It should be fairly easy to stop such cheating. We already know all the ethnic groups in Nigeria and no artificial "new" ones will be allowed to form. In fact, everyone would laugh if Ekiti people suddenly declared they were no longer Yoruba! grin
As Obiagu suggested, we could also write all the ethnic groups into the constitution and seal it.
Why can't we do that today?
Well, the answer is because of the very same problems that will manifest then -people denying their ethnic group just to hoodwink the rest of us!

We have that already in Nigeria, which is why Ohanaeze pressed hard for ethnicity to be included in the census forms, an idea which was rejected by Obasanjo.

So that can only happen AFTER Nigeria disintegrates. I don't see it happening under one Nigeria. The system is a cesspit.

Bianca, Ojukwu’s wife, pays tribute to Jonathan

London—Bianca, the wife of Chief Emeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has described President Goodluck Jonathan as a great leader.

Bianca made the remarks when she received a goodwill message on behalf of her husband from Jonathan’s special envoy and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr Aliyu Idi Hong, on Sunday in a London hospital where he is receiving treatment.

Bianca, who expressed gratitude for the message, said: “It is a sign of a great leader with a great deal of empathy not just for a single individual but for the people he seeks to lead.

“It is very rare indeed. I am privileged to receive on behalf of his family and his party, APGA, from the president and the people of Nigeria such a goodwill message.

“We remain immensely grateful, God Bless you all,’’ the Europe correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quotes Bianca as saying.

She recalled that before Ojukwu was flown abroad, the president had visited him in his residence to pay respect and wished him quick recovery.

Similarly, she added, in August last year, Jonathan also sent an emissary to convey his best wishes and hopes for a quick recovery when Ojukwu was undergoing medical tests in the U.S.

Bianca also expressed gratitude to Mr Dozie Nwanna, Nigeria’s Acting High Commissioner to the U.K for his support.

Earlier, Hong said Ojukwu was one of the very eminent persons who Nigerians were proud of, adding that his state of health was very paramount to Jonathan, hence the need for the visit.

“Mr President feels very concerned and he wanted to know the actual state of his health and how he is doing and to also show empathy and concern about his health, so for that reason, he specifically asked me to come.

“If only you know how I was conscripted very urgently for this purpose, you will know the importance which Mr president attaches to his health,” the minister said.

“I have seen him, let me speak as a doctor now, he is under proper care and doing well.
“I think by every standard, one will say he is in the best of hands, I wish him quick recovery,” Hong said.

There is no way on earth the Igbo will even join the Hausa against the Yoruba. To prove what point? As long as the Yoruba keep the battle within Ore Igbos wont bart and eyelid whattey do with the Hausa and as long as Hausa stays far away from teh East the Igbo wont care unless we are sure we have something to gain like driving theor moronic selves deep into Chad and Niger.
Someone has already mentioned the fact that ND or Ijaw agitations will never be taken seriously until Igbos are involved. I leave it at that. Ijaws need to use their heads.

As for joining with the Hausa against Yoruba, it depends on what the Yorubas do. undecided
If they want to replay their treachery against the East, anything is possible. That is why it is in Nigeria's collective interest that there is a negotiated peace in that country, not a forced peace or one obtained through backstabbing and treachery.
Only foreigners gain in a waring Nigeria.

But out of curiousity why is what should be a private letter from the Nigerian President to another sick Nigerian for public consumption?

Honestly this is sickening and I find it despicable that anyone who claims to care about Ojukwu celebrates the use of Ojukwu's trying times to score cheap political points. You can only feel sorry for his family.
Though I would agree that there is some politics going on, I totally disagree with other aspects of your point. undecided

Jonathan has followed Ojukwu's health situation closely from the last time he visited Ojukwu in his Enugu residence.
Incidentally the great lion of Biafra had stroke a few days later.

Even while frantic efforts were being made to transport him overseas, Jonathan kept in constant touch, calling his family and following up. Therefore this letter did not fall out of the skies. The man is only continuing with what he started.

I won't even be surprised if Jonathan and the FG is directly involved in taking care of Ojukwu's medical expenses either.

There is only one Ojukwu in Nigeria.
Even his worst foes in Nigeria respect him and see him as one of the last titans in Nigeria.

President writes Ojukwu

By Our Correspondent
Monday, 3 Jan 2011

President Goodluck Jonathan has wished the ailing Ikemba Nnewi Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu, Ojukwu a quick recovery.

Ojukwu is currently recuperating in a London hospital where he was flown to on December 24, 2010, for further treatment for stroke.

In a personal letter dated December 31, 2010, Jonathan prayed for Ojukwu’s full recuperation from the ailment.

A copy of the letter, sent to Ojukwu through the Nigerian High Commission in London, was made available to State House correspondents in Abuja on Saturday.

“I write, on behalf of my family, the government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to convey to you our earnest wishes for your very quick recovery from your indisposition.

“Ever since you took ill and had to be flown abroad for medical attention, I have followed your progress with keen interest.

“It is, therefore, a source of great relief for me to learn of the fact that you are getting better and very well on the way to recovery,’’ the President wrote in the letter.

Jonathan prayed God to grant Ojukwu “many more years of robust health, enduring strength and uncommon wisdom.

Tolls are not only for bridges. We have the Sam Houston tollway in Houston, for example.

No difference in raising taxes and just directly raising money through tolls.

120 is not even a buck. GSay two trips a day, 25 trips a month, that is 50*120 = 6000 naira, $40 only. eTag knocks off 10%, dropping to $36. Factor in gas savings, the value of his time (shorter commute >> longer commute), etc, and the net cost might be more like $15 or $20.

And if he is too cheap to pay for this, then he has the option of taking public transportation, or taking a longer route. Or selling his property and moving back east, if he so desires  grin
Believe me YOUR PEOPLE will complain about this toll before mine. We dey survive everywhere.
My point is that Nigerians copy things without even thinking. Mental laziness is the problem.

Tolls are serious stuff in a developing country like Nigeria.
If you collect taxes, you have no moral justification to toll an ordinary road.

One way or another, citizens will pay for roads. If the government builds a road and provides it for "free", you'll pay for it through taxes, interest payments on the money the government borrows to finance the loan (roughly 22% is the rate in Nigeria, iirc), loss of other services, etc.
LCC was financed through banks in South Africa and Australia, where interest rates are much, much cheaper. I'd much rather finance capital-intensive projects with cheap credit rather than expensive credit.

Long story short, nothing in the world comes for free. You'll pay for it one way or another.
There is obviously a discount for volume usage. Did any of you guys actually look at the rates before complaining about the prices? 10 times a day is at least 250 times a month. You get a 20% discount on mnotorcycles and 50% for most other classes of vehicles:

http://lcc.com.ng/News/NewsContent.aspx?newsid=27
My math was off a little so I fixed it. But you get the idea.

Yes, I read in the newspaper about the proposed tolls. Cars are N120 a pass.
My relative owns a house at Lekki and he is complaining bitterly.

Charge the damn thing on taxes, but leave folks alone to go about their business.

Tolls are for specific things like bridges. I know they have started adding other things like ordinary roads, but must we copy every idea without thinking. undecided undecided

Frustrating, this is going to scare away investors from other infrastructure projects . Terrible news for a capital-starved country like Nigeria. If the LCC fails in Lagos (the most business-friendly region in Nigeria), then why would anyone want to fund roads elsewhere?  sad

Also, the tolls iirc are not that high. Why do people want to have good things (nice roads) w/o paying for them?

Finally, what penalties (if any) will the Lagos State gov't have to pay for violating their agreement with the LCC?
Well, does it occur to you that the citizen already pay taxes and have daily expenses to take care off?
Why should any sane person toll an ordinary road?
Out here in the states, most tolled roads I know have bridges.
Why are you tolling an ordinary road?

I'm even saying these because I don't want any Igbo or Eastern state to copy that nonsense. Government build roads and maintain them. That is why people pay taxes.
How can any sane person pay N120 each passing on a road he rely on daily to earn a living? Supposing he has to pass that gate 10 times a day; it is conscionable to charge him N1200 on that day?

You are highly misguided
The most important thing in politics is 'organization'; the more organized you are, the better your chances and the two most organised groups in Nigerian politics are the core North, and the SW.

SS and SE have never mattered in the grand scheme of things. Very easy to get the SS onbaord, promise them the senate presidents. SS, can never and will never become president in Nigeria. In the present arrangement,it is luck, and I repeat, LUCK, more than political brilliance, that made a SS the president. The SW vote, a very crucial one is not GIVEN for GEJ. present a Yoruba as vice, see the SW go gaga for a Buhari/Yoruba ticket. Give the SS the senate president and see how they all go for ACN. Like Abiola said, who needs the Igbos, the truth is that ACN does not need them, we only need to carry the SS along in the south while Buhari works his magic in the North. in 1993, Abiola lost in the whole of Alaigbo; yet, won the total election by 'moonslide'

As for the north, that is why we have Buhari. And, in your twisted mind, do you actually think that the north, mid west included, would go for GEJ over Buhari? Like someone said somewhere else, with Buhari on the ticket, the North would be won over on BBC Hausa; lets see how GEJ or a SE would fare on BBC Hausa.

I personally do think that a Yoruba should not be on any ticket next year, but eh, why should Tinubu care about some stupit zoning, he is in it for his people, not for Alaigbo

Until Alaigbo puts her house in order, political relevancy would continue to elude her. Gone are the days of Zik, Okadigbo and Ekwueme, right now there is no Igbo man brilliant enough to lead the Igbo nation.
That my friend is the reality, you have to live with it.
Every permutation stops after PDP primaries. If GEJ wins (and I believe he will), NO combination can defeat him in the general elections. cool
If he loses, then a lot of permutations come into play. I really don't think that Buhari will pick a Yoruba for VP because he would lose.
Nigerians have that at the back of their minds that a Yoruba was president from 1999 - 2007. You can believe whatever you want. In fact the thought of a Yoruba on the presidential ticket of any serious national party will piss a lot of folks OUTSIDE OF SW off, especially if GEJ loses the primaries. If Atiku is the PDP flag bearer, he will pick a SE candidate if he is serious and he will win. He has the likes of Soludo, Nnamani, Okonjo-Iweala to pick as future president in waiting. I don't see any SW politician with better pedigree than those folks.

For the Igbo, it is all about 2015. And we start next year.
