Please let us not condemn our people for the choice of living in such troublesome areas afterall, we all want a better standard of living and if they find such there, they should by all means satisfy their urges afterall many of us are abroad for greener pastures and yet, we still face dangers here. This is not to say that we would leave them to their own fates as, they're still our people.

If we don't care about them, who would do so? Is it their tormentors or enemies? Guys, logical and not overtly emotional and negative contributions are needed here. I'm of the view that Ohanaeze should draw-out a 5-7year plan to start the resettlement of our people back to the East. This should have been carried out during last decade (2001 -2010). Its just that Ohanaeze isn't quite organized and is bereft of ideas.
Seconded.

Much as it pains me that some of our people are not reasonable enough to understand that you cannot live anyhow in any part of Nigeria, I still have to sympathize with them.

There is no way in hell I would live in northern Nigeria without taking measures that  deters the barbers up there. Even my fathers' set in their days in Kano did it, which helped save them in the tick of 1966 genocide.

I think the strategy we should adopt is simple.

Are there no flights from Abuja to anywhere near Anambra? In 2006 I went to PH for vacation, went from Houston -> Europe -> PH. Or am I imagining things? I'm pretty sure we didn't touch down in Lagos, flew directly from Europe to PH.

Unless the airport in PH is no longer functional, or Anambra is inaccessible from PH, then it shouldn't be as bad as you say. I wouldn't know the situation on the ground there now though.
PH was not functioning for sometime. Again we are talking about immediate access. From Onitsha, I would get to Enugu in one hour, but PH would take over two hours.
From Onitsha, Asaba is the fastest if international.

So what are u suggesting. That's an International airport in Enugu. If Onitsha needs an International airport then they willl have to build one of international standard and have it approved by government if they will agree.
I'm suggesting that we consummate Enugu International Airport first. Enugu is only one hour away from Onitsha. I would get to Enugu before someone travelling from certain parts of Lagos reaches the MMA on one of those crazy Lagos traffic jam days.
If Asaba upgrades to international airport, better still.

That is not how things work for McK. They chase money too. If there is money to be made in Anambra, then they'll open an office there, international airport or not.

They have offices in even the Minnesotas of the world (though I do concede that Minny has world-class airports, something Anambra (and Nigeria in general) lacks).
And how would they enter and leave Anambra state? Let me guess.
They land in Lagos or Abuja and then take a 7 hour drive to Anambra state along the terrible armed robber infested Nigerian roads, right?
Sorry, no deal.

What's your point really? What's all this rubbish got to do with tens of major industries employing thousands of people and paying taxes?

And please, stop making silly excuses, there is nothing on  their website because there is nothing to put on the website. You yourself can not name them.

Abeg stop jare,
lol. Whatever boils your water for tea!  undecided

Personally I'm not really into this argument to convince your type, just to put things in proper perspective.

Igboland is almost synonymous with industry. Every Nigerian knows that. That is probably why the governors never thought of creating websites to blow their trumpets.
The owners of the factors/industries are busy hustling.  undecided
A single pharmaceutical company like Juhel is one of the largest pharmaceutical industries in the WORLD. Juhel employs thousands of people. But your type can never know that.

Are we measuring overall dollar value of the factories, or  just quantity? I'm sure Anambra has more  quantity, but I highly doubt that the overall value of the business they do exceeds that of Lagos.

Otherwise I'm a bit surprised  that McKinsey for example decided to open their office in Lagos rather than Anambra tongue
International companies locate in areas closest to international airports. Anambra does not have that.
Let's keep things in proper perspective. Now, when Enugu international airport becomes fully operational, we can come back after some years to re-evaluate.

Ode!! lmao. I guess you're too chicken to post your list,

We re talking about almost 100 major industries like Honda, 2 West African Portland Cement in ewekoro and shagamu, 4 pharmaceuticals, 4 breweries, 2 distilleries, sugar factories, Metal packaging, Tin, Crown cap , Sodium silicate, Aluminium sulphate, sulfuric acid , Louver frames, Aluminum roofing, Accessories, Bolt, Nuts and Wagner, paint factories,Transformer, Electrical Cables, Coils etc.,  iron and steel,

And this clown is talking about some less than six  month  old joint. I really can nit knock the motor factory because it's a good thing, but that's really an exception and it pales in comparison when talking about the tax base and employment capabilities of almost 100 major industries,
But you forget that the auto industries in the south east is dependent on the smaller auto spare parts factories scattered from Nnewi to Enugu. The Innoson auto plant will source 60% -70% of their materials from local industries existing synergistically with the plant.

Like I said before, the state governments don't have good websites except Imo state, but Imo does not have the type of industries we are talking about; only Anambra, Enugu and Abia have them, and they don't have the list online.

So, here you go. One down for you.  undecided

FYI, this is not about not acknowledging anything ibo, it's about needlessly putting other people down just to make yourself feel good while you pounding your  shallow chest.
You guys also forget Enugu with the Emene industries. You also forget the Nigerian breweries at Ama in Enugu ( a $400 million industry), once acknowledged as the single biggest brewery in Nigeria.

IMO, between Enugu, Anambra and Abia, there are more industries than Lagos.

Personally I think the topic is tantamount to jumping the gun. We are far from the promised land.

For the record though, i think that Igboland has more industries than Lagos.
The states may not be blowing their trumpets by listing the industries online (don't let Peter Obi hear it though 'cos he is good at publishing his achievements!). The industries are there and they are not just ordinary industries. I would give a simple example. No laff o!  grin

84 PDP senators fail to get return tickets

About 84 senators of the Peoples Democratic Party may have lost their bid to return to the red chambers on the party’s ticket.

Final standings from the outcome of the primaries held across the country showed that a repeat of what happened in 2007, where most of the lawmakers did not return, is likely to happen again. From Adamawa State, Senators Jibril Aminu, Grace Bent and Mohammed Manna were not returned by the party.

The same situation is the case for neighbouring Taraba State where Senators Anthony Manzo and Dahiru Gassol lost out. The third senator, Joel Nkenya, had earlier defected to the Action Congress of Nigeria in the state to run for the governorship.

None of the senators in Anambra, Kwara and Bauchi states got a ticket to return to the Senate. In Kaduna State, only Senator Ahmed Makarfi made it back, as Caleb Zaghi and Jibril Mohammed were replaced by former Minister of Finance, Nenadi Usman, and ex-Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund, Yusuf Mairago.

In Rivers, only Wilson Ake scaled through but George Sekibo and Lee Maeba failed to win the primaries. Senators Chris Anyanwu and Sylvester Anyanwu from Imo State lost out before the primaries, as they were on their way to other parties. Osita Izunaso, who was tipped to win his ticket, however, failed to do so.

In Nasarawa State, Abubakar Sodangi lost to a former governor of the state, Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu, while the two others, Naomi Akwashiki and Suleiman Adokwe, were returned. The PDP also did not return Eme Ufot-Ekaete and Bob Effiong in Akwa Ibom State, just as Simeon Oduoye also did not make it in Osun State.

In Benue where President of the Senate, David Mark, emerged successfully, his colleagues, Joseph Akaagerger and George Akume, failed to secure the PDP’s tickets. In Cross River, only the Deputy Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, succeeded in the primaries while Bassey Ewa-Henshaw and Gregory Ngaji did not make it.

Senator Hosea Ehinlawo from Ondo State was not fortunate this time while the confusion in the Ogun State chapter raised doubts about the chances of Iyabo Obasanjo and Lekan Mustapha. In Kogi State, Senator Nicholas Ugbane has indicated his interest to become the next governor of the state and so did not seek the senatorial ticket, but Otaru Ohize did not make from Kogi Central, while Smart Adeyemi is still battling to be cleared by the PDP National Secretariat.

Edo State PDP had lost Edobor Uzamere to the Action Congress of Nigeria in the state. He was replaced by Daisy Danjuma. Katsina had also lost Garba Lado to the Congress for Progressive Change while Abubakar Ayuba and Umar Argungu failed to get tickets in Kebbi State.

Although Gbemi Saraki is seeking the governorship seat in Kwara State on a new platform, the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria, the other two senators from the state, Ahmed Mohammed and Sule Ajibola, could not make it back. In Bayelsa, Senator Nimi-Barigha Amange was not returned by the party while the PDP also replaced Sidi Ali as its candidate for the FCT.

In Gombe State, none of the old senators will return as their tickets were taken by others. Indications from Enugu suggest that the political stalemate in the state would deny all three PDP senators their tickets to return to the Senate on the party’s platform.

Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, as well as Chimaroke Nnamani and Ayogu Eze are representing the state in the Senate and are unlikely to get the tickets. It was gathered that most of the senators who lost their tickets in the PDP were considering moving to other parties to contest the April elections.

PoliticsRe: What If The North Takes Half Of The Oil Fields And Leave Peacefully? by Onlytruth(m): 1:10am On Jan 11, 2011
ndu_chucks:
Regarding the bolded above, there is no such a thing as the territorial waters of coastal areas, there is only territorial waters of countries. That is why ALL off shore oil belongs to ALL of Nigeria. Hence you cannot give away what is not yours as a region prior to becoming a nation who owns those territorial waters and the resources therein.

The remainder of your post is incoherent, please restate your point.
What is incoherent about the fact that groundnut was NOT the only export earnings accruing to the federal coffers prior to oil?
Wasn't there cocoa, coal, oil palm, rubber, timber and cashew from the south as well?

Some have even argued that southern exports pulled in more revenue than northern ones (very plausible) hence the amalgamation.

So, where do you get the information that groundnut proceeds exclusively funded the development of oilfields?  huh huh
PoliticsRe: What If The North Takes Half Of The Oil Fields And Leave Peacefully? by Onlytruth(m): 12:38am On Jan 11, 2011
ndu_chucks:
The idea of paying the North, East, West, or South off is ridiculous on several levels. First off, 90% of the crude oil exported in the past 10 years or so have come from offshore activities.  Accoording to international laws, that oil belongs to Nigeria and not to any coastal region. I don’t believe you’d find anyone living in the ocean or who can claim that his ancestors lived there. Clearly, you cannot give away what is not yours.

As far as the on shore oil fields are concerned, appropriate derivations are in place and the states where those fields are located are appropriately compensated. Your reps can decide to adjust the numbers as they see fit, that’s what democracy is all about.   Now in order to pay the North off with some of the proceeds of the on shore oil fields, you’d also have to repay the funds provided from ground nut exports, most of which was used to pay your salaries, build some of your infrastructure, and actually develop some of the very oil fields in question.  I dey go come.
grin grin grin

So, only groundnut export proceeds were used to develop the oilfields? There were no cocoa and oil palm, rubber, timber etc proceeds from the south?  huh huh

I would admit that I don't know yet about international laws concerning such situation as Nigeria's offshore resources (I would have to research that), but common sense tells me that you cannot be in the north ( a separate country by then) free from all the environmental impacts of oil exploration (flaring, shore pollution in times of spillage, etc) and still smile to the bank when revenues accrue. Something doesn't seem right in the picture.

Now, forget the onshore ones. They are NO GO areas.  grin grin cool
