Lool..someone is giving you genuine advice that you will appreciate later but you prefer to crack joke, nobody is being pessimistic here but you have to be realistic at times in life. Have you ever thought for one second that if after paying and you dont get your visa what will happen to your money? $2000 in this economy is about #760000. Dont seee every advice as a bad one.Only CHANGE is the constant thing..again Life itself is a risk. If you ask me since you have no other option, i will say you should pay. concerning form A, i was on form A with first bank for almost 3 weeks, cancelled it when my deadline was approaching and nothing concrete was coming out of the bank. i had to get the money in the US via 2 gtb attms, money gram, western union etc. BTW GTB atm is #380/dollar with #460 bank charge per witdrawal and western union with charges was #385/dollar while money gram was #401/dollar. so weigh your options. The form A guy called my sister that theyhave oppened the portal after in the 4th week. . I pray you get your visa in jesus name. All the best

Me too, they told me the form A worked after I have paid through black market, wicked people

You should widen your options to schools in Texas as well..try UTD,UTA and submit your application as early as you can. You should get funding with your profile for EE. Hope your LoRs and statement are really good too.
Another thing that can help your application is also to contact professors who's research work align with what you want, and then email them about your interest. Give them a call if you can. You should have read few of their papers before doing this, or they might not even reply your email.

@bilikey, how can someone get to read all those professors publication. I have been trying to find some professor publication but to no avail

When u get to dallas find the check in point of the airline and see if they have an earlier flight...... despite your connecting flight ticket if there is an earlier flight to portland the airline can put you on the next flight for free if there is space so u wont need to wait 17hours..

I dont know d flight schedule for dallas to portland but more likely the airline might have ealier flights
**And this advice if for anyone with a connecting or local flight within America

Thank you. I will try that out

Go into town. Buythe daily pass, ride on the red line from the airport, change lines at Downtown to either of the other lines or hopefully, one of the Dallas guys can come take you around. Go to Yembo or some African restaurant to eat some nice Nigerian delicacy. Worst case, go to 6 Flags at Arlington and enjoy the roller coaster rides.

@ Gboyeda. I am bit confused, maybe you can explain more.

Get an original print out and show them at the POE. If asked let them know no direct flight from Nigeria and that's the cheapest you have seen. Make sure you have the printout of a confirmed local flight. But ensure you don't go too early also. Like you are going 29 days before school resumes and then you head for Texas direct whereas your school is in new york.

@gunther, imperiouxx, and dickoflife. Please how can I wait for 17 hours at dallas before my connecting flight. The thought of it dey give headache. 17 hours na more half day. What can I do during that 17 hours wait. Please I need you guys suggestion

You are welcome.
My 2 cents on this matter goes thus:
As a first time traveller be neutral in your submissions. Be firm in response and not overbearing or abusive. The first check you will get is the airline staff. Some are prone to ask stupid questions like where are you going? What is your purpose and all.. Kindly restate its none of their biz and ask them to check you in and move on. Next is customs, try not to carry banned items or those in liquid form so you do not have a problem. Stand your ground that you will not drop a dime. Next is the immigration checkpoint which is where passports are tendered. Do not look at them directly, pose an air of non chalance, to show you care not about what he does and answer questions firmly. Do not allow them bully you. After you are done some ndlea and sss officers usually gather at the point of leaving the immigration counter, some will demand to see your passport. They do not have the right. Be firm in making them understand that. Drug agents are not empowered to stop and harrass. That's what the immigration official is for. Yellow card isn't needed to board a flight to the US. The issues of pta or bta also concerns no immigration official as long as you have a visa you can board a flight without any issue. The issue arises at the point of entry however, because it is expected that you have 1000$ to cover contigencies. Should anyone attack you over this they do not have the right. It is not their duty but rather that of those at the point of entry.. Lastly if you are going to atlanta abeg don't book houston ticket and expect angel zebrudayah to clear the way for you. Try as much as possible to get tickets to a neighbouring state with a connecting local flight or bus pass to your final destination. I did this by buying aticket to chicago and booked a bus pass for michigan, grand rapids slated for the next day as my flight lands by 9:45 pm local time. Lastly please do not carry foodstuffs as if the national research institute needs them for pharmacology purposes, this usually causes delays at point of entry and in most cases secondary examination. A case in point is that of mine in Istanbul few years back and also at Vnukovo airport. From then I decided carrying food from one continent to the other should majorly be the job of migrating birds. I hope this epistle has helped. See ya all on the other side (I mean Amelika o not heaven)

@ dicklife, I booked Qatar Airways, I am going to portland, Oregon state. But my POE is dallas and the time for my connecting flight to portland, is 17 hours. I hope it won't cause much of a problem at the POE. Also I don't know where to stay to wait for 17 hours before I board my connecting flight

Hello people

Please if I want to switch from one discipline to another, say Chemistry to Chem eng in the same school.
How do I go about it?
When is the best time to switch?

Slimmy2005 aadeyi imperiouxx

You have start thinking of taking core undergraduate chemical engineering courses like chemical reaction engineering, fluid flows, heat and mass transfer, ordinary and partial differential equations, and chemical thermodynamics. You also have to know that chemical engineering involves a lot of mathematics than chemistry. If I were you, talk to a professor in the chemical eng dept in your school, he can make the transition easier. There is no big deal about it. Is all about hard work and determination. My BSC is pure and Industrial chemistry. I am going for MSC in chemical eng

Pasadena009:
I have been wanting to share my experience; never shared it publicly, perhaps this will be a great avenue to do so. Got my visa in 2007 at the US Lagos Consulate office.

I arrived at approximately 8am, my interview was at 9am. I was barely 18 yrs old...a month shy

Interview
VO: Good morning young man
Me: Good morning ma'am
VO: What's your full name?
ME: Answered...stammer on my first name like I usually do; took 8 seconds to get it out. I realized she was patiently looking at me as I blocked & stammered with the pain of a mother.
VO: Appears that you have a stammer
Me: Yes I do
VO: My son has it too. Take your time and I'll be patient with you
Me: Very appreciative ma'am.
VO: What's your date of birth.
Me: Told her xxxxxx
VO: What university are you going to?
Me: California Institute of Technology
VO: She paused, look at me and said...that's the best engineering school country and probably also in the world.
Me: I very much aware that
VO: You must be an ingenious since only the likes of Albert Einstein go there
Me: Smiled. I guess I must be as smart as Einstein.
VO: Grinned. What course are going to be studying?
Me: Mechanical engineering as major and minor in Aerospace engineering.
VO: Who is your sponsor?
Me: I have my Dad's bank statement however I'm under full scholarship for both undergraduate and graduate programs by CALTECH.
VO: Can I see your bank statement and proof of scholarship
Me: Sure
VO: Very unusual to have a student born with a silver spoon riding on a full academic college scholarship to a prestigious school.
Me: Smiled.
VO: Can I see your tests and scores
Me: Gave her my Waec, SAT and Toefl
VO: Looked at me again,
VO: Talked to her next officer, they both looked at me again.
Me: Now I'm wondering...hope all is well
VO: I see you have all distinctions, overall best in your class and also have the highest SAT score we have seen here.
Me: Thank you ma'am
VO: Why did you choose CALTECH?
Me: Actually I had applied and accepted on full scholarship to MIT, Georgia Tech and CALTECH.
VO: I see but you didn't answer my question
Me: Oh, I chose CALTECH simply because I wanted to be close to water/beach, cool weather as I don't like snow and high humidity
VO: Smiled
VO: Congratulations, come back at noon to pick up your visa. Wish you all the best!
Me: Thank you ma'am

That was how I left the country! My advice is...be yourself. One thing I observed with every of my secondary school classmates that left for US was they were all going for engineering. The ones that were going for art, humanities or pure science majors, most were denied. Age is also a factor too...under 25 seem reasonable for undergraduate. Above 25, I would advise you go the graduate route.

Congrats Bro, am so happy for you

But seriously, the USA universities are weird, I wrote gre scored 310 but anytime I wanted to apply to USa schools, the tuition fee is rattling as imagine a school like cool public flagship Ohio state University charging $16,000 a semester excluding stuff like student fees insurance and accommodation and most the nice flagships , getting GA is crazy, even if they discount 6,000 dollars ok and u wld have to pay it for 4 semesters. I jst switched to Germany straight and applied to their top schools, u guys are bold to apply to those schools

Your GRE score is competitive. Congrats. US Schools are expensive shall. But the truth is that US degree are respected all over world. Germany is very OK. Have you gotten any admit in Germany. And which of the schools did you apply?
