naptu2: Please read to the end before responding.
Why do some Nigerian Police trucks carry grass/hay? Here's the answer.
Pictures of Nigerian Police trucks carrying grass have gone viral many times on social media and people have often been shocked and wondered why a police truck should carry grass. Well, here's the answer.
1) Trucks are designed to haul goods.
Trucks are designed to haul goods. That's one of their main purposes. Many farms have pickup trucks that are used to haul hay, farm produce and equipment. www.nairaland.com/attachments/10142006_agrass_jpegd5d6264245cad86c2062c52393e8c614

2) Not all police vehicles are patrol vehicles
The Nigerian Police, like other organisations (companies, etc.), needs to perform a variety of tasks to keep the organisation going and therefore, not all police vehicles are used to chase and apprehend criminals. The police also own vehicles that are used to carry out tasks that do not involve law enforcement. For example, these buses below (Mercedes Benz 0302 and 0303) were quite common in the Nigerian Police fleet in the 1980s. They were used by the Nigerian Police Band and they were also used as staff buses by the police.

3) That truck is not a regular patrol vehicle
That truck is not a regular police patrol vehicle. Read what's written on the side of the vehicle. It belongs to the Nigerian Police Mounted Unit. It is a logistics vehicle for the Mounted Police. It is not a patrol vehicle.

4) The Mounted Police
The Mounted Police is a unit of the Nigerian Police Force. Officers and men of the Mounted Police operate on horseback. They are involved in crowd control (at sports events, political rallies and other such events that have a lot of people), policing street processions, policing areas that have a difficult terrain (e.g. beaches) and police horses are also used in parades and other ceremonial purposes (e.g. escorting the president on Independence Day). Mounted Police do not patrol in trucks. They patrol on horseback.

5) This is not a side hustle or private business and it's got nothing to do with cows or Fulani herdsmen
The grass in that truck is used to feed police horses. They are not used for the private business of policemen or their bosses, they are not for Fulani herdsmen or any such civilian group. The grass is used to feed police horses. Police horses must eat and they eat grass.
6) There's nothing strange about this practice. It's done around the world.
That truck is not a patrol vehicle. It belongs to the Mounted Police and it is used to haul grass/hay for police horses, to carry equipment for the horses and to tow horse trailers. There's nothing strange about this practice. It's done around the world. This is a Chicago Police Department pickup truck hauling grass for their mounted police unit after a Thanksgiving parade. Note the hay on the back of the pickup truck, on the floor and on the payloader.

7) Safety concern
The problem in the case of the Nigerian mounted police is that they dumped too much grass in the truck (overloading) and that the load wasn't properly fastened to prevent it from spilling from the truck, obstructing other road users or impairing their vision. Thank u |

GistMore11: 4 dead, 2 injured in another mass killing as man goes on two-hour rampage in Los Angeles
Four people are dead and two others injured after a man "full of anger" went on a two-hour stabbing rampage in a series of random attacks in Los Angeles.
The man, 33, killed two men at the apartment complex where he lives in Garden Grove before going on to kill a Subway worker and a security guard at a branch of 7-Eleven.
One of his victims was stabbed in the back at a petrol station as he filled his vehicle and was left with his nose almost severed completely off his face.
During the attacks, the man robbed several businesses across the area, including a bakery and an insurance business.
Police Lieutenant Carl Whitney said that the attacker was Hispanic and all his victims were Hispanic too. He said the motives were "robbery, hate and homicide".
He said: "We know this guy was full of anger and he harmed a lot of people tonight."
4 dead, 2 injured in another mass killing as man goes on two-hour rampage in Los Angeles
It is believed there had been some kind of confrontation at the attacker's apartment building that led to one person being stabbed in their flat and dying at hospital and another being found dead on the balcony.
The suspect’s silver Mercedes was tracked to the parking lot of a 7-Eleven store in Santa Ana, where a security guard was disarmed and stabbed to death, Mr Whitney said.
The owner of the bakery that was attacked said: "He went directly to the register and tried to open the register… he showed me a gun."
The attacker took all the money and fled, the woman revealed.
She added: "I think I was very lucky because he thought I was a customer, not the owner."
The mass killing comes just days after 31 people were killed in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio.

kahal29: The chance of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar in the Feb.23 presidential election to present 400 witnesses listed in their petition against President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election within the remaining three days continued to tick away.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that all parties in the matter had agreed to open and close their cases within specified period.
The parties, therefore, agreed to workable modalities in the management of time to ensure the petition was dispensed within the 180 days allowed by the Electoral Act.
Flowing from the agreement, the ten days allotted to the petitioners to open and close their argument which commenced on July 4 would expire on July 17. NAN reports that all the respondents were also given six days to present their responses to the petitioners’ allegations.
In light of this, the respondents are expected to open their separate defences between July 18 and July 25.
To the chagrin of visitors to the tribunal on Friday, the petitioners had urged to the court to adjourn until July 15.
Chief Chris Uche, SAN, Counsel for the petitioners had informed the tribunal that their witnesses earmarked for the day could be reached.
Uche said the witnesses who were based in Zamfara State were attacked by arms men while on their way to Abuja on Thursday.
Dr Livy Uzoukwu, SAN, the lead counsel for the petitioners, rose to complement the information been availed the tribunal by Uche, adding that the witnesses were yet to found.
“My Lords, it is true that those we have listed to present for further testimonies were attacked while coming to Abuja from Zamfara state, and therefore it will be impracticable to go further.
“ We pray for an adjournment until Monday, July 15 for continuation’’, Uzoukwu said.
So far, the petitioners have tendered 31,287 exhibits to prove various allegations of malpractice in the poll, but have presented less than 60 out of the 400 witnesses.
Earlier, Mr Oseni Haruna, Local Government Area Collation Agent for PDP told the court that violence and over voting marred the process, but was unable to provide cogent evidence to substantiate those claims.

Politics › Re: Buhari Marking His Last Christmas In Office –PDP by Onyemabright(m): 6:16pm On Dec 25, 2018 |
Johnnyessence: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organization (PPCO) has urged Nigerians not to despair, as this Christmas would be their last under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari and All Progressives Congress (APC). But the President has told the opposition PDP that it’s living in a dream world, saying 2018 Christmas is the best for Nigerians in recent time. Director, Media and Publicity of PPCO, Kola Ologbondiyan, in a message to mark this year’s Christmas, called on Nigerians to collectively resolve to vanquish oppressive forces and build a peaceful, united and prosperous country, where all citizens will live without fear.
“The birth of Jesus Christ, the Saviour, signifies the triumph of light over darkness and offers Nigerians the new hope and spiritual impetus in their shared quest for a brighter future for our nation under a new administration,” the party said. It lamented the ugly situation in which Nigerians could not celebrate Christmas as they used to do prior to the emergence of Buhari as president in 2015. PDP, however, said Nigerians should not despair as its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has perfected templates to revamp the economy and ease suffering in the country if elected president next year.
“The Atiku Abubakar policy document shows his commitment to entrench greater participation of our citizens in economic activities in various sectors, as against the Buhari exclusionist system, where our collective patrimony is only accessed by a cabal in the presidency and corrupt APC leaders. “In the same vein, the Atiku Abubakar policy document shows practical intervention in infrastructure and policy drive, in such a manner that guarantees rapid inflow of investments, which will in turn, revamp our ailing productive sectors, create jobs, boost the value of the naira and increase the purchasing power of Nigerians from this abysmally low level under President Buhari, to one of the most competitive in the world.
“Moreover, Atiku Abubakar offers a new era of justice, equity, inclusiveness and respect for our national diversities as against the injustice, nepotism, disdain for the rights of citizens and corrupt body language with which the Buhari presidency fouled our system, brought hardship, escalation of violence and bloodletting in our country. “Nigerians should, therefore, celebrate this year’s Christmas, focusing on the brighter future that awaits our nation under Atiku Abubakar as the next president and not on the pessimism and promise of more suffering by President Buhari,” the statement added. However, the spokesman of the Presidential Campaign Organisation of APC, Mr. Festus Keyamo (SAN) dismissed the threat by the PDP to make this Christthe last for the Buhari regime. Keyamo described this statement as daydreaming and an act of desperation.
“They are living in Lalaland – a dream world. It’s a place where people dream of good things. So when they are saying that President Buhari is celebrating his last Christmas in office, they are living in Lalaland. It is the height of desperation on their part. “The truth of the matter is that what they have said is part of their usual lies in the face of clear statistics and logic.
Let them continue to live in their Lalaland; let them continue to live in their dream world until Nigerians decide their fate precisely on February 16, 2019,” he said. Keyamo told New Telegraph that contrary to the assertion by the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, the current Christmas remains Nigeria’s best in recent years because it was devoid of fuel shortage, long queues at filling stations and hardship in transportation. “Let me just remind them: This is about the best Christmas that Nigerians are enjoying because there is no fuel scarcity at all. During their time, it was a traditional thing during Christmas time that the fuel queues will return.
At that time, even though pump price of fuel was N97 per litre, people were buying fuel at N300 or N400 per litre at the end of the day. So the official pump price of fuel at that time was nothing but a ruse and unsustainable. But right now, even though fuel sells at N145 per litre, you can see that there is stability in both the price and availability of the product. “Nigerians are enjoying one of the best Christmas ever sure of free flow of transportation. Before, by this time, people could not travel because of fuel scarcity and hike in transport fare,” he said. https://www.newtelegraphng.com/2018/12/buhari-marking-his-last-christmas-in-office-pdp/ PDP FOOLISH Oooooo |

Politics › Re: 3 PDP Presidential Aspirants Pick Senate, Guber Forms Through Surrogates by Onyemabright(m): 9:44pm On Sep 10, 2018 |
yjgm: At least three high profile presidential aspirants in Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have used surrogates to purchase Senate and governorship forms as they perfect alternative political survival strategies ahead of the national convention of the party. The three, including two serving senators and an incumbent governor, it was gathered, picked the forms through surrogates.
The PDP presidential aspirants have consistently played out the option of returning to their current positions in the event of losing out the PDP presidential primaries scheduled for October 6, multiple sources in the party have repeatedly said.
Twelve persons have so far picked the PDP presidential nomination and expression of interest forms. They include Atiku Abubakar, Ahmed Makarfi, Sule Lamido, Attahiru Bafarawa, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Tanimu Turaki, and Ibrahim Dankwambo.
The others are Aminu Tambuwal, David Mark, Bukola Saraki, Datti Baba Ahmed and Stanley Osifo.
The move by the trio all of whom, remarkably all returned to the PDP from All Progressives Congress, APC, came as resentment continues to build against some of the aspirants who left the party for the APC in 2014 and contributed to the loss of the party in the 2015 general election.
Reflective of the resentment, Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, Vanguard gathered, practically told off one of the presidential aspirants who recently rejoined the party.
“Fayose could barely spend time with him and told him that they abandoned the party at the time of need. I think I told you that this man is a bad man,” the governor was quoted as telling the presidential aspirant who left the PDP in 2014 only to return a few weeks ago.
The presidential aspirant spent barely one hour in the state upon the cold reception from Fayose who could barely hide the strategic role of the PDP returnee in Buhari’s emergence as president in 2015.
The resentment against the PDP returnees, it was learned, was also swelling among some PDP organs, including Board of Trustees, BoT, where influential members were beginning to question the propriety of handing over the party’s most valued asset to those who they claimed abandoned the party only to come back to meet it intact.
PDP presidential aspirants not fully committed to the party—Adejumo
Meanwhile, vice chairman of Lagos State chapter of the party, Alhaji Agbaje Adejumo, has accused many of the presidential aspirants of not being fully committed to the party.
He said all but one of them, Atiku, are eyeing other positions and using the presidency as a bargaining chip.
He said:“We wish to declare that the former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, is the only candidate that has full and total commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party and the presidential race.
“Upon investigation, it has been discovered that other aspirants may not be fully committed to Peoples Democratic Party and the presidential election.”
Adejumo in a statement, yesterday, in Abuja said: “How do we know? Well, evidence has come to light that others who have declared their intention to contest the office of the President of Nigeria on the platform of PDP have bought and submitted their presidential nomination forms.
“However, they have not stopped there. They have also secretly bought and submitted either a gubernatorial declaration of interest form or a senatorial declaration of interest form in addition to their presidential declaration form.
“This is a defeatist mentality. They have their Plan B because they are not sure of their Plan A.
“Atiku Abubakar is about the only candidate who has bought and submitted his PDP presidential nomination form and no other form. He is fully and totally committed to PDP and the presidential race.” “Atiku has no plan B because he is fully and totally committed to his plan A of which he is fully assured of victory. Under the rain and under the sun, Atiku is for the PDP and the Presidency.
“The million Naira question is this: Can the Peoples Democratic Party afford to give its ticket to wavering candidates being that a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways,” he stated.
