@ Olenyi, take a look at Rdv, Rts and other french speaking channels, they have been there for long and will still be there in years to come. What do you think that sustainned them? It is money they earned from advert. Advert will sustain them if they source for it. Now that their coverage is in the whole of Sub-sahara Africa, you will see how Nigerian will flood their tv(s) with advert. Nilesat is filled up with interesting FTA channels and they are making it with advert.
Lets hope sooooo. But the examples u gave are more or less national carriers dat are first and foremost sustained with government money before the adverts start rolling in. Al jazeera, we all know is a government owned stuff, so also other channels in and around the middle east. Our problem here (sub saharan African and Nigeria in particular) is our lack of good government policies to look after the interest of its citizens. A good example comes to mind. On startimes terrestrial broadcast bouquet, u see stations like NTA Knowledge, NTA Sport, NTA learn, etc. If government had us in mind, wat stops dem from broadcasting those stations for us for free and let the advert sustain it. This would have given M.choice a run for their money. Also wat stops them from telling dstv to drastically bring down their subscription. Its possible. Nigeria has the largest subscriber base for dstv, yet they rip us off. I tell u if south africa has half of the number of subscribers we have, their payment will be brought down for them. At the NCC payley, M.choice said they cant do pay as u go billing. Wasn't this exactly just wat happened wen MTN told us they cant do per second billing until Glo came and crashed everything. Now, they, MTN, offer more per second packages dan others. Its simply a rule of marketing, monopoly is not good. Our government is key. iF only Multi tv will get some backing from their government, den the sky is dia limit. When we were all watching SABC 1, 2, 3 and e.tv, we saw the quality in their broadcasting. Phew.... I just get pissed off wen i see all dis. |
olushaggy:Try this tp 11024 h 03333. First track multi tv with this 12552 v 19531. Fine tune the signal to the best % u can get, then input 11024 h 03333 and standing at the back of the dish, raise it up and a little to the right. U should hit jackpot. Then blind scan. This thread could also be of help https://www.nairaland.com/847865/tips-how-track-w4-36e also get more tps for EW16A @16' from here http://www.flysat.com/e16a.php. You could also try out some tps from amos 5 @17' on the same dish from here http://www.flysat.com/amos5.php For the meaning of ASAS, try this thread. And he yet again sacks another coach. I knew dis would happen wen an assisstant coach was made 1st team coach because the players, under their own guidance (mind u, not the coaches), won the uefa cup. The special one continues to be the best thing dat has happened to chelsea. |
Olenyi, that big gully stomach operator really dominate in Sub-sahara Africa but their problem is that they don't like seeing any interesting english speaking channel in our region that is free. Come to think of it, MultiTv will be an alternative for a lot of people if they retain it free and this will affect the sales of DS**
Hmmm.... U are quite right. But looking at it from a business/marketing point of view, if i were M.choice, i wouldn't bother. Why? Because at this rate, give or take more two years, multi tv will not be able to sustain their transponder lease payment let alone staff payment/running costs, without any concrete avenue of income. Excerpt maybe the Ghanaian government is subsidizing theirexpenses. Take MYTV for instance, they came out with their out package, but at the same time, exploited the seeming lack of quality decoders in the market. They brought in the best decoders that Africa as a whole has everseen. Very rugged, durable, versatile, with available software updates online. Was able to accept other providers smartcard without much stress. Now they dominate the decoder market. Then they located their paytv package in a satellite that is filled with free to air channels. Thus giving customers the option of watching other free to air channels even when u don't subscribe at no extra cost to mytv. So at the end of the day, if u don't subscribe to them, u still get to buy their decoder. When they where selling dishes, their 90cm, 1.8m and 2.4m mesh dish was also the best around. So check it. Its a win win situation for them. This was exactly whatkilled infinity tv and might also happen to multi tv if care is not taken. Lets still watch and see how it all pans out. |
olushaggy: @House,Sorry bro for taking long. As of now, u can't track another sat with mytv at the same time. Some time ago when intelsat 17 started transmission, FTA enthusiasts were overjoyed because u could easily pull down both intelsat 7/10 and 17 at the same time. We even got to watch e.tv after so long and many other superb channels then that some peeps here claimed they were spoiled for choice and couldn't sleep at night because of the awesome channel line up. But the euphoria soon fizzled away as the channels all went off leaving only unisa channel. So for now, no show. Cheers. |
@ All, finally, MultiTv have extended their footprint coverage from West Africa to South African region on Astra 2F with a new trasponder (12522 V 27500). Their new trasponer will be operational starting from 27th Nov being tuesday. Digital Sole Thieves not gonna like it.
But if u look at it well, are they really a rival to d**v. I haven't seen any of thier channels that u can begin to compare to what d**v has to offer(ie for those dat subscribe to d**v). Multi tv doesn't have any special stuff that should give M.choice sleepless nigths. Anyway, lets see how this plays out. All-in-all, the customer will be the better for it. |

CPC CANVERSES FOR PAY-AS-YOU-GO PACKAGE FOR DSTV As part of efforts at assuaging aggrieved consumers of Digital Satellite Television (DSTV), the Consumer Protection Council (CPC)has advised Multichoice Nigeria Limited, the owners of the cable television to introduce pay-as-you-go subscription for its subscribers. CPC, at a recent meeting with top managers of DSTV, said the time was ripe for the introduction of the pay-as-you-go subscription in the interest of millions of subscribers of the satellite television. The agency sought to know the reason why this form of subscription could not be introduced in Nigeria as it has been done in other climes for the economic well-being of consumers. According to the Council, the pay-as-you-go subscription would allow consumers get value for their money, give them an option ofchoice as well as enable them control their consumption. Besides the suggested introduction of the pay-as-you-go subscription, the Council also canvassed for some form of compensation to subscribers for loss of transmission signals, usually experienced by them during adverse weather conditions, particularly rainy season, known as “rain fade”. Other issues discussed at the meeting included proper and adequate supervision of DSTV dealers and agents and seeming delay in resolution of consumer complaints by the company. Responding, the delegation from Multichoice Nigeria Limited disclosed that the firm did not have the platforms to implement pay-as-you-go system of payment but promised to look into it. The delegation explained further that Multichoice is an access-to-content selling company and could not determine what it could purchase or sell to the smallest unit which would allow a pay-as-you-go paymentsystem to function. On the issue of compensation for down-timesfor signals, Multichoice explained that loss of signals during the rainy period is a natural occurrence, which could hardly be curtailed, promising, however, to look into the Council’sposition that some form of compensation should be given to subscribers for this occurrence pending the development of a new technology that may solve the problem. The company pointed out that it has always been committed to speedy resolution of consumer complaints, stating that there may, however, be slight delay in resolution if the problems were technical in nature. While giving Multichoice the opportunity to further deliberate on the issues discussed at its management level, the Council was insistent that the Nigerian consumers must be given choices and options available in other countries and mandated the company to look into the above issues with despatch. http://allafrica.com/stories/201211160598.html |

n9jaboy: Police arrest Alaba DSTV pirates. The suspects were arrested for allegedly pirating DSTV signals The police in Lagos have arrested two traders, JohnAndy and Valentine Ezenwaka, for allegedly engaging in piracy of DSTV signals. The Police Special Fraud Unit, SFU, stated this on Friday. The duo, traders at the Alaba International market, are accused of importing, selling, and distributing “illicit” devices capable of illegally accessing DSTV’s broadcast signals to “unsuspecting” members of the public. In a statement signed by Ngozi Isintume-Agu, the SFU Public Relations Officer, the police said it actedupon a petition by Multichoice Nigeria Limited , the provider of encrypted multi-channel satellite television service known as DSTV. Tunde Ogunshakin, Commissioner of Police at SFU, said, according to the statement, that the suspects set up contrived equipment that act as gateways which facilitated illegal access to the multinational company’s broadcast signals. “Some items suspected to have been used in pirating the intellectual property were recovered as exhibits,” Mr. Ogunshakin said. According to police records, Mr. Johnson, 28, an apprentice from Abia State was arrested in Shop No. “F” 1377 and the items recovered from him included a strong decoder, 16 open boxes and one UPS. Mr. Ezenwaka, 42, who hails from Anambra State, on the other hand, claimed to be a technician who repairs TVs, LCDs, and DVDs. He is the owner of Shop No. “73″ and the items recovered from him included Avatars and Spider which according to him are Receivers for free to airtransmission. Also, a Laptop and Desktop Computers were recovered, the police said. Mr. Ogunshakin said that the suspects would be charged to court “soonest.” Multichoice, through DSTV, has a monopoly over major programmes and events in Nigeria including the English Premier League , and the full UEFA Champions League . The seemingly high cost of subscription for the DSTV channels makes some Nigerians look for ways to by-pass official and legal routes to access these programs and channels. Officials of Multichoice have in the past explained that moneys paid to get the rights of some of theseexclusive programs and channels, coupled with huge operation costs, lead to the high subscription fees. Lets be guided. |

@Newbies & All. I've noticed that a lot of us keep on asking for the diameter of dish with which to track one bird or the other. In my own small way, i decided to provide this table here to help out for some who don't know or are to busy to check it out. The table below will help you to know the exact dish size recommended for a particular satellite. This is how it works. When u see a new sat or a satellite you want to track from lyngsat, flysat, etc. What u now do is to look for the coverage area of the particular frequency u are after (eg, eastern hermisphere, nwa, mena, c,'pan african, west africa, etc). Now click on the coverage area logo to take you to the map. Its this map dat will now show u the actual physical representation of the satellite beam. On the map also, u will notice that the beam is kind of segmented with different color shades representing different numbers like 30dbw, 45dbw, 60dbw, etc. This is now where the table comes in handy. lets say the beam covering your area is 40dbw C band, from the table, it means dat the ideal dish size to track it would be 140cm. Therefore, any dish from 120cm up should be able to pull it in. As the table is divided between C and KU band, you'll do well to look at the one that applys to the beam you want. Hope this helps out. You can always ask your questions here for more clarifications. I'll try to update this as always as possible. Thanks. @all. I'll crave ur indulgence to put this post at the newbie and FAQ thread. http://www.flysat.com/dish.php Antenna sizes for EIRP outputs. Below is a chart of Effective Isotropic Radiated Power which is transmitted by the satellite in the Ku band and C Band. The other side of the chart is the satellite dish size needed to receive the signal effectively from the satellite transponder to be received. This chart is particularly useful when looking at footprint charts for a particular satellite. Talkwisdom: Can all be nailed using ku band lnb?..i was told satelite name that ends with c can only be nailed using c-band lnb and not ku band lnb...please help me outAll of them are ku band signals. With the new names adorpted by eutelsat, u can't now say dat every name dat ends in C is C band. Most times what u look at is the frequency. If its 4 like 3254, its C band. But if its 5 like 11254, its ku. |
