Politics › The Widow's Mite Of Our Leaders From the Past To the Present. by olu77(op): 12:34am On Jan 21, 2011
Wise ladies and gentlemen of Nairaland, I know the popular opinions of average Nigerians is that all our leaders since independence have done little or nothing to move the nation forward but can we go back memory lane to examine the few little things that individual presidents (military or democratic), governors (military or democratic)  lawmakers, ministers, ambassadors etc. have at least contributed which has affected our lives positively. Kindly, mention names, contributions and period of such positive contributions if possible.

Thanks, great minds.

Horayce:
I love hawks quite frankly. Hawks are good, how utterly colorless and dull my life would have been without hawks I've had to overcome - I probably would have been one over fed fat agric foul by now. I don't need to worship any of the 3800 gods and religions that currently exist to protect me from a hawk.

It's no use getting drawn into any debate with you. From experience, most religious folks are set in their beliefs and I respect that. But people should learn to question their beliefs and ask important questions about the world they live in .

I honestly hope you wake up from your delusion someday
He is not one of the 3800 gods you referred to, He is the GOD that created you, you are not here by accident. I pray He would have mercy on you and reveal himself to you. The earlier you find him the best because you will forever wish you had discovered the truth long ago. He is God of gods no power, no force can limit him there is no degree of argument that can either change or move him.

Knowing God is the best thing that has ever happened to me, His favour, mercy and grace surround me and my family. I have learn to trust Him because He is ever faithful. Whatever happens, I only need to remind him of His covenant.

My prayer is: Lord in your great mercy reveal yourself to those who do not know you, those who have concluded in their heart that you do not exist; like you revealed yourself to Saul and changed his name to Paul, do it again that these precious lives may not perish in their unbelief.

Intelligence, in the women dictionary, is the ability to successfully convince your woman you have to spend more time in the office with your secretary and return late in the night daily without her even suspecting any foul play. A man is not intelligent when he can not make a lie sound 100% like the truth.

If I were a woman I will go with "fear of God"

@olu77
This is the problem, you said: Before Ngige clinched the governorship post in Anambra, he would cheerfully wipe Uba's backside of every poo after every download despite the godfather's dirty smelling backside but immediately he got what he wanted, he started kicking the same backside so hard.

You shouldn't have to "cheerfully wipe. . .backside" to get to power. Nobody is suggesting you don't play politics, but you cannot compromise the way you describe above.

What became of Ngige? Yes, he worked hard as governor, but he became governor by fraudulent means and got kicked out. You think GEJ will fair better with his excessive reliance on corrupt governors and national assembly members - since you mentioned the latter, how does he plan to control them? He will simply get impeached, like almost happened to Ngige, or his election will be annulled - and you know who will provide the evidence to the courts? Correct, those same "godfathers" he is relying on to win the election - they will protect their backside too (no pun intended).

It may yet turn out that GEJ is the best option in this election, but things are not looking as competitive for him vs. Buhari right now. If Buhari shows concrete vision (which I haven't seen beyond the "mythical" corruption fighting powers he possesses) and address certain other issues it would be hard for GEJ to beat him. The northern elite may be so desperate that they would jump on Buhari's bandwagon to support their "zoning" policy, except that they may be even more afraid of what Buhari would do to them than GEJ.
You are right about the wrong attitude of pretending-to-get-to-power because in those periods the worst damage is done.
Politics › Re: I Don’t Trust Jonathan –tunde Bakare by olu77(m): 2:02am On Jan 11, 2011
GEJ reminds me of Ngige & Uba's scenario. Before Ngige clinched the governorship post in Anambra, he would cheerfully wipe Uba's backside of every poo after every download despite the godfather's dirty smelling backside but immediately he got what he wanted, he started kicking the same backside so hard. If u are being fooled by a gentle president always sitting silently before his laptop charting with some rude facebook brats wait till after the election.

As far as I am concern, the real problem of this country are those lawless lawmakers wasting our precious time making useless, dumb, silly and senseless laws that would only fill their pockets with more ill-gotten wealth, believe me they would frustrate Buhari to the extent he might end up handling over to AL-queda.

GEJ is not a dictator, he is a democrat but if we desire another tyrant we would all still be here to witness the consequence.

Christianity Etc › Re: Church Gate Fee: Pastors Condemn Oyakhilome by olu77(m): 1:07am On Jan 11, 2011
I am not a member of Christ Embassy but I have come to discover that the news paper, the pastors and the commentators here are just too harsh and full of judgment. I don't know why we Christians just don't like one another as though Christ is not one. Some of the Journalists will soon be called by God and be elevated to become like pastor Chris then they would know the effect of deliberate, negative reporting. Meanwhile some so called men of God are just too angry, full of beef that they are fast becoming stumbling blocks to others. This is the reason why many churches are empty because the pastors are too harsh, without love and quick to judge.

Try to understand my point I am not saying the action of Christ Embassy was right but two wrongs can not make a right.  It is glaring to everyone that a lot of other men of God and commentators from other churches are over reacting and abusive over this matter.

VolvoS60:
People sometimes get the kind of society they deserve.

I admit that life in Nigeria is so difficult that we find humor in the most unlikely places (just to maintain our sanity). For this reason, the jokes being made about the alleged assault of the comedians by soldiers do not surprise me. But we HAVE to draw the line at some point.  For over 4 decades, Nigerians have lived with frequent displays of casual brutality by uniformed men. Random acts of sometimes extreme violence by these men (whose uniforms are bought with taxpayers money) have become part and parcel of Nigerian society.

Until we all decide that this kind of behaviour MUST stop, we will not go anywhere.

In case some of us have forgotten, soldiers played a huge part in kickstarting (and accelerating) this country's descent into hell. The senior officers robbed all of us blind during their stints as armies of occupation, while the NCOs and junior members of the thoroughly jaundiced force called the Nigerian army/navy/airforce get their kicks out of beating civilians senseless on the streets. And some of us cheer them on and make excuses for their behaviour.  Where is the outrage?

Its up to us. As long as we tolerate it, the oppression will continue.
Volvo, u are right let's all match to their barrack, with u leading, when we get there we'll demand they all prostrate & apologize in chorus grin grin grin. On a serious note u made a potent point except - who will bell the cat?

Politics › Re: Fashola Suspends Lekki Expressway Toll Collection by olu77(m): 12:52am On Dec 31, 2010
Why should people pay for toll when they cant trust the government they have? its sounds like encouraging embezzlement down here, what has the government done for the common man, even if u find out the brains behind this fraudulent tactics, the LCC will belong to either Tinubu or his allies. Fashola is only doing this because of the election that is in focus believe me, once he wins the election, the fist thing he will do is commence the toll collection.

The truth is that al FAshola's policies is focussed on making life easier for the oppressors(the rich), while the poor are beign unjustly driven away from where they earn their token so it will be easier for the rich to pass through.

do we really need flower and christmas decoration when there are lots of damaged roads in Agege and Alimosho to mention a few among all the local governments. he has not really done a major project like constructing a much needed overhead bridge along Abule egba road or those around there doesnt deserve dividend of democracy too.

I am not anti Fashola but only a compassionate fellow who is not so selfish like you despite living in one of those commuinities where the so called dividend of democracy is felt.

The other day i was driving i wept when i saw the woman at ikeja that use to sell apple to me suddenly became purewater hawker because KAI seized and destroyed her goods.

so many market women displaced at Oshodi are now road sweepers in IKoyi and V.I etc.

The question is 'dont the poor deserve the brighter and rewarding future too'?

I know bunch of selfish oppressors will start insulting me, but remember we are only fortunate to be where we are and think about it that you could have been in those people's shoes too.

I believe there are better ways to govern with equality because as far as i am concern this government is bias,

I appeal to all my dudes right here to always extend a hand of helps to the needy, and God bless you as you do this,

Politics › Re: Obasanjo Collapses In Church by olu77(m): 12:46am On Dec 29, 2010
Having read every comment I have come to this conclusion that the only reason men who are suppose to be accountable to us are holding us to ransom is because we are not united and since they have infected us with this virus call corruption, we'll continue to show sympathy for evil leaders who do not have peace even with their own conscience. I know it is not a easy task, to rule a country like Nigeria but the major problem of this country is still leadership. Since independence we have been recycling the same old leaders who have done this nation no good. Why is Jerry Rawlings not trying to come back to power in Ghana? Why has Nelson Mandela not turn himself to a godfather and play a do or die politics in South Africa?

I may not have black on white evidence but I strongly believe that 80% of the total assets of Nigeria is owned by thesame past and present leaders whose children school in best universities abroad while our educational sector is gradually folding up. Most of our so called leaders today had free education during the colonial missionary era while today, state universities are beginning to compete with private universities - owned by thesame churches we attend - in high tuition fees , for how long are we going to continue to nurse sentiments for wolves?

When Babangida refused to attend Oputa panel what happened? What did the then president do? After all, why should the pot call the kettle black. We need a president that neither have anything to hide nor a godfather to obey.

The solution to the problem of this nation is not for everyone to vote alone. Tell me, in what election has our votes ever count? The solution is not prayer alone -  faith without action is void abi did Goliath just died without David taking any action. Solution will come when we all agreed we have never had a leader in this country and hence in one voice say enough is enough all of them should go whether to hell or exile we don't care.

Enahoro, Gani Fawehinmi, etc have died they are on the positive section of history. Abacha died and he is buried forever on the negative section sad, tomorrow will tell where OBJ will be after ruling for 12years.  sad
