Travel / Re: Cost Of Road Trip To Ghana by Oluwapresley(m): 8:31pm On Oct 21, 2019
emceedcent:
One of the journeys most frequently asked about is the trip from Nigeria to Ghana. Here's all you need to know.
Despite our Jollof wars, Nigerians and Ghanaians are very fond of each other. In the past few years, there has been an influx of tourist Nigerians to Ghana than ever before. Ghana has great street food, great tourist markets and amazing people.

Thinking of taking a trip to Ghana? We've compiled information for what you should expect and things you would need for the trip.

Documents you need

To travel from Nigeria to Ghana by any means, you need a valid international/ECOWAS passport and a yellow card. It is very advisable to get your yellow card before travelling as it is very important and can be a means by which officials extort you. You can get the yellow card for about N1000 at the Port Health office close to the international airport. It is also advisable to have your another means of ID like a drivers license or a student/work ID, and your accommodation details.

Choosing your means of transport
A flight from Nigeria (Lagos) to Accra averages at 1 hour 10 minutes. However, if you are going by road, brace yourself for a full 17-24 hours on the move (consider your bladder). The journey from Nigeria to Ghana by road is quite a long one but it's the scenic route, so brace yourself for the adventure. There are different ways to cross, if you choose to go by road, you can either choose to go directly with a transport company or hire out a taxi that will take you. For an intense budget trip, you could consider hitchhiking.

Money moves
Hopefully, by this time, you have already created your budget for the trip. After knowing the amounts you have to spend, best bet is to have your naira in raw cash and prepare to change it for Ghanaian cedis at the Aflao border, which is the border between Togo and Ghana. Travelling with US dollars is a good idea too because even if you don't change it at the border, you can find any Bureau de Change in town and change it for cedis because dollars is widely accepted. Some hotels also accept USD but you can hardly find one that accepts Naira. It is also important to keep up with the exchange rates so you won't get cheated. Naira fluctuates crazily too. It might be scary hanging on to such huge amounts of cash but this is your best bet unless you have a dollar Mastercard , because your naira cards will not work in Ghana.

Crossing borders
If you're going by road, there are three borders you have to cross. The Lagos-Cotonou border, the Cotonou-Togo border and the Togo-Ghana border. Crossing the borders mean a lot of stress, negotiation and "settlement", especially if you are a first time traveller or you have a "virgin" passport. Most times, if you are using a transport company, they will take care of the crossing logistics for you. However, if you plan on crossing the border on your own, brace yourself for a lot of paying-offs you would have to do at all the stops.

Have a wonderful trip!

Nice in-depth info!!!

All those Bureau de change ish. If you have an Ecobank Account and the debit card, you can withdraw your money in any African Country's currency that Ecobank is present. And Ghana is included.

Family / Re: How Do I Save For The Future So As Not To Learn The Hard Way? by Oluwapresley(m): 12:25pm On Oct 21, 2019
contumely2:
I am a man in late 20's.
I grew up in lack. I suffered so much growing up. In fact, at a point the court had to eject us and threw our properties on the streets for inability to pay rent.

School fees were paid in instalments. Not like the fees were much even. But the funds were never there.

God has blessed me reasonably in the past few years. I made a lot of sacrifices too, denying myself pleasure, delaying gratification etc.

Lately, I noticed that I have been extravagant. Some of the extravagance is masked as charity to people.

I hardly say no requests and I empathise and pity people a lot.

If I lend money to 10 persons, only 3 will pay back.

I also buy some things on impulse; without planning. I regret some of these purchases later.

HOW DO I STAY motivated so as to save more to invest because the future is uncertain. And money is not always there?

I also understand that those we help may abandon us in time of need.

I don't want to learn the hard way.

Kindly share your experiences with grace to grass; or with people you helped in times of plenty.

Or your regrets with finances especially early in life.

Thanks!

I will suggest to you what was also suggested to me and has worked till date. The only time it didn't work was when I didn't follow it.

1. Have a target savings plan (Ecobank helps me with this with the Ecobank Target Savings Account). It is like the normal savings account, with higher interest rate and a little restrictions on withdrawals to encourage savings.

2. When you receive money (either salary or however form of income), take out what you intend to save and credit that account immediately. Better still, activate a direct debit/standing order on your account such that at a given time at regular intervals, so so amount of money is taken to your Target Savings Account.

3. Whatever is left, plan your month with. That way you know that however way you want to spend, your savings is already intact somewhere yielding profit.

I have noticed that you CANNOT SPEND WHAT YOU DON'T READILY HAVE ACCESS TO. And even if you can, it will be your last resort.

Ecobank Nigeria is actually giving cash when you drop plastic bottles at some of their branches in Lagos. I'm going to try to find the details of this but below are some pictures.

Ymcmbbb:

On the power point( bio- data form), you will see ‘enable editing’ either as a prompt message when you open the document or on top most part of the document. You click on edit and it will allow you edit.
Then for the PDF, you click on the ‘edit’ option beside ‘File’. When you click on edit, some options will display on the right part of your screen, click on ‘add text’ and then click on the part where you want to fill. It will enable you edit your document.

Thanks, bro. For the PowerPoint document, I think I should be able to edit it with a PowerPoint app on a system. I tried typing a few things and it worked so I think all should be well on that.

But the PDF document, after clicking edit, I couldn't find the option to add text. I'm using a system though and I don't know if it's prolly because my acrobat isn't updated or something. But I looked and looked, I couldn't find it. So what I did was to convert the PDF file to Word Document. I'm going to fill the info needed and then convert it back to PDF file.

Should in case any other person has this challenge of filling out the documents, after trying out ymcmbbb tricks, if it doesn't work, you could try converting to word document (Note: Pdf to word. I don't know if it is advisable to convert PowerPoint to word) and fill out the document and then convert it back. I would have provided a link where one can do it online but I can't afford to be banned at this point in my life. Lol. But just search convert pdf to word document online.

I hope this helps. Thanks again at ymcmbbb and Hilord

Guys, good morning. I also got a mail for the next stage. I want congratulate those who got invite for the next stage and those who didn't get. I want to believe all of these is for our good. This may seem like what a motivational speaker would say but like someone said earlier, we all keep pushing and I'm congratulating you in advance as I strongly believe that the best will certainly get to us and very soon! Feel dejected now (after all, we are only humans) but only for a while. Brace up and move on! Your efforts will be crowned soon. Las las, we will all smile.

Please are we to fill the form in E format or we can fill it with our pens? I’m currently trying to fill it with my laptop but it’s not permitting me to type on it.
Someone kindly reply. Thanks

Bro, please, how did you eventually do it? I'm also stuck. But I noticed that the second document is PowerPoint format so I think maybe we can type on that and also insert picture.
