Jobs/VacanciesRe: Seeking Lecturing Job? by onlyme07(m): 6:00pm On Dec 17, 2017
To be frank with you, the education background you refuse to have might hunt you later if you eventually secure a lecturing job in a govt owned institution. Besides,I asked how you manage to combine two Masters together at the same time in Nigeria. OAU does now allow such, kindly explain? best of luck.

@nigeriancritic1,your profile is awesome. I thought it's impossible to have 2 Masters at a time in Nigeria, especially OAU forbids. Can you pls shed more light on it.? I already have UI in view,I'll like to apply for another Msc in OAU before the form closes.

EducationLecturing Positions. by onlyme07(op): 12:41pm On Dec 17, 2017
This thread will be dedicated for those interested in lecturing. I will scout for available positions and you can post if you have any.

A young graduate aspiring to be a lecturer should endeavour to know the following:

Education Background.
If you have a single major (B.Sc),it will be difficult to secure a lecturing job due to Teachers Registration Council law that mandates all teachers to posses education background that is,you either have Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) or Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE). Those with double major (B.Ed) are convered except those with 3rd class and Pass.

With this, you can become a Graduate Assistant Lecturer in any University and Assistant Lecturer in a poly and College of Education

Masters (M.Sc)
This qualification is needed in the University,Polytechnic and College of Education. Pls,make sure it is Academic Masters that can proceed to Phd. Professional Masters is not allowed in lecturing job. You must meet 60% aggregate to.proceed to Phd,otherwise you can only proceed to Mphil Phd which also depends.on your aggregate.

For those with Professional Masters, you can go through Mphil.Phd to.covert your Masters to Academic Masters before proceeding to Phd. Mphil is like pre-degree or diploma at Masters level.

With this, you can become Lecturer 1 & 2 in any of the education sector and 15yrs experience in a College of Education, you can become a Chief Lecturer which is the bar in that setting. You will be an Assistant Lecturer in a University and Lecturer 2 in a Polytechnic.

PHD
This is the climax of education in any setting. With this, you can reach the top with your years of experience. It takes 3 or more years to.bag Phd depending on the institution.

Conferences & Papers.
This is another important thing in lecturing. Your promotion depends on conferences attended( local and international),books, and journals written. You co-author as well. It is advisable,if you have passion for lecturing, you start from the day you start your Postgraduate Course because the price is either removed or subsidized for posgraduate students.

Professorship
It is an award given to scholars whose work stand the test of time and soley depends on journals, books, conferences attended and experience is what makes one become a Professor.

Jobs
You can easily secure jobs in lecturing if you have passion and put your ears on ground because alot of available openings are rarely advertised. A good example is the just approved 6 Universities, you may not swe their advertisement but if you go there in person, your dream job can be gotten same day. All these Universities have certain days of the week they conduct interviews.

I just came in here to chip in a very useful info for you guys. Pls,make judicious use of service year to equip yourself with certificate. I will urge you to apply for professional diploma in education. I don't need to tell you that the job market is saturated with enough graduates with the same certificate like yours, the only edge is to have another certificate. I said PDE categorically because

1. It will avail you of two certificates, that is,the PDE cert

2. You become a member of the Teachers Registration Council.(TRCN)

3. You will even have the oppurtunity to attend conferences and write papers. ( You just apply as pgd student which is usually free or subsidized )

4. For those with 3rd class,or institution where 2.2 is forbidden, you can use if for your masters

5. You have already diversified meaning, you can do Masters in Education and Masters in your related field.

6. Teaching is the easiest job you can get after nysc and do other things.

I served in a college of education,it gave me the oppurtunity to lecture and hope sometime soon I'll end up in the lecture room.

You can as well go for ICAN,NIM etc. All those 3months courses are useful though if you have the money but not too relevant.

No competent HR would recruit based on phone numbers because of some loyalty nonsense, the example you are giving about Coca cola freezer and Pepsi product has nothing to do with recruitment, recruitment is about COMPETENCE of the candidates and not loyalty, competence gets the job done and not loyalty, this is a recruitment and not a customer loyalty appreciation program. With your logic banks would only be picking candidates who have their bank accounts for final selection then.

In saner countries, job seekers sue and win companies for screening them out because of gender and here in Nigeria someone is justifying the crude perception of screening out of candidates for a flimsy point as phone numbers. Go and read more about HR please. In your mind you feel because you used a Glo number on your CV you are better placed, I laugh at your crude way of reasoning.
I have never used glo line before so,don't judge neither did I say, phone number will be used. I was just trying to point to the fact that nepotism will always suffice in our society.

Your thinking is funny, so a company would recruit based on phone numbers because its phone numbers that determine if someone is competent for a job or not right? Criteria to shortlist based on phone numbers? Holy lord, graduates in this country are so "intelligent" I must say.
It is not about phone number,it's about loyalty and smartness. Its like winning coca cola freezer and stock with pepsi. You think coca cola will be happy to give another freezer to the dealer.? Use our brand,we would give you what you want. Bro,it is no longer about intelligence as I said,be smart. Don't make it look as if they will use phone numbers, just an idea of some HRs.

Tell yourself the truth,if you happen to own the coy and you have over 1000applicants for 160slots. Won't that be a criteria to shortlist? HRs need smart applicants and not brilliant folks.

The reason why it is not carrying an official email address for the application is because its a fucking contract job.

It a shity company to work with. Resigned some months back. They want to recruit for experience center agents, meanwhile they have hundreds of CCRs that are hv applied countless times for this same position without success.
Its a contract job, ur offer letter won’t carry Globacom letter headed paper, and you will be asked to sign a bond. Work with them at your own peril. Wont even advise my enemy to.
I understand your phlight,I wish you can visit any of the npower verification centres to see how folks are struggling for 30k monthly stipend. It is not about how much, rather gather experience and avoid being redundant. Unemployment is a time bomb in Nigeria, trust me.

One of the reason Africa is stagnant is because we're short of qualified people in our work force. Our best brains are leaving Africa to western nations at an alarming rate, causing what's called brain drain in Africa. Through scholarship schemes such as this, western nations systematically lure Africans with potential out of Africa and in the process deplete us of the professionals we need to develop.

Over many years, Britain has been responsible for the emigration of highly skilled or well-educated Africans into Europe and America. When its all cleaned and dusted, the net benefit of this human capital flight is that the west find highly qualified cheap labour to develop their nations, whereas Africa bears the net loss.

I' am not against your application, I' am not against your success, I wish you well, but I simply wanted to inform you what this's all about. Its a long term investment by Britain.

Its time to abolish the commonwealth. Details at www.africason.com/2016/08/its-time-to-abolish-commonwealth-of.html
What is the essence of having a good brain and not making use of it to the benefit of others.? Your leaders don't appreciate them so,let those who appreciate drain the brain. #

bro if this is scrapped our youths won't be found wondering on the bad roads dis is so not fair every service Yr lots of corpers are lost to either road accidents or poor health conditions. Bro after graduation allow some one get a job or go do other degrees wot dead nation are they serving? 19800 now lives lost?
I feel you bro. The highest cause of death in Nigeria is road accident, it happens every 5mins in our country. I wish you can travel down south, east, west and up north to see the extent of bad roads. Kogi to Abuja is worrisome, its a NO NO for many travellers.

Its a pity so many corp members have been involved in road accidents lately but it won't stop even if the scheme is scrapped, hence my clamour for good roads and alternative ways (air, water & rail) to reduce these crashes.

I'm a victim of road accident, this is my 11th year on wheelchair (SCI) so,I know where it hurts.

Our messiah will surely come to our rescue someday.

Daninya11:
I would love to share my experience.

I actually participated in the commonwealth interview in which I fared well but I eventually got the regret mail.

For you to be accredited, you must have the following

1.Your Original degree (M. Sc) applicants and both Original degree and M. Sc degree (PhD) applicants.
2.Academic transcript
3.Medical certificate of fitness from a federal teaching hospital or state hospital
4.Original O'level result be it NECO Or Waec
5.EAS print outs ( 4 copies)
6.N.Y.S.C discharge certificate
7.State of Origin Certificate
8.Admission letter from any U. K University.

Out of these 8, if you can't present 4 or 5,you won't be accredited which implies that you won't be interviewed.

Last year interview was tedious and unorganized. Present yourself at the accreditation Centre very early and write your name before you will be given a tag with a number which will determine when you will be interviewed.

The interview will take play at Nanets Suites. Please endeavor to write your name as that will determine when you will face a panel of 3 professors.
You will be asked questions as follows but it doesn't follow any pattern.
1.describe yourself or can we meet you?.
2.Where do you hail from?
3.What's your course of study and what did you graduate with
4.What's your research topic and how will it develop Nigeria

You should be up to date with political, socio-economic and religious happening in Nigeria
You should be able to say one or two things about Commonwealth ie date of creation member countries etc.
You should know names of political figure head in Nigeria ie full names of Mr President, V.P ,governors etc
You should know states and capital etc.

I actually fared well in the interview last year but I had some shortcomings
1.I didn't go with my academic transcript
2.I didn't have an offer of admission from any U. K University
3.I didn't go with evidence of publication and awards.
Mehn, all the supervisors gave me Zero in those columns.

To be honest with you guys, If you have all these intact, your chances is high as you would have to fight off other candidates from your state. I reiterate that If you have a First class you are sports on. I am saying these based on personal experience. Three of the guys I became friends with who were first class graduates got the scholarship.

I noticed some anomalies in the whole process. There was corruption on a grand scale as supervisors were seen collecting telephone numbers of aspirants. But I don't take excuses for my failures. Yeah I was denied a first class in my university days but I won't let that deter me from achieving my goals and aspirations in life.

I couldn't apply this year because I am yet to get a copy of my transcripts and I am yet to be offered an admission into a U. K University. I am yet to publish my work in a journal. Hopefully I will apply next year when I have these in place. There are no mistakes in life but lessons.
My friends got the commonwealth based on merit and the GRACE OF GOD.

I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST IN THIS YEAR'S COMMONWEALTH SCHOLARSHIP INTERVIEW.
I PRAY THAT THE MERCY, GRACE, LOVE AND MERCY OF GOD WILL SEE YOU THROUGH.
Thanks for this piece bro. The form for this year is out and hope you can be my guide in the process. #follow
