Religion / Learn More About Hajj (the Pilgrimage) by onikunkewu(m): 5:09pm On Dec 08, 2006
The pilgrimage (Hajj) is
1) One of the most important pillars of Islam.
2) A principal means of obtaining proximity to the Almighty.
3) One of the most difficult physical forms of worship.
4) So, vital that one who does not perform Hajj will be barred from Heaven.

The main aim of human creation is to recognize God and attain a stage of acquaintance and love for Him and this depends on the purity and loftiness of the human soul. i.e. The purer the soul becomes the more love will it have for the Almighty.

This stage of love can be attained by abstaining from desires and refraining from worldly pleasures and distractions, and by exerting oneself in the rigorous self-training activities for the sake of God, and, remembering him continuously. For this purpose the Almighty has legislated certain forms of worship (Ibadat).

a) Those involving the expenditure of wealth for His sake e.g. Zakaat and Khums which serve to sever the deep attachments to worldly possessions.
b) Those involving abstinence from desires and pleasures e.g. fasting.
c) Those related to His remembrance and diverting total attention towards Him e.g. Salat/Namaaz.

But Hajj involves all these and more, such as,
i) Leaving one's hometown.
ii) Physical exertion.
iii) Expenditure of wealth.
iv) Renewal of the covenant with God.
v) Circumambulation (Tawaaf).
vi) Supplication (Dua).
vii) Prayers (Salat/Namaaz).
And others like throwing pebbles, running between Safaa and Marwah etc.

Those who wonder at these actions do not realize that when we do not know the hidden meanings and reason of certain commands, we manifest more complete obedience and total submission to the Absolute Master in carrying out those orders. Those actions whose secrets we have been successful in understanding, our soul, besides obeying the Master's commands, is also inclined and pleased in performing them. Thus, it is only for Hajj that the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) is reported to have said, "O Almighty, I have responded to your call for Hajj with complete submission and humility."

Furthermore, the Hajj constitutes the congregation of people from all parts of the world, in the place where revelation was repeatedly sent down to the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.), where the beloved (Khaleel) of God resided, where angles used to descend every now and then. In fact, it is the holy place, which has been the abode of the majority of the Prophets.

Here the leader of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) was born, his holy feet walked; and the Almighty has chosen it for His house so that people should pray towards it. He has sanctified its surroundings and has kept Arafah in the beginning of the Holy Land. He has prohibited hurting animals and uprooting vegetation there in as a mark of respect to the holiness of the land. He has designed it to be like the throne of Kings so that visitors from far off lands, disheveled and dusty, should remain there in humility to the Absolute Monarch realizing the fact that He is above all needs of time and space. While such a congregation leads to new acquaintances, meeting with virtuous personalities and stimulates quicker response to supplications (Dua), it invariably reminds of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) and his efforts at spreading the Word of God. In this way one attains purity of the soul.

The intention for Hajj

1. The intention (Niyyah) must be pure and sincere for the sake of God only, but not for any other worldly motives, such as,
1) Showing off (Riyaa).
2) Avoiding rebukes for not performing Hajj.
3) Fear of poverty for it is known that one who does not perform Hajj is afflicted with poverty.
4) Business prospects, etc.
All these other motives destroy the sincerity (Ikhlaas) of the deeds and deprive one of the promised rewards. It is foolish to undertake all this rigor and expense only to end up in Damnation because the motive was adulterated.

2. One should sincerely repent of past sins and clear all the dues, (Huquq-un-Naas), and cleanse himself of all distractions so that the mind is easily turned towards God. One should write his will and prepare for the journey to the Hereafter as he leaves his house, relatives, friends, and possessions behind.

3. One should remember the majesty of the House and the Absolute Owner, and that one has chosen to leave family, friends, and possessions for the lofty and noble purpose of visiting a House, which the Almighty has designed as a sanctuary for all people. Hence this journey differs from all other worldly journeys. The pilgrim is one of those who have responded willingly to the invitation made by the Almighty's messenger.

4. The pilgrim should free himself of all matters, which tend to worry him so his total attention is towards the Almighty.

5. Any financial loss or physical affliction in this journey should be greeted happily, for, it is a sign of acceptance of Hajj.

6. The Pilgrim should ensure his earnings are acquired through lawful means and he should be liberal in expenditure, not extravagant (Israaf) though. But spending for the needy and deserving is not extravagance as it has been reported that there is no goodness in extravagance and no extravagance in goodness!

7. He should behave courteously towards his fellow travelers, smiling and talking gently with them, avoiding harsh words, abuses or vain talk. He should be humble to the other guests of the Almighty. Magnanimity does not only mean not to hurt others but also to endure when others hurt.

8. He should be disheveled and dusty, avoid cosmetics or any cause of pride and beauty, and if possible, travel on foot, especially from Makkah to Mina, Masher and Arafah, not as a means to avoid extra expenses (in which case, transport is better!) rather for exerting oneself for the sake of God, except if it affects other worship (Ibadat) or supplication (Dua).

HOLY QURAN
It is not their meat nor their blood, that reaches Allah: It is your piety that reaches Him: He has thus made them subject to you, that ye may glorify Allah for His Guidance to you and proclaim the good news to all who do right. (22:37)
Behold! Safa and Marwa are among the Symbols of Allah. So if those who visit the House in the Season or at other times, should compass them round, it is no sin in them. And if any one obeyeth his own impulse to good, be sure that Allah is He Who recogniseth and knoweth. (2:158)

Travel / Store Emergency Numbers As "ice" When Travelling by onikunkewu(m): 1:28pm On Nov 09, 2006
ICE (IN CASE OF EMERGENCY).

Recently, the concept of "ICE" is catching up quickly. It is simple, yet an important method of contact during emergency situations.

As cell phones are carried by majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted at during emergency as " ICE" (meaning In Case of Emergency).

The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when they went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn't know which numbers to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name for this purpose. Following a disaster in London, the East Anglican Ambulance Service has launched a national "In case of Emergency (ICE)" campaign. In an emergency situation, Emergency Services personnel and hospital staff would then be able to quickly contact your next of kin, by simply dialing the number stored as "ICE".

Please forward this. It won't take too many "forwards" before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest. For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc. A great idea that will make a difference.

Please send this message to your friends.
Health / Important Health Care Message by onikunkewu(m): 1:12pm On Nov 09, 2006
IMPORTANT HEALTH CARE MESSAGE
A stock clerk was sent to clean up a storeroom in a Port of Spain factory just recently.
When he got back, he was complaining that the storeroom was really filthy and that he had noticed dried mouse or rat droppings in some areas.
A couple of days later, he started to feel like he was coming down with stomach flu, complained of sore joints and headaches, and began to vomit.

He went to bed and never really got up again. Within two days he was severely ill and weak. His blood sugar count was down to 66, and his face and eyeballs were yellow. He was rushed to the emergency at Mount Hope where he was diagnosed to be suffering from massive organ failure. He died shortly before midnight.
No one would have made the connection between his job and his death, had it not been for a doctor who specifically asked if he had been in a warehouse or exposed to dried rat or mouse droppings at any time. They said there is a virus (much like the Hanta virus) that lives in dried rat and mouse droppings.

Once dried, these droppings are like dust and can easily be breathed in or ingested if a person does not wear protective gear or fails to wash face and hands thoroughly.
An autopsy was performed on the clerk to verify the doctor's suspicions.

This is why it is extremely important to ALWAYS carefully rinse off the tops of canned sodas or foods, and to wipe off pasta packaging, cereal boxes, and so on.
Almost everything you buy in a supermarket was stored in a warehouse at one time or another, and stores themselves often have rodents.

Most of us remember to wash vegetables and fruits but never think of boxes and cans.
The ugly truth is, even the most modern, upper-class, super store has rats and mice. And their warehouse most assuredly does!

Whenever you buy any canned soft drink, please make sure that you wash the top with running water and soap or, if that is not available, drink with a straw.
The investigation of soda cans by the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta discovered that the tops of soda cans can be encrusted with dried rat's urine, which is so toxic it can be lethal. Canned drinks and other foodstuffs are stored in warehouses and containers that are usually infested with Rodents, and then they get transported to retail outlets without being properly cleaned.
You are never sure where the items came from, under what conditions they were stored, do the safe and sensible thing wash with a little chlorine in the water, dry with paper towels.
Please forward this message to the people you care about.

Religion / Ramadan Not Just A Food Fast by onikunkewu(m): 12:23pm On Sep 27, 2006
RAMADAN

Ramadan, the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, is special to millions of Muslims worldwide as a holy period dedicated to fasting, self-purification, and spiritual attainment. Every year the world’s Muslims redesign their life to focus on the goals of Ramadan: A whole-body awareness of God and a humble thankfulness for whatever blessings He has granted.

But Ramadan in non-Muslim countries can be more challenging, as Muslims try to navigate the requirements and recommendations of Ramadan--fasting from sunrise to sunset, fitting in the five daily prayers at their appointed times, attending special evening tarawih prayers at the mosque, and reading the Qur’an each day for an entire month--while juggling the demands of work, school, and family.

Here are five practices I’ve found helpful in simplifying and spiritualizing my Ramadan experience. And if you’re not a Muslim, these tips can be adapted to make your daily life a little more spiritual and uncomplicated.

1. Take the remembrance of God inward.
Do dhikr (reciting short du’as, or supplications) silently while you’re driving, waiting in line somewhere, or doing endless household tasks. Keep a thasbi (the equivalent of a Muslim rosary) in your purse or pocket and use it to count off du’as.

Not Muslim? Spending whatever downtime you have to remember God or peacefully meditate is a great idea for everyone. Thousands of hours go by every year in our work commutes, in chauffeuring our kids around, in keeping the house going. Why not try to use that time to quiet our minds, remind ourselves of a higher being, and appreciate what we’ve been given?

2. Appreciate technology, and then tune it out.
In past Ramadans I always went on a sort of technology crash diet--television, music, inane web surfing, and movies were all self-banned for 30 days. All the extra time was designated for reading Qur’an, praying, and reconnecting with my family. Well, crash diets never work in the long term, and technology does keep the world connected.

So the better thing to do is to use technology wisely: Use your email to stay in contact with friends and family and see how their month is going, get the news from television and the Internet, watch one favorite TV show to wind down, and use your ipod to listen to Muslim books or Qur’anic prayers. And then, when basic needs have been met, turn the technology off and take the extra time to pray and reconnect.

Not Muslim? The same rule can apply. Use the technology to do what you need to do for work and family. But then, instead of spending hours surfing the web or TV channels, fight the urge and tune out. Discover your family, and discover meditation and prayer. You can start slow--cut out an hour of web surfing (or one TV program) every week and build up.

3. Have iftar (the fast-breaking meal) together as a family a couple of times a week.
Having iftar as a family more often should be easier this Ramadan. Muslims follow a lunar calendar, which moves Ramadan back 10 days earlier each year. This year nearly half of the month will progress with iftar time being around 7 p.m.--late enough for the family to be home together. Breaking fast with the family is a great opportunity to appreciate one another’s holy efforts and discuss spiritual topics.

Not Muslim? The family dinner is a concept hammered home by family and social organizations. Even some television stations, like Nickelodeon, show promos advising us to “Make time for the family table.” A weekly or bi-weekly family dinner is a great time to reconnect, to learn about each other, and to discuss a designated list of topics that are of interest to your family.

4. Do new types of sadaqa (acts of goodness and charity), and take comfort that what you already do for family and friends is sadaqa as well.
I used to get discouraged each Ramadan (especially once I was a parent), that I couldn’t properly do those things recommended to Muslims during Ramadan: Go for tarawih prayers in the evening, or read the entire Qur’an. But my mom and mother-in-law gave me sound insight: Everything you do for the comfort of your family is sadaqa and a way of worshipping God.

That being said, Ramadan is still a great time to try new acts of charity and goodness: Put aside a can of food a day and donate it all when the month is up; Cook a few dishes and take them to your mosque for those come there to have iftar; Volunteer at your child’s school for the month and offer to do a Ramadan presentation to explain why your child is fasting.

Not Muslim? Recognizing the things you do for family and friends as acts of goodness that are acknowledged by God is a great step toward achieving inner spirituality. But take a step out of your comfort zone to tackle one small charitable project each month, whether it’s donating a little money each day to your favorite charity or taking charge of your office’s annual volunteer project.

5. Get to the mosque and reconnect with your community.
For many Muslim Americans, about the only time they can find to go to the mosque is for Friday prayers, or on Sunday when scores of kids take part in Muslim Sunday school. During Ramadan, why not make the mosque an integral part of worship? Go there for as many tarawih prayers as you can, especially the end ones when the Qur’an is being completed. Pick one day a week and go to your mosque for iftar. It’s amazing how good we feel to see others fasting and striving as much as we are, and it can renew our strength to face the next week of fasting with vigor and joy.

Not Muslim? If you are religious, try visiting your church, synagogue, or temple outside of worship services. You may meet different people and partake in different experiences that can replenish your spiritual well. If you don’t favor any particular house of worship, designate some spot--a park or your backyard at sunset--where you feel some calm and visit it with family or friends, free of mental distractions, and with a focus on each other.

MAASSALAM.

I strongly believe that no man and woman born of different parents lives together without having passion for each other, not to talk of someone you so much loved and intended to marry.Definitely cohabitation or what is called pre-marital sex has to come in,hence,IT IS WRONG TO LIVE TOGETHER BEFOR MARRIAGE. JUST PRAY FOR THE BEST WOMAN.

From those around, I hear a cry
A mouth go soft, a hopeless sigh

I hear their footsteps… leaving slow
And then I know, my soul must Fly!

A chilly wind, begins to blow
Within my Soul, from Head to Toe

And then it’s Last Breath, escapes my lips
It’s time to leave. And I must go…

So it’s true (But it’s too late)
They said: “Each Soul, has its given Date”

When it must leave its body’s core
And meet it’s Eternal Fate

Oh mark the words that I do say,
Who knows? Tomorrow could be your day.

At last, it comes to Heaven or Hell
Decide which now… Do NOT delay!

Come on my brothers and sisters let’s quicly
Decide which now… Do NOT delay!

Oh God! Oh God! I cannot see!
My eyes are Blind! Am I still Me?!

Or has my soul been led astray,
And forced to pay a Priceless fee?!

At last to Dust… we all return
Some shall rejoice, while others burn

If only I knew… that before
The line grew short, and came my Turn!

And now, as beneath the sod
They lay me ( With my record flawed )

They cry, not knowing, I cry worse ,
For they go home, and now, I face my God!

Oh mark the words that I do say,
Who knows? Tomorrow could be your day.

At last, it comes to Heaven or Hell
Decide which now… Do NOT delay!

Religion / Know More About Fasting by onikunkewu(m): 11:57am On Sep 25, 2006
ASSALAMU ALAIKUM WARAMATULLAHI WABARAKATUHU.

                                    FASTING
As we all know fasting is one of the 5 pillars of Islam without which
the Muslim or Muslima cannot be regarded as a full believer.  Allah says:
~You who believe, fasting has been prescribed for you,, ~ (2: 183)
With this kind of instruction, we know that fasting is compulsory for Muslims.
Sawm means to abstain and same  is the person who abstain from his/her
food, drink, etc.  In Sura Al-Baqara, Allah says
~And eat and drink until the white thread of dawn appears to you
distinct from its black thread.  Then complete your fast till the night
appears.~ (2: 188)

Significance of month of Ramadhan:
1.  ~The month of Ramadhan in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance
for mankind and clear proofs of the guidance and criterion of right and
wrong.~
It was in the month of Ramadhan that all the revealed books of Allah
were sent for the guidance of mankind.  The sahaif(treatises) of Prophet
Ibrahim (as) were sent to him during the first or third of this month.
Prophet Daud~s Zabur (psalms) were sent to him during the 12th or 18th
of this month.  Prophet Musa(as) got his Torah on 6th of Ramadhan and
Prophet Isa(as) was given Injil(Gospels)on 12th and 13th Ramadhan.  In
this way the month of Ramadhan is a month of Guidance for the entire
mankind.

2.  Reference has also been maid in Sura Al-Qadr : ~ We have indeed
revealed this message in the night of Power and what will explain to
thee what the night of power is?  The night of power is better than a
thousand months.~

3. The month of Ramadhan is the month of self-discipline for Muslims.
Fasting helps bring our passions under control and thus gives a shine to
soul and gives special taste in our prayers and devotions and removes
false sense of prestige in our minds.  Fasting keeps our faith in Al
Mighty Allah a living force.  Wahat may be contrary to feelings or views
of many non-Muslims, fasting is not intended to inflict punishment or
saddle upon the saim unbearable burden.  Fasting cleanse our spiritual
and moral being, and is indeed dispensable for  these moral and
spiritual training.

4. We eat, drink and develop many habits we have easily become slaves
of.  Allah has made fasting obligatory to free us from those slavish
habits.  When we fast, our soul which is essentially divine gains its
freedom by subjugation of the carnal desires.  By voluntarily abstaining
from food, suppression of sexual desires and keeping away from any form
of moral degradation, the soul attains victory over the flesh and this
begins to understand his duties to Allah and his duties towards fellow
beings.  Fasting is a form of social democracy as well.  The king and
the servant, rich and poor alike are the same as all are commanded by
Allah to fast.  In this way the rich must also experience the pain and
suffering the poor experience.

5. Whereas other forms of Ibadah are peculiar to Muslims, fasting is
not.  It is ordained by Allah to all mankind at different periods of
time to our day.

6.  During Ramadhan, our acts and rewards for them are multiplied about
seventy times.  This was narrated by Salman that the messenger of
Allah(saw) said that if someone fulfills any fardhu activity during
Ramadhan, it is as if he fulfilled seventy obligatory acts during the
time other than Ramadhan.  This is the month of forbearance and the
reward for it is paradise.

7.  According to another hadith by Qudsi, Allah says all our actions are
for ourselves, except fasting. ~ It is for Me and I shall give reward
for it~.

8. Another distinguishing feature of Islamic fasting is that it does not
train a person for complete renunciation but of his pleasures but for
perfect and cheerful obedience as to the Lord.  All those things which
man is commanded to abstain during fast, such as eating, drinking, and
sexual intercourse become permissible for him at the end of the fast.
Islam does not look down upon the appetite of flesh as taboo and thus
fit to be rooted out.

9.  Fasting as institution for moral elevation can be judged from the
fact that Allah does not impose check only upon eating, drinking and the
like, but also exhorts us to refrain from other foul acts like
backbiting, foul speech, telling lies.  Abu Huraira reported that the
Prophet (saw)had said, ~If one does not abandon falsehood and other
actions like it Allah Has no need that one should abandon one~s food and
drink~.

Conditions for fasting
1.  Making niyya(intention)
2. Attahara(cleanliness) -the woman must not be under menstruation and
men must have taken his ghusul(bath) if he had ejaculation.
3.  Akal(mental stability)
4.  Baligh(Adulthood)
5.  Muslim
6.  Capability - fasting is not obligatory for those incapacitated over
old age, chronic diseases,etc.

Jokes Etc / Why Is It So Hard To Get A Job In Nigeria. by onikunkewu(m): 10:57am On Sep 25, 2006
Beautiful day to you.
Ever wondered why its so hard to find a job in Nigeria?
One gentleman had just been retrenched from a high flying job, and now he set out hoping to bounce back into the job market. He started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN) for 6a.m. While his coffee pot (MADE IN CHINA) was perking, he shaved with his electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG).
He put on a dress shirt (MADE IN ENGLAND, IMPORTED FROM DUBAI), designer jeans (MADE IN SOUTH AFRICA) and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA). After cooking his breakfast on his new electric cooker (MADE IN INDIA) he sat down with his calculator (MADE IN MEXICO) to see how much he could spend today.
After setting his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN) to the radio (MADE IN JAPAN) according to BBC (BROADCASTING FROM LONDON) time, he got in his car (MADE IN GERMANY AND REFURBISHED IN BELGIUM) and continued his search for a good paying NIGERIAN JOB.
At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day, Chukwu decided to relax for a while. He sat on his leather couch (MADE IN CANADA) reading a best-seller novel (PUBLISHED IN USA). After a while he wanted to refresh himself. He put on his sandals (MADE IN BRAZIL) poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE) and turned on his TV (MADE IN INDONESIA), to CNN (TRANSMITTED FROM AMERICA) and then wondered why he can't find a good paying job in, NIGERIA. , !
Food for thought.Keep this circulating. , !
Regards.
