PoliticsArms Scandal: How Jonathan Ordered Dasuki To Give Anenih N250m Refund- PUNCH by ope2711(op): 7:39am On Jan 17, 2016
Former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Tony Anenih, has claimed that ex-President Goodluck Jonathan ordered a former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), to give him the sum of N260m.
The revelation is contained in a letter the former BOT chairman wrote to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission recently.
An aide to the PDP leader, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, confirmed toSUNDAY PUNCHon Saturday that Anenih made the disclosure.
The aide said, “The former BoT Chair explained to the EFCC that he gave his account details to the ex-President on request, when he requested for a refund of expenses incurred while (he was) carrying out Jonathan’s instructions. Jonathan passed it (account details) to Sambo and Anenih was paid the sum of N260m.
“The former PDP BoT chairman also explained to the anti-graft agency that apart from the N265m he gave to Chief Olu Falae, Senator Rasheed Ladoja and Alhaji Tanko Yakassai, he also gave N25m to a former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, and another N35m to a delegation of leaders from Katsina State.”
Anenih reportedly wrote in the letter that he also incurred additional costs when he led other members of the PDP BoT on a nationwide tour to reconcile aggrieved and feuding members, following instructions given to him by the former president.
He noted that the money he spent on hiring private jets and other logistics was yet to be refunded to him.
The aide added, “Although most of the expenditure was incurred on the instructions of the former president for special political assignments, only N260m was refunded to Anenih by the former president.
“Whereas the refund of N260m was made through the office of the National Security Adviser, Anenih explained in his letter to the EFCC that he only provided his account details to the former president on request for a refund of the money spent.
“He also said in the letter that he was not in a position to ask the former president how he was going to source the fund or through which office the refund was going to be made.”
The aide said Anenih had yet to be refunded over N180m out of the N440m he spent. The PDP chieftain also reportedly argued in the letter that he was not a direct beneficiary of the sum of N260m that was a part refund of the money he spent on the president’s instructions.
The former PDP BoT chairman had earlier stated that he gave N100m each to the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Chief Olu Falae, and the leader of Accord Party, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, for mobilisation purposes.
He had also said N63m was disbursed to a northern group led by Yakassai for “mobilisation and post-election peace advocacy in that part of the country.”
Yakassai, Falae and Ladoja have all confirmed that they received the stated amounts from Anenih.
The total of these three disbursements is already N3m more that the N260 million which Anenih said was refunded to him through Dasuki.

Politics$2.1bn Arms Scandal: Olu Falae, Ladoja, Yakassai Got N100m Each From Anenih by ope2711(op): 7:28am On Jan 09, 2016
Accord Party (AP) admitted yesterday that its chieftain and former Governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Rashidi Ladoja, got N100million from the former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tony Anenih, ahead of last year’s general election.
The confession came on the heels of those of Afenifere frontliner, Chief Olu Falae, and Second Republic Presidential Adviser, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, who also said that they received N100million and N53million respectively from Chief Anenih, in connection with the elections.
Accord Party, in a one-page letter by its National Secretary, Hon. Nureni Adisa, to the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, said the N100m was to assist the party prepare for the election.
In the letter entitled: “Release of N100million by Chief Tony Anenih” and dated 8th January, 2016, Adisa said: “Our attention has been drawn to a newspaper report that the sum of N100million was released to the Accord leader, Senator Rashidi Ladoja by Chief Tony Anenih, the (former) Chairman BoT of the PDP.
“We confirm that the sum of N100million was given to the party through our leader after series of meetings between the leadership of Accord and Chief Tony Anenih in preparation for the 2015 general elections.
“The following issues were discussed at the meetings:
*.The need to support the Presidential candidate of the PDP since Accord had no Presidential candidate.
*.The need to ensure that peace was maintained to enhance peaceful movement during periods of campaign, elections and after the elections.
*.The need for the PDP to support Accord campaign effort.
“Accordingly, the PDP (former) BoT Chairman, Chief Tony Anenih released the sum of N100million for these purposes through our leader, Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.
“The money released was accordingly used for the purposes as stated above.”
Chief Falae, Secretary to the Government of the Federation in the Babangida Administration, had earlier admitted that the Social Democratic Party (SDP) of which is National Chairman also got N100m from Chief Anenih for the purpose of campaigning for ex-President Goodluck Jonathan in the build-up to the election.

His words: “In the build up to the presidential election, the PDP approached the SDP which I chaired. The then ruling party solicited for our support in order for President Goodluck Jonathan to win the March 28 presidential election.
“Anenih related with me as the chairman of the PDP BoT and I did same as the SDP National Chairman. He wrote to me as PDP BoT chairman and I wrote back as SDP National Chairman stating conditions/terms for the alliance. I have the records.
It is true that N100million was given to my party to endorse and work for the Jonathan’s candidature in the 2015 election. We used the money for that purpose and we effectively campaigned for the PDP since we did not have presidential candidate in the election. The money was not for me.”
Falae claimed he had no reason to suspect that they money was from the arms deal.
“No reference was made to the arms deal. So they should not bring me into the arms issue. The relationship was purely interparty affairs,” Falae said.
For his part, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai said that the N53million he collected from Anenih was shared by him and seven other prominent northerners for advocacy visit to northern traditional rulers to mobilise their subjects for last election.
He named the other beneficiaries as one-time Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Alhaji Mamman Anka, Barrister Bitrus Gwada, Alhaji Suleiman Lawal, Dr Bahago, Chief John Macklink from Plateau and Senator Sodangi.
Yakassai said Anenih had requested him to name nine “apolitical but respected individuals from the north” who could help in mobilising the electorate for the election.
He said the money covered the allowances, transportation and hotel accommodation for the nine during the tour which he claimed took them to 18 states in the north.
The EFCC had traced about N260 million from the Office of National Security Adviser(ONSA) to the account of Anenih who explained in a letter to the anti graft agency that the money was a part refund of the money which former President Goodluck Jonathan instructed him to release to some political groups for mobilisation and post-election peace advocacy.

Both Yakassai and Falae had already confirmed that they received N63 million and N100 million respectively from Anenih for the purposes specified.

Health250 Substances In Cigarette Harmful To Your Lungs by ope2711(op): 5:30am On Dec 11, 2015
Tobacco smoke contains about 7,000 chemicals and 250 of such substances are known to be harmful to both smokers and nonsmokers. The chemicals are hydrogen cyanide, carbon monoxide, and ammonia.
According to the International Cancer Research Agency, among the 250 known harmful chemicals in tobacco smoke, at least 69 can cause cancer. These cancer-causing chemicals include acetaldehyde, aromatic amines, arsenic benzene and butadiene, to mention just a few.
If you are looking for the ingredients on the labelling, you may not find them there. While experts insist that there is no incentive for smoking, they advise smokers to save their lungs by quitting the deadly habit.
Smoking, according to the public health physician, Dr. James Ayorinde, is the leading cause of cancer of the lung, esophagus, larynx, mouth and liver.
Ayorinde states that the harmful chemicals in cigarette smoke have been known to double smokers’ risk of developing pneumonia, tuberculosis, and other infections that affect the airways.
He says, “In addition, smoking causes inflammation and impairs immune function of the pancreas, stomach, cervix, colon, and rectum, as well as acute myeloid leukemia. It practically harms every organ of the body.”
Experts on betobaccofree.com warn that each time cigarette smoke is inhaled it affects breathing and scars the lungs.
Another condition, they say, that results from smoking is Emphysema, a condition in which the walls between the air sacs in the lungs lose their ability to stretch and shrink back.
However, doctors say the real danger in smoking is its harmful effect on the health of non smokers. According to them, non smokers who live with smokers have an increased risk of developing a range of tobacco-related diseases, including asthma, respiratory illnesses, lung cancer and coronary heart disease.
Also, the World Health Organisation describes second-hand smoking as the highest cause of sudden death in infants whose parents smoke, while pregnant women, who inhale smoke exhaled by their spouses, will experience frequent miscarriages.
The global body states, “Passive smoking is a cause of sudden deaths. A child who lives in a household where there is a smoker has an increased risk of developing a range of respiratory illnesses and pneumonia.
“Smokers’ neighbours will be prone to getting cold, cough and their lungs will have a reduced ability to function and grow because they are busy trying to process the smoke they inhale from the environment. A child that is exposed to second-hand smoke in the home is more likely to develop asthma,”
WHO adds that direct smoking and second-hand smoking has increased the population of people living with heart diseases and warns that people must protect themselves against tobacco smoke inhalation at all costs.
The body says there is evidence that passive smoking makes the blood clot and causes a reduction of antioxidant vitamins in the blood – conditions that affect the blood vessels of the heart.
Ayorinde adds, “You will notice that any time you inhale smoke, you become breathless, uncomfortable and feel like you want to choke. You experience all that reaction because the blood is not getting the oxygen that it should. This affects the blood circulation. Just 30 minutes of exposure to second-hand smoke can affect how your blood vessels regulate blood flow to a degree similar to that which is seen in people who smoke.”
The physician says studies show that passive smokers have a 20 to 30 per cent higher chance of developing lung cancer, compared to those who do not inhale tobacco smoke.
There is nothing to gain and so much to lose by keeping such a dreadful habit. But you can quit, if you really set your mind to it.

PoliticsINEC Declares Bayelsa Election Inconclusive, Cancels Southern Ijaw Po by ope2711(op): 6:03pm On Dec 07, 2015
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared the Bayelsa State governorship election as inconclusive.
The electoral body also cancelled the election held in Southern Ijaw local government area on Sunday, December 6.
INEC officials led by the REC, Prof Zana, had earlier announced results from seven of the eight local government area in the state with Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate and incumbent, Seriake Dickson in the lead.
Dickson claimed victory in six of the LGAs while his main challenger, Timipre Sylva managed to win one LGA.
It would be recalled that earlier today, PDP supporters besieged INEC office protesting the heavy presence of security operatives as well as delay in announcement of results from Southern Ijaw.

KOGI GUBER: APC NWC DEADLOCKED

*.Fails to agree on Audu’s replacement
*.PDP to INEC: Declare Wada winner
*.Adegboruwa in court, seeks fresh election
Efforts by members of the National Working Committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC to arrive at modalities to conduct the fresh primaries to replace or substitute late Prince Abubakar Audu in the ongoing Kogi governorship election ended in deadlock in Abuja yesterday.
The development came just as Governor Idris Wada approached a Lokoja high court to declare him the winner of the poll. But in Lagos, human rights crusader, Olu Adegboruwa is in court seeking an order to compel Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to conduct fresh governorship election in the state.
Soon after the death of Prince Audu, who was coasting home to victory in last Saturday’s election was made public, the NWC of APC led by it national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun met and decided to conduct fresh primaries to elect Audu’s replacement.
This position apparently did not go down well with some members of the NWC who are rooting for Audu’s running mate, Hon James Faleke to take over the ticket.
There are also those who are clamouring for the runner up, Yahaya Bello, in the APC primary that Audu won to take over the ticket.
Yesterday’s NWC meeting was brief and ended abruptly without any official statement from the party as to how and when the proposed new primary would take place.
Rather the party’s national chairman said it was too early to comment on the process. However, inside sources said the meeting was deadlocked because of diverse and vested interests that clashed. When it was obvious that tempers would flare and tensions would rise, the national chairman who presided over the meeting brought it to an abrupt end.
Though Nigerian Pilot learnt that there was enormous pressure mounted from within and outside the NWC for Faleke to inherit the ticket, the party hierarchy however, was said to be very wary of the possible backlash from a section of the state, especially the Igala people who are not willing for power to shift, at least for now.
The development apparently made the Faleke option unattractive to the party, and living the party in a greater dilemma. Besides, the Faleke group insisted at the meeting that there was no need for fresh primaries to pick another flagbearer since Faleke was late Audu’s running mate and should naturally step into his shoes.
Also, some prominent members of the party from Kogi East clamoured for Mohammed Audu, the son of the late Abubakar Audu to inherit the father’s ticket. Though the party is believed to be looking at this option seriously, but there are those who strongly believe that it is going to polarise the party more and mar its bright chances.
Wada goes to court
Meanwhile, Governor Idris Wada, who scored the second highest votes in the inconclusive election, has approached a federal high court in Lokoja asking to be declared winner.
Also the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has concluded plans to go to court to ask it to declare its candidate winner as according to the party, APC no longer has a valid candiate and cannot in the eyes of law substitute a candidate outside the legally given time for such activity.
The Kogi scenerio has left APC in a great dilemma it never envisaged and depending on how it handles it, the party may end up snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
Declare Wada winner – PDP
The last is yet to be heard on the crisis left behind by Prince Abubakar Audu as the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday said the All Progressives Congress, APC, has crashed out of the Kogi state governorship election, following Audu’s sudden demise. The APC candidate died before the announcement by Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, of the inconclusive governorship election held on November 21.
This is coming as the PDP gave indication that it will be heading to the court to challenge INEC’s decision to allow APC present a new candidate who will inherit to votes cast in favour of late Audu.
The PDP caucus raised an alarm that:
“The AGF, INEC and APC are creating a scenario where a loser in a primary will patiently wait for the winning candidate to finish election and then have him either poisoned or assassinated before the final collation of results.”
