Farmerakinloye6:Please did you use anti UV tarpouline or nylon, and please where did you buy it? |
mcyemite:Yes, from your location in Ota, down to the main markets in Lagos, CU99 (now African giant) sells more than other varieties, the only thing is the dark green cucs sell at higher prices of like N1500 or N2000, but the fact that the African giant variety sells more than them means it's the most chosen in these axis. Another thing you should know is that African Giant compensates for the short fall in price by producing more fruits for you, also a bag is filled up with fewer number of cucumbers because of it's bigger size compared to the dark green types with the exception of Deawy by eastwest. |
aliadi2:If you already have the water in a tank, you can use a surface pump of like 1hp to get it to the location of the new borehole or get 2" hose and use a mud pump |
mcyemite:The variety you have in this pic is African Giant by Thai agro, where is your location? |
Omagafarm:Can you list the farmland location and price per acre |
Aquadude16:Sorry for your loss, please get up and start working, never lose hope. Last year I lost one acre of tomatoes because there was no consistent rain and the tomatoes were not on drip tape, by September when I finally fix drip and transplanted another one acre of tomatoes, I still loss everything because the sep/Oct rain was just too much. Then I prepared one acre for cucumber to be sold by Early January and still loss everything even though I had it on fully irritated land because there was no rain at all for Dec,Jan and February here in Ogun state; the sun was too much, I had the cucs on ridges, there was no fuel this period and the variety I used could not withstand all the stress. I did another one acre of Hybrid Okra by December on fully irrigated land and still lost everything because of the above condition. But you know what, I didn't need anybody to tell me to move on because I had been making money from this same crops before; for instance, this year now I have 2 acres of cucs and 1 acre of tomatoes, I have harvested 3 times from one of the cucumber that is ready and started paying the debts I accumulated last year, we die here ni o. |
You'll be surprised that even this one too will be left in custody without execution after a judge sentences him to death simply because the Governor refuses to sign his execution order, people like this should not be allowed to stay alive under any condition, animal |
freshrose:Mokoloki is very popular, it's along papa road, you may go through Omu junction or via Mosadomi, you might want to use bike because of the poor state of the road. If you live in ofada, it might be a good idea to get a motorcycle of your own if you're thinking of farming around Moko because daily bike should be around 1k to and fro. As for the popular OgunOsun Farm settlement which is rented to the general public at 20k/hectare/year, there's river there that you can make use of and this will save you the stress of traveling farther inside Moko, while it is true that the OgunOsun land has been over used and will definitely not be good for doing pepper, there are some lands around OgunOsun that belong to private families that have not been overused, the only thing is the lands are not tractorable like OgunOsun, but they'll be good for pepper and okra. Another thing you can do if you live in Ofada is to meet land agents or Omoonile's, there are some landed properties in acres all around that are fenced that you can rent on yearly bases, while these properties may not have boreholes, people leaving around those properties usually have boreholes, you can talk to them if they'll allow you pump water and pay. |

Farmerakinloye6:thank you sir |
Hello @farmerakinloye, @farmtech, @flowmama, everyone here, where can I get Jorad seeds today pls? |
The person who adviced you to wait has actually given you a good advice. Consider the advantages and disadvantages of planting now, Advantages: your plants won't have water stress because the rain will water them for you and the sun is not hot. Disadvantages: All the novice farmers are planting cucumber now using the rain and this has already affected the price in places like Lagos, too much rain will wash your manure and other nutrients of the soil away, can you handle downy with this rain, if you spray saaf/funguforce/copper everything will be washed away even before they start working (you will have to spray and drench before they can protect the plant, you still have to pray it does not rain immediately you drench), the seeds could be washed away if you plant directly, the young seedlings could be killed by 2 much water even if you nursed before transplanting, the effectiveness of other fungicides like cabrioduo/ortival top will also be reduced and so many other disadvantages too. I advice you wait till the middle or end of this month to see if the rain will reduce before you plant so that the challenges are minimal and the price would have Increased by the time you start harvesting |
grandpoh:It's not easy watering manually, but encourage yourself with the fact that your tomatoes should be ready next month when a crate should still be selling above 10k, this will make you ignore the stress of manual watering, if you don't water regularly, the fruits will take up more water than they can hold when it eventually rains and they will start to crack; another thing: continue to spray catapillarforce or belt expert because of sucking worms and tuta that might have been deposited on the flower by butterfly and they will form inside the fruits and begin to spoil it. |
