Nairalandmonika:You are right, I got "drug" and "vaccine" mixed up. |
baralatie:I used the phrase "making attempts" which means they are in the process, an ongoing effort, not that a certified vaccine is ready for the market. All entities mentioned are already or in the process of conducting human trials, which of course is one of the critical stages in getting a vaccine ready for the market. baralatie:Joshson & Johnson is not the only company making attempts to develop a vaccine. Pfizer in conjunction with BioNTech (a German company) and Gilead sciences (which so far have had successful trial results) are leading the pack. https://edition.cnn.com/world/live-news/coronavirus-pandemic-intl-04-17-20/h_a514206d2543ecb2216db4a512ddfc1b Post modified My attention was drawn to the fact that Gilead was not developing a vaccine but an experimental drug as treatment against coronavirus, I mixed the two up. The other is that Gilead's experimental drug trial has failed. Aside these corrections, Moderna, Pfizer and BioNTech vaccine trials are still ongoing |
jasent2020:I think you should have taken your time to see the part of his post I highlighted, that would have given you a glimpse on why I mentioned him. |
Mobi47:Chai, Nairalanders! Some of you folks won't stop cracking us up. Bro, I'm not against your anti-government rant, you reserve the right to such, and I would do the same if there is a need for me to. But you see, when raising issues, always state the fact, I mean the unarguable fact. Not all patients were cured of Ebola in Nigeria. And no cure was found for Ebola. You may need to click on the links below for more details. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/how-did-nigeria-quash-its-ebola-outbreak-so-quickly/ https://www.who.int/mediacentre/news/statements/2014/nigeria-ends-ebola/en/ After all these being said, stop spreading falsehood on social media. It doesn't do us any good. |
mrvitalis:Read the news again. Don't just jump to conclusion after reading the first few lines of a news report. |
DonFreshmoney:Read again, gently this time. |
Seun:Is the West also responsible for WHO's initial declaration that the use of face mask was ineffective, and that washing the hands and keeping the proper hygiene is the way to go? The initial campaign was to stop people from hoarding N-95 masks used primarily by health officials in the West. These masks are very important for health care officials. Mind you, there are lots of countries in the so called West with no or partial lockdown, and mandatory mask usage, yet they have managed and currently managing the pandemic exceptionally well, Sweden and New Zealand are good examples. |
In March, Beijing gave the green light to another clinical trial for a coronavirus vaccine candidate developed by the military-backed Academy of Military Medical Sciences and biotech firm CanSino Bio, shortly after US drug developer Moderna said it had begun human tests for their vaccine with the US National Institutes of Health.Even when the news report clearly states that human trial had begun in the US since March, people are still shouting conspiracy this, conspiracy that; world power this, world power that. Is it that comprehension is hard ni abi what? Toor... |
Koralords:Russia and America can strike anywhere in the world with their ICBMs. And your claim that China and Russia have deployed Mach 5+ missiles is not entirely true. However, the US, Russia and China are currently 'testing' hypersonic (weapons that run above Mach 5) conventional weapons, with Russia on track to be the first of them to deploy with 2020 as the scheduled year. Ironically, all these countries have weapons that travel beyond Mach 10+ - ICBMs are known to travel between Mach 20-27 - which makes them the fastest, most strategic and deadliest weapons in a country's arsenal due to the sheer destruction they bring. The Mach 5+ weapons being tested are conventional weapons which can be deployed in small to mid-scale war without nuclear escalation that the ICBMs bring. |
CallMeDrino:The case counted as fatality isn't the Omole case, I believe. Punch reported that a man died of the virus in LASUTH yesterday. According to the report, he lied to medical personnel that he had no travel history or symptoms synonymous to CONVID-19. But when his condition deteriorated, a resident doctor became suspicious and escalated the issue which prompted the hospital carrying out a CONVID-19 test on him, posthumously. Autopsy test shows that he has the virus, and the man had died due to renal complications from CONVID-19 |
Empiree:You've said it all bro. We've tried as much as possible to contain this virus, at least for now, what necessitate this move by the feds is what I've been trying hard to understand. |
BlackSpanner:Funny enough they have experts on ground in Italy, but instead of the issue abating, it turned to a dire situation. Honestly, I don't understand why the feds are bringing in the Chinese at this time. We don't even have up to 300 active cases, according to the current statistics released, so why bring them? Inferiority complex won't kill us in this part of the world o. |
To those insulting the OP over his message/post, you don't and should not insult him. This is the way he wants to express his love for the lady in his life, we should all respect that. The best y'all can do is to laugh at the humour and move on from it, not throw tantrums as if you're feeding or buying data for him. It is his time, his life, and he can do whatsoever he pleases with it. OP, you did well. I hope she reciprocate the kind of love you have for her. Happy new month bro. |
Seun:You have said it all. I know of a company in Lagos that laid off all its direct sales agents, about 42 of them, last week The excuse they gave was that they are going digital and won't need such employees. Why wait till this moment? Isn't that the highest level of insensitivity? The simple answer to this is, they simply want to stay afloat by cutting cost. I've said it over and over again to people around me that care to listen that this shutdown may not be good for us. Trump refused to shutdown the United States, even though some of the governors had used their constitutional powers to restrict movement in their states. He has said it repeatedly, whether possible or not, that he plans to reopen the country by mid-April. Just last week, about 3.3 million Americans filed initial unemployment claims in the US, which is the biggest in the country's history. What the country is doing is to significantly increase testing, which they were initially nonchalant about when the virus was on rampage in China, with New York spearheading that aggressively, that is why we see such large numbers everyday. Just last week, the Brazilian government started an online video campaign, albeit in proxy, that the country can't shutdown. The video shows possible devastating effects of a lockdown on the country's economy and its people. Jide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos has also refused to shutdown the state because he knows the effect of such action. Countries have raised billions and trillions of dollars to help citizens directly to cushion the effects, ours are talking about rice and beans, some of them are not even saying anything other than to shutdown. Even if we are to shutdown, where are the legislators to push for stimulus bills that will help the common man? Just as you opined, we need lots of testing centres. As at now, we don't have problem with test results because they are known within hours. All we have to do is create massive testing centres. We have facilities rotten away. The Teslim Balogun stadium alone can accommodate well over 2000 people at once. We can introduce drive through testing like the Koreans and the Americans. We can set up such spots in Borny Camp, Falomo bridge, Ikoyi bridge and Lekki toll gate. Other good spots are second Niger bridge, Abuja-Kaduna expressway and so on. This will help to identity carriers and help us isolate them as soon as possible. In a country like ours, where the large chunk of employers are small businesses, the effects of a complete lockdown will be devastating, and the people cheering them will bear the brute force of its effects. |
makewetalk2:Eeya, kpele o Mr Hyperbole, it's obvious you have this very bad attitude of using crude words, so I think it will be a waste of time to engage you. But before that... It seems you are the one that compiled the list of Africa's richest to know how much Obasanjo and co looted, and where they rank on your concorted list. I asked you to state facts, not some fibs you conjured in your head, and just to satisfy your pettiness, you resulted into rants. And please tell us, when was the Italian man tested, when did he get his result? When was Buhari tested, when did he get his result? When was Abba Kyari tested, when did he get his result? When was Bauchi governor tested, when did he get his result? When did we get the news that Akeredolu got tested, when did he get his result? I guess your search for cheap likes won't let you see how dumb you sound; clap for yourself boy, you got them. |
makewetalk2:Inasmuch as it is understandable that you're really concerned about the situation in your beloved country, learn to state true facts. The quoted statements above are blatant falsehood. Stay safe! |
6digitscomrade:I wouldn't have responded if you didn't mention the bolded. Pipeline explosion can be caused by so many factors. So, you can't blame "pipeline explosion" because it is not a factor, but the name given to such event triggered by a factor or factors. Now my friend, you should be the one to expand your horizon because staying outside the shores of this country does not automatically make you informed. If you were, you would have considered the impact your falsehood could cause if less informed people, or those who have relatives or loved ones in that area see your post. And just as you suggest, kindly focus on the damages back home and stop spreading whoppers. |
6digitscomrade:Lol...there is no need for you to be sensational. If you had checked your dictionary before making such claim, you wouldn't come out to say the explosion was caused by an asteroid impact. It is true that there is a pipeline explosion, but it was so wrong of you to have ostensibly exaggerate the cause of the explosion. What do you stand to gain from such, my friend? Peace! |
6digitscomrade:Asteroid ke You better check your dictionary before you make an outrageous claim |
May God protect the victims. |
To know SLS, just ask any First Bank employee (manager level upward) that worked at the bank headquarters when he was the CEO. The guy is a big fraud. |
Except the Op is just writing for the sake of it, those bikers or napeps are not in VI, Ikoyi, Obalende, Apapa and Ebute Metta anymore; this is 100% fact. |
seunlayi:Maybe you need to read the report again..."partial closure" |
Okay |
yanabasee:Well, your assertion is wrong. My cousin did the same thing; the two are Yorubas. |
lionshare:If I may, I don't know if I'm actually thinking of what you prolly know, but I believe it's going to create a much more bigger crisis than we have now if the government admits that such decision was made against a specific group. While walking down the street on Saturday, I heard people saying the same thing about a report that certain group of people had taken over the whole state, in very large numbers, through okada and maruwa - I had raised this issue with my manager long before this policy was made, of which he shared the same thought. These people pose a high security risk, according to this widespread report. Yes, this policy is not favouring the masses at the moment, and I believe better alternatives could have been provided before the decision was made. I however hope that at the end of the day, we get to see that the advantages outweigh the pains we currently pass through. |
And why do you have to post this picture here, Op? Like someone said on the first page of this post, if we continue this trend of posting highly graphic pictures like this online, time will come when people will be so used to seeing dead bodies that they wouldn't mind eating the flesh. Y'all should give some respect to the dead! Not everyone here is old enough to see something as terrifying as this. |
I think this isn't about discriminating against Nigeria. They gave reasons why they added Nigeria to the list, the question is, are the reasons valid? We shouldn't all react with emotions. When you applied for a visa and tell the authorities you're going to spend 2 weeks, but end up spending forever, how do you want such country to react? |
SweetBuns:Haha.....you saw that guy's line too. When I did, I was like who in hell would think of this in the first place?! Most Nigerians always use every opportunity to ridicule their country. Banana Island of all places. My first visit to that Island made me accept that truly all fingers are not equal. |
obedience4:You are wrong on this. Planes have been using transponders long before that. The difference between that incident and this one is that the Iranian plane was flying over the Strait of Hormuz while the USS Vincennes was operating there during the Iran-Iraq war. Strait of Hormuz is like Iranian border, but yet Iran's territory. Read an excerpt from document detailing the incident. According to the United States government, the crew of USS Vincennes had incorrectly identified the Airbus as an attacking F-14 Tomcat, a U.S.-made jet fighter that had been part of the Iranian Air Force inventory since the 1970s. While the F-14s had been supplied to Iran in an air-to-air configuration,[4][5] the crew of the guided missile cruiser had been briefed that the Iranian F-14s were equipped with air-to-ground ordnance.[6] Vincennes had made ten attempts to contact the aircraft on both military and civilian radio frequencies, but had received no response.[7] According to the Iranian government, the cruiser negligently shot down the aircraft, which was transmitting IFF squawks in Mode III, a signal that identified it as a civilian aircraft, and not Mode II as used by Iranian military aircraft.[8][9] The event generated a great deal of criticism of the United States. Some analysts blamed the captain of Vincennes, William C. Rogers III, for overly aggressive behavior in a tense and dangerous environment.[7][10] In the days immediately following the incident, US President Ronald Reagan issued a written diplomatic note to the Iranian government, expressing deep regret.[11] |
OneKinGuy:SAM does not shoot automatically. That system is always manned. Before missiles are launched, the system is loaded, activated, target verified, target locked and then the system takes it from there. My assertion above is in line with Iran's latest report which claimed it was human error. This means someone jittery locked on that plane without verifying. To avoid this sort of incidence, military and civilian aircrafts have different transponder frequencies so that military and civilian radars can detect which is which. All in all, may the soul of the departed rest in peace. |
