men no be me go tell you the time, go ask your parent, let them give you the dates, as for Niger, i maintain it is only people who haven't traveled that talk rubbish about Nigeria not been developed .

Please give us a period in time when the Naira value was greater than the dollar or better for that matter. Also, Which countries are you talking about? i hope you are not comparing Nigeria to Niger Republic. If so then of course Nigeria is better.
PoliticsRe: Common Lies Nigerians Tell Themselves About Nigeria. by onoja12: 7:20pm On Nov 10, 2015
Thanks for reminding me. going by per capital earning what number those u.s.a, china and Russia fall, please tell the world and for your info per capital earning, is in terms of standard of living on not wealth of the country.

og2711:
Ignorance, is a terrible, terrible disease. This is the sort of guy that just talks out of his anus with no research, information or facts. "Most countries with large population have low GDP". Firstly I'm sure he meant to say 'per capita'. Just to educate you, per capita is GDP divided by population, so if you have a low one, you simply up your GDP. That is the real yardstick for measuring wealth, not all the rubbish you wrote. Eg. If a country has $2,000,000 GDP BUT only 2 citizens, that makes it the richest in the world.

The United States does not have a low per capita. Neither does China, Russia.
PoliticsRe: Common Lies Nigerians Tell Themselves About Nigeria. by onoja12:
says who? china has a poor per capital earning but is arguably the richest country in the world, so you don't know what you are talking about, Nigeria has a purchasing power of over 1trillion dollars, read the figure well, which makes Nigeria the 23 richest country in the world. if you don't know economics please don't speak about it.

Sweetguy25:
Oga. I'm only stating facts

1. Nigeria was never a great country. That we had free education or a currency that was equivalent to the dollar in the 60s and 70s does not make the country great.
2. Nigeria is one of the poorest countries in the world and its human development and prosperity are amongst the lowest in Africa.
PoliticsRe: Common Lies Nigerians Tell Themselves About Nigeria. by onoja12: 5:40pm On Nov 10, 2015
you are the dumb head, don't go into economics with me, or your brains would go on fire, please educate us what is the yard stick for measuring wealth because technically America is not wealthy, just simply managing to defraud the world by forcing the world to trade in the dollar?

sammhi:
you must be dumb head.so naira being greater than dollar makes your economy or country great. at independence in 1960..go check if you had roads in this country..Nigeria was bush.. we had to send our army to India, Britain and the US to train..
we had only one airport more like a an airfield.. had only one university U.I established by the white man .., how many homes have a tv set?...we can go and on...
the truth is at independence in 1960 and given our population then , we had a chance to be great..but we were never there... due to misfits in governance and our naroow minded and shallow mindset leading to socio political quagmire and chains
the truth is dollar is even under valued ..if dollar is rightly valued ,... most countries will cease to exist or will be in serious trouble ..so deliberately, the US govt keeps the dollar at a rate conducive for all.....
two weeks ago, the dollar went up world wide and the whole world almost collapse...
please try and know indices for assessing a great nation....there is nothing great about us except for population wise..

Freegift75:
This is a true life story

My immediate siblings are twin brothers, same mother and father. November 5, they will mark their 39yrs of age. Taiwo and Kehinde happily married and lived comfortably.

Taiwo married a banker while Kehinde married University non-academic staff. They are both devoted christians and they both live in same town.

About a year ago, we lost Taiwo in a fatal accident and left a surviving wife as widow and three kids. Six months later, as their senior brother and the breadwinner of the whole family, I summoned Kehinde to re-marry Taiwo's wife to continue playing the role of husband.

Kehinde and Taiwo's wife agreed to marry each other but Kehinde's wife kicked against the union. Kehinde only has one child and since 8yrs now nothing more.

Kehinde's wife got provoked, lashed me with demeaning words and thereby reported me to our Church senior pastor at the headquarters and I was demoted for involving in sacrilegious belief.

It's a shock today again to have received a letter from the headquarters that I'm no more needed as pastor in their ministry due to this same issue.

This is a ministry that I had spent a lot towards its growth. The land our branch was built on was bought by me alone.

Now, what is my offence?

SenseiX:
A DECISION by Nigerian authorities to impose a fine on MTN Group Ltd. of more than 20 percent of its market value risks foreign investment in an economy struggling to cope with sliding oil prices, currency restrictions and no finance minister.

“The brazenness of Nigerian authorities to levy such a penalty is attracting attention,” Gareth Brickman, an Africa analyst at ETM Analytics NA LLC in Stamford, Connecticut, said in an e-mailed note to clients on Wednesday.

“Investor perceptions of Nigeria have been strained to say the least by policy makers’ management of the naira and the new administrations’ lack of progress on economic reform.”

Nigeria’s telecommunications regulator this week fined Johannesburg-based MTN, Africa’s biggest mobile-phone operator, $5.2 billion for failing to disconnect customers with unregistered SIM cards and having incomplete data, causing the shares to post their biggest three-day plunge in Johannesburg since 2008.

Nigeria is MTN’s biggest market, where it had 62 million customers by September.

Investors are losing faith in President Muhammadu Buhari, who has yet to name his cabinet five months after taking office. He has backed foreign-currency controls imposed by the central bank that’s led to an overvalued naira, restricted imports and curbed economic growth in Africa’s biggest oil producer.

The economy grew at 2.4% in the second quarter from a year ago, its slowest pace this decade.

“Are investors not supposed to respect the laws of the land where they are operating?” Tony Ojobo, spokesman for the Nigerian Communications Commission, said by phone from Abuja. “It is in accordance with our regulations and guidelines that if service providers don’t comply they’ll face a penalty.”

Security concerns

The fine has reinforced investors’ cautious mood, Brickman said. “These kinds of incidents will only add to the checklist of reasons for investors to stay away for the foreseeable future,” he said.

MTN said on Oct. 26 that the penalty relates to the timing of the disconnection of 5.1 million MTN Nigeria subscribers in August and September and is based on a fine of 200,000 naira ($1,005) for each unregistered subscriber.

Yinka David-West, a senior fellow in Information Systems at Lagos Business School, said the stricter rules on registration were aimed at improving security in a country where kidnapping for ransom is rife and the government is struggling to end an insurgency by Boko Haram militants in the northeast.

“This registration exercise started because of a security issue,” she said by phone on Wednesday. “It’s not just about having a database of names and numbers. It’s a tool that is supposed to help fight terrorism, kidnapping, money laundering and all sorts of issues.”

It was very stupid and disrespectful of him to have worn a crown to meet a Yoruba king. Was he trying to compare himself to a monarch? Eze Ndigbo title is just for representation of the Igbos in diaspora, but some of the so called Ezes have taken it too far. Trying to wear a crown in another man's region means asking for trouble when you know you're not a monarch. Only the likes of Obi of Onitsha etc may wear a crown to visit a fellow king as those are true monarchs.

If the Yorubas won't have Oba in Onitsha, I see no reason why the Igbos should have an Eze Ndigbo in any state outside their region. That's just disrespectful . . . to add insult to injury, he wore a crown to meet the DEJI OF AKURE! Chai. . . Igbo people can fall my hand with lack of respect. from your write up you sound like one of those who worship coloured skin,so to make yourself important you have to fill that you are a master in english which by the way is not your fathers language.like i said read, there was a ban on bringing in rice by road though the border and that was because rather than land at nigerian sea port, importers were landing at benin republic which has cheaper duty,so to save revenue they put a ban on border import of rice, not a ban on importation of rice, you have always been free to import rice as long as it lands in Nigeria port, and to make it a wewe issue GEJ introduce 30% duty for those with quoter from the government and 70% duty for those without quoter and even in some cases gave his party supporter duty free on there rice import or out right waver

please educate yourself on policies, there have never been a ban on import of rice.first and second news flash all countries are corrupt, infact the bigger countries have bigger corruption in more complex dimension.

byrron:
No country has completely eradicated corruption but most countries have reduced corruption to the minimum in their societies by tackling it head-on and by completely enforcing their laws and strengthening their various criminal justice systems.

They were able to achieve this by not monetizing corruption like the idiotic reason giving by the custom service for lifting the ban on rice importation in Nigeria.

Are they gonna lift the ban on all formerly banned items in Nigeria simply because they can not man the Nigerian borders therefore, let the goods come in then they will pay whatever import duty we charge them?

Isn't that an economic suicide on the country as well as showcasing of gross incompetence and dereliction of duty?

If the Nigerian custom can not carry out their statutory responsibilities then it should be scrapped and the borders should be thrown open for in-flocks of all manner of goods.

Secondly, are they statutorily empowered to ban and lift bans on goods coming into Nigeria?

PoliticsRe: Nigeria Rice Millers Criticise Custom’s Decision To Allow Rice Importation by onoja12: 7:18pm On Oct 08, 2015
let me understand you,was the product not been imported,or was there a ban on importing ?this move would not affect the rice sector which by the way there has been no gain aside bringing in G.M.O seeds to effect the whole country with cancer,as you know G.M.O has been ban in more than half of europe now.

TonyeBarcanista:
And this will not discourage local production? Bros, how can you tackle smuggling by allowing imported product to rival local production?

Lemme be fair to you, this move will not only reverse the gains made in the Agric sector but will open doors for more smuggling and lead to job loss!

ps:please mention one country in the hole world that has zero corruption ?

byrron:

Since the FGN have failed to stop BH, will it be logical for FGN to ask BH to register with the CAC so as to legitimize their actions after all they will now start paying their taxes to the FGN since they just can't be stopped?

Since Nigeria has failed to stop corruption for 55yrs now, will it be logical to legitimize corruption since the country just can't stop it?

That is how your assertion as well as the explanation from the custom service sounds to me and it is repugnant.

The custom service has just told the world that Nigeria can not protect its bothers QED.
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Rice Millers Criticise Custom’s Decision To Allow Rice Importation by onoja12: 4:28pm On Oct 08, 2015
Why do people like talking out of ignorance, the custom boss has done the right thing.the custom has not been able to stop smuggling through the border,so why not allow them in through legal means,if you understood the directive you would know that it doesn't affect local content or production in anyway,it says that after they have paid duty to which ever country they land their goods, they would still come back and pay the same duty they would have paid if they landed in Nigeria port,by extension it is better to come though Nigeria port than the border

erunz:
The National Rice Millers Association of Nigeria, NRMAN, said on Thursday in Abuja that the Nigerian Customs Service, NCS, erred in its decision to lift the ban on importation of rice through the land borders.
The Chairman of the association, Mohammed Abubakar, said the NCS overreached its statutory mandate as an enforcement agency in taking such a policy decision.
Besides, Mr. Abubakar said, if the customs succeeded in its decision, it would destroy Nigeria’s rice value chain attained by the previous administration.
Mr. Abubakar, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Umza Rice, said the decision was an attempt by the customs to legitimise the smuggling of rice.
“First of all, the customs does not have the power to do that, it is a matter of national policy and customs does not make national policy, it is an implementation agency.
“This will completely kill the rice value chain and everything concerning rice production will stop; customs does not have the right to make such decision.
“This ban was placed six years ago and everybody knows that, so it does not have any reason to say rice should be brought in through the land borders.
“Anyone who gives such directive has smuggling intentions,” he said.
Mr. Abubakar said the association would do everything possible to make customs to see patriotic reason and rescind the decision.
He urged government to be focused and have the political will to make sure Nigeria becomes self sufficient in rice production.

Sincere9gerian:
I have personally and officially followed closely, the case of Ladipo market, Mushin LGA Lagos. I assert that the closing down of Ladipo market by the Lagos State Government and the arrest, detention and dehumanizing of Igbo traders in that market is a clear case of oppression and injustice by powerful, primordial forces intent on dislodging the traders, dispossessing them of their assets and taking over a market they built with their own sweat and resources.

This is the culmination of a long-drawn scheme and ceaseless attempts by these self-serving and base individuals and forces to forcefully and illegally throw out the traders and take over their market, in utter violation of subsisting agreements that the traders will run the market for a specified period of time having spent their money constructing structures in the market.

The claims of 'environmental degradation','obstruction of traffic and drainage' etc are fraudulent pretext and sheer subterfuge for what is apparently a case of ethnic persecution fuelled by hatred and the individual avarice of some people who have over the years nursed the ambition to take over the market- and have on several occasions- and up to December 2012, used both the police and thugs to harass, intimidate, hound and even made attempts on the lives of the leadership and members of the traders association. A section of the media has also been employed to propagate falsehood in furtherance of the dubious agenda of the masterminds of this wicked act. Those innocent traders branded 'bakasi boys' and currently detained by the police must be released. The issues leading to, and surrounding, the closure of the market should be transparently investigated and truth and justice must prevail!
