In a brief interview with our correspondent in Abuja, Hon. Igbokwe while pouring out his heart about the current happenings in the national politics said that excluding the South East from the ninth NASS leadership will spell doom for the nation as a whole.
We sought to know how he feels about the clamour for the Southeast to be accommodated in the 9th Assembly, Hon. Igbokwe has this to say:
“It’s against the federal character arrangement for this Administration to look the other way while the Southeast is sidelined in the helms of political affairs. It’s absurd for anyone to refer to the Southeast as a zone the nation can do without.
I am seeing a nation drifting into total disunity, and I am surprised that those running the system are very comfortable with it. It’s also very sad for anyone to subject the Southeast to the condition of begging to be accommodated. How do we reconcile the fact that the third leg of a tripod is being neglected in a nation State where the Igbo, the Yoruba and the Hausa/Fulani are the biggest three?
Is it not funny that the Yoruba and the Hausa/Fulani want to take everything with what they have introduced as a new lexicon in our national politics? They ask:What did the Southeast bring to the table? When did that become a national benchmark for national inclusion on the basis of population, spread and just whatever?
“We have had Assemblies before this 8th and 9th. All the previous Assembly arrangements have been accommodative to all the zones of the nation, why would the 8th and 9th Assemblies be such a ridiculous set-up? If you have six or ten offices to share among six geopolitical zones,why would any zone take two at the expense of others?We can now see through the hypocrisy of some of our so-called leaders!

So, one can just imagine what happens when a language (of varying dialects collides with a foreign language like Spanish)

It's not a different version, it's actually the normal traditional yoruba version, which we have gradually changed over a long time here, we don't use some certain words again when we talk here again, because of modernity e.g thank you - eshewun (traditional yoruba) is now eshe (modern day) but those with historical links still use those words - other then that, the problem is intonation - most south American countries were composed mainly of red indians and they had their own language prior to africans being shipped there as slaves, inter-racial marriages actually made most of the blacks loose their mother tongue which was now replaced with Spanish - if we can filter the Spanish from their tongues, that is perfect yoruba - it's more closer then igbo and yoruba

hardtoget: The Chairman emeritus and founder of DAAR Communications Plc, Raymond Dokpesi, on Thursday, accused the Presidency of frustrating the company’s broadcasting outfits: Africa Independent Television, AIT, and Raypower FM.
He alleged that the Presidency was using the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, to frustrate his broadcast stations. Speaking during a press conference in Abuja, the media mogul lamented that under the current leadership of the NBC, press freedom has been greatly eroded.
According to him, “I believe very strongly that under the leadership of the current director-general of the NBC (Is’haq Kawu), press freedom has been greatly eroded.
“If this was not protected by the president, is it possible that his body language is being interpreted?
“I have it on strict authority and very assured information that the highest echelons of government, the presidency, queried and challenged the NBC that they were not doing their jobs. “How on earth could they be hearing and seeing on AIT what they termed hate speech? Any criticism of this government is hate speech. The NBC is acting under the authority of the president and Commander-in-Chief.

If we remove subsidies and price controls in the downstream sector this would happen
1.Foreign investment would flow in now that profits can be made.
2.This stimulates investments in things like refineries and so on
3.Which would eventually bring down fuel prices
4.Money spent on subsidy can be ideal spent on other sectors which need it, such as education, health, even public transportation
5.Need I say that jobs would be created, benefiting rich and poor.
6.Fuel smuggling, claiming subsidy for fuel not imported and importation of fuel would end.

When GSM came, there were no price controls. GSM companies charged high prices for SIM cards, meanwhile service was poor. They took their money, invested it in new facilities, prices came down.
Remove price controls. Starve the corruption in NNPC. Starve the subsidy cabals. Allow profits to be made. Then sit back and watch as investors flow in, build more refineries without government paying a dime, and prices fall, more jobs get created and money saved is used for better things.
Subsidy has to go. Since 1993.
The same way a floating exchange rate affects the price of imported drugs and small items that affect the poor, is the same way an open market in the oil sector would affect countries that are highly import dependent, the same way removal of subsidy encourages rent seekers in the oil sector and importation at lower cost, the true picture is real investment come in when the market is predictable and stable, people can look at it from different angles but the overall interest of the majority is more important then the benefit to few - refineries are also protected when established because they are the ones that would receive these subsidies, furthermore no subsidy opens the space for importation at the lower costs (dumping comes to mind) as against forcing the true investors that would be protected from importers - why does America as a country still subsidize agriculture if subsidy was bad? and the world Bank don't talk about that? China subsidize commerce by establishing SOE's and the world Bank kicks against it, America is fighting China because of it, but it's beneficial to the larger group of their citizenry - we were taught in school that monopoly is bad, oligopoly neither here or there, perfect competition is the best which means the market is open to all, but in the long run if we follow the price and demand competition curve what happens? In my opinion, if it does happen, price fixing becomes the ultimate all the competitors come together and fix a unified price which would not be in the consumers best of interest.
dachilino: The Vice President for Sustainable Development, World Bank, Laura Tuck, who spoke at the ongoing World Circular Economic Forum in Helsinki, Finland , stated that Nigeria’s fuel subsidy is not helping the poor. Tuck who spoke on the theme ‘Scale it up! The Next Era of the Circular Economy', revealed that the the continuous payment of huge sums of money as subsidies on fossil fuels has worsened resources consumption and increased greenhouse emission and pollution.
“Strong evidence shows that a lot of countries put subsidy on fossil fuels, and these subsidies are insufficient to support the poor. They aggravate resources consumption, pollution and greenhouse gas. Globally, subsidies on fossil fuels are huge,” she added.
Tuck said, “We cannot achieve a circular economy if we continue to make policies that give incentives to overuse of resources. Circularity means we use fewer non-renewable energy like fossil fuels and carefully manage our renewable resources like Timber and fisheries, among others.”

bellachibaby: The Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha, has issued an order to ex-Governor Rochas Okorocha’s appointees, as the battle over handover continues.
He posted the directive on his Twitter account, @EmekaIhedioha, Monday afternoon.
“I have ordered the Principal Secretary to Former Governor Rochas Okorocha and the Head of Imo State Civil Service to prepare a proper hand-over document of all Government Properties before 12am midnight tomorrow 4th June, 2019.”
At the weekend, Ihedioha decried the failure of his predecessor to handover documents containing the financial stance of the state to him.
Ihedioha lamented that he has no documents showing the financial status of the state, hence the difficulty of his administration to hit the ground running.
He said: “We have difficulties operating from Imo Government House now. But I told Imo people that we will start work and give no excuses.
“We will give dividends of democracy irrespective of the status of the state of facilities I inherited from the outgone administration.
“The government that ended was not prepared to handover or ready to receive us. I thank Imo people for receiving us and we shall serve the state with the fear of God.

This comes less than a week after his swearing in for a second term.
Igbere TV reports that President Buhari and his Vice, Yemi Osinbajo took oath of office at the Eagle Square, Abuja, May 29.
In a letter of proclamation personally signed by him and obtained by Igbere TV on Monday, Buhari said the first session of the ninth assembly will hold on Tuesday, June 11, at 10am.
“Whereas it is provided in section 64(3) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) that the person elected as president shall have power to issue a proclamation for the holding of the first session of the national assembly immediately after his being sworn-in.
“Now, therefore, I. Muhammadu Buhari, President, Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in exercise of the powers bestowed upon me by section 64(3) aforesaid, and of all other powers enabling me in that behalf; hereby proclaim that the first session of the Ninth (9th) National Assembly shall hold at 10:00am on Tuesday, 11th June, 2019, in the National Assembly, Abuja.
“Given under my hand and the public seal of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at Abuja, this 30th day of May, 2019.”
