Should I for example be getting happy that there are no yoruna names in an owerri bank robbery as if that is supposed to exonorate my tribe of criminal activities or what?

Your second statement only shows your IQ.

Shut Up you chipmunk, Babapupa AKA Eko Ile. Despite all we know about crime and rituals in SW, you guys have always lived in denial. Slowly your bubbles are being bursted and your oozy rumps are being exposed with each blow of the wind.

There's no place as poor as this in the whole south east

Not when the poorest trader in SW makes 100 times what this poor farmer makes in one day. Trading has helped Igbos a lot to lift them from abject poverty. All over Nigeria, be it SW, SE and North, smallholder farmers remain the poorest of the lot. There are less exclusively smallholder farmers in Igboland than elsewhere in Nigeria.

Im sure that if I ask Reno Omokri what "Chineke!" means, he probably doesnt know either.

Like most Nigerians who are not Igbo, he will say it means "God"

Which is not entirely true

Your are right and the responses I see attacking you bears out that your assumption is correct that most don't know what Chineke means. Chineke does not translate to God. Chineke means ''God creates'' (Chukwu neke). The name of God in Igbo should be Chukwu and not Chineke.

@ bolded................................are you sure?

If truly Jonas was a linguist (as you claimed and dependent on your "local" definition of a linguist) then he jonas had no need to collaborate with a yoruba man to commit his ibo language to print.

Jonas is a ''linguist'' in English and Igbo (and most likely Yoruba too). Ajayi was only a linguist in English. Of course, I believe Ajayi spoke/wrote Yoruba in addition to English. But the main subject of interest here is Igbo, which Ajayi did not speak nor write. It is very conceivable that Jonas also actually translated the materials from English to Igbo. If Ajayi could not speak Igbo, there was no way he could write in Igbo. I believe Jonas was not as educated a man as Crowther was; he probably only spoke and wrote in smattering English. Only educated and especially motivated folks think of writing a book.

I believe you are not an Igbo man. But if you by any chance are, you are a disgusting and divisive ''Igbo man''. So you are the real Igbo while other Igbos from wawa (as you put it) are fake, right? Stuuupid

Helo Nairalanders/Chevening Alumni,

Kindly advise:

Would you recommend that I quit my current N240k-paying job for a Chevening (UK Masters Degree) Scholarship slot?
Chevening alumni in the house, please advise and share your experiences during and post-study.

Please help me reach Nairalanders.

Is this 240K per month or per annum? If per month I will advise you to stay back in Nigeria. If per annum (which is peanut, actually), it might be worth considering going for your MSc. Before you complete your UK program, start looking for PhD opportunity in the US or Canada or Australia.

it is not a big deal bro.

Ajayi was not a linguist (of Igbo), since he could not speak/write it himself. Do you at all know what a linguist means?

There is no evidence that Ajayi spoke Igbo or even studied Igbo -which is how a linguist is defined, in this case. He was assisted to ONLY produce an Igbo book from English. He gets the credit, but not without also mentioning and crediting the interpreter (who actually is the linguist here).

You couldn't write in a language you do not know how to speak unless you got 100% help. Okay? Of course it is no big deal now, having happened more than 150 years ago. Who cares?

37. Bishop Ajayi Crowther, a Yoruba, in 1857 produced a reading book for the Igbo Language and a full grammar and vocabulary of NUPE in 1864.
This is only partially correct. Ajayi Crowther worked with an Igbo (Igbo man named Jonas) interpreter for that project. Ajayi did not speak Igbo, so could not have ''produced'' an Igbo book from English language. He co-produced the book with the Igbo man. Did he try to take the glory alone and the falsehood is being perpetrated by Ngbatis (Afonjas)?

1856 == Crowther and Jonas stayed together in Lagos, where Jonas taught his master Igbo

1857 == Crowther produced the first book in Igbo, with Jonas's help. Isoama-Ibo Primer has 17 pages, with the Igbo alphabet, words, phrases, sentence patterns, the Lord's Prayer, the Ten Commandments, and translations of the first chapters of Matthew's Gospel. Thus Crowther became the first to use the Lepsius "Standard Alphabet" (Oraka p. 25).

http://www.columbia.edu/itc/mealac/pritchett/00fwp/igbo/igbohistory.html

Note: both Crowther (of Yoruba descent) and Jonas (of Igbo descent) were ex-slaves from Sierra Leone, but Crowther became his ''master'' (whatever that meant at that time; I am guessing Ajayi was then a Bishop and Jonas was one of the young church workers under his tutelage).

This matter was thrashed out here not too long ago

Lol!! Good question. But Mozambique could actually be better than Nigeria, after all. And, I am not talking about national GDPs which is a fake measure of the wealth of a nation (of course Mozambique is a smaller economy than Nigeria). I am talking about micro economics and family economics and individual wellbeing. Between an Average (poor) Nigerian and an average (poor) Mozambican who is overall better (healthcare, schooling opportunities, savings, physical security, food security, nutrition security, welcoming and neat environment, etc)?

Meanwhile, may the soul of the departed RIP. Amen

If she has a young business and took a loan to buy a car, she is not wise and is no better than a slay Queen. She might have gotten a huge contract for all we know from someone who heard her story and wanted to encourage her. However, using the proceeds to buy a car and not for business expansion, shows she is not a worthy role model. She IS a slay Queen.

A lot of ifs here. Well, we do not know her true story concerning the car and how she made the money. Frankly, it should not be our concern. Still, that car is used (not new), probably of several back years model, and so not a big deal, except to really poor folks

This man should watch the Fulani around him. I know there are many migrant Foolanis in that area and they may have dropped some poison across the fence that killed the goats while they free ranged and the dogs while they licked the soil during patrol. The Fulani will do anything to hinder the growth of alternative animal husbandry in Nigeria.

I doubt if any hotel in Ibadan offers anything like airport shuttle, but if any does, it has to be premier hotel cos they are number 1 in Ibadan.

The usual option would be for them to call a Lagos-Ibadan shuttle cab from their usual park at Challenge or Iwo road.
The rest of the bargain would be left to you and the cab driver.

you can chat with them live
