The favorite for the labour leadership has pulled out just days after launching his campaign- saying the added pressure has not been a comfortable experience. Chuka Umunna announced his withdrawal from the race to replace Ed Miliband in a statement on Twitter this morning. The Shadow Business Secretary said since the General Election he has been “subject to the added level of pressure that comes with being a leadership candidate.” “I have not found it to be a comfortable experience.” He said after further reflection he has decided to withdraw his candidacy. Speculation is already rife as to why the Streatham MP, who only formally launched his campaign on Tuesday, is standing aside so soon. Chukka, seen a young moderniser in the Labour party, has a penchant for blingy watches and is a DJ in his spare time. His statement in full. “Shortly before the election campaign, I made the decision, in the event that Labour was defeated and a new Leader was to be elected, to stand for the leadership of the party if there was a desire in the party for me to do so. “I dearly hoped Labour would win the election and it was a decision I would not have to implement. “I also thought I understood the scrutiny and attention a leadership contest would bring. “As a member of the Shadow Cabinet, I am used to a level of attention which is part and parcel of the job. “I witnessed the 2010 leadership election process close up and thought I would be comfortable with what it involved. “However since the night of our defeat last week I have been subject to the added level of pressure that comes with being a leadership candidate. “I have not found it to be a comfortable experience. “One can imagine what running for leader can be like, understand its demands and the attention but nothing compares to actually doing it and the impact on the rest of one’s life. “Consequently after further reflection I am withdrawing my candidacy. “I apologise to all those who have kindly supported and encouraged me to do this and for disappointing them. “I know this will come as I surprise to many but I had always wondered whether it was all too soon for me to launch this leadership bid – I fear it was. “Most importantly, I continued to have very real concerns and worry about this bid’s impact on those close to me. “I intend to carry on playing my full role as a proud member of our Shadow Cabinet taking on the Tories. “I also hope to play a leading role in Labour’s campaign to keep the UK in the EU during the forthcoming referendum which is absolutely crucial. “Most importantly, I will as ever continue to serve the area I know and love – the Streatham parliamentary constituency” http://www.sunnation.co.uk/chuka-umunna-pulls-out-of-labour-leadership/

Hoodlums bomb Rivers High Court, SANs kick JANUARY 6, 2014 BY SUCCESS NWOGU, ILORIN The Rivers State House of Assembly Port Harcourt. The political crisis rocking Rivers State took a dangerous dimension on Monday as an explosive, suspected to be a bomb, rocked a state High Court, Ahoada. No casualty had been reported as of the time of filing this report. The case of contempt of court against Mr. Evans Bipi, the leader of the group of six lawmakers in the state House of Assembly, loyal to the Supervisory Minister of Education, Mr. Nyisom Wike, was slated to be heard. In spite of the order of the court, Bipi is reported to still be parading himself as the authentic Speaker of the Rivers House of Assembly. Meanwhile, two Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Mr. Yusuf Ali and Mr. Adeniyi Akintola, have condemned the burning of a High Court in Ahaoda, Rivers State. In separate telephone interviews with our correspondent in Ilorin on Monday, they warned against a recurrence. Ali, who is the Chairman, Anti-Corruption Commission, Nigerian Bar Association, urged security agencies to apprehend the culprits and ensure that the full weight of the law was brought to bear on the perpetrators, if the act was intentional. “I strongly condemn the act if it was deliberate. I condemn it with every fibre in me. The security agencies should go after the perpetrators if it was intentional. If it is arson, then we must get to the root of it,” Ali said. Akintola appealed to the political class to avoid over-heating the polity. He warned that nothing should be done to jeorpardise the nation’s democracy and inhibit judicial activities and quick dispensation of justice. Akintola said, “The burning of the court is highly despicable and condemnable. I condemn it in all its entirety. “I want to appeal to the political class to be very careful. Some of us fought and put our lives on the line for this democracy. “It is quite unfortunate that some of those who had no iota of contribution or know the geography of any detention camp are the ones reaping the benefits. They have to be very careful.” Details later punchng.com/news/hoodlums-bomb-rivers-high-court |
sheymaziggy: Bitter truth bro, dis propaganda started with gej pdp. dey created d ethnic line as an excuse for dere inability to govern well, dey spread d propaganda to gullible SE, dat dey are criticized because dey frm d minority, SE don't want to believe criticism is a norm in democracy due to d gej/pdp propaganda, gullible people. Its a known fact that Yorubas are d greatest critics cos we more open minded and neutral in ethnic politics, that's y d greatest critic of OBJ regime was Yorubas, even when OBJ was building infrastructures nd bringing in telecoms as one of his achievement, we Yorubas criticized him dat he didn't do any policy to affect nigerian directly. When everybody called him a monkey, there was nothing like y are u yabbing our own, even after d debt cancelation Yorubas still criticized him o, so who is gej that we shouldn't criticise. OBJ is still more abused Dan gej, u knw what it is to call someone a monkey. SmhTrue talk my brother. 100% spot on. God bless you! |
I don't know why some sections of this country always tribalized everything when it comes to politics. This is not about individuals or personals, its all about political parties doing what they know how to do best. It happens everywhere in the world. Its almost normal for every opposition party to find faults in the policies of the sitting government and tries to bring them down in other to win the next election. Go to the US, the republicans will always find a fault in every policies proposed by the Democrates, same with UK, the Labour are always at loggerhead with the Conservatives. (vice versa). But here in Nigeria, its always they dont like us. During OBJ first election, you guys voted him (PDP). Same thing during his second election. Can you remember how many states Yar'dua won in the east during his election? so, whats the fuss with we will not vote APC in 2015. Pls tell me, how many states has AD/AC/APC ever won during any past presidential election in the east? The problem is never between GEJ and Tinubu nor Akpabio and Fashola, its between PDP vs APC. Let them sort themselves out. During OBJ era we all knew the royal rumble between him OBJ and Tinubu, though from the same southwest, but because they are from different political parties, they never in support of each other. That is politics. Simply because GEJ is the president and the political head of PDP does not mean APC hates him, he'll always be at the receiving end period. so, dont give us that your stupid insinuation that Yorubas and Housas dislike GEJ and are doing everything possible to bring him down. Which party una dey vote before, no be PDP? so whats your headache about. Am not an APC card party member nor am i a swing voter, but i support APC and what they stand for. I voted against OBJ in his 1st election, unfortunately was not around for the second election and during Yardua election. in 2011 i also voted for Nuhu Ribadu, cause he was the flag bearer of the party i support. If tomorrow, APC presents Kwakwanso, or Aregbesola or Rochas or Ngige, thats the person i'll vote for. i dont vote along Ethnics or Tribal lines. Please support whoever you want to support and leave us to do likewise. Please enough of this they dont like us..... Wetin self..... na una go be the first person to rule 9ja ni? Abegiiiii |
The OP just wanna be funny, that's all. Sincerely, all he said here na total lie. First in first, no celestial church, I repeat, no celestial church inrespect of the location. Either here in Nigeria or UK will start their service @ 9am. Forget if they are having harvest or not, it will never happen. Second, from ketu parish to elephant and castle parish in london, av never seen anywere in celestial church where women will gather round a prophet inside church...haba take am easy now. That's a fraking big lie!!! Now imagine an harvest day where u have many visitors, and u talking of a prophet chasing ppl around with brrom and stick, na masquerade? All this ur fabricated lies na just to make ur story sweet. Attend a good parish next time like tejuosho parish in Yaba or Elephant @ castle or New jerusalem in UK and not that ur mama fake story church and come bk here to let us know ur xperince. |
What a wonderful lie. Comon guys..Haba!!! Op, you're a big time liar. 1st, have you even seen a situation where someone on first/Business class stay on the dame quee with economy passenger? Bro, wen it comes to checking in, they don't meet. Secondly, for the kelechi or wetin be him name asking OBJ about being molested, tell me, have u ever been inside Emirates business class? You even lied to the point that people where ignoring him all thru. Which ppl? You mean they allowed everyone to take a stroll from economy cabin to business cabin to have a look @ baba? Comon, no be all of us they village they chop Akpu all day now. Anyway, am not a fan of OBJ, but @ least if u want to tell us stories nxt time, do your homework very well. |
1025: i don't know between other nigerians outside and the ones on nairaland who are easy to manipulate.Best write-up on Nairaland this year. |
Ngige all d way! Long live APC!!! |
Johnadaft and his clueless ministers can't perform Majic with our economy, but surely can perform majic with 225M for 2 BMW cars. Idiotas ![]() |
Enough said... Now you guys should ask yourself this simple question, why do so many multi-millionaires/billionaires use german cars. Also, notice most presidents and head of states prefer german cars as official cars. Very simple....absolutely un-comparable! |
