The socio-cultural value system of the yoruba society is a very amorous and filthy one, I don't blame the Akwa Ibom family for been wary... it's not uncommon for yoruba women to sleep around and be passed around like used commodity even while married, and for their men the less said the better... e get why bastard kids proliferate Yorubaland, the worse part of it all is that they don't even know how to wash their dirty linens outside. That's why no sane Igbo girl born and raised in the East with their cultural values intact should associate with them, it's only the born-throway Lagos born and bred Igbos who don't even know the name of their hometown much less speak the Igbo language that typically have their orientations and morals messed up.

Because he has probably been keeping in touch with his wife and kids (phone + video calls, texts), but not so much with his mother. I reckon he would be more elated to see his mother alive and well after all those years.
