I believe afenifere has died a very long time ago,wat we have now is a group if people who are not relevant in d politics of d southwest n are just trying to seek relevance, were dey not d ones dat sold out d southwest to pdp after bola ige died.D recent election in ondo is a very good example,as good elders of d southwest, were dey not suppose to be d one to bring mimiko n tinubu together to settle dere differences but no dey took side n supported one group n dey claim to be representing d good will of the people of d southwest, pls let all dis people just keep quiet and let us decide those we want to lead us n stop instigating hatred |
take dat: What is the brouhaha all about? If APC does not want to be part of a dialogue, those interested should go ahead with it. If those who elected APC as their representative are uncomfortable with APC's stand, they can vote them out in the next elections. It became politically expedient for members of the PDP who are staunch antagonists of a National Conference to make a sudden volte-face, if members of APC who have long clamored for a conference do not really trust the motive of 'Sudden Converts and Born Again', the David Mark and co, why should it generate so much negative publicity, and moreover, it is not a conference for political parties? Members of APC and the PDP including the President are self-serving, and they would not do anything that conflict with their interests, and their interest differ from ours. Odumakin himself is a politician.it shall be well with u,where was he wen d southwest was been mismanaged by obasanjo's boys,hw many times did dey stand up against akala in Ibadan or against tyrant oyinlola in osun,or were dey blind wen obasanjo ruled n no meaningful impact in d southwest. l beg make dem just shut up |
should apga wins, it is probably going to be a continuation of obi's reign or let me say third term n anambra will have to be at d footstep of pdp n I can bet it wit u dat dere is not going to be any meaningful development, cause dere will b too much godfatherism, ask kwara people n we no want make anybody cum nairaland cum open thread of underdevelopment for anambra later oooooooooo |

National chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur has said that the party is gearing up to retake Lagos state, and reclaim the south west region of the country from the All Progressive Congress (APC). He also stated that the PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan will give their support for the upcoming PDP zonal congresses in the region to prepare them ahead of coming elections, especially the governorship election for Ekiti and Osun states next year. Tukur spoke in Lagos at a reception dinner organized for him by the Foundation for World Peace (FWP) and the South West PDP to celebrate the recent award conferred on him by the Congressional Black Caucus of the United States as ‘African Man of the Year 2013’. The PDP helmsman while calling on PDP members to get prepared to take over Lagos state and the south west, said, “The picture in my mind is for them to get prepared to take over government so that they will stop swimming in the lake when there is a sea to swim”. He also said, “Our party is united in the south west. I am particularly interested in the affairs of Lagos”. According to him, the party will continue to put people from the south west region of the country in positions of power to reflect their contributions to the party and the country. On the crisis bedeviling the party, Alhaji Tukur stated that it is a blessing in disguise, adding, that it will soon be a thing of the past, and that it has been blown out of proportion by the media. “PDP is the most populous party that believes in dialogue. We dialogue and discuss, and in the process there can be misunderstanding, but they have always been resolved amicably”, he said. While inviting aggrieved members of the party who had left to return, Tukur said that the “PDP is a big umbrella that can accommodate everybody”. He however noted that is a party that believed in discipline, fairness, justice and equity, even as he stated that “almost all our members who left the party usually come back because it is the only party this popular that believes in dialogue”. According to him, PDP is the only party that offers freedom of information, and believes in election, rather than selection, adding, “our job in PDP is peace and security, reconciliation without confrontation, reformation without revenge, and rebuilding our party based on equity and justice. While speaking on the recent judgment of the Court of Appeal that set aside the decision of a Federal High Court that removed Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola as the national chairman of the party, Tukur stated that he was yet to be served with the ruling. According to him, the romance of some PDP governors with the opposition party is not an issue to the PDP, and described the leaders of the party as leaders not only in the country, but also in the West African region and continent “If we have a strong platform and a strong institution of political party, we would be able to give the leadership, not only in Nigeria, not only in West Africa, but in the whole continent because with that strong institution, we shall be able to have stability, peace, security and therefore have development and prosperity”, he said. Also speaking at the event, Mr. Deli Doherty, PDP chairman, southwest stated that the award conferred on Tukur was in recognition of his performance as an outstanding African. He also stated that he welcomed the collaboration of the party with the FWP to take back Lagos state in the next election, adding that the collaboration is to be crystallized in the south west region |

Dr. Olusegun Ajiboye, the chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, in the University of Ibadan, has confirmed that stories which made the rounds on Saturday, that the National Executive Council, NEC, would hold an emergency meeting in Kano, were false. Ajiboye was speaking in an interview on Diamond FM, University of Ibadan and stated that no meeting was scheduled for today, as they were still in the middle of a seven-day morning, which was declared in honour of the late Professor Festus Iyayi, a former national chairman of the Union. It would be recalled that Iyayi lost his life in a fatal crash, on his way to Bayero University, Kano, where members of ASUU were to meet and reach a final decision, on whether to continue with the strike or accept the federal government’s offer. dailypost.com.ng/2013/11/16/ASUU-strike-union-confirms-nec-meeting-did-not-hold-today/ |

Former President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Prof. Festus Iyayi, died a sad man over the way the Goodluck Jonathan administration is treating the education sector. Iyayi, 66, who died Tuesday in a road accident on his way to Kano for the now- postponed National Executive Council meeting of ASUU, was so embittered that he described the administration as one that is “shameless and has no honour” during his last public outing as an activist. Characteristic of him, Iyayi was in the forefront during a protest staged in Benin by the University of Benin (UNIBEN) chapter of ASUU on October 24 to sensitise the public on why the union has remained on strike since July 1 over government’s failure to honour the 2009 agreement signed with ASUU. Reporting on that protest, the Lagos- based PM NEWS said the award-winning novelist took a swipe at the chairman of the federal government negotiating team and Governor of Benue State, Mr. Gabriel Suswan whom he claimed has turned himself into contractor, saying, “Even Suswan had said he would personally build and supervise the hostels at an outrageous rate from the proceeds of the proposed N100 billion.” Iyayi, according to the paper, wondered why President Jonathan would chair the commissioning and fund raising for a private tertiary institution when public universities have been on strike for four months, saying: “This government is shameless and has no honour.” Iyayi’s death in an accident involving the convoy of Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State, has forced the indefinite postponement of the ASUU NEC Meeting to deliberate on President Jonathan’s fresh offer to end the five-month strike. EXCERPTED FROM VANGUARD NIGERIA The campaign for continuity on which Willie Obiano is hinging his campaign is one built on false assumptions, Dr. Chris Ngige, the APC candidate said yesterday. Ngige in a statement yesterday said another term in office by APGA would mean subjecting the people of Anambra State to another four years of “the locust characterised by socio-economic retrogression, insecurity and degradation of infrastructure.” Ngige in the statement issued on his behalf by Mr. Tony Icheku, of the Media and Publicity Committee of the campaign urged the electorate to reject Obiano upon what he claimed as the economic failures of Mr. Peter Obi, the incumbent governor who is in the frontline of the Obiano campaign. “Fiscal rascality, and ineptness defines Mr. Peter Obi’s eight years in office. Besides flouting constitutional provisions, he failed to excel in any single department of governance,” Ngige deposed. “Despite a huge monthly budget of over N500 million as security vote, Mr. Obi had been unable to secure the lives and property of Anambra people, he probably does not know that the 1999 Constitution, section 2.14, describes security of lives and property as the cardinal and fundamental objective of government. One therefore is at loss how Mr. Obi expends N500 million monthly and yet Anambra is not garrisoned against kidnappers and armed robbers. Our former thriving commercial cities of Onitsha and Nnewi are now ghost towns because of insecurity, as both indigenes and investors alike had been scared away by kidnappers.” “For eight years, Mr. Obi refused to conduct elections to the Local Government Areas, LGAs and cornered the allocations due to the 21 LGAs. Anambra people demand explanations how their money was spent as there is nothing on ground to show any investment in socio-economic infrastructure.” |
que sera sera,it is engige,it is definitely him n if na obaino, den there is nothing stopping it.........no matter d wat people say,wat will be will surely b |

tomakint: No one is asking you for a homily, all what she raised is the disparity between the monetary figures of N2.65 billion to over N8 billion to acquire the said laptops and opon imo respectively, and it seems you are 'missing' this pointread dis through; With the Opon Imo (Tablet of Knowledge) initiative to be distributed to students preparing for internal and external examinations, the Osun State Government is saving N8.2 billion that could have been spent on purchase of books on an annual basis. The government said with 56 textbooks on 17 subjects, which have been converted into the soft copies in the Opon Imo device, students have the added advantage of carrying a single digital device that makes learning easier. Apparently referring to a publication in which the state government was criticised for paying N200 million for the conversion of textbooks into the Opon Imo device, Governor Rauf Aregbesola, while speaking at a programme for the distribution of some educational materials worth N30 million on Wednesday, said his administration deserved commendations from all for the idea of Opon Imo in which about 150,000 digital devices are to be distributed to students across the state. Aregbesola said the huge funds, which his administration continuously commits to the education sector, is designed to instill in every public school pupil a minimum level of value. Aregbesola said: “Were we to purchase 56 textbooks for 17 subjects being offered at SSCE for 150,000 students, over N8.4 billion will be spent annually as against N200 million expended on Opon Imo for the conversion of books.” The governor said instead of being commended for God’s endowed ingenuity and wisdom, which gave birth to the Opon Imo initiative, some people prefer demonstrating their ignorance by grandstanding and claiming what they are not. He described the score card of the last administration in the education sector even after 90 months in office as a far cry from his administration’s achievements in only 27 months. Aregbesola then cautioned teachers against sharp practices in the distribution and utilisation of instructional materials and appealed to parents and guardians to assist the government in ensuring prudent usage of government funds paid to schools. The governor had called some students present at the event who confirmed that the average cost of a textbook for SSSE students is between N1,000 and N1,500. With this, the governor said: “We have been able, through the support of the citizens of Osun, to develop an innovative device, and we put in that Opon Imo 56 text books for 17 subjects being taught here. “That was what we purchased for N200 million. “Aregbesola and his team of endowed people have saved Osun people N8.2 billionn with the introduction of Opon Imo alone. “Must I be commended or condemned?” |
Controversy: One of the reason i love Peter Obi. More action less noisemy dear d greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance,it is d illusion of knowledge, please b4 u compare things try to be informed about it,opon imo is probably d greatest learning device innovation to have come out of Africa n some other parts of the world |
