HealthThe Facts About Condoms by oluvick(op): 2:51pm On Feb 12, 2015
Why are we seeing such a declining trend in
condom use?

At the individual level condoms remain unsexy.
Many men won’t use them because they believe
they reduce sexual pleasure and many women are
afraid to ask their partners to use them for fear of
being called a slut and possibly facing violence.

Are condoms really effective?
If used correctly and consistently, condoms are
highly effective. They act as a barrier to prevent
partners coming into contact with each other's
sexual secretions.

I am told that some condoms burst during
intercourse. What may cause condoms to burst?

Condom bursting may be due to:
• Friction caused by lack of pre-intimacy
• Incorrect use such as failure to squeeze the
air out of the tip when putting the condom on to
create space for the semen
• Using the wrong lubrication, i.e. Vaseline or
other oil-based products, which weakens the
latex

Is it necessary to use condoms when one is HIV
positive?

• Yes, even when both the partners are infected,
to avoid re-infection. Everyone’s virus is slightly
different, using people's own DNA to replicate.
Re-infection adds strain on the immune system,
weakening it.
• If one partner is negative and the other
positive, it is important to maintain condom use
to ensure that the HIV negative partner does not
contract the virus.

Why do some people develop irritations when
they use condoms?

Some people are allergic to the latex from which
condoms are made. However, in circumstances
where irritation continues seek medical attention
or access condoms which are made of other
materials such as polyurethane (plastic).

Does using two condoms at the same time
provide double protection?

No. One condom if used correctly is enough to
provide you with adequate protection.

Does using both a male and female condom at
the same time provide more protection?

No. A couple can decide to use either a male or
female condom but not both at the same time.
The friction between the two rubber surfaces can
lead to damage

Is it okay to apply Vaseline on a condom for
lubrication?

No. Vaseline and other oil-based lubricants such
as baby oil weaken the rubber and cause the
condom to tear.

Can a condom be ineffective before its expiry
date?

Yes. Depending on how it is handled/ stored, a
condom can lose its effectiveness before the
expiry date if stored in hot or damp place or
exposed to direct sunlight. Make sure you don’t
keep condoms in your wallet.

Can an expired condom offer protection if
doubled?

No. Condoms will have lost their measured
effectiveness three years from the stipulated date
of manufacture.

Do condoms cause cancer?
No. There is no scientific evidence linking cancer
to condom use.

Can one condom be used more than once?
No. A condom should be used once and disposed
of.

Can a condom fit small and big penis sizes?
Yes. A condom has the capacity to expand and fit
all sizes for adult sexually active persons. Men
with large joysticks might find larger condoms
more comfortable.

For how long can one condom be used in a
sexual intercourse?

A condom remains effective for one round of sex.

Can one get infected with STIs/HIV during the
process of removing a condom after a sexual
intercourse?

It is possible for infection to occur if you have
wounds or sores on your fingers which might
come into contact with sexual fluids or if one
cleaning cloth is used for both partners.

Is true that some people get infected with STIs in
spite of using condoms consistently?

Using a condom correctly and consistently
protects from most sexually transmitted
infections. It is possible to be infected during
other sex acts such as MouthAction. You can also be
infected with some STIs through contact with
infected blood.

What should a person do when a partner objects
to condom use?

Ideally, be assertive and say “No condom no sex!”
Try to educate your partner on the great benefits
of condom use, such as prolonged erection.

Should married couples also use condoms?
Yes for several reasons. People may not be aware
of each other’s HIV status; one of the partners
might be cheating; condom usage is encourage in
couples that are sero-discordant and condoms
are also an excellent form of birth control for
couples choose to space out their pregnancies.

Why do some condoms have a bad smell?
The bad smell may be due to chemical
compounds which were not washed out during
the production process, some condoms have a
rubber-related smell unless they are scented.

Which is the best condom to use?
Which is the best soap to use if you need to get
clean? ALL condoms distributed by the
Department of Health and HIV organisations are
effective. Make sure they have not expired by
checking the date stamp before use. There are
lots of brands available so try a few to work out
which ones you prefer.

Do condoms make sex less pleasurable?
No. In fact many people report feeling freer and
more relaxed during sex because they aren’t
worrying about infection. There is also the added
benefit of prolonged erection for many men. Used
properly and consistently, condoms can actually
increase sexual pleasure.

PoliticsWoman Uses Vagina To Make Yogurt by oluvick(op): 12:45pm On Feb 12, 2015
Lagos – A student from an American university
has conducted an experiment using bacteria from
her vagina to make yogurt, Huffington Post
reports.

Cecilia Westbrook, who is a MD/PhD student at
University of Wisconsin, made the connection that
the lactobacillus which is found in healthy vagina
are the same bacteria that is found in yogurt. So
she extracted some from her own vagina with a
wooden spoon and proceeded to make her own
yogurt using milk and the vaginal bacteria.

Westbrook tasted the yogurt and said it had a
sour taste like Indian yogurt and it was good
paired with blueberries. She said she had two
bowls and has not had any bad after effects.

Although the U.S. Federal Drug Administration’s
Center for Food Safety has commented that
vaginal secretions are not meant to be digested
and can transmit many diseases.

PoliticsI Can Only Forgive Buhari On Onecondition… – Seun Kuti by oluvick(op): 7:19am On Feb 09, 2015
Afrobeat star and late Fela Anikulapo-Kuti’s son,
Seun, has explained why he would not vote this
year.

He also opened up on the only condition under
which he would forgive Buhari for locking his
father up.

In an interview with the Nation Newspapers, he
said “No, I don’t have my PVC because I decided
already long time ago, even before the candidates
were chosen, that the election is the politician’s
elections still. I’m not going to vote. And I’ve
been proven correct. I’m happy that so many
people in Nigeria today want to be involved in the
democratic process of this country. It is a big
development in our democratic development.

“And so many people want to also cast protest
votes this year protest against how the country
has been run by the present administration and I
understand. And I support it as well. But the truth
about it is that I believe that I am very politically
mature. And for me to cast my vote, whoever I
vote for has to represent my aspirations. I won’t
just cast a protest vote in as much as a protest
vote is needed in this forthcoming election.

“The candidate that is brought forward as well is
someone that I believe is not in the good books
of the Kuti family. And my family, we’re very
united in our views about civic responsibility and
human rights.

“And retired General Buhari has trampled on the
rights of my family when he jailed my father,
illegally for that matter. And Fela was innocent.
This is why it would be difficult for me to say I
want to vote for Buhari.

“Maybe if Buhari wins and becomes president,
then I can forgive him if he begins to do to
Nigerians what Fela would have liked for
Nigerians because maybe if Buhari becomes
president and he suddenly becomes pro-people,
developing Nigeria from the ground-up, things
that I know would have made my father happy,
and he is bring Nigeria up yeah. Definitely, I
would understand that even if Fela were alive and
Fela sees Nigeria going forward like this, he
would speak in favour of the man. But so far, I
can’t betray my father based on some promises
and some words. So, that is why I’m not voting
for him,” he said.

PoliticsAmaechi Threatens Mass Protest Against Poll Shift by oluvick(op): 12:50pm On Feb 07, 2015
THE director general of Buhari campaign organization and Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Amaechi, has threatened mass action if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) decides today to shift this month’s election.

Amaechi, who said monumental change is about to happen in Nigeria because the vast majority of Nigerians yearn for it, insisted that the presidential election must hold on February 14 because Nigerians are charged and poised to vote on that day for an inevitable change.

He stated this during the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship campaign rally at Isiokpo, the headquarters of his Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Addressing thousands of APC supporters who had converged for the rally, the governor charged his kinsmen and the people of the State to vote against the president and the Peoples Democratic Party because they are adverse to the rule of law and good governance.

“If PDP say there are strong, we are ready for election, let them come out. APC has said to PDP, let us wrestle; they are running away.

“If they try the postponement, we Nigerians will match out on the streets. Nigerians are charged and poised to vote on February 14,” he said.

Amaechi, who observed the INEC would be meeting today with critical stakeholders to deliberate on the forthcoming elections, insisted that whether the Federal Government likes it or not, the presidential election must hold on Saturday.

According to him, Nigerians are yearning for freedom from the yoke inflicted on them by the PDP administration, which is endemically corrupt.

He told the teeming audience that the APC presidential candidate remains gravely concerned about the incessant attacks on the party’s faithful in the state and has assured them that he would ensure the protection of life and property if he wins the February 14 presidential election.

Abuja - President Goodluck Jonathan has

the arrowhead of his re-election campaign
among Nigerian Christians, reports NewsDay.

In his stead, President Jonathan has settled
for President of Living Faith Church (Winners

Jonathan believes Oyedepo’s church with
with over 4 million members is of more
political asset than Oritsejafor, who many
believe has lost his political value due to the
numerous scandals around him.

Aside Oyedepo, President Jonathan has also
enlisted the support of popular pastors like
Paul Enenche, Paul Adefarasin, Uma Ukpa
The thinking in the presidency is that
President Jonathan can draw from the
goodwill of these pastors to ensure that
Christians vote for him in the February 14
presidential election.

PoliticsGovernor Says; Do Not Vote For Apc’schange by oluvick(op): 5:52pm On Feb 05, 2015
Olusegun Mimiko, governor of the
Ondo state, has urged citizens not to vote for
the changes that will stop the projects of
what the current president, Jonathan, has
started, reports Naij.

Reports suggest that Mimiko issued a
warning saying that people voting should not
vote based on their feeling however, based
on the continuity of the ruling party, as they
have started something that needs to be
carried through.

He urged citizens not to be deceived by
retrogressive change, as he argues that the
All Progressives Congress’ Buhari lacks the
ability to rule in a 21st century government.
He asked supporters to vote for Jonathan
who, he claims, guarantee development.
Although PDP members seems to be
supporting and agreeing with the governor,
as many have pledged to follow the ruling
administration, more PDP members have
been reported to have left the party.

PoliticsGeneral Buhari’s Lawyer Decamps to PDP, Says APC Is A Sinking Titanic by oluvick(op): 1:30pm On Jan 31, 2015
Mike Ahamba, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN)
and lawyer to the All progressives Congress
(APC) presidential candidate, General
Muhammadu Buhari has decamped from the
opposition party to the ruling Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP).

His official statement of defection was made
public on Wednesday, January 28, 2015.

Ahamba revealed that hen decided to dump the
APC because the party was bedeviled with much
dishonesty and absence of transparency, further
availing that the sitting governors who joined the
party (APC) were invited over for the sole aim of
siphoning their state funds for the electioneering
campaigns.

Read the full text of Ahamba’s statement below:

My brothers, sisters, friends and supporters, I
salute you.

It is a fact now self-evident that I am involved in
a political re-alignment and movement that has
necessarily resulted in my return to the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) of which I was a pioneer
member, having abandoned the sinking APC
political ship which has proved soon to be a
political ‘Titanic’. The merger of three national
political parties, a first in the history of Nigeria,
had been full of hope with promises of change.
But the center could not hold, things have fallen
apart, and no one in the party is at ease any
longer?

Brethren, I have bailed out of that ship because I
find myself unable to continue with membership
of a party which

(a) places preferred runners in a 100 metres race
at the sixtieth metre point in a supposed
democratic setting leaving others at the starting
blocks,

(b) has not published its manifesto after more
than eight (cool months of existence, thereby
keeping its membership and the polity in a
blindfold as to its true objectives,

(c) has not been able to set up elected
administrative structures at any level more than
eight months after registration but, instead, is
developing a sit-tight syndrome in the interim
officers,

(d) invites governors into its fold for the purpose
of using them to secure funds for election
purposes, which funds would naturally be the
product of looting of the respective state
treasuries,

(e) has manifested lack of concern for the well
being of the generality of the society, particularly
the less privileged, by directing its members in
the National Assembly to block the national
budget, a directive that could never be justified,
to mention a few reasons,

I have therefore opted to return to my original
political platform the PDP which till date has not
be parochialised either ethnically or religiously.
I firmly believe that this platform is, in the
Nigerian situation, the best avenue of political
service to my people and the nation at large.
I assure my numerous supporters and admirers
that change of platform will not transform into a
change of the personality you ever admired in me,
and crave your understanding and support. I
remain committed to justice to all, at all times, at
all cost.

As I declare my membership of the PDP on
Saturday 22nd February, 2014 my major request
of you is your earnest prayers for me to continue
to be who I have been. May I also request your
support in welcoming Mr. President, Dr. Goodluck
Ebele Jonathan to this epoc event.
In God I trust.

God bless you all, and our Great country.

PoliticsPDP Demands APC Answers On Terrortapes Involvement by oluvick(op): 7:53am On Jan 28, 2015
Abuja - The People's Democratic Party
(PDP) has alleged the opposition All
Progressives Congress (APC) has tapes of
terrorist attacks on innocent Nigerians in its
possession.

In a statement, PDP said the rival party
planned to air it to achieve its "selfish
purpose" using the tapes.

“Indeed, upon the release of the tapes, the
APC must explain to Nigerians how it got
hold of them. We ask, is the APC working in
collaboration with terrorist cells, who have
been unleashing violence against innocent
citizens of our dear nation," the ruling party
said.

"Are these the same terrorist groups that
earlier nominated the APC Presidential
candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari to
represent them in the dialogue between them
and the Federal Government, it added.

It said Nigerians should be worried over the
connections the APC might have with
insurgent groups especially coming on the
heels of recent support expressed to their
presidential candidate by the Movement for
the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND).

“We wish to clarify that this is not an attack
on the APC as a party but rather a serious
issue that boarders on national security.

"We therefore call on all Nigerians and lovers
of democracy to note this as the APC
embarks on a campaign to attempt to gain
directly from the security challenges facing
our nation,” PDP said.

Thousands have died in recent years as a
result of terror perpetrated by the Boko
Haram.
