way to go kano: but maintain caution so the peaceful protest may not be hijacked by miscreants |
dayokanu:As laughable and incredulous as the above seems, going from the clueless chain of events and utterances made, one is tempted to wonder if this might just be the true state of affairs in GEJ's mind. lol. |
Just take a look at GEJ's cabinet and compare it to OBJ's, apart from 1 or 2 people who are actually square pegs in square holes the rest got there through paddy paddy power (many who had failed miserably while holding public offices in the past or at best were mediocre like him-self). Hence when they screw up its hard to change them and being a typical African even if the whole sector is up in flames the person in charge will die before he/she thinks of resigning. |
When you start asking questions on where certain monies are going to all those that eat crumbs from our corrupt govt officials will jump on the thread, take flight of their rational senses and start posting illogical arguments that is hard to comprehend how any sane man can make, |
Hi all, please don't get me wrong from the on-set, am not a prophet of doom but if their is any one contemplating suicide cause of the hardship around he/her hasn't seen any thing yet. 2012 (maybe cause of the mayen prophecy:i dont know) is going to be a whole lot worse than anything 2011 ever brought up. Dont ask me why but thank God majority of Nigerians are resilient as some one said earlier probably cause the average Nigerian will rather live a lie than face up to his reality hence the cliche suffering and smiling. |
There is therefore no petrol subsidy. Rather, there is a high sales tax of 91.2% at current prices of N65 per litre. The labor leaders meeting the President should go with their economists. They should send economists and political scientists as representatives to the Senate Committee investigating the petroleum subsidy issue. There are many expert economists and political scientists in ASUU who will gladly represent the view of the majority. The labor leaders should not let anyone get away with the economic fallacy that the swapped oil is free while its refined products must be sold at international prices in the Nigerian domestic market. The government should explain at what price the swapped crude oil was sold and where the money accruing from these sales have been kept. We have done this simple economic analysis of the Nigerian petroleum products market to show that there is no petrol subsidy what so ever. In the end, this debate on petrol subsidy and the attempt of the government to transfer wealth from the Nigerian masses to a petrol cabal will be decided in the streets. Nigerian workers, farmers, students, market women, youths, unemployed, NGO and civil society as a whole should prepare for a long harmattan season of protracted struggle. They should not just embark on 3 days strike/protests after which the government reduces the hiked petroleum prices by a few Nairas. They must embark upon in a sustainable struggle that will lead to fundamental changes. Let us remove our entire political subsidy from the government and end this petroleum products subsidy debate once and for all. It is time to bring the Arab Spring south. Emmado if there is anything this GEJ and his cronies are averse to its detailed transparent analysis of their clandestine operations, that said i hope organized labour can get their acts together and present their case with cold facts and figures. Also i still wonder what amount of abuse we as a people will have to go through in the hands of those we elected into office before we actual start fighting for whats ours and stop smiling and suffering! |
I laugh in my language: A government that can not tackle the CABAL, Secure the borders to prevent smuggling of the product, Explain how 250 billion jumped to 1+ trillion, by now has no detailed road map on how subsidy money will be spent, even after all the heated debate still is too incompetent to present a winning case, is suppose to be trusted to secure the future of me and over 160 million Nigerians? NIGGER PLEASE! |
@ mulumele: If you feel they are worth much more then i guess its purpose is served; Also Thanks for the blessings! |
Some one gave a lateral thinking assignment and as an addendum to the issues raised in that post i would like to type down my 2 cents questions for what its worth: 1: A govt that was challenged to find other means of saving the economy and seems to lazy or just incompetent to be able to do so is suppose to be trusted with judicious use of the cash saved by implementing the subsidy ![]() 2: On paper the merits may look good but so does my C.V. and all other developmental programs Nigeria has had since green revolution in the 60's but how many of these developmental programs, SAP inclusive were implemented effectively as it was proposed to the nation? 3: If they know how much trillion will be saved why has it been difficult for them to release a detailed budget with timelines on how much of that money will be spent on what before what time so their argument can have more weight? or have they not thought of it cause they couldn't be bothered in the first place knowing accountability. monitoring and evaluation are not poplar buzz words to this particular project?? instead he gives all this ambiguous projects with out time lines, (funniest is employing 20,000 out of millions in each state) 4:Considering 1-3 above is it safe to assume their is a bigger picture the govt is not letting us in on ![]() In summary if the dutch disease that has plagued us all these years cos of over reliance on this sector is removal of subsidy the magic wand that would set right all that is wrong in that sector and by extension the nation or innovative, technology driven re-construction of the other sectors of the economy ![]() |
Like some guru once said (cant remember his name now). "Nothing happens in an organization, until a sale of its goods or service is made". I guess that goes to show how important the sales chap is, |
There is nothing wrong with the religion of Islam. For those of you using very poor, illiterate Hausa Muslims to condemn the whole religion, how would you feel if Turkish, Saudi, or Persian Muslims use you to mock Christianity? Not to talk of all those North African countries which are way better off than naija. Some particular interpretations of it aren't compatible with modern life. But that doesn't mean all interpretations sucks, or the religion as a whole is evil. Malaysia and Indonesia (in addition to the countries mentioned earlier) are doing a helluva lot better than we are. Anyway, religion should not be the focus. Quality, modern education and best practices should be the focus. And FWIW, I'm a Christian myself.
Even when you try not to make it the focus it still is intricately interwoven with all those other parameters you mentioned hence inseparable. I do believe this can not go on for ever, the days of the charlatans are numbered and they know this. North or South Nigerians should hold their Government accountable and you will see less of this madness |
From all that has been discussed it may seem the almajiri's are the immediate cause of the problem but the more present and clear danger is; if the almajiri's are zombies as many call them who are those responsible for turning them into such ![]() I think that's where our attention should be focused, hate filled, intolerant, extremist mallams or Imams who teach a Koran they dont even understand, spreading hate filled messages against Christians. regarding them as infidel and only fit for the slaughter. If you have imams that will truly interpret the Koran to this almajiris no politician can use them. I also want to believe there is a spiritual dimension to it if not how else would you explain the fact that amongst the learned Muslim nairalanders only a handful have come out to condemn the atrocities committed by CPC and spoke against their leader? Majority of them are citing rigging as an excuse for crimes committed against the innocent minority as if they have taken a vow never to speak against the act of another Muslim no matter how dastardly. (is there anywhere that suspected rigging is punishable by death?) Honestly is beyond almajiri's. I think there is a strong spirit that goes with Islam and its followers educated or not, that all the reasoning in Nairaland will never comprehend. |
If anyone associated with MEND is eventually convicted for the bombing should GEJ be charged with perverting the course of justice? By all means yes! |
@ Gbawe; I believe the international media and groups did some work on that witch children saga and by all means if you feel more has to be done then roll up your sleeves and start a campaign your self. That is what the poster has decided to do than just sit on the side lines and whine. i don't think its too difficult to respect the posters view on this. This goes for every one that feels injustice is being carried out in other issues un-related to this; Do something about it and stop this crab mentality of trying to pull the man down! |
Where is the condemnation for GEJ over how no one is ever brought to justice except low-level henchmen? Why does Papabrowne , now full of self-righteous anger , not lead the march to force GEJ to resign given his numerous failings , as C-in-C, to protect Nigerian lives and property? How , for example , can Buhari be indicted in any Court when he has condemned the violence? Guys like Papabrowne are just a disappointment because , in times of chaos and uncertainty , it is those who are wise and pragmatically steadfast who should keep the peace and refrain from emotional and vacuous grandstanding that heat up an already volatile situation. When did Buhari come out to condemn the violence that started as far back as Sunday? As far as i know he did that on Wednesday when the northern carnage was well spent, am in Kano, he had the chance on Aljazira on Monday morining to denouce the violence before Kano exploded but he avoided the question By the caster bout what he had to say to his supportes and answerd by talking bout rigged votes. Yes the FG and primarily state governments of the respective Northern states should also be prosecuted and compensation paid to all aggrieved |
I would like to use this forum to appeal to all Governors especially those in the core North to not just pay lip service to security but increase MILITARY presence in strategic areas of their respective states because this those Almajiri's are no longer scared of the police and i think happenings in Egypt and other Arab countries have heightened their courage to accomplish what ever carnage they set in mind to do. |
For all those spewing rubbish about Buhari being innocent cos he came out to condemn the violence (way too late) let me enlighten you all We woke up in kano monday morning to the news of violence by cpc supporters in kaduna and neighboring Zaria, then i posted on my face book status @ bout 8am that he needs to hold a press confrence denouncing the violence and asking his supporters to maintain calm as there is a risk of riots spreading to Kano (Almajiris that were selling pure water at my place of work had already started spreading the news of what was imminent as they would rather go plunder in the name of CPC than make a honest living). @ 9am Buhari was interviewed by aljazira when the caster asked him point blank "What do you have to say to your supporters that are causing violence in northern states?" . Instead of addressing the question Buhari went on to talk about how the computer in Kano and Kaduna state deleted 40% of his votes (as though that was reason enough for carnage by his supporters) When asked if he can substantiate his claim he pointed to his field agents (as if they were suppose to tell him other wise)? one hour after that interview when he had the opportunity on an international media to condemn the violence but rather went on to talk about a phantom unverifiable 40% of votes, this is what happened in Kano: 200 people confirmed Dead homes of the emir and several PDP elites burned 40,000 people misplaced 1000's of homes and shops belonging to settlers in the most part looted and burned to ashes almost all churches out side sabon-gari burned and yours truly still sleeping in the office and unable to go home amongst other monstrosity space and time will not permit my fingers to type. he only came on any recorded media on Wednesday (2days after D-day) or at best Tuesday but that i doubt to condemn the violence. The enlightend muslims i have as friends would answer, like their presidential candidate of majority choice here in kano, that the election was rigged, if asked why such carnage, the question i have for you muslims in the forum is was it churches, homes, biznesses and lifes of hard working Nigerians that rigged the election ?You may also argue that the protest was hijaked by Almajiri's, then my question is why start such a protest in a state with such a high propensity of violence from years back? and when the Almajiri's took over the show what did the Imams, mai-angwas and other influential local leaders do to protect the life's and property of minority in their midst? Thirdly can supporters of the CPC crying foul now claim they did not rig by using under-aged voters? Na who holy pass? In my opinion Buhari should be standing trial in the hague for political crimes instead of contesting any result and all CPC chieftains including his running mate, Tunde Bakare. But even if he escapes human justice divine justice is round the corner, Thank you for your Patience! As for the Almajiri Phenomenon, an institution that took the developmental years of these zealots to build their current mindset cant just be changed overnight, Until then, there cant be even relative peace in the north as the sheer population of this Almajiri's is a potent weapon in the hands of self serving political leaders posing as religious reformers (Karl maxx: religion is the opium of these people) |
He who has never been provoked to the point of retaliation should throw the first stone @ Etuhu! |
Abayomin70:i guess that's because most of what is highlighted by the poster actually doesn't have any impact in Nigeria's paddy paddy labour market where less than 5% of jobs are actually won on merit and that most of the times are foreign organizations. Still good points in settings where they are relevant! |
tammyl:Are these numbers to any network or glo numbers only? |
What can i say? the rest of the world is only just experiencing what has been evident in this country way before the financial crises and now is so much worse that the government dare not even give a realistic unemployment rate, for in comparison to Tunisia and Egypt their unemployment figures will be like a drop in a bucket compared to what we have in Nigeria cos as a country and a region (west Africa) we haven't even gotten the basics right; 1)development of human capital. 2)Protection of intellectual property. 3)A judicial system that does not inspire confidence. 4)reversing the effect of the dutch disease, 5)Non-transparency nor accountability of public office holders. 6)A non efficient monitoring and evaluation dept at all tiers of government. 7) Seeming inability to set-up infrastructures that attract F.D.I. 9) Need for a transparent and stable democratic machinery. too many mini-markets in the west African region, borders, currencies, and laws which all adds to the cumbersomeness of moving goods from one border to the other, inconvenience of changing currencies, adapting to different business laws all in a market that does not pull much financial weight in the continent.the list could go on but i guess this gives any one a clue of how daunting the task ahead is for our governments in this region cos compared to other governments its like we have not started. |
Pharoh:@ pharoh: I understand your sentiments but do you think focusing on service differentiation in the telecom industry is not the best competitive strategy to follow? which net work can boast it has a really distinct differential advantage so in this light price is the way to go and glo has been able to achieve that by technological enhancement (glo main one cable) which is geared at increasing service quality and reducing operational cost;this they have translated and continue to translate to consumers by affordable tarrif packages which in turn creates customer satisfaction by providing superior value and this leads to loyalty, word of mouth advertising and repeat partronage increasing thier market share and revenue stream. @ the end customer happy, glo happy. As for brand advantage they have been positioned in most people's mind as the liberator of the exploitated by introducing per second billing and lots more, also as being the only national carrier they have a distinct advantage to position the brand as truely Nigerian! |
SMHSeriously though, it seems anything can trigger ethnic and religious conflicts in Nigeria except the actions of our elite lootocrats. I can't wait for the day my folks will drop the weapons, quit fighting themselves for a while, and join hands together to fight their looter-leaders, The real enemies.
Its really funny how we have just enough zealousness in religion to hate each other to the point of murder but not enough love for God to love and live in peace with each other; (we all inclusive just have a form of Godliness but we deny the power there of) this is the kind of response i would have expected when it was revealed to us how much our senators take home after each quater, the type of response i expect on how the government has squandered the billions we had in excess crude oil funds, type of response i expect from tax paying christians and muslims who can't even get basic amenities from thier respective state governments. Certainly ot the type of response i expected over a bleeding game of billards! |
Personally am not about the economical sense of doling out such sum at this time or the ulterior motives of the govt behind such an action, am just glad that the everday people are getting something, cos 1 thing am sure of is if he doesn't give it out to civil servants those thieving public office holders would still sink thier fangs in it one way or the other so better it went this way! |
the bugatti should be $2.5milly why is her own costing $2mill? http://www.?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.forbes.com%2Fglobal%2F2010%2F1220%2Flife-autos-bugatti-veyron-sports-cars-beautiful-monster.html%3Fpartner%3Dfbwall&h=c09ba |
@ Kobojunkie: that post is all bull shit! @ wealth123:yes they will face Gods judgement but that wasn't designed for this life time and until then what we fold our hands and watch![]() |
ifyegede:The truth is beyond making post on forums like this, the only arms the common man is left with is listed above, organised labour should demand transparency and consequently accountability of these politicians or ground the economy to a halt while instigating an all out war from the citizens against all public office holders who have been found wanting (one would think the kidnappers were even doing a public service till it became petty), but then i guess we live in a country where every one still answers His/Her father's name. |
almoner:Thier role? loot till they kapoot! OCCULTIST:Guess thats why Larry King made his infamous quote "Nigeria; a blessed land with a cursed 2makesense:Talk about having a track record of performance; Just goes to show how myopic and retrogresive the concept of zoning is. okeyxyz:Preach preacher! |
SSaemoenl:Funny how must guys that go sexy>beautiful> ends up with her being a hoe, i guess other guys also want a piece of the action! ![]() |
Phate07: |
@ specialist; unless you are a die hard i think you are fighting a battle that is already lost, for all you know she may be un-responsive cos she could be getting married next week, phate07 why would a girl go flirt around (not necessarily have sex but do shit) and when she is found out will still be claiming she loves you? what is the best response if after a year she is still coming back with all the emotional" i still haven't been able to get you off my mind" crap? |
Most comments are hilarious to say the least but then is that the way majority of Nigerians view this country and the way the leaders are running it? and if so do the leaders even give a hoot what the ordinary Nigerian think bout their leadership? |

too many mini-markets in the west African region, borders, currencies, and laws which all adds to the cumbersomeness of moving goods from one border to the other, inconvenience of changing currencies, adapting to different business laws all in a market that does not pull much financial weight in the continent.
