Dibiachukwu: Racism is not wrong. Bigotry is. Bigots in eastern europe, give a whole new meaning to bigotry. Out of this world. Try russia too. The story I hear about those places, make me respect people brave enough to be there. Another place full of bigots is Asia. Most people who go there would run back immediately, if they had a choice. I know people who traveled to these places, only to realize that they made a very big mistake to use their savings for that.
Poland may be in Eastern Europe but it is not a typical Eastern European country. It is quite advanced and western in nature.

GenBuhari: Many who know me on NL know that am fiercely anti-tribalist, so please understand that what I am about to say, is not in anyway intended raise tribal sentiments, but more of a recognition of the possible tribal reality on the ground.

I have been considering starting a thread advising Igbos to learn from events leading up to the declaration of Biafra in 1967, and to be prepared if such tribal violence /genocide may re-occur.

The reason is because I am concerned that there is a looming crisis in Nigeria and it is to do with imminent collapse of crude oil prices and the likelyhood that oil may become worthless forever. Since oil is the reason that is preventing Nigeria's break up, when oil becomes worthless, there would no reason for Nigeria to stay intact.

In the event that oil prices should crash tomorrow, Nigeria has no alternative source of income and no contingency plan, people may start to starve, riots may start and wholesale tribal violence may ensue.

Igbos should start planning for this eventuality and plan for safe evacuation of their lives , businesses and property from possible hostile regions of Nigeria in the event that massacres of Igbos break out.

The US predicted Nigeria would break-up by 2015, you may ask how can they be so sure?
Well I was shocked to learn that US are now self sufficient in oil and together with Saudi Arabia, they now have the capacity to control when the oil price crash occurs.

The US and Saudis are artificially keeping oil prices high whilst US oil companies quietly sell off all their oil blocks and repatriate their profits out of Nigeria.

I hope it does not ever come to such a crisis but it would be advisable for Igbos to start planning for safe evacuation should a crisis turn genocidal.

This is what some of us Igbos have been saying from Adam. Any Igbo who does not have at least half of his investments in Igboland may be doomed. God forbid but that is a trending fact. Thanks for joining us Igbos to point this out again. You did it in a mature fashion; not the malice-filled ''advise'' from others.

Is there oil in Igbo land outside the trickles in Imo?

Just asking
They are telling you that your oil will not matter soon, and you are still asking who is producing or not producing oil.

But to assuage your ignorance, there is oil in Imo and Abia and they both belong to the nine oil-producing states. Anambra is joining them soon and in fact the only private refinery that is about to commence ops is in the oil-bearing region of Anambra

One_Naira: I actually agree with your accessment. I took a glance at your thread and not one igbo praised or care to chest beat over it, despite the fact it was a good development. if it was SW the hospital was built in, the whole thing would have been blowned out of proportion. they would have disturbed everybody and use it as a way to showcase their so called "progress" and their usual chest beating. There is a difference. a huge one at that. you are correct though, there are still more governors should be doing. until all SS and also SE, governors makes those regions what a developed nation looks like, any small thing they do imho is still under performing. kudos to orji but there's still a whole lot that needs to be done

btw: it's not that igbos have not understood the effect of pictures praising, it's just that igbos expect a lot more. that's always been the mentality of igbo. If you going to start, then you have to put your entire strength to it and show wonders left and right. that's the difference between igbos of NL and the eko ni baje crew on NL
These days, if you do not praise yourself, no one will do it for you and others will actually construe it to equate non-performance. Until now, how many people knew the gov of Jigawa State is doing quite well? It is because no one was ringing his bell for him. Fasola has mastered that (with Babapupa aka Eko Ile singing his praises from the roof top) and it is paying off for him. If you look deep, given the huge internal revenue plus huge fed allocation to Lagos, Fasola is still hitting below the belt. But his propaganda machine is quite effective. Igbo govs need to up their game, for a lot is going on in their different domains, commensurate with the money they receive/generate.

Andre Uweh: Imo state university was built by Sam Mbakwe with headquarters at Etiti and a sub campus in Aba.
Ike Nwachukwu the military governor that replaced Mbakwe relocated it to his local govt area. It then became IMOSU Okigwe. With the creation of Abia state, Isikwuato/Okigwe LGA split into two and the site of the university happen to be in Isikwuato (Uturu).
But gov Enwerem did so well to establish Imo state version of the university at a site that was vacated by FUTO.
On Imo airport, it was established by Ike Nwachukwu.
So between I and Abagworo who was right about IMSU?
On the airport, thanks for clarifying this. I later saw an article that talked about this in an unclear manner-bad journalism. But the koko of the matter is that the then Imo people's money and not fed money was used to build the airport in Owerri.

It's not always about how much you have, it's about what you do with what you have. Wasting money on private jets, on luxury Mercedes Benz vans, dashing luxury jeeps to celebrities and sponsoring people to Dubai for wedding on state funds is not development, it's lack of prudence, is mismanagement and lousy leadership..

Akwa Ibom collects almost 3 rimes more than Jigawa and also has the largest budget in Nigeria, but little Jigawa still floored Akwa Ibom and also have more to show for their little money than Akwa Ibom.
Did you see how much Oyo and Ogun are collecting? What did they do with them?

What did Tinubu do with his own collection?
Is Fasola living up to expectation with his own huge fed and internal revenues?
PoliticsRe: What Do Anambra (now Enugu), Rivers And Imo State Universities Have In Common? by omongbatim(op): 12:39am On Jun 17, 2013
Abagworo: Everything you wrote was fallacy. RSUST was built to serve Rivers and Bayelsa while ASUT was for Anambra/Enugu but was renamed in 1991 following the creation of Enugu State. IMSU was in Uturu which was built by one of the Military Governors but was seeded to Abia State and the new IMSU established at old FUTO after FUTO was moved to its permanent site.

What the 3 Universities have in common is their poor location. They are located in the heart of the busy parts of the respective cities and need to be moved to more quiet/serene sites.
See this man? Who is talking of who they were built to serve? They were built to serve people of course.
Can you tell me when the original Imo State University was built and who built it?
Can you tell me when Rivers State University was built?
Can you tell me when the original Anambra State University was built and who built it?
Can you tell me who built Imo Airport?

Let's see how much you know.

Abagworo: Mbakwe did not build Imo airport.
Who built it?
Even if not Mbakwe, the point is that Imo (then Abia and Imo) ordinary citizens contributed the money used to build it. Yes or no?

How states shared N1tr in 6 months

The 36 states in Nigeria have shared a total sum of N1 trillion between January and June from the national treasury.

In a summary of federal allocations to the states obtained by the Economic Confidential, the online intelligence magazine, within the period South-South states that are mostly oil-producing received the highest allocation of N386.8 billion followed by North-West N162.5 billion and South-West N160.7 billion.

Other regions like North-East got N119.7 billion, North-Central N117.2 billion and South-East received N99.4 billion.

In the finding by the Economic Confidential, Akwa Ibom State alone received a total sum of N104 billion while its neighbour, Cross River only got N18 billion in the first six months of the year.

Among the non-oil producing states, Lagos got the highest allocation of N48.5 billion followed by Kano with N31.9 billion. In a table that depicts the ranking of the states by the volume of allocations they received in that period, Akwa Ibom State came first with N104 billion, followed by Rivers N99.1 billion, Delta N90.4 billion, Bayelsa N49 billion and Lagos N48 billion.

On the table of recipients from the Federation Account, Ebonyi is last with N16.5 billion, Ekiti N16.7 billion, Kwara N16.8 billion, Nasarawa N16.8 billion and Taraba N17.2 billion

olabukola: Nice one but Igbos/easterners should try to elect capable men in office, it seems that after those set of govs that acheived alot you guys have chosen to elect retards.
How have current Yoruba leaders differed from the SE counterparts?

For example, what did Gbenga do that Kalu did not do? (1999-2007)
What is Fasola doing that Chime of Lagos is not doing?
Put into consideration the revenue that comes to each state, as well as the peculiar needs and foci of each state you wish to compare. Thanks

The only thing I agree with you on about current Igbo leaders is that they have not really harnessed the power of the internet and pictorials to showcase themselves. This is where Fasola and his helpers have done very well. A lot is going on in the SE that they have not been able to show to the outside world. Why are Igbos averse to camera publicity?

+ Igbos seem to be so emotionally battered that they find no good in their leaders. For example, see how despite all Orji is trying to accomplish in Abia, his people expect so much that they have not cared to celebrate his efforts so far but lambast him at the slightest opportunity. Has Orji done all that could be done in Abia? No, of course. Aba is still there to revamp. But has he done somethings worth commending him for? definitely yes.

Abia: Oil Companies Boost Health-Care Delivery By Building Chest Clinic
Abia state government

By: MATTHIAS NWOGU on June 11, 2013 - 3:03am
inShare

Nigerians who travel to India, Europe and America, to seek treatment for chest-related ailments, have been given another opportunity to do so at home. Last week, a consortium of oil companies operating under the umbrella of Agbami Partners, donated a chest clinic to the Abia state government-owned Amachara Specialist Hospital and Diagnostic Centre, Umuahia.

The Agbami Partners made up of Petrobras, Chevron, Star Deepwater, Famfa Oil Limited, Napmins and Statoil are known for their commitment at ensuring that Nigerians have access to good healthcare, technical skills, quality education and employment opportunities.

The clinic which is equipped with the state-of-the- art facilities, was officially opened by Governor Theodore Orji, with representatives of the donor agency, and several senior government officials in attendance.

The spokesman of the group, and area manager Chevron, Port- Harcourt, Mr. Joe Jakpa, said the clinic was built in fulfillment of the social responsibility of the different oil companies to Nigerians.

The group further said it had followed with keen interest, the state government’s health policy, programmes, projects, and thereafter decided to build the clinic to complement the efforts of the government in providing quality health care projects that are of international standard

. “The chest clinic the Agbami partners are donating today is one of such projects being implemented to benefit Abia state and the entire nation. We believe quality healthcare system holds the key to better life for the people and the development of the country”

The partners also announced the award of 300 scholarships to intelligent Abia indigenes in tertiary institutions who are pursuing courses in medicine and health related courses to boost human resources in the health sector.

The chief medical director, (CMD), Abia state Specialist Hospital, Prof. Augustus Mbanaso, said that the hospital has capable hands to handle all the equipment installed in the clinic, as well as the technical manpower to effect repairs of the equipment.

Prof. Mbanaso said that the clinic will serve as a referral centre for the people of the South East and people from other parts of the country with chest related problems, including tuberculosis and other such cases.

Such collaboration between government and the private sector is a welcome development as it will reduce medical tourism where Nigerians spend millions of dollars for medical treatment abroad annually.

The chest clinic would solve the problem of the many patients who visit the hospital with chest related ailments. The medical director said the Abia state Diagnostic Cenre, ranked among the best in the world as any investigation carried out in them and taken by any patient to his hospital abroad is accepted and worked with without subjecting him to fresh tests unlike what obtained in the past.

Governor Orji expressed profound gratitude to the oil companies for donating the clinic thereby supporting his government’s healthcare programme, saying that functional healthcare system has become a top priority of his administration.

He said he was convinced that the provision of dividends of democracy could only be meaningful when the citizens are healthy because only those with good health could enjoy the amenities provided by government.

The donation of chest clinic, he added, could not have come at better time than now that the former Amachara General hospital, has been transformed from a glorified clinic to a Specialist Hospital that can now offer houseman ship to medical graduates,

Governor Orji said his administration was determined to make the state a centre for health tourism. And in pursuit of this programme, the administration has built and equipped Specialist Hospitals and Diagnostic Centres at Umuahia and Aba, as well as built and equipped 250 health centres across the state,

In furtherance to the administration’s determination to improve the health care services in the state, the governor has embarked on the construction of 100 bed hospitals at Amachara, Arochukwu, Ohafia, Ikwuano, Ugwunagbo, and Aba North, to provide specialist healthcare services at the secondary level of the health care delivery system.

In addition, he has built a paediatric centre at Amachara to give specialized attention to the children, and provided 17 ambulances for the 17 Local governments.

The diagnostic centres located in Aba and Umuahia have dialysis units in the two cities. There are Eye clinics in all the major hospitals, while facilities in the general hospitals across the state are being upgraded.

Speaking at the inauguration, the permanent secretary, Abia state ministry of health, Chief Eme Onyekaba, noted that the chest clinic would go a long way in improving the overall healthcare delivery system, especially the specialist treatment of diseases of the chest.

He said that Abia has achieved one hundred percent coverage in the treatment of tuberculosis, using the directly observed therapy (DOT) as well as the modern equipment provided at the chest clinic. Onyekaba said that the clinic will help the state to handle all chest related cases reported at the clinic.

I think the governors in the East since 1999 have mostly been a bunch of thieves and rogues rigged into power, from Kalu to Theo, from Mbadinjuju to Ohakim.

With all the allocations, they ould have collectively built their own international airport siiiiiiiiiince
Uli airport was built by Eastern region (not by any individual state) and it was really a makeshift thing put together for the war purpose which it served very well.
