Nairaland General › Re: A Huge Crocodile Was Captured In Omole Estate (Lagos) by olu77(m): 1:39pm On Jan 05, 2014
Jakumo: That is an African Dwarf Crocodile, whose diet consists primarily of snails, fish and rodents. These nocturnal creatures, which do not exceed about 6 feet in length when mature, are very timid, and would NEVER stalk a human being. As a kid, I learned to swim in a river that was home to many of these gentle and now critically endangered animals, which would roar now and then, but were never seen during the day. To get a Dwarf crocodile to bite, one would have to corner it and actually try to grab it, because, unlike its larger cousin the half-ton Nile Crocodile, this species will ALWAYS flee, if given that option.

Obviously, the habitat this rapidly dwindling enclave of wildlife occupies in Lagos is being destroyed to make way for the sprawling development of human hordes, who, in their usual ignorance, become hysterical and blood-thirsty at the sight of any living beings besides other humans. Too bad there are no zoos in Nigeria, besides the human zoo, because the fate of all wildlife in the country will ultimately be to die at the hands of screeching mobs, and then to be eaten by greedy mouths.
Our level of ignorance is too high in this part of the world. We have people in town planning who are not doing their jobs, many of these swampy areas where houses are been erected at all cost should have been preserved and fenced off for wildlife. We spend years in schools and fail to understand the importance of our environment and the ecosystem. According to an expert, “Crocodiles are known as the species that clean up the river as they eat carcasses of other species and balance its population in the habitat. These had been seen as a major role to ensure rivers are functioning smoothly" http://www.theborneopost.com/2012/04/01/crocodiles-play-important-role-in-ecosystem/

Everything you wrote is right Op. It is not self service it is rather self destruction, most people will not face the reality. It is an addiction that's hard to break and it also leads to memory loss. It is a destructive web most of us men young and old are entangled in, even those who pretend to be saints; it doesn't matter whether you are a bishop or an imam. This addiction is not what any sane person should be proud of.

It won't make any difference whether he is from your village or not, simply because these guys don't give a damn how we feel. The same issues affect us all (the rest of us): electricity, unemployment, ASUU's consistent strike, high cost of living etc. How does any of these affect the guys up there? We just waste our precious time and energy abusing each other here while they plot against us.

It is an error by a Turkish airline plane.

Everything is okay in nigeria until there are casualtiesis and even when casualties are not more than 2 or 3 it can still be excused. Is prevention not better than cure? We must join hand to do the right thing in this country and condemn everything that is threat to our life. We neither invent nor make these planes, we acquire them but ignore all safety precauions stipulated by the manufacturers to avoid disasters.

A player in the industry is telling us that we need white men to manage our aviation industry yet many of us are discarding it as a rasist coment. Do we often put ourselves in the shoes of those who have lost their loved ones in these frequent mishaps. Our major problem in Africa is that we don't have values for human life. We even need to employ foreign presidents and senates, like we do in football, to lead us, I'm very sure they will do much more to secure our lives and properties than all these self-centered, careless and clueless people we patronize as leaders.

These old people should save the youths all these dramas. At a time when education is being relegated and unemployment is at it's peak, they are contented with shameless and senseless dramas. We used to be people who are cultured, they have destroyed our African moral values. They encourage leaders of tomorrow to go into prostitution, violent cultic activities, child marriage and all sort of perversion in other to derail us from thinking straight. As close as they are to their graves, these elders only have legacies of chaos, confusion, division and corruption to leave behind. Young people, it's time we begin to think, independently, how to rescue our nation from these men and women who are confused, blind and lost, since we no longer have role models.

He couldn't maintain a relationship with her because she was 'evil' and yet he can maintain a lifetime friendship! Na wah.
There is actually a very big difference between relationship and friendship, I can choose not to answer her calls or see her. In relationship there are no such choices, you are in bondage until you decide to break free. Believe it or not I dated that girl for four years and in all the four years I did not toast any other girl how much more sleep with one all because I believe in commitment. And all those while, I believed she was thesame way because she made me trust her.

What I learnt from my experience is, the way u start  a relationship matters. If as a man you show sign of weakness at the beginning of a relationship the girl would take advantage of you and any attempt to change things would result in an undesirable experience.

*Shakes my head vigorously*
Na this kind unnecessary love dey embolden women to misbehave. I'm too awe-jawed to say anything sef. With all the billions of women in the world, men would still break their precious heads over ONE inconsequential woman?
There are species of men who are just too soft and find it very difficult to change their nature, I am one of them. I strongly believe that by God's grace I will enjoy my marriage and have a very happy home despite my nature.

armyofone:
i don't know if all the guys posting here do have sisters? will you allow a man to beat your sister to a pulp like that?

someome wanted to eat my head for asking why he didn't leave the house when she came in with her trouble. leaving at that time frame when there was a quarrel would have been the best thing. the animal in him wanted to fight back a ''woman''

aha!! you guys crack me up, anyway i live in a country where domestic fight is not tolerated. so am cool and no need to argue here.
And I don't know if you have a brother? Will you allow a woman to ruin your brother, uncle or a close friend you know is a gentleman just to meet her own selfish ambition?

As the saying goes experience is the best teacher. I had a girlfriend a few years back who through her aggressiveness I learnt that there are ladies who view your tolerance and gentility as weakness and it irritates them. Anyime there is argument and she becomes aggressive if I keep silent she would start hitting me for not saying a word if I talk she would find one fault or the other with what I said. Whenever there is a quarrel and I tried to leave the room she would lock the door and dare me to retrieve the key by force. We weren't even married. she would lock me up all through the day. Her friends and everyone in her family knew she was like that.

I met her in school, I could not talk to even my male friends without her permission. She also go through my phone call history every evening. One day there was a quarrel she locked the door to the apartment and threaten to kill me with a knife she fetched from the kitchen That was the first and the only time I ever slapped a girl in my live. I managed to pin her down and collect the knife. In the process I sustain injury all over my body. Ever after, she never stopped talking about the slap I gave her that day irrelevant of my many injuries. Despite all these I wanted to marry her if God had not answered my mother's prayer: another guy impregnated her, she aborted  it and claimed she went to the hospital to threat typhoid which I paid for before my in investigation revealed the truth. I was probably the most stupid guy back then, because I still loved her so I gave her one condition to tell me the truth that she did abortion but instead she went into manipulation in her usual aggressive way.

Sincerely, I loved her and I could tell she also loved me but when ever she started her madness she could kill. I think she was obsessive. Till date we are still friends though there is nothing intimate between us.

@JENIFA:
I'm just really glad that he has being relived of his position.

like most posters have said (even though they sided him), he sounds dumb . ex.he says he married a loud obnoxious woman because her nature complimented his own gentle caring personality.
then he said that he wife cheated on him and barred him from entering his house and seeing the kids kids but then went back to her after he became an ambassador to honor her. does that make any sense?
If this man were to be your Uncle or your Brother I wonder if the above would still be your final stand. Think deep, would you be happy he was relieved of his appointment, if he were your mentor or the bread winner in your family? I have seen from experience that there are actually men who by nature are not aggressive. On the other hand there are women naturally stronger, aggressive and stubborn than most men.

Your opinion of men is too harsh. It may sound silly or dumb but the real love is loving someone that is considered unloveable through common sense and I strongly believe that is the situation here; he still loved her despite her negative attitude.  Many weak men always end up with this type of women.

I also think it's too early to judge, police should carry out a proper investigation.
Education › Re: Is It A Sin To Be Intelligent? by olu77(m): 4:13pm On May 29, 2011
Young man, develop a learning spirit, learn to be humble even if you know better than your teachers try as much as you can to always transfer the credit to them. Give genuine complements, make other people feel good about themselves. Listen all the time, rarely talk. There are still a lot more to learn.

To be sincere with you, the fastest way to kill whatever intelligence you think you possess at the moment is to flaunt it. As far as i am concern intelligence without common sense or wisdom will always get you into trouble. In other words be intelligent but let people figure it out in your humility not by being restless and trying to be in charge.

I hope my advise and those of others would help but pls feel free to discard mine without taking any offense if you don't find it useful.

Character is higher than intellect.  ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Politics › The Weeping General by olu77(op): 1:19am On Apr 15, 2011
Retired General Mohamodu Buhari, recently joined the league of leaders, who for whatever reason had wept publicly in their life time.

This event has brought back the memory of "The Weeping Generals"; a rare movie directed and produced by The late General Sani Abacha between 1997 and 1998, Featuring General Oladipo Diya, Major-General Abdulkarim Adisa and few others. The movie which was premiered at the Aso Rock cinema saw our royal fathers in their traditional robes sat at the gallery to enjoy a true life story acted by unusual actors. Some of our Amala politics crooner were also privileged to be paid (instead of the other way round) to view the movie, highly rated by them.

The royal fathers, especially the Oni of Ife, latter commended the skilled producer - whose boys also got kudos, for the innovatory conversion of another General's back to ironing board - for a job well done.  The death of the talented producer few months later, purportedly from the forbidden fruit served by an imported eve, robbed the rest of us the privilege of watching the movie as a home video.

Son of the late producer, who was also said to have participated behind the scene in the controversial movie, is a gubernatorial candidate of the latest, weeping general's party.

The question is: are u  cry cry cry with General Buhari or  grin grin grin with Tinubu - the new possessor of laughter license?

Sagamite:
That said, I am not an atheist and do not agree with Hawkins conclusion, I am just so gaddam very objective hence I confront any lame point I see even if it against an argument I don't support.
Sagamite, I'm glad to hear you are not an atheist meaning you are conscious of the existence of God. you are right about many being Christians because they are born into it but few others have encountered Christ and that is why I could talk about love because the Bible says "love your neighbour as yourself" notice that there is no condition given. Why didn't the bible say "love your neighbour as yourself if they practice the same religion you practice or if they believe in your God"

The message I am trying to pass across is, I can not force people to believe in my God but I can persuade them to if the way I act, speak and relate with others portray my God in good light. Because you can not see him, I am his representative, his image and therefore if I say he is a kind God I need to show kindness or if I come to you and claim to be a representative of a loving God I need to show love and not be hateful.

Sagamite, you are my brother and you make a lot of sense though the wisdom of this world is foolishness before my God - The God of heaven and earth, the beginning and the end.

I don't ever have to defend God, he does not need anyone to defend him. He does what ever pleases him; our way is not his way neither are our thoughts his thoughts so, u'll just drain yourself out trying to defend him. meanwhile, as a Christian I don't think I would ever succeed in changing atheists by engaging them in abusive arguments. I have come to realize that people are never born atheist, they turn so due to challenges that is above their faith or by reading wrong literatures. Pray that you don't find yourself in a situation where most atheist today found themselves before they embrace atheism. Come to think of it, in reality, some of us will never believe in God too if we are in Stephen Hawking's shoe. If truly we are Christians and we believe in the love of God we would stop condemning and judging these people it would not change their heart. We can only win anybody for Christ through LOVE and showing good examples.
