There is always speculation during festive period of low demand for pork and increase in consumption of poultry products. But hopeful it will pick up again. Other pig farmers contributions are also welcome.

yes i am moving into education from agronomy, i finished PGDE (test measurement & evaluation),finished december 2016,result approved june 2017 & God help me with Distinction grade as my result. Did the professional qualifying education for teachers in october 2017 last year & passed by His Grace. Now going for Masters in education technology my brother. its could be tricky esp when u buy growers frm farms wc lacks good breeds growers vary in sizes and coupled wt d fact d u lack the esp in d biz. Your best bet is to have breeders frm among them and sell the rest. You need to seek counsel frm experienced farmers around you.

we still sell here in Ogbomoso oyo state@ 280 i was discussing wt a fellow farmer dt every thing has increased bt d price has nt increased here. What a rip off!

You can use bamboo am currently building one myself i should have uploaded it but due to network. It allows flow of air to the pen which aids growth.

It's time we protect and project our pig farming business in a competitive way.

Pork consumption continues to be stigmatised and pig farming is still ignored from many government agricultural intervention programs.

For how long we go dey do siddon look.

In Accra, Ghana a kilo of liveweight is 12 cedis which is about 600 naira.

Even though we had little increment this year, the devaluation of Naira has rubbished the gains.

It's time we advocate and increase awareness for pork consumption!

effectively tapping into our 200million population can make we Pig farmers overnight billionaires.

I have created a Facebook group "Pork Advocates" for us to improve public perception about pigs and pork consumption.

Its a group that is welcome to anyone that is sympathetic to Pigs and Pork consumption.

The group isn't about Pig production so whatever your practices you are welcome as long as you will project pigs positively.

The group will be biased towards pork consumption, processing, preservation and biosecurity

If you are a chef or pork eater you are also welcome. Recipes will be showcased.

Let's lift ourselves up!!!!!!!

at side religious beliefs many do not consume pork due to hygiene issues bt when many saw d neetness of modern pigs rearing they became interested. Even yours truely.

The cost of constructing a pen house as a beginner doesnt come cheap. But a wooden or bamboo pen can also be constructed to reduce cost.

Where is your location? Do we have other piggery farmers there? Most buyers come from the East or SS to buy in bulk which only few big farms can meet their demands. Network with other farmers. Do you also have access to cheap feed ingredients in your location what about good foundational stocks, thats where your feasibilty plan comes in.

Not being funny but from what i see in the photograph Oke Aro that this is being touted as the biggest pig farm in west Africa is BIG disgrace. This farm looks run down and frankly dirty, I am not accusing the farmers who rent the pens but have to question the management of the farm. I might be wrong so please correct me, but this is a government initiated farm? At Jessam cattle ranch and farm we take pride in our surroundings and so do many other farms, but from I see here this is not the case. Here pics of the piggery section of our farm.

You are on point the place is an eye sore with what i saw compared wt my own small farm, my hope increased. I like your farm wt d standard you set you shd be selling to foreign countries.

When they tried exchange d fake frm d origial it didnt work d guy kept askin me if i was a pastor and i was a novice to all ds packaging ontill i kept seeing them on Nairaland.

It has been a while I commented in this thread. ayosmart i thought Astron imported camborough pigs, and when you use the term terminal sire line, in my limited knowledge of pig genetics you mean the boars imported are solely for producing market pigs and not establishing a breeding line. I happen to have seen the boars at iart, they have large white, landrace, duroc and one called genconverter.
The desire for pure bred pigs is universal but hybrids are better suited for most commercial farms. We need to specialise and allow breeder farms handle the management of the pure lines. Large white and landrace are reputed sow line breeds while the duroc are terminal. The current rave camborough is actually a large white /landrace hybrid. I believe farmers should know this and know what they are buying. Pure breeds are far more expensive than hybrids.
Lastly management of these breeds is very vital so in your desire to aquire, have in mind that the purest breed with suboptimal care is a waste of resources.
