Maimalari:: First class citizens being chased out of their first-class country? Few years ago, Fasola chased out ''first class northerners from Lagos Abia also did the same. Now Cross River. Soon the whole south will chase them out of Nigeria. Human do not live with cows. |
Igwo Indigenes Ask Fulani Herdsmen to Leave Community Fulani cattle rearers in Igwo Clan, Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State have been given a three-month ultimatum to vacate the community to avoid an outbreak of an epidemic and further destruction of farmlands and economic crops. The ultimatum was part of the communiqué reached by Igwo community at the end of a three-day national conference held in Igwo Town Hall, Obudu, Cross Rivers State. The conference noted that though nomadic Fulanis are backed by federal law, the continued grazing of their cattle within Igwo residential areas have caused severe economic hardship on the people; with few of the streams in Igwo polluted and many cassava and rice farmlands as well as other economic crops already destroyed, fuelling tension and concerns within and outside the community. The conference, therefore, called on the Clan Council, headed by Chief Cornelius Ulem Liwhuliwhe, to employ dialogue in ensuring the conference decision was adhered to. The conference, which attracted participants from the Igwo Development Associations (IDAs) nationwide, also deliberated on key pressing issues affecting the community. Some of these included the creation of access roads and streets within the community, construction of a modern health centre, residential settlement, abolition of forest reserves within residential area, nonchalant attitude of Igwo indigenes at home and the Diaspora, Igwo Day, youth restiveness and settlement within the community and new administrative structure. Relevant Links * West Africa * Nigeria * Conflict On the creation of access roads and streets, the conference welcomed the decision to create access roads and streets within the clan and urged all Igwo development associations to be ready to support the project whenever they are called upon. The conference also called for the creation of a new administrative structure to facilitate an effective and efficient administration of the clan. Subsequently, the meeting resolved to set up with immediate effect a Community Council to lend support to the clan council, which is to remain as the highest administrative organ in the community. While the clan council is headed by the clan head, the new body will be headed by a chairman whose tenure will be two years only. The chairman of the community council, which will comprise two credible, diligent and competent persons drawn from each of the five villages in the clan, chairmen of the home branch of IDA, the youth association as well as the married and unmarried associations as automatic members, will be rotational. The communiqué, which was signed by the clan head and representatives of sister IDAs in attendance, called on all parents and guardians to caution their wards against cultism and other criminal activities that will cause breach of the law and order at home. It also urged all Igwo sons and daughters of 18 years and above to exercise their civic rights during the ongoing voter registration. http://allafrica.com/stories/201101190384.html |
^^^^^ Did they finally ban you as babapupa? lol Yes Igbos own Lagos. Go jump into Lekki Lagoon. Just mention one Yoruba town (minus Lagos which is 99% Igbo-owned) that is better than Nnewi |
bk.babe97y:That was to illustrate to you that people like you (so-called native speakers of English) write thrash (bad English), rather than trash (good English). You do not get it? Did you not see that word was in bold to make a point, fo-ol? |
Eko ile=Babapupa Your brothers in yanky are paying taxes to develop that place. Take away Lagos (owned 99% by Igbos), Nnewi, bad as it may be, is better than all your towns put together |
@topic Wetin awon omo Yoruba no go do? Has Blueteeth seen this? |
bk.babe97y:Many so-called native English speakers write thrash, just like you do. But again, you are a bloody Yoruba. |
bkbabe97y should be strung up in the neck until pronounced d--d |
bk.babe97y:Pot calls kettle black. |
ElRazur:What evidence are you asking for? |
The onus is on the poster to prove Igbos wrong where he thinks they are wrong. |
^^^^ You only need to browse nairaland archives, read Nigerian papers daily, and keep your eyes on the ground in the UK and North America (esp. USA) where most diaspora Nigerians live. |
A yoruba Senator (and third ranking person in the senate) just killed somebody recently. That should be of more concern to Yorubaman bkbabe97y. |
Bkabe97y give it up. For every crime you try to paint Igbos with, there is the same number, if not more, Yorubas committing similar crime. You have tried and failed each time. You post one, we post one and even more. So stop wasting your time. Yoruba is as bad as Igbo. Badness (so to speak) is not generic, population wise. It is individual, at most family-mediated. I will rather you concentrate on showing that Yorubas are as productive, or more productive (in all spheres of life) than Igbo, like I have been doing for the opposite scenario. In a country such as Nigeria where most news (FROM ALL PARTS OF THE COUNTRY) are bad news, the much you can do is to showcase the LITTLE good, not the bad (that everyone already knows about, except people like you who love to dwell in denial). |

ndu_chucks:How were the protesters disenfranchized? Were they eligible to vote and did not vote in the PDP primary election? |
silami:Igbos (infact, a portion of Igboland) elected those senators who eventually became the senate president. So they can be removed by their constituencies who elected them. An Igbo president of Nigeria is not elected by IGBOS ALONE. So how will they (Igbos) butt him/her out Alone? Your sense is very dim. |

After 42 years, Hollywood star, Stacie Turner, reunites with Nigerian father, By TOSIN AJIRIRE Saturday, January 15, 2011 For Stacie Turner, African-American star of wave-making Hollywood drama series, The Real Housewives of DC, father is worth more than gold. For several years, she has lived her life as an adopted child and never knew that her real father, a Nigerian was alive and kicking. Stacie advertisement But then she never gave up hope as something continued to tell her that if only she could try, one day she will meet face to face with her long lost dad, Nze Augustine Onyema, an indigene of Mbaitoli, Imo State. And as fate would have it, Arik Air, West Africa’s largest commercial carrier made it possible for the American TV star to reunite with her Nigerian father. Stacie and her husband, Jason along with a large entourage, touched down at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on Tuesday afternoon aboard Arik Air’s nonstop flight from New York. 42-year-old Stacie was born into a foster home in Washington DC. She was a fortunate child having got loving parents to adopt her at an early age. They had treated her like their own biological child and provided her with everything including a nurturing childhood, a stable home life and exposure to people, and places. Young Stacie also had experiences which inculcated in her positive self image, and this had ensured her drive to achieve success. It was not until recently that Stacie, the only African-American actress on the run-away reality TV series in Washington DC discovered that her mother is American and her father is Nigerian. In fact, it was only after discovering her medical history that she embarked on a journey to find her biological father in Nigeria. However, the mother of two, Jacob and Catherine beamed with victorious smiles as she landed in Nigeria, her native country on Tuesday. The star actress, who came with her children, including an official of the Nigerian Embassy in USA, could not contain her excitement and appreciation to Arik Air for making the historic trip possible. And she has this to say of the airline: “Arik Air is my new favourite airline! I’ve never seen a cabin like that; it’s wonderful,” adding on her twitter page thus, “Arik Airlines is the bomb! Full lounge on the plane, Nigerian food, nice staff - first class all the way baby!” As she departed JFK Airport heading for Nigeria, Stacie continued to engage her friends and fans all over the world on her twitter page. She enthused thus: “Enroute JFK to head to Nigeria to meet my family! I have dreamed of this day for so long and it’s finally here!” And immediately she landed in Owerri, Stacie informed: “Nobody’s kidnapping the kid! (We are) safe and secure. Yes! Just landed in Owerri. We are guests of the Governor—doing a 2-day medical mission—then meeting my family.” Speaking about her impending meeting with her father, Stacie said, “I am overwhelmed and thrilled to find a welcoming family in Nigeria - my birthfather, 10 siblings and a huge extended family - who I plan to meet now. I’m really excited about the prospect of meeting my birth father for the first time and it’s going to be an exciting time when I get to Mbaitoli, near Owerri where he resides.” At about 4pm on Thursday, Blockbuster learnt that Stacie finally reunited with her long lost biological father. And with tears of joys streaming down her beautiful face, the famous American actress hugged and hugged Nze Onyema while the sun stood still. In 2009, Stacie increased her profile and platform. She decided to join the cast of the Bravo Network television franchise, The Real Housewives, a wave-making drama based on the lives of high profile women in Washington, DC. Unlike most actors who find reality TV a risky deal, Stacie perceived it as a unique marketing platform to broaden awareness of her business and philanthropic efforts. But it turned out successful as the first season of the show garnered the second highest ratings in the history of the Bravo franchise. While Stacie has enjoyed substantial success in business, she has always maintained a passionate civic interest in the lives of children in her community. Her first gift, “the foundation of family”, as she calls it, kindled a deep desire to positively impact the lives of adolescent foster children, and help them forge a path towards achievement despite obstacles. With the belief that: “the only difference between an ordinary life and an extra-ordinary life is the “extra”, Stacie founded Extra-Ordinary Life to provide the “extra”. Extra-Ordinary Life (XOL) is a charitable programme (within the Pursuit of Dreams Foundation) that nurtures and enriches the lives of teen girls living in the DC foster care system. The organisation seeks to: drive vision in youth, through exposure to people, places and opportunities beyond their current access; and to inspire them to dream big and aspire to do great things in life. This past July, XOL took eight foster teen girls to South Africa during the FIFA 2010 World Cup — a trip captured on film by BET Networks that chronicled the amazing journey of discovery. The documentary, entitled, Extra-Ordinary Life: Journey to South Africa has aired in 54 countries in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. It is scheduled to air in the United States early this year. Meanwhile, Arik Air will be flying Stacie around the country. According to the airline’s Senior Vice President Commercial, Mr. Kevin Steele, this is a way of discovering her fatherland. “We are excited that Stacie has chosen to fly Arik Air for this important mission. We will be flying her around Nigeria on this first visit to her fatherland and I’m sure she’ll love it,” he says. http://odili.net/news/source/2011/jan/15/503.html

Adekola and some of the fake documents (photo) http://odili.net/news/source/2011/jan/16/punch/images/pix201101160285087%5B1%5D.jpg[s][/s] |
Sunday, January 16, 2011 Desperation for Canada lands man in trouble TOYOSI OGUNSEYE His quest to relocate abroad and drop the shackles of poverty pushed him to the extreme of desperation. Rasheed Adekola was arrested on Tuesday at the Canadian embassy for submitting 17 fake documents in order to obtain a student visa to Canada, TOYOSI OGUNSEYE reports. Adekola and some of the fake documents ONE, two, three, four, five, 17! That was the number of forged documents submitted by Rasheed Adekola at the Canadian Embassy in Lagos in order to obtain a student visa. That was not his first time. Adekola started applying for the visa in 2009 and had applied four times. Each time he submitted his application materials and was denied, he always returned with more documents to convince the officials at the visa section that he was worthy of it. It wasn't as if the officials at the embassy were ignorant of Adekola's antics from the beginning. In fact, they knew the documents he submitted during his first application were not genuine but they decided to ignore him hoping that he would stop. A source at the embassy who did not want his name mentioned said that when the embassy gets fake documents, they deny the applicant visa hoping that the person will not bother applying again. "It usually works because they spend a lot of money obtaining the documents and they are usually not eager to spend that amount of money when we turn down their request," he said. Adekola was however different. He refused to give up and his application soon became a regular one at the embassy. After he applied the fourth time, officials at the embassy decided that they had had enough of him. What piqued them the most was that Adekola submitted a certificate of scholarship from the Kano State government. The purported certificate from the Kano government read that Adekola had been given scholarship worth over $80,000 to study business administration at the Acadia University, Canada. So, they invited him for an interview. When Adekola got the letter of interview from the embassy, he was very excited; that was the first time he was getting a 'positive' response from the embassy. He couldn't wait to visit the embassy on the appointment day which was last Tuesday. He appeared in his best attire and answered all the questions he was asked with confidence. The interview however turned sour after the interviewer accused 28-year-old Adekola of submitting fake documents. Initially, he denied the allegation vehemently; unknown to him that the embassy had alerted the police to arrest him. While he was still denying the allegation, a policeman from the Special Fraud Unit, Milverton, Ikoyi, Lagos, stepped into the interviewing room and arrested Adekola. The 17 documents submitted by the suspect included a diploma certificate from the National Centre for Economic Management and Administration, a certificate of achievement from KarRox for successfully completing Oracle 10g, a first school leaving certificate from the Lagos State government, a school leaving certificate and testimonial from Abibat Mogaji Millennium Senior Secondary School. Other data submitted by him were a birth certificate from Mushin local government, notification of result from the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, a scholarship certificate from the Kano State government, a desktop publishing certificate from Omega computer village and identity cards from Federal polytechnic, Ilaro and NCEMA. Adekola however told SUNDAY PUNCH that not all the documents were forged. According to him, it was one Ibrahim Ogundele that offered to obtain the documents for him at no cost until he received the visa. He said, "I finished secondary school in 2004 and I have been trying to gain admission into the university since then. In 2006, the Lagos State University offered me admission to study business administration but I did not have money to pay my school fees so I let it go." Adekola, who lives with his elder brother and does menial jobs said that Ogundele, offered to assist him to seek for greener pastures outside the country. He said, "Ogundele is like a big brother in our neighbourhood at Shasha. He told me that he has been assisting people to get visas and I decided to try my luck too. Even though he said that he would do it for free, I used to give him money occasionally. From 2009 to date, I have given him N55, 000." Adekola further said that he did not know that Ogundele gave him forged papers, "That was why I had the confidence to go to the embassy for the interview. If I knew that they were not genuine, I would not have appeared. When Ogundele said that he was going to help me, I did not know that he would offer me forged documents." The suspect stated that only his secondary school and computer skills certificates were genuine. He said, "Ogundele said I should give him all the documents I have because he would need them to procure other documents. I even told him that I was going to the West African Examinations Council to collect my original certificate but he offered to go for me. Unknown to me, what he got for me was not genuine." Other documents Ogundele allegedly gave Adekola were a Will that was purportedly written by Adekola's late father giving the suspect two choice properties in Lagos, a Toyota jeep and Harvestfield Industries Ltd; forged shares certificates from Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc and Oando Plc; forged Lagos state certificates of occupancy, among others. Adekola, however, told our correspondent that his late father did not bequeath him with any of such properties and that everything was a figment of Ogundele's imagination. Adekola will soon be charged to court and made to face the consequences of his actions alone as Ogundele relocated to the United Kingdom last September. http://odili.net/news/source/2011/jan/16/807.html |
