They really have no right man. That is the same way my legitimate (I mean totally legitimate, without any shady deals whatsoever or IP shadiness) got deleted from Fiverr with the flimsy excuse of a double account (which I cannot and will not have, because I am legit and don't have time for all that nonsense).

I sent the Idiots mails upon mails and they kept their stand without remorse. I just grew tired of the stupidity and left the money and their poor style with them and left fiverr altogether.

I want to believe upwork drink a different medicine and are not as racist as the rest are. So I am patiently waiting for them to accept my account. Here goes my 3rd try without success.

Sorry about your Fiverr account. But I think Upwork is worse. You should try using the opera trick that one guy talked about. Because I doubt they will accept you.

Hi Guys. So on the issue of profile rejection, I don't know what's up with Upwork.

I met a dude who saw me sending a proposal on Upwork, last week. The thing is, he was sitting right behind me in a lecture theatre, so he could get a clear view of what I was doing. At that very point, he tried opening a writer's account on Upwork, verified his mail, wrote his profile overview and submitted it for approval ALL ON HIS PHONE.

He got stuck at a point because some aspects of the site was hidden. (You know, Upwork sometimes isn't fully functional when using android).
At that point, he had to ask me for help and I was like 'What!, you really did all this within like what? an hour of seeing the site on someone
else's laptop?).

Okay, fast forward. I saw him two days later in the same lecture theatre and he told me his profile has been approved

I just got thinking of all the stress I went through to get my profile approved last year and well.....let me just let bygones be bygones.

Now, I just saw him some minutes ago, and I had a quick chat to know what exactly he did, so maybe you guys can try it out.

Here's what he said:

- He started the account opening process with the Opera Mini Browser (On his phone).
- He completed his profile description at that point.
- Filled in all the other necessary requirements.
- Submitted, and them hours later GBAM.

You'd see there really is no big expose to it. Pretty much the same basic account opening process.

So what exactly happened?

I really can't say. But, you could give it a try with a fresh account.

I should also mention he opened the account on a Saturday, between 7 and 9 PM. I don't know how relevant the day and time is to getting approved. And, now that I remember, I also got my profile approved on a Saturday.

Now, don't go getting me wrong, I am not saying profiles get approved over the weekend. I am just trying to cover all bases.

And, lastly, he didn't even have a 100% complete profile.

P.S I actually saw his approved account, so there was no bullshitting involved or anything.

Wow. I think is because opera is a proxy server. This means that it doesn't use a person's real location. So, at that point, his opera wasn't using a Nigerian location. That's possibly why he got approved. It's like Upwork tells their bot to automatically disqualify Nigerians... I've gotten my profile approved through other means, anyone who hasn't should try this method and let's see.

Really? I doubt. Upwork has a bias against Nigerian accounts. I know how many times I tried on my own, and got rejected. Even after taking tests and whatnot.

And you know what? I was expecting to be deported after the whole encounter, but I wasn't. Yea, surprised. Even after the mass deportation yesterday, I checked again, and the dormant account was still sitting right there in Washington DC. Lol

I had created a new US account then for the purpose. They asked me for Facebook profile, LinkedIn ID etc. Many months later, I got a mail from them that my request was not processed. Their reason was that they had stopped processing applications for pro in my niche at the time I sent in my application. They said they would keep in touch with me whenever they start accepting new applications.

Ouch. I think it's a bit risky trying to use a foreign account for Fiverr Pro. Regardless, which niche is it?

I think it's easier for you "insiders" to easily scoff at an outsider's lament about discrimination. After all, you're already enjoying the proceeds. The fact that there is discrimination everywhere doesn't negate the fact that it is morally unjustifiable.

You can use your Mastercard to pay, even PayPal. But, your first transaction might be delayed for about 3 days because you will have to provide some identification documents. If you are stuck at any point, you can contact support. You will also receive the money in your local bank account.

Methinks you're being paranoid. I don't think anyone has singled out Nigerians to be discriminated against but rather, the site is wisely trying to manage the population of freelancers it has to make the site a reasonable workplace for both lancers and clients. I for one registered with my full Nigerian details about a year ago and got approved with zero fuss. But times have changed and there has to be a workable balance. I have a friend who's a Chartered Accountant living in Canada that tried to register and got rejected. You just have to look at Freelancer.com to understand what I mean. Within two minutes of making a job post on Freelancer, you'd have at the very least, 50 (I'm not exaggerating) applications from mostly Indians and Pakistani's. It's not just the overwhelming number of applications but the fact that 97% of the applications will come from India and Pakistan and it's stifling talent from lesser populated regions. I bet if Upwork were to be left open, we'd stand no chance against the Indians and Pakistanis who are undoubtedly skilled in various fields. Quora is currently facing similar problems with Indians and Indian topics overwhelmingly dominating discussions as a result of what can best be described as patriotic Upvotes. I believe the need to strike a balance between the number of job seekers and ensuring a healthy spread of applicants is what's behind Upwork's now more frequent rejections. If you can't find your way in, you just need to find a way to deal with it. This chant of racism is becoming stale.

My allegations of discrimination might be unfounded, I'll try registering with a foreign profile using the same account details to see if they are truly discriminating against Nigerians. I'll get back to you with my findings. Discrimination means that human beings are not being treated equally.

Regardless of a person's country of origin or his skin color, if he is rejected because of his country of origin, discounting the skill he has to offer, then it's discrimination.

This is a personal opinion, but I think Nigerians are facing so many challenges in the online space, most of which we have decided to amplify by ourselves and our actions.

I also think we (freelancers) are being chased up and down by administrators of these sites because we have chosen to do things the easy way, which is as a result of our smart nature as Nigerians.

I think it is possible to open an upwork account with Nigerian details and get accepted (even if it might be hellish to do so), but as Nigerians, we hardly want to attempt it over and over again till we get it right, when we can get an easier version with some of the steps listed on this thread.

I am a graphics designer (a very good one at that), but I have been rejected by upwork about two times over, because maybe I was not through with my approach, but going through the few pages of this thread, I lkke to assume that it is very possible to be accepted into upwork with entire Nigerian details.

If there is anyone that has had success at this, signify, and give us your working methods so Nigerians would have a clean alternative to getting approved on that platform, and clear some of this bad air hovering around the Nigerian tag name on the internet.

No matter how they try to position it, setting the bar incredibly high for Nigerians is bare-faced discrimination. Not just discrimination based on nationality but also racial discrimination. Gys, is it possible for a Nigerian Upwork account to get accepted? I have tried repeatedly changing my skills, but they are still rejecting my application. I want to know if I should give up entirely or if there is a chance of getting accepted.

I just withdrew with Sendvale again after the first withdrawal. This one was pretty fast. I made the request for withdrawal around 6.30 am and I got alert around 9 am. The rate was also cool, I got around 342, this was including the charges they made.

But if you include their charge into the exchange rate, then you will exchange @330. This is how Access Bank does it. I used it last week and also this morning, so I am sure of what I am saying.

Check your calculations or you were withdrawing N5k, N5k, N5k, and even at that, they shouldn't charge you up to $20. I was charged $6 for withdrawing N34k this morning. That's N20k + $3 charge, and N14k + $3. Making it N34k + $6 charge.

Wow. I don't know if I get you, but your opening statement seems to accuse me of lying. I have attached a screenshot of the deduction. I withdrew 5000 naira. You should know that in addition to Payoneer charges, each bank charges their own rate/fee. I withdrew at a Fidelity bank ATM.

The problem is not with the requirements. The issue is that they will first ask for money before asking for requirements. Are they not supposed to ask for requirements first? Wasting someone's precious time.

Market volatility should be your friend if you know what you are doing, have a strategy that works for you, have basic knowledge of asset or business valuation you have mastered your emotions (fear, greed and pride)
