Your comments are really enlightening. Since you know a bit about Mazda cars, whats your honest opinion about the Mazda MPV - 2001, 2004, 2006 models? I really admire them but I have heard a lot of reviews/comments about the gear/transmission issue and that gets me scared because I am looking to purchase a car soon and I dont want to put money in a money-drain in form of a car.
Also, are the parts readily available and are Mazda specialist mechanics also available?

I think Idachaba is in a better position to talk on mazda MPV since he uses one but honestly from what I read and little I have known about cars ;most transmission issues arise from the moment our mechanics change your transmission fluid because in 98% of these cases they never use the recommended oil.

MPV parts are readily available that I can assure you and most mechanics are competent enough to handle minor repairs.

Volvo S40 1999 model uses Dexron 111 transmission fluid.Considering that the vehicle has been parked for long and you won't know if they had changed it before (most likely with another brand) it is safer you just drain it and refill with Original Dexron 111 transmission fluid which you can get from Oando!e certain that your mechanic is competent to correctly handle this.

Personally what I do is to find means of having an idea of what my items weigh.The internet is a great resource.I know that amazon most times display weight of most items.So what I do is to find all means possible to have an idea of the weight of the item and use the upper limit to estimate my shipping.I eliminate in land delivery charges by buying from sites that offer free shipping from certain amounts and duly take advantage of that.Although it's been a long time I bought items directly from USA anyway.

I think it is better you state what the cost of freight is Per kg or lbs so that one knows what the parts will cost him in total.What happens if after paying the and buyer discovers your shipping charges are not okay with him? What most people have challenges with is getting it down to Nigeria and not even the purchase itself.- suggest you come up with what u charge per kilograme or pounds for shipping so that buyers can incorporate this in their budget ab initio and have a proper estimate of what their parts would cost them.

I am new on this thread and need your advice on choice of inverter make and capacity to opt for. My home has like 2hrs of daily power supply though i have a 3kva back-up generator. I need an inverter that can suffice for my appliances;

one LED, 32 inch samsung, 4 energy saver bulbs (2 at a time),
one Dstv decoder
one big ox fan
a small bedside fridge

I would suggest you remove the bedside fridge and ox fan and go for a pure sine wave (Mopower 900va) with 2 200ah deepcycle battery and a 30amp external charger.

What brand is your inverter? Most major brands have service centres .

I use one 30amp charger I bought from Olowu.I think its made by Gaoxingi.Its been pretty good so far.

I have not had casue to change anything in mine except the brake pad but be rest assured that whatever u can't find in Ladipo, you will always get in Ojuelegba since it shares virtually same engine parts with ford escape and some with mazda MPV.

And really if you expect people to tell you to buy it, I am not sure many would as long as it is not a Honda or Toyota.

Ford are so poor with their designs exceept for their newer models.

The alternator issue is a design flaw.There is absolutely nothing you can do about it.Mazda MPV has the same issue.The location of the alternator I guess is a major factor .But like I stated in my earlier post, if you ever have issue with the alternator, just ensure your auto electrician gets the one that is repairable because most time what fails is either the diode or voltage regulator.My frinds MPV had similar problem but upon bringing out the alternator the rewire realised it could be repaired and the problem was fixed.But his father in-laws case was different.They had to buy another alternator.what I advise is when you have cause to change the alternator do not change with Motocraft OEM , theyare not repairable.

sage007: Was at an auto garage one day and I overheard the mechanic discussing some issues about the incessant alternator problem the car was giving its owner. This is just my brief experience with the Tribute.

I have been using mine since February this year and the only issue I've had is with the alternator.I have changed it twice now until the mechanic had to go and get one that is repairable oFf a used car.That has served me close to 2 months now without any issue.Asides that, it's a very ok car.The engine is designed by Ford so expect most parts to be compatible with FORD ESCAPE.

How much is the mercury 3.5kva inverter?

oneman: Omotoda, please can you let me know the size of your battery bank, I use the same product and yes it powers my fridge and other appliances very fine but the run time is not long when the fridge is turned on (when I was on only 2 batteries before )

I use my 2.4kva,24volts mercury inverter with just my fridge and freezer alone.I have only 2 12V,200ah battery connected to it.the combined power rating of both the fridge and freezer is about 440watts and I run the inverter for about 10 hours before turning it off on my own.I think your batteries are not that good.Load could be a factor too but considering that u hv a total of 24x380ah that is huge power man.check ur batteries if it charges in just 6 houts then its either not charging well or sulphonation has occured to them.

How much is used front shock absorber for 2002 volvo S80?

HAVE: The general rule of thumb is to replace your spark plugs with Original equipment manufacturer(OEM). Find below brands of plugs for different make of vehicles:
1. Denso and NGK plugs - Asian Vehicles
2. Autolite - Ford Vehicles
3. Bosch - German Vehicles
4. AcDelco - GM Vehicles
5. Champion - Dodges

I am not sure this is a general rule.Ford vehicles usually have Motorcraft parts including plugs as it OEM parts.Even my Mazda Tribute came with Motorcraft plugs, alternator and serpentine belt.

georgio: Please i own a Mazda 323 GLX 1998 model. for the past one year i have been have issues with the car producing black smoke and the fuel consumption is on the high side. Even after changing the oil and plugs still no change. I have changed the air flow-meter but still no change.
Someone has advised me to change the brain box. Can anyone pls advise me on what to do or a reliable source where i can get genuine mazda parts in lagos or a brand new brain box.

I had a similar problem with my mazda 626 hatch back 1995 model.It is your brain box.In the period I used the car I changed the brain box once because of this issue.2 years after the same thing occured, fortunately the rewire I got then knew a place somewhere in abule egba where they reprogrammed the brain box and it worked perfectly after until I sold it and bought my tribute.It's certainly your brain box.

When it occured the first time my mechanic claimed its the mass air flowmeter, we drove it to ladipo , they put another one but the same thing occured, until a rewire in Ladipo then said its the brain box and changed it and it worked fine until after 2 years again when it resurfaced on the new brain box and it was reprogrammed.

Good to know you fixed the problem. The diode was really the culprit. Mine has had it's alt light on right from Kansas. I just don't bother about fixing it but now I'm tempted to do so.

I've been using mine for a year 4 months now and sincerely speaking it's been smooth, good and mostly dependable.

BTW, how much did you get the alternator and where did you fix it?

My brother, if your alternator is charging the battery , do not bother because I can bet you will never get one as reliable as what is there presently.

I bought the first alternator for 12k and this second one for 10k.the guy discounted 2k because the one I bought initially did not last more than a month.

But honestly, I am looking at getting a new one from US cos all these tokunbo are just not worth the trouble.

It is most likely you bought fake batteries.Have you used the inverter with other batteries prior to changing to the present set.If it is your initial set up then most likely the batteries are fake. A lot of dubious people by weak deep cycle batteries open dem up neatly, fill them with acidn close them up and sell them as new.

It is advisable you have all four batteries changed with reputable one, preferably trusted brands.

IdaraCHODB: There is another possibility, in addition to the above, that the alternator is not supplying adequate power.

Have you tried using it with the A/C on? Was it so strained ( that is, it could not keep up and so it drained your battery?)

Has it ever "died" on you? From personal experience, I would not do interstate until this issue is sorted out.

That's not the way the vehicle's charging system was meant to work!

Thanks.The vehicle has never died on me.I changed the alternator 2 days ago.It was discovered that the diode was bad.I had to replace with another tokunbo which I pray will last longer this time around.The position of the alternator based on the engine design is kind of flawed for tribute.The alternator is placed beneath the car where you have harshest conditions in terms of contact with water.I just hope it lasts this time.I would appreciate contact of a parts dealer that selss new tribute parts from the house.

The four batteries are connected in series, each 12V. I do not kno the 'ah' since it is not specified on it

How long have you been using the batteries? I they are over a year I suggest you just change all Four.You can however have them tested. But it is alwatys best practice to change all batteries once one is bad to prevent imbalance in ampere distribution.

The oil rating for the Tribute is Semi Synthetic 5w30 but I use Total (Total 40) but will confirm. As for my transmission I use Holts and it's Dexron III compactible. and my transmission works so responsively. Always make sure you don't engage to AWD for a speed above 60km/hr. AWD is used off road. The tribute has an automatic 4wd or 2wd selection. The 4wd kicks in automatically when needed..

You can get the engine oil from a company in Yaba. Can't remember the company but call 08035559999 or 08085373626. The parts are readily available around Ojuelegba just about a turning to your right before you reach the overhead bridge when inbound from Ikorodu road.

I never heard any issue with the jeep and I travel interstates a lot. I always make sure I service it as at when due.

How long have been using your?Mine is 6 months old.Most of its parts are Ford's which explains why Ojuelegba is the main place for parts and not Ladipo.I agree that it is a really good SUV except for this alternator issue.and the annoying thing is the alternator is located somewhere under by the passenger side so you have to bring out the CV joints to get to it.

And mercury has a 2.4kva(1440watts) inverter which I use to power my fridge and freezer at the same time.
