Anioma NEEDS a state because like 006 pointed out; there is an identity crisis of sorts over there with Delta state having almost two capitals -Asaba and Warri.  So, a state will help Anioma people. Ngwa people DON'T need a state. There is NO NEED for one. Igboland has many groups. I personally can agitate for Nnewi or Anaedo state, but it is idiotic.

These states are not viable. We need resource control first. Then, regions can decide to divide as they feel.

Igbo is a nation with many groups inside it. That is a common knowledge. For you to unduly harp on that point alone is unfortunate and is making me to begin to see Ngwa people in new light.

This is common sense. I hate things that worsen my situation and I often can see FAR before it comes to me.
Believe me I personally have no immediate reason to worry about state creation. I am in one of the best states in Nigeria, but, I know that it was better before breaking it up into Enugu, Ebonyi and Anambra states.

Probably yes, but not all gain, because if Anioma was created now without the SE quota, they will still remain with SS and that unity will not be achieved just yet.

I've heard both Ralph Uwechue and the Obi of Asaba Prof Edozien make that case that Anioma wants to join south east if we will support their state creation quest. Obviously the leaders from both sides would iron out the agreement first.

How untrue is it? Anioma showed interest but the move was blocked. One option was to carve out my LG and others from Imo, Abia and I think Enugu to form a new state but my people blocked it saying we won't leave Anambra.
So that option was killed but Ngwa were persistent with their pressure. If not for that, Anioma would have been created by now and added to SE. I support Anioma as it solves a problem, right now, Delta have 2 state capitals, Asaba and Warri.

I strongly suspect that Anioma state might materialize this time for two reasons:

(1) The current president general of Ohanaeze is from there
(2) There is NO agreement about states to be created in the south east

So, we kill two birds with one stone -give it to Anioma.

Today, we don't even have a good transit system like light rail in the south east. We don't have a state owned power plant. None of the state is strong enough to take up huge projects like was the case in the days of Okpara.

If we have real leaders in the south east, they would not support this. Let's support Anioma. They need it.

You know, I can probably say that an "Nnewi state" will be economically viable. We've got some money in my town. But, how does that bring me closer to my kind in Ngwa or Aro, or Nsukka, or Abakaliki? All these are my people. We speak same language. We may not be of the same origin, but who is?

I've said it before, the only way Igbos could have a meaningful development is to regroup again and form just ONE state, and still get all the allocations meant for all these false states, whether the country have 100 states or not.

Again the Igbo should support Anioma state creation because it solves a particular problem. We don't need any new state in the south east. I say we give Anioma the south east "quota" for state. It helps them and frees them up to join the south east if they want.

Since all these new states started, show me a single leader or intellectual giant that has emerged from Igboland.

Today they are very active in ALL former eastern states: Anambra, Imo, Ebonyi, Akwa-Ibom, Cross rivers, Rivers,Abia,  Delta and Enugu.

Jonathan promised a free and fair elections next year and I think he will deliver on that promise. To achieve that of course, I strongly suspect he will not run.
Having said that, anything is possible in politics.

I would support either candidate, no shaking.

Donald Duke needs to do REAL politicking. Everybody wants something. He should go to the South east and meet with Ohanaeze. Then he should meet (even if by proxy) with MASSOB, then he should also meet (by proxy again) with MEND. These are the real grass root mobilizers in the two zones (south east/south south). He should pick an activist from the north as his running mate. Believe me, if he does these, and there is free and fair elections, we will win.

All these are assuming that Jonathan is not running. There is no way the two can run successfully.
I would advise Donald Duke to go for it next year through another party(nothing is stopping him ). He should use AC but should run on a joint ticket with APGA. Only then can he beat a PDP candidate in a free and fair election.

I remember that my town had clean tarred roads and pipe borne water even inside the villages in the days of East Central state. As I write now, there are no pipe borne water in my town. All the roads built when most part of Igboland was one state are all gone now. As I write now, Peter Obi is trying his best to rebuild all those roads. Tomorrow, someone will break up my state and the new state will get a rogue for a governor and it would be deja vous all over again.

I think that the only reason the south east is agitating for extra state is because of the disparity with other geopolitical zones. If that disparity is normalized, or if resource control is fully implemented at zonal level, Ndigbo will not likely create more states.
I know that some parts of Igboland are very fractious (I heard there are about 800 autonomous communities in Imo state alone! ), leadership is about pointing out the harm in that!

It is self defeating to break up peoples of the same culture. When you break up peoples of the same language, you are actually waging a war on their ultimate survival. Only true leaders can understand this point.

In the name of God, if you cannot implement full resource control, STOP breaking up my land into nonviable bits and pieces. Any town that wants a state created for it must NOT RECEIVE a dime from the federal government!

On the face value, it would seem like state creation is a good thing but if you look back through the years, you would realize that division is actually evil.
Most Nigerians agree that we were happier in the old Nigeria with 3 or 4 regions than when 12 states were created.
I was happier in the East-central state than I was in old Anambra state.
I was happier in old Anambra state than I am now in the new Anambra State.
It is only logical to conclude that I will be happier in the current Anambra state than when another state is carved out of it.

For every new state creation, we produce  quantity, but lose more quality of general life: leadership, economy, education, social harmony, cultural stability and language. Above all, we sow evil seeds of disunity among brothers.
The initial state creation by Gowon in 1967 was a WAR STRATEGY. How can it be a good thing in time of peace?
