incident occurred. It was when she discovered that the situation had overwhelmed her that she raised alarm.

”I do not know the name of her husband. We only know that of his wife, who we fondly call Onyiyechi. The irony of this matter is that she is not cantankerous. ”She has never beaten a little child, let alone to fight with any neighbor. Again on that day, we saw both of them together. They were seen sitting outside, one hour before the incident occurred. Policemen from Ejigbo later came to remove the corpse to the Isolo morgue”.

Politics / Scores Killed In Rivers, Gombe …as Blasts Rock Anambra, Enugu(photo) by oladimejiX: 4:35pm On Mar 29, 2015
Tension heightened in Rivers, Anambra and Enugu states on Saturday following bombings, killings and arrests in some polling units.

In Rivers State, a soldier and two civilians were shot dead by suspected political thugs at polling centres in Ozuoha and Kpite in Ikwerre and Tai Local Government Areas of the state.

Sources said the gunmen opened fire where prospective voters had gathered for accreditation and that a bullet hit the soldier, who died on the spot.

Brigade Commander Commander, 2 Brigade, Bori Camp, Port Harcourt, Koko Essien, confirmed the incident when he spoke with Amaechi in Ubima.

One of the civilians, Sampson Wona, was said to have been shot dead while waiting to be accredited at a polling unit in Ozuoha .

The second civilian, who like Wona, was a member of the APC, was killed in Kpite, Tai LGA.

Shortly after these incidents, the APC in the state alleged that scores of its members were killed, 100 arrested and many disenfranchised .

It said in a statement by Chukwuemeka Eze, the Senior Special Assistant, Media and Public Affairs to the State chairman, that the killings were carried out in Kpite and other parts of the state by hoodlums suspected to be acting for the PDP.

The party attached photographs of the slain persons to the statement to prove its claim.

The statement read, “Today’s (Saturday) presidential and National Assembly elections have turned out to be a big nightmare for the APC in Rivers State, with the members being killed, attacked and disenfranchised in various parts of the state.

“Armed militias working for the PDP have intensified their killings of APC members. Scores have already been killed and several others marked for elimination.

“This (Saturday) morning in Kpite town, Tai Ward 2 and other areas of the state, five people were shot dead by PDP’s armed militia, and that was before accreditation commenced.

“It is sad that the PDP and its collaborators are targeting APC strongholds and chieftains for attacks and killings. To intimidate our people and contrary to the court ruling forbidding the use of the Army in this elections, there has been a massive deployment of soldiers in the state with clear instruction to shoot at sight any APC agent that refuses to comply with the evil plot of the PDP to write the results of the election at some designated areas of the state in favour of the PDP.”

The statement claimed that a former Commissioner and an APC leader, Chidiebere Okwuwolu, was arrested by the police and taken to Olu Obasanjo Police Station in Port Harcourt.

It added that 99 other APC members and leaders were being held in various police stations in the state.

The party also said that at Ubima, result sheets were “currently with Nyesom Wike, the PDP governorship candidate for the state.”

The Director of Communication, Greater Together Campaign Organisation, Ibim Semenitari, condemned the development, lamenting that some APC leaders in the state had also been marked for elimination.

Semenitari, in her statement said, “Armed militias working for the PDP have intensified their killings of APC members. Scores have already been killed and several others marked for elimination.

“Specifically, the PDP armed men target APC strongholds for attack using heavy gunfire. The Greater Together Campaign Organisation, the campaign outfit for Dr. Dakuku Peterside, has condemned this visit of terror on the state.

“On Saturday morning in Kpite Town, Tai Ward 2, two people were shot dead by the PDP armed militia, and that was before accreditation commenced.”

But the state Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Samuel Nwanosike, told Sunday PUNCH that his party members were not interested in attacking or killing anybody to win elections.

Nwanosike described the claim of the APC as mere propaganda, adding that while the PDP had been working hard to win elections, the APC had been making frivolous allegations.

In Enugu, there was a bomb blast at the polling unit located inside WTC Primary School, Enugu North LGA at about 9am on Saturday.

The source of the explosion which made many prospective voters to flee was not known as of 8pm.

In Anambra State, voters who came for accreditation in the morning at Ayomna Okpala Primary School in Awka scampered for safety following a bomb explosion there.

No casualties were recorded in the incident but the school building was badly damaged.

One of the eyewitnesses, Chinenye Ibe, said they were shocked when the explosion occurred and disrupted the exercise.

Earlier, there was an explosion at Onitsha South which eyewitnesses said injured a number of persons.

The Women Coordinator, National Presidential Campaign of the PDP , Joy Emordi, said the Onitsha South blast was unfortunate.

She called on the indigenes , electoral officials and monitors in the state to be vigilant.

The Secretary of Anambra State Government, Oseloka Obazie, told one of our corespondents in an interview, that he was yet to get an independent confirmation of the blasts.

He said, “I pray these do not derail the electoral process here. Anambra State is a very peaceful state and I don’t know why these are happening.”

Obazie, however, assured Anambra indigenes that the government of the state was on top of the situation.

The elections however claimed some lives in Gombe State where a member of the House of Assembly, Umar Aminu, and eight others were feared killed by Boko Haram insurgents in Dukku and Nafada LGAs.

On Friday night, the insurgents killed 25 persons and injured 30 others in a community in the southern part of Borno State.

Borno State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, who lamented the incident, added that several houses were also razed by the terrorists.

Ihuomadinihu: This is a picture of Igbo brides in G.T Basden's Among the Ibos.
Yes,morallys were high in those days and even the Egyptians did not emphasize on three piece suits. I don't know the agenda of this thread but it will interest you to know that all Nigerian tribes were naked at one point. Some tribes in Africa still prefer to maintain their adamic form. 1921 is recent, western civilization arrived quite late to igbos, remember? Besides, scanty clothes in Africa does not mean barbarism, barbarism is when a woman decides to go naked in the name of fashion in this 21st century.

You must be an Historian to have been able to quote the very source of the picture, nice
There's no agenda in this thread other than been informative, the picture really interested having a glimpse of how they dressed back then
Nice post though

Two 14-year-old Canadians hacked a Bank of Montreal ATM after finding an operator's manual online. The manual showed how to gain administrative control of the device, according to a media report published over the weekend.

When Matthew Hewlett and Caleb Turon tested the instructions against an ATM at a nearby supermarket, the ninth graders didn't expect them to work, The Winnipeg Sun reported Sunday. To their surprise, the machine quickly prompted them for a password. Even more surprising, their first guess—a six-character password that's common among default settings—let them in. The boys then reported their lunch-hour caper to bank employees, who at first thought the duo had merely acquired the PINs of an ATM customer.

"I said: 'No, no, no. We hacked your ATM. We got into the operator mode,'" Hewlett was quoted as saying. Then, the bank employees asked for proof.

"So we both went back to the ATM and I got into the operator mode again," Hewlett said. "Then I started printing off documentations like how much money is currently in the machine, how many withdrawals have happened that day, how much it's made off surcharges. Then I found a way to change the surcharge amount, so I changed the surcharge amount to one cent."

Good chance it was a Diebold ATM. Default supervisor password is 000000 and from my experience, LOTS of banks and credit unions don't change that password. Now that's just the standard supervisor mode password which will allow you to pull most of that information and set a few settings.

You can actually boot most ATMs into windows but will require physical access to the ATM and to plug in a keyboard but once again, the default password isn't usually changed,

Literature / Nairalanders Poor Reading Culture by oladimejiX: 2:37pm On Aug 13, 2014
It has come to my notice how a lot of Nairalanders find it difficult reading any article, story or any post they find seemingly long which are often not , most often you will see them comment like "op, post is too long, couldn't finish it" or "which kain long story be that"
I know some people might want to say i'm committing a fallacy of part to general that its not entirely true, just because a few people complain doesn't imply everybody, the literature section of nairaland is one of the least visited sections and posts from here hardly make frontpage, i want to believe other Nairalanders have observed this trend, what's your take on this?
Family / My Wife Got Fat, Now I Don't Like Her by oladimejiX: 5:51pm On Aug 09, 2014
I married my wife because she was hot and I knew there was no way I should even have a shot with her - let alone a relationship. For some reason she really loved me and wanted to marry me.

I didn't want to lose her because I loved her body, her face, everything. Being with her made me feel so good, touching her at any opportunity made me crazy. She was so perfect, but ultimately we have nothing in common.

That was 12 years ago. Now we have two kids and that body I was obsessed with is gone. She has put on like 25-30 kg at least and now so much out of shape and fat. I get so mad at her sometimes for letting herself get so out of shape even though I know having kids can do that and it's not her fault. She's such a good person, but the reason I fell in love with her is gone.

I feel trapped sometimes but I know it is my fault for being so superficial. Lately I feel myself looking longer at other women and fantasizing about sleeping with a hot woman again. I just can't accept that I will never be able to enjoy sleeping with a hot woman again when it used to be so mind blowing.

I have even been thinking about my ex girlfriend who was not even remotely attractive but who was my best friend at the time. I left her for my wife and I wonder if that was the biggest mistake of my life...giving up a quality relationship for beauty and physical attraction now seems so foolish.

Romance / I Stole My Best Friend's Boyfriend by oladimejiX: 11:54pm On Aug 08, 2014
We were in our final year of high school, and my beautiful, highly intelligent and talented best friend, Fiona, had met the man of her dreams. She was over the moon in love with him and I could understand why. He was caring and thoughtful, tall and good-looking. He was serious eye candy and I found myself blushing in his company and often had impure thoughts about him.

Fiona and I were both equally ambitious to go to university the next year.

For the past six years we'd been inseparable, spending every weekend camped out at each other’s houses. We'd had our fair share of boyfriends along the way, but always remained true to one another in the name of female solidarity.

But I knew Ryan was different. He wasn’t just a distraction for Fiona, he was the one. We had our final exams to study for and they paced their time together, kindly including me on outings as often as they could.

When Ryan's parents invited Fiona to dinner to meet the girl of his dreams, I was invited along as well. They all seemed to adore her and when Ryan's father confided in me that "she was the girl he would marry", I felt the first twinge of jealousy set in.

I had never before felt jealous of her, because I loved her unconditionally as my best friend. While she was a natural blonde with bright blue eyes, I was confident with my smattering of freckles and hazel eyes. I felt we were both pretty in our respective ways.

Our school year ended on a high note, with both of us doing very well academically. Fiona was dux and we all went out to celebrate. Ryan was so proud of her and gave her an amazing commitment ring. I was green with envy.

When the university offers came in, Fiona was offered a full scholarship to study medicine at Otago University in Dunedin, New Zealand. I did not get into the medical course I'd applied for, but was accepted for a BSC degree at Sydney University in our home town. At first I was sad that we'd be separated, but then I remembered how envious I had been feeling lately. I reasoned some distance between us might be a good thing.

Ryan was inconsolable when he found out about her offer, as he'd just accepted a new job in Sydney and this was to be the start of a rewarding career for him. They spent every living moment together leading up to her departure for university. I was left out of their plans. I felt sorry for myself and missed my best friend.

The time soon arrived for Fiona to move countries and leave Ryan and me behind. Ryan was as lost as I felt and he started to spend more and more time with me and my family.

I saw this as my opportunity and turned on all the charm. I was always so grateful to see him, chatting about Fiona and filling him in on her university gossip. One day I hinted that she’d met a fellow student she was pretty interested in.

This broke Ryan's heart, but I had no conscience. I knew that I wanted him for myself. I was prepared to go to battle and lose Fiona’s friendship for him.

They exchanged a few heated emails, with Ryan accusing her of cheating on him. She invited him to come over so they could sort out this misunderstanding.

He asked me for advice and I lied blatantly, telling him Fiona had treated all her past boyfriends this way. He believed me, as he reasoned I knew her best, and broke it off with her. I could tell her world had crumbled. She called me to chat and Ryan answered the phone. He was firm when he told her that it was really over between them and revealed that he was interested in me now. At last, I was victorious!

I cut all ties completely with Fiona, changed my mobile number, moved in with Ryan and warned my family that I wanted nothing more to do with Fiona.

A couple of years later we got married and Ryan supported me through university. Over the years we had two children who both look so much like him.

A year ago Ryan was offered a career change with a move to Auckland, and I instantly thought of Fiona. It had been 12 years since we had seen her. We discussed it and both felt that if she were still living in New Zealand, we would have no problem seeing her again.

I found her email address and we began to chat. She was now a successful doctor practicing in Auckland and was very happy to make contact with me again. Ryan and I decided to invite her over to meet our children.

When she walked in the door, she lit up the room with her beauty, grace and wonderful energy and I remembered just how much I missed her.

She looked amazing, toned and tanned, having just returned to NZ after a summer break in Europe, water-skiing and sailing in the Mediterranean. She'd done very well financially, far better than we had, and owned a lovely heritage home on the shore.

Next to her, with the rush of life and the exhaustion of motherhood, I felt like a wilted flower. I was envious of her lifestyle – she was planning a winter break to ski in the Alps. I realised that I'd missed out on her company all those years and could see how much Fiona lived, played and worked with vitality. I was envious and impressed at the same time.

Our children instantly fell in love with her too. Our young daughter asked her, "Why don't you have children of your own? You would be a fantastic mum.”

To which Fiona replied, “I've not met the man to spend the rest of my life with yet."

I looked up at Ryan then, and saw his eyes soften. I can’t help feeling responsible for destroying their hopes of a life together.

I really hope they never find out how I lied.

Properties / How To Avoid Paying House Rent by oladimejiX: 8:25pm On Aug 04, 2014
I bet you cant wait to find out the magic formula that can help you avoid paying house rent, paying of house rent can be such a burden to some people that the mere mention of rent at certain time of the year make some people hypertensive, but you need not place yourself in that kind of uncomfortable situation, when you can actually avoid paying the house rent.

When you consider the amount some people spend on house rent, you can just as well say they are feeding their landlords, or how else would you describe a person whose house rent is 35% to 40% of his annual income? that's really outrageous and its high time you stopped paying that much money to your landlord, let's do a little calculation with this scenario, this would enable you to calculate the percentage of your annual income you spend on house rent.

Monthly salary --------- 85,000

Salary per Annum -----1,020,000

House Rent Per Annum ----------------260,000

so the percentage of your annual income that your house rent comprise of is

(260,000/1,020,000) * 100 = 25.5% you can use the same formula to calculate your own percentage this is just an example

If your house rent is between 25% to 30% then that's healthy and it means it would be easier for you put the magic formula that would help you avoid paying house rent into use but if your house rent is 35% or more of your annual income then there is a need to increase your income.

There is nothing magical or out of this world about the how-to-stop-paying-rent-formula because it's very simple and straight forward and the formula is that you buy a land and build your own house, perhaps you were expecting what you have not heard before, well I'm sorry to disappoint you, truth is your most possible way of avoiding house rent is to have your own house and i know you are aware of this already, this is just to kind of remind you or open your eyes to options that you were oblivious to all this while.

Yes i know you might probably not be making enough money and you have loads of responsibilities, what you must know is if you keep thinking like that you might not start something on time, because there would always be financial responsibilities, so what you should start doing now is to make certain financial changes, that will help you to start saving towards your getting your own house, there are loads of options available from plenty of mortgage banks around you,
I do not know what part of the world you stay and i do know different rules apply for different countries and regions regarding mortgages and building a house but the common rule that applies to everyone is SAVING, if you can start saving towards building your own house then you will be a lot closer to stop paying house rent.

Start SAVING, as it is, you probably is already spending more than you save and that is financial suicide, if already you find it difficult saving towards your house rent the idea of saving towards building your house will sound out of place, no matter your salary, you can save, if you think you can't save then it's because you are already living beyond your means, people who save are people are can sacrifice certain frivolities for the better gain of having assets instead of liabilities, if you own a car and you service your car expenses from your salary, no matter how big your salary is, you are doing something wrong, because your car is a liability and it wont appreciate at all.

there are countless mortgage companies around, if what you earn is just enough to cater for your family with nothing to save, then i urge you to do something about your finances, perhaps you have never drawn a budget for your spending before, then you can start that and your best bet is to start this things when you are still single as soon as one gets married, all this become impossible and difficult, so make changes today start SAVING and avoid paying house rent longer than you should, you are not working to feed your landlord, your comments are welcomed and don't forget to forward to friends as well as share with them too.
