PRAYER FOR NIGERIA by Reinhard Bonnke (Please pray with me and respond.) Heavenly Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus and pray for the well-being of the great nation of Nigeria. You are God and no human occasion is insignificant to you. You come in at every crisis point. I pray for tolerance and peace in the upcoming election and that your will be done. I also pray that the howling winds of death and destruction through Boko Haram will die down. You said in the Book of Exodus “when I see the blood, I will pass over you.” Each one of Your children is beyond the reach of the powers of hell, witches, and spells, curses, demons and war. The principalities and powers in heavenly places cannot touch Your people while we rest beneath the banner of the precious blood of Jesus our Savior, our Passover Lamb. Your protection surrounding us is impenetrable and invulnerable. Let Your wonderful face shine love, peace and prosperity upon Nigeria and all its wonderful people, especially the Family of God. In Jesus’ Name I pray. AMEN. Jesus sculpted our land With a nail-print in His hand. Even in the highest places, One can find redemption-traces. The cross of Christ is our faith’s foundation, A solid rock for our nation. Nigeria to Jesus come! Be marked by Him - not just by anyone! The All Progressives Congress (APC) has told Nigerian voters to ignore the unlawful order by the Inspector-General of Police urging them to go home after casting their ballots during the forthcoming elections. In a statement issued in Lagos on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the electorate should rather listen to the INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, who said the electoral law does not state anywhere that voters cannot or should not wait to watch and ensure that their votes are counted. It therefore urged the electorate to make sure they stayed behind to protect their votes after casting their ballots, as was the case in 2011. APC said contrary to the suspicious directive by the IGP, INEC encourages voters to stay behind and watch their votes counted, saying the law expects such voters to stay behind but to conduct themselves in an orderly manner. ”According to Jega, who appeared on Channels TV on Friday morning, the electoral law says anyone that has no business with the electoral process at the polling booths but desires to monitor events should stay at least some metres away from the polling agents and completely away from the ballot box after casting their votes. ”The INEC Chairman further clarified that all registered voters have businesses with the process and can therefore not be classified as people that don’t have businesses at polling units. ”Therefore, the IGP has no constitutional right or powers under the constitution or Police Act to rewrite the electoral law. The role of the police is to maintain law and order or such other assistance as may be sought from the police by INEC,” the party said. It also called on Nigerians to ignore the so-called public service announcement concerning the show of force by government security agencies, saying it is part of efforts to intimidate the electorate and pave the way for the PDP to rig the elections. APC also asked Nigerians to ignore the SMS being sent around by the agents of the PDP, asking them to send their names and the last five digits of their VIN (Voter Identification Number) to certain numbers. ”These and other messages are being sent out by the PDP to steal people’s PVCs, intimidate voters and manipulate the elections. Nigerians should never allow that to happen,” the party said. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/ignore-igp-protect-your-votes-apc-tells-voters/?utm_source=&utm_medium=facebook |

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday told Nigerians to expect change in the forthcoming general elections. Obasanjo, while fielding questions from reporters after speaking at the two-day Global Education and Skills Forum (GESF) 2015 in Dubai on ‘growing problem of attacks on schools,’ said the forthcoming general elections in Nigeria would bring about a change. He also knocked President Goodluck Jonathan for the poor handling of the Boko Haram insurgency. According to him, the good thing about democracy is that it brings change, such as Nigerians will witness in the forthcoming general elections. He said: “The good thing about democracy which we are trying to practice in Nigeria is that the people have a choice; people have a choice of making the incumbent to bring about a change; a change of policy, change of direction or in the alternative, the people bring about a change; change of regime, change of personality. And I believe that our election, when it comes less than two weeks from now, will bring about a change; either change of policy or change of direction or change of regime or change of personality. “I pray and I hope that that we will have a free, fair, uninterrupted, transparent, credible election. What is important in any election is to ensure that nobody is disenfranchised and those who want to vote are able to vote freely and uninterrupted. And the result is not interfered with in any way. “I will decide who I will vote for when the time comes for me to vote. When the time comes for me to endorse anybody, I will say who I endorse. But people are putting words into my mouth and for now I will split it out.” Obasanjo also denied tearing his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) membership card. “I didn’t tear my PDP membership card; somebody else tore it because I said to him, ‘here is the card, do whatever you like with it. If you like, keep it; if you like tear it, if you like burn it. Here it is because they say it is giving them concern and they don’t know what is happening.’ I do that to prove to them what is happening. At the moment, I do not possess the card of any political party,” he said. Obasanjo, in his address, gave an insight into why the Boko Haram insurgency worsened under the Jonathan administration. He accused the president of not paying much attention to the insurgency until it was too late. He said the activities of the sect escalated under the Jonathan administration due to politicisation of Boko Haram. “When Boko Haram started about four years ago, the present government saw it as a manifestation of the certain areas of the country that does not support the government, rather than seeing it as menace. So, it took about three years before government really came to the realisation that Boko Haram is more than an antigovernment group. “When the news of the abduction of the (Chibok) girls came to the president the morning after the night that it was done, the president’s reaction was that it cannot be true. And if it cannot be true, then you don’t have to do anything about it. And, for 18 days, the president didn’t even have any meaningful discussion with the governor of Borno State, which he ought to have done immediately. If immediate action had been taken, maybe those girls may have been rescued very early. “Now, the Boko Haram has festered like a bad sore and it is no longer in evident in the north- eastern part of Nigeria, it has gone beyond that to other countries like Cameroon, Chad and Niger Republic and now it has become a regional issue and we have to deal with it regionally and that is the combined military action that has been taken now. But we must not forget the underline cause, which is development,” he said. He identified corruption, incompetence and lack of development as the root cause of the insurgency and Boko Haram menace in the North-East. He described the various terror attacks on some parts of the world, especially attacks on schools, as a symptom of a disease that needs to be treated urgently. He said an attempt to tackle insurgency without providing solutions to the basic problems that gave birth to terror would amount to “treating a headache that emanates from high blood pressure.” He added that tackling the insurgency should begin with local communities before looking for national or international solutions. According to him, it has taken Nigeria a few years to really realise the severity of the threat posed by Boko Haram, which has now become a regional issue that must be urgently tackled. He said: “About threeand- a-half years ago, I wanted to know what the Boko Haram is all about; who are they and what are their objectives? The man who conducted the meeting by proxy, because I cannot see them, told me that the leader of Boko Haram, Mohammad Yusuf, who was killed in cold blood by the police, has 27 children and part of the problem is how to give them good western education. So, they are not averse to education. “One of the things that Mohammad Yusuf did when he was alive was that he asked his followers to bring out their certificates. Some have first degree; first class, second class; some have Master’s degrees. He asked them: ‘with your certificate, where is your job?’ They told him they had no job. He told them; ‘of what use is your certificate? Tear it.’ Some tore their certificates, some didn’t. That is actually where their name came from; Western education is good for nothing.” On how to solve the Boko Haram menace in Nigeria, the former president said: “In the short term, we have to offer two things; the stick and the carrot. The stick will be the military and the carrot would be where we have failed in the area of development, particularly education and employment, we have to address them. I believe that in the long run, the gap in the area of development and the real and perceived injustice must be removed. But in the short, we have to deal with it with stick and carrot approach.” Obasanjo blamed poor leadership for insecurity problems and terror attacks in some parts of the world, especially in Nigeria. “Leadership matters in virtually all human institutions and organisations. So, any lapses or laxity in any human community, particularly in our country (Nigeria) is leadership problem. I will say to a large extent, it is leadership problem. “I have always maintained that political leaders must, first of all, give good governance in all its ramifications and that is very important. You cannot have corruption and expect people to feel happy. You cannot have corruption and good governance as strange fellows; they don’t live together. “You have to be honest with the people. Tell them the truth. You cannot be lying to the people and expect that will give people satisfaction. For me, I believe it is good governance in all its ramifications. Good governance which comes from good leadership,” he added. http://newtelegraphonline.com/obasanjo-nigerians-will-vote-for-change/ |
Abuja - Hundreds of Arewa leaders on Sunday said that they rejected hundreds of thousands of dollars from President Goodluck Jonathan when he visited the state two weeks ago, PUNCH reports. Speaking during the reception of Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso in Lagos, the leaders distanced themselves from any endorsement of Jonathan, saying those that did offer Jonathan support are frauds. The group claims that a select few individuals visited Jonathan at the State House and posed as emirs in an effort to deceive the President and gain monetary rewards. In addition, Arewa Community Chairman Alhaji Sani Kabiru has promised to get All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential candidate Muhammadu Buhari one million votes along with support for APC state governorship candidate Akinwunmi Ambode. Former Governor of Ekiti, Kayode Fayemi says he has evidence that national leader of All Progressives Congress, (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, was wooed to be part of the Interim National Government by President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP). Last week, Tinubu had alleged that the Presidency had invited him to be part of an interim government. Fayemi, while speaking at Aramoko Ekiti, on Sunday, March 15, said he has strong proof that Jonathan plans to impose an Interim government on Nigeria. Fayemi said: “President Jonathan is becoming desperate by the day and he would stop at nothing to return to government. You know what they did in Ekiti. So, there was nothing Tinubu said that was not verifiable.” “I have evidence that he was invited to be part of Interim Government as a way of dividing us as a prominent member of our party. There is absolutely nothing they cannot do to distract us because they could see that the Presidency is gradually slipping off their hands. It was good that these alarms were being raised and put on the front burner that there was a sinister intention to subvert the will of the people.” “What Nigerians are looking for now is for the elections to be held on March 28 as scheduled by Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and for the victor who is overwhelmingly elected by the popular votes to be announced.” “We as party leaders and members of the opposition are ready to congratulate the winner, but if they go ahead and subvert the will of the people, they will surely go to jail.” Now that there’s proof, why not release it to the world? http://ynaija.com/fayemi-claims-evidence-jonathans-plan-interim-government/ |

Abuja - President Goodluck Jonathan has reached out to some traditional rulers in the north to help persuade the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party to reconsider his stance of leaving the party, reports Osun Defenders. The President has mandated top presidential aides of Northern extraction led by the National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki have been mandated to reach out to some of the emirs sympathetic to the President to beg Mu'az to stay in the party. One of the traditional rulers strongly considered to lead the begging is the Emir of Bauchi, Muhammadu Adamu, who Muazu holds in high esteem. Mu'azu was reported to have tendered his resignation letter following some hate speeches credited to the First Lady, Patience Jonathan during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign rallies. Patience Jonathan threw caution into the winds when she called people from the North irresponsible fathers and mothers who give birth to many children they cannot cater for. http://www.news24.com.ng/Elections/News/Jonathan-reaches-out-to-emirs-to-beg-Muazu-20150313 |
Abuja - The Presidential Campaign Organisation of All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday applauded the Armed Forces recent victories in the fight against Boko Haram terrorists. Addressing newsmen in Abuja, the Director of Media and Publicity of the organisation, Malam Garba Shehu, said the achievement was commendable. Shehu stated that nobody could pretend to be ignorant of the huge progress that the military had made in the counter-insurgency war in the north eastern part of the country. "The Armed Forces, in collaboration with a multinational force made up of armies of neighbouring African countries, have recorded a number of significant victories in the fight against Boko Haram. "About 36 territories formerly in control of the insurgents have been taken back over the past few weeks. This is commendable. We congratulate our armed forces," he said. Shehu, however, wondered "why it took the Federal Government this long to apply the current level of force against the insurgents." He said the government left the issue to fester for too long, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of lives and displacement of thousands of persons in the north east. Shehu also queried the 89 per cent reduction in the 2015 budget of the Federal Ministry of Works. It will be recalled that the Minister of Works, Mr Mike Onolememen, disclosed the reduction when he appeared before the Senate Committee on Works to defend the proposal on Monday. Onolememen had said that the Ministry of Finance slashed the N100 billion proposed by his ministry for 2015 to N11billion. Shehu said "who were the intended recipients of the unnecessary, extra 89 per cent? Into whose pockets were the superfluous millions intended?" www.news24.com.ng/Elections/News/APC-applauds-military-onslaught-against-Boko-Haram-20150313 |

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has alleged a plot by the Presidency to produce a damaging documentary on the state governor, Chibuike Amaechi. |
Daar Communications Plc has rejected in their entirety the demands of Tunji Abayomi and co on behalf of Bola Tinubu over a documentary titled “Unmasking The Real Tinubu” transmitted on African Independent Television, AIT, according to a publication on its website. The demands, which Mike Ozekhome’s chambers describe as laughable, include the stoppage of further transmission of the alleged defamatory documentary, failure which daar communications will be made to pay twenty billion Naira representing damages. In its reaction, Mike Ozekhome’s chambers on behalf on behalf of DAAR communications declares that AIT, in transmitting the documentary was only carrying out its constitutional responsibility to uphold the fundamental objectives of the constitution. It states further that the documentary merely stated that Bola Tinubu generally breached various portions of the Nigerian constitution. DAAR communications plc is therefore demanding a complete withdrawal of the letter under reference, which must be given wide publicity as that accorded the letter from the chambers of Tunji Abayomi. The media company demands an apology to be published in at least four leading national newspapers and four television stations, which must include NTA, Channels and AIT. The sum of one hundred billion Naira representing aggravated, punitive and exemplary damages for the irreparable injury inflicted on AIT is also being demanded. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/ait-replies-tinubu-demands-n100bn-damages/ |

Lai Mohammed, APC’s National Publicity Secretary in statement on Monday, said Fani Kayode's lifestyle raises concerns about his sanity. One of the men convicted of the gang-rape and murder of an Indian student that shocked the world has said he blames the victim for “roaming around at night”. The comments are made in a documentary to be screened on International Women’s Day. Mukesh Singh, who was sentenced to death for his crimes, said the victim should not have been out at night, and should not have resisted the attack on a moving bus in 2012. “You can’t clap with one hand -– it takes two hands. A decent girl won’t roam around at 9 o’clock at night,” he said in an interview for “India’s Daughter”, a BBC documentary to be broadcast on Sunday. “A girl is far more responsible for rape than a boy. About 20 per cent of girls are good.” The 23-year-old physiotherapy student died from her injuries 13 days after she was savagely attacked on her way home from the cinema with a male friend on December 16, 2012. Before her death she was able to speak to police about the crime, which caused outrage across the world and triggered mass protests in India. The attack highlighted the frightening level of violence against women in the world’s second most populous country and led to a major reform of the rape laws, speeding up trials and increasing penalties. But Singh, 28, said his execution would “make life more dangerous for future rape victims”. “Now when they rape, they won’t leave the girl like we did. They will kill her,” he told Leslee Udwin, the award-winning British filmmaker behind the documentary. He also criticised the victim for fighting back against her attackers. “She should just be silent and allow the rape,” he said. “Then they’d have dropped her off after doing her.” “India’s Daughter” will be televised in seven countries including India and Britain on Sunday, International Women’s Day. Udwin will speak to media at a screening of her film later Tuesday alongside the victim’s parents, who have campaigned vocally for improvements in women’s safety since their daughter’s death. She said she was inspired by seeing ordinary Indians take to the streets to protest “in unprecedented numbers” following the attack. “In my lifetime, I can’t recall any other country standing up with such commitment and determination for women’s rights,” Udwin said. The case sparked much soul-searching about India’s treatment of women, but women’s rights campaigners say little has changed in the deeply patriarchal country. Singh, one of five people convicted over the attack, admitted driving the bus during the incident but denied taking part in the rape. He is appealing the verdict against him. One of the alleged attackers died in jail before he could be tried, while another was too young to be tried as an adult and is serving a three-year sentence in a reform facility. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/a-girl-is-far-more-responsible-for-rape-than-a-boy-rapist/#sthash.pNIxK94C.dpuf |

There are many ways to say you love someone without actually voicing it. So, so worry less if your love hardly say *I love you* but rather watch out for the his/her unspoken words. Below are just a few: Eye contact, stares, and glances: People who love each other can’t help it and their eyes often show how much they adore one another. Just from the way he keeps staring at you can get you thinking about how much he adores you. They listen to you: People who love one another are attentive to the other’s problems, issues or sad stories. They can listen for however long and help come up with a solution, provide comfort, or reassurance. Meaningful Surprises: Does he ever just show up with a gift? Is he good at keeping a smile on your face? He could surprise you with flowers on a random day, or take you out on a date to a really romantic place. Chances are if a guy takes the time to buy you random gifts, he really cares about you. You can tell you have a place in his heart. Spontaneous Touching: Guys are very perceptible. If he reaches for your hand during dinner or rests his hand on your back as you’re walking, he can’t help but want to be closer to you. He’ll find any reason to touch you, no matter how small. Think of those little hand squeezes as bursts of love. He Cancels Plans to Be with You: If he’s really crazy about you don’t be surprised if he blows off his boys just to spend another night with you. Sometimes getting to see you is the best part of his week. Sure he would love to be at the bar with his guys and watch the game, but he also can’t help but think that spending time with his special lady might be just a little bit better. http://www.post-nigeria.com/5-ways-he-says-i-love-you-without-speaking/ |
It was Mahatma Gandhi who said he admired Christ not Christians. I guess he said this to remind people that most Christians are definitely not Christ-like. One cannot claim to be a Christian when his attitude is opposite of the principle that we are called to live by. There is no middle ground in this race. It is either you are living like Christ or you are a pretender. People like pretending to be what they are not. It is for this reason that one writer defined hypocrisy as a tribute that vice pays to virtue. There is absolutely nothing Christ-like in President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration. His policies are harsh towards the common man. He has done absolutely nothing for the poor of the land. Rather, he has done a lot to favour the rich and eminent personalities. Any true Christian knows that God loves the poor and is earnestly seeking to do them good. He is seriously looking for those to use to render service to the poor. It can only take a wicked man to increase the prices of petroleum products on a New Year day thereby causing immense hardship to numerous poverty stricken citizens. Any government that is anti poor is anti God. Jonathan has refused to go after those who are squandering our patrimony. Corruption is rampant and he is pretending that all is well. You cannot be a follower of Christ and allow evil to run rampant around you. How long can we continue this dance of death? How long are we going to allow these men from the forest of thousand demons to continue to desecrate our land? It is about time we chased them away. We need discipline and decorum in governance. And that is what Muhammadu Buhari is about. Buhari is everything that Jonathan is not. He is disciplined, painstaking and has a visceral dislike for corruption. He has promised to confront corruption and he is just about the only politician that has the credential to do that. He has done it before and he will do it again. The man cares passionately for the poor of the land and wants to do his bit to help them. Buhari is not a drunk and he is not in the business of running around with other people’s wives. As a Head of State, 11 out of 19 Ministers appointed by him were Christians. Buhari showed leadership when a dangerous Islamic sect known as Maitatsine threatened our peace. He refused to register Nigeria as a member of the Organization of Islamic Countries and banned government sponsorship of pilgrimages to Mecca. It is a well- known fact that his personal aides and domestic workers are mostly Christians and under him no one was victimized on the basis of religion. It is on record that Jonathan is the first President to lead Nigerian delegation to the Organization of Islamic Countries in February 2013. He has spent an average of $14 billion on 26, 000 Haji pilgrims annually from 2010. From all ramifications, Buhari has more Christian qualities than Jonathan. Buhari’s government will focus on building a society that would begin to move the powers of a smothering federal government back to states and local government. Government will be closer to the people and better aware of their real needs and wants. APC as party is open and beckoning to a majority of Nigerians not because we are handing out goodies to people but because we have a better proposal for them and their families. As a transformational leader, Buhari is sure of what he wants happen and is extraordinarily strong-willed about it. He has one thing in mind instead of a variety of passing impulses. He wants a society full of opportunities. In short, the key to a successful transformational leader is to keep your eyes focused on your goals. And the people’s general has a knack for ignoring unproductive criticism and feels neither threatened nor moved by it. He is not one of such politicians that display so much pettiness and hostility that is simply not productive. Surely, Nigeria will be better under him. ————————- - Ikechukwu Orji is a Media Consultant and Journalist. http://ynaija.com/ikechukwu-orji-buhari-better-christian-jonathan/ |
