@ robonski This is so amusing, i too am learnin frm my expenditure in fish farming. Most of us think that once we have only money we are good to go. And many of those consultants are afta their pockets nt after ur progress. Many dont even have a farm of theirs. Its nt every thing u learn by instructn bt also by experience its nt enough to buy manuals or read threads and u think u knw it all. The best advice is even if u have money understudy somebody who is practising inorder to gain mastery of d biz.

you really need to b very careful because u av not been in Nigeria for a long time and ppl will be afta ur pocket s even those u think are ur friends knwin u are just comin frm a diff environment where things works be prepared for so many things if not, ur 2m may nt just amount to nothin cos rate of inflatn is very high. Any business u dont knw really well is an high risk rather than start urs immediately humble urself by taking a teachin job in a creche where by u can understudy d system and d naija environment or you stick to d clothing biz wc also brings steady income if u can be supplyin small boutique shops. TOKUGAWA: Learning is a continuous process,I must confess right from day one I have gained a lot from this tread,I mean a lot.Robonski,Abx1,Aquatic n Excelsior may God bless u all. In addition to what Abx1 one contributed earlier,if u are using an earthen pond,its not all anout you just getting abokis to dig as if its a soak away,u must make sure a that a specialist is involved.To avoid the problem of having to use a pumping machine make sure your pond is constructed in a way that d whole water can be drained in a matter of 2 hrs max without d use of a pump.

That is d problem i tryin to solve nw d man whom i consulted said i would use pumping machine to drain wc am now thinking might deplete d little resourses i av left. D pond has been constructed any way i can stil use pipe to drain?

ab1x: Use salt to fertilize ur pond. Try and be using water pumping machine to pump out water at least every 2 weeks, it will make them stay healthy and eat very well. Before 2 weeks that u will change their water, try to pump fresh water from the well on them once in a while at least every 3 days. It will aid them to swim very well, eat very well and grow very well. Make sure the pond have outlet that the polluted water will pass through when pumping in fresh water.

you see bro dt is why i say u are more of a specialist in ds area.

ab1x: It shows water is not entering into the pond very well. If the green algae is too much, it can reduce the 0xygen(02) in the water which may result in your fish dropping. Also, d green water shows that the water is somehow polluted due to their excreter, urine and the left over feeds which release oil in the pond. If not probably handle, you may have a major crisis in the pond. I don't know the type of earthen pond u used maybe flow through method or u make use of borehole but u sure need to allow water into the pond so that they can eat very well n also enhance their growth. Also, because you are feeding with floating feeds, always use on a spot feeding method and make sure it is closer to the outlet, do not over feed, make sure u take your time in feeding them (systematically). Over time, I've observed that d green water affect the growth of fish. Avoid it.

what do u suggest on pond fertilisation i learnt it may result in algae boom wc causes o2 depletion. D pond i just constructed is nt in swampy area or close to a river bt i intend to use well water water to fill it usin water pump.

excelsiorfarm: it is best for earthen ponds,about algae boom,some are good,to solve depletion of oxygen,u can do flow thru,even driping water into yr pond will do,another thing is if u do excessive fertilizatn,yr fishes can experience peeled skin,prone to diseases.
